Big crowds, traffic alert for Hill Cumorah Pageant

A summertime tradition, the Hill Cumorah Pageant, will end next year.

This year, Pageant organizers saw huge crowds the first week of the nightly show, and are now warning people to leave extra time to get to the Palmyra site in order to make the 9:15 pm shows, which run tonight (Tuesday) through Saturday.

The sound and light spectacular, put on by the Church of Latter Day Saints, is at the church's visitors' center.

''It's on a hill, a glacial drumlin, where church founder Joseph Smith claims to have found the golden tablets that became the Book of Mormon. Bible stories, and the Mormon story are re-enacted by volunteers. ''

This is the 82nd year for the pageant, which the church says will end next year–part of the reason for the bigger crowds.
