EGYPT—When massive shipping container vessel the Ever Given got stuck, authorities had no idea how they were going to free it and get traffic moving through the Suez Canal again. Americans Needed Durham Report Last Year, Not Now

Former President Donald Trump Friday night issued a statement asking if special counsel John Durham is still alive, as his probe into the origins of the Russia collusion investigation still has yet to be released, and former National Security Council Chief of Staff Fred Fleitz agreed Saturday on Newsmax TV that is a "good question."

However, Fleitz, now the president and CEO for the Center for Security Policy, a Washington, D.C., think tank, told "The Count" that now that the November election is over and President Joe Biden is in office, the report will not matter anyway.

"In my view, who cares?" Fleitz said. "It's over now. It's not going to have any effect because the election is over. The American people needed this information last November."

Durham, along with other U.S. attorneys who served under Trump was asked to resign by Biden, as is typical when a new president from an opposing party takes office. Durham has resigned as U.S. attorney for Connecticut but stayed on as special counsel on the Russia inquiry.

He has been examining the FBI's Crossfire Hurricane operation, which had investigated the Trump 2016 presidential campaign and allegations of links with Russia for about 2 years. Trump's Attorney General Bill Barr designated Durham as the special counsel in the case last October.

"John Durham had a responsibility to finish his investigation before the 2020 election," Fleitz told Newsmax TV. "This Russia collusion narrative, the weaponization of intelligence against the Trump 2016 campaign, spying on his campaign, this smeared Donald Trump's good name and deserved an answer to what happened. The American people deserved to know."

Durham, however, did not want to issue a report before the election because he did not want it to influence the outcome, Fleitz said, adding "that's unacceptable."

"The American people needed this information, but now we're almost in April 2021 and he still hasn't issued a report," Fleitz said.

And even at this point, if Durham issues a report, nothing will happen, Fleitz added.

"There may be some minor officials who Durham may name guilty of some type of wrongdoing, but the Biden administration is not going to prosecute them," Fleitz said. "They succeeded in what they wanted to do: They damaged Trump's good name, and this had probably had an effect in the 2020 elections – a very close election – and the American people needed to hear from Durham that none of this was true.

"And Durham didn't give them that information."

Meanwhile, the Justice Department and the national security community knew it was in the clear once Biden was inaugurated, Fleitz said.

"The Justice Department is not going to prosecute anyone for misusing our intelligence community against Donald Trump," Fleitz said. "They know they're in the clear. But what worries me is that this is going to him embolden careerists to spy on Republicans again, in the 2022 midterm elections and the 2024 election. I think they'll be able to do it, and they'll be able to do it, knowing that the Justice Department will let them get away with it."

NY Dem Rep: Firing WH Staff for Prior Pot Use Hypocritical as they crushed out a spliff

The firings of several White House staffers who admitted to smoking marijuana in the past is hypocritical, considering 2 past presidents and the current vice president have also acknowledged prior use, according to Rep. Mondaire Jones, D-N.Y., who says he is also a former user, says.

"I have in the past smoked marijuana," Jones told the New York Daily News after he and 29 other House Democrats sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking the staffers get their jobs back. "I do not currently smoke marijuana, but if I did it wouldn't be a problem."

Last week, White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed five staff members were fired after admitting to using marijuana in the past. She commented on Twitter the White House had worked with the security service to update the policies to ensure past marijuana use would not automatically disqualify staff from serving in the White House, but still, "out of the hundreds of people hired, only five people who had started working at the White House are no longer employed as a result of this policy."

However, sources said dozens of more employees were either suspended or put in a remote work program.

"Prior presidents of the United States and the current vice president have admitted to prior marijuana use," Jones said, referring to former President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Marijuana is legal in 36 states for either medical or recreational use, or both, and others are about to join them, including New York, and Jones said its use does not impair the "ability to perform a job or [their] trustworthiness."

He also commented the firings do not match up with the president's promises for social justice, and said there is also a historical context of Black and Hispanic Americans facing more harsh consequences for marijuana use than white people do.

"This is simply an old school retrograde policy that flies in the face of the president's commitments," said Jones, adding he and other House Democrats have not heard back from the White House about the letter.

"A cannabis conviction or even the stigma of cannabis use can ruin lives and prevent people from voting, gaining employment, and contributing to society," the letter said. "You can meet this moment and help end our failed punitive policy of cannabis prohibition."

The White House did not respond with a comment about Jones' statements, but when talking about the staffing procedures said in a statement last week the Biden administration's position on marijuana use is far more accepting position on marijuana use than other administrations had in the past.

"The White House's policy will maintain the absolute highest standards for service in government that the president expects from his administration while acknowledging the reality that state and local marijuana laws have changed significantly across the country in recent years," the statement said. "This decision was made following intensive consultation with career security officials and will effectively protect our national security while modernizing policies to ensure that talented and otherwise well-qualified applicants with limited marijuana use will not be barred from serving the American people."

Florida Gov. DeSantis Hires Top GOP Operative to Run Campaign

Becoming the talk of the Republican Party, if not the nation, Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis is gearing up for a battle for reelection in 2022, hiring a top operative to run his campaign.

Phil Cox will lead the way for DeSantis as a senior adviser, according to Politico.

Cox is a veteran national Republican strategist and the former executive director of the Republican Governors Association. He holds close relationships with the top GOP governors in the U.S.

"Phil is an incredibly talented and trusted operative who has played a key role in dozens of successful gubernatorial campaigns over the last decade," current RGA Executive Director Dave Rexrode wrote in a statement, Politico reported.

"Gov. DeSantis is well positioned heading into his reelection campaign, and Phil is an excellent addition to his operation."

DeSantis has reportedly kept his inner circle small until now, but becoming a leading name in the Republican Party puts a target on him for reelection, according to Politico.

Florida state agriculture commissioner Nikki Fried is the leading Democrat opposition for his reelection and might be expected to get strong support in one of the nation's biggest battleground states.

DeSantis' 2018 victory was by less than a half of a percentage point.

He has since risen in prominence amid Florida's COVID-19 pandemic response mitigating health and economic struggles unlike most large states that are popular among Democrat voters.

Among a straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference this winter, DeSantis was the leading name to run for president in 2024. DeSantis has yet to make a presidential run a goal, instead focusing on the 2022 gubernatorial reelection.

Rising Violence In Philadelphia Leads To Calls For DA Krasner’s Ousting

Authorities have taken one person into custody, but have not released any new information regarding the case. They said the area is not one they usually see this kind of violence in, but pointed to the city’s leadership as the root of the problem.

“This area is not on our radar, we haven’t had issues in this area at this point. But I will say, that social club is problematic,” Deputy Commissioner Joel Dales of the Philadelphia Police Department said. “It was shut down at least three times in the past. I know for a fact last year it was shut down.”

Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police president John McNesby also blasted Krasner’s handling of the city’s violence, saying criminals have “no fear of repercussion” due to the district attorney’s policies.

Krasner was elected in 2017 with the help of PACs funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros, who put more than $1.4 million into the DA race.
