What the heck is going on off the Carolina coast?
We've got JSTARS, AWACS, P8s, multiple refuelers, and brass birds making fly bys.
Who knows. Some out of place assets got me interested. These guys have usual and unusual patterns. This struck me as unusual and for a few different birds. Could be an exercise and they've got a bead on something. Brass in the area this soon makes me think exercise…or something very extraordinary.
Any major east coast port would be a catastrophy. The west coast is even scarier due to a lack of redundancy.
Looking more like an exercise as we get more tracks. Plotting over IFR high, and VFR sectional charts, tracks appear mostly confined to defined Warning Areas or military training areas. Thinking operations would not care about W area boundaries.
Gotcha. Felt like there were too many stars in the air too soon for actual ops, figured it was generals and admirals looking generally and admirally.

You can bet their dispatchers have calculated the cost of a horn run vs waiting down to the penny and it's cheaper to move out and burn the bunker-c than wait…esp if it seems to be intentionally drug out.
A thought just occurred to me. There was a Russian officer that said during the Cuban Missile Crisis that the Russians had in the holds of ships delivering missiles, also delivered thousands of troops and weapons, completely unbeknownst to the Americans.
I don't think white hats would starve out innocent human trafficking victims just to expose the rat lines, but what if:
The ships were using converted containers to smuggle soldiers/spies?
That would explain the lengthy stalling outside Long Beach and now this.
