Melania Trump Rolls Out ‘Be Best’ Campaign to Help Children On Various Issues

First lady Melania Trump has officially rolled out her awareness campaign initiative “Be Best” in the White House Rose Garden on Monday with the aim of helping children face issues in their lives in a range of issues from online bullying to opioid abuse.

Melania also announced that the initiative will also focus on physical, social and emotional health.

The first lady said in her speech: “It concerns me that in today’s fast-paced and ever-connected world, children can be less prepared to express or manage their emotions and often times turns to forms of destructive or addictive behavior such as bullying, drug addiction, or even suicide. I feel strongly that as adults we can and should be best at educating our children about a healthy and balanced life.”

The First Family was in full force to support Melania in her “shining moment.” Present were President Trump; first daughter Ivanka Trump; Jared Kushner, her son-in-law and a senior adviser to the administration; Vice-President Mike Pence; and second lady Karen Pence.

Melania promised to draw attention to organizations, companies, and people who “are helping children overcome the many issues they face as they grow up.” The initiative will also include talks with social media sites as well as concerned people who are struggling with drug addiction.

Melania also upheld her promise in the statement released to the media prior to the launch that unlike past traditions where first ladies typically focus on one issue for their agenda, Melania will encompass a range of issues in her initiative.

The first lady has started attending meetings on opioid addiction, an epidemic that has affected more than 2 million people in the U.S. One of Melania’s meetings include the one with a clinic that helps babies suffering from withdrawal after being exposed to opioids in the womb, and other meetings also at the White House with nonprofit groups and medical facility staff that run treatment and prevention programs.

Melania again emphasized the opioid problem in her speech on Monday as she promised to raise awareness about programs with the objective of fighting the crisis that claims tens of thousands of lives, exceeding 42,000 opioid overdose deaths in 2016. Melania also stood by her husband late last year as he declared the opioid crisis as a public health emergency.

President Trump for his part signed a “Be Best” proclamation marking May 7 as “Be Best Day.” The President also lavished praises on his first lady saying that during Melania’s travels “Americans have been touched by her sincerity” and “lifted by her love.”

While critics and liberals were quick to put down Melania and her initiative, she was also showered with love online by supporters and believers.
