We are asking you to apply the same standard to this attempt to overturn an election that you applied to the Republicans who objected to certain states’ electoral votes, and publicly condemn the actions of the Democrats who are seeking to overturn the state-certified election of Representative Miller-Meeks. If you decide to not speak out about this brazen attempt to steal an election, some may question the sincerity of your earlier statements and draw the conclusion that your actions were partisan instead of principled.

Grassley, Johnson Seek Information About Feds' Involvement In Hunter Biden Firearm Incident

WASHINGTON – Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) are seeking information from federal law enforcement agencies regarding their reported role in an incident involving a firearm belonging to Hunter Biden long after Biden’s U.S. Secret Service protection had ended.

Biden’s gun was discarded in a trashcan behind a grocery store near a high school, POLITICO reports, and Secret Service agents approached the owner of the store where Hunter bought the gun and asked to take the paperwork involving the sale.

The senators are asking why the Secret Service became involved in the incident despite Biden’s elapsed status as a protectee, and seeking further information from both the FBI and ATF.

Full text of the senators’ letter to the Secret Service follows and can be found HERE.

VIA ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION

Mr. James. M. Murray

Director

U.S. Secret Service

Dear Director Murray:

A recent press report detailed an October 2018 incident where a firearm owned by Hunter Biden was discarded in a “trash can behind a grocery store” across from a high school.[1]

After the firearm was discarded, the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) allegedly became involved and sought paperwork from the Federal Firearm Licensee (FFL) connected to Hunter Biden’s purchase of the firearm.[2] The owner of the gun store reportedly “refused to supply the paperwork” to the USSS agents due to suspicion that “the Secret Service officers wanted to hide Hunter’s ownership of the missing gun in case it were to be involved in a crime.”[3] The gun store owner reportedly provided the paperwork to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.[4] Notably, neither Joe Biden nor Hunter Biden were a Secret Service protectee at that time.[5] However, according to this report, a “law enforcement official” claimed that Secret Service agents in Delaware “kept an informal hand in maintaining the former vice president’s security.”[6] If true, USSS must explain to Congress why such informal actions were taken and whether they were necessary in light of the circumstances.

In addition, at the time of the October 2018 incident, the FBI reportedly “responded to the scene”; however, it is unclear what actions, if any, the FBI took.[7]

In light of the recent press report, please provide all records relating to your agency’s involvement in the alleged October 2018 incident with respect to Hunter Biden’s firearm no later than April 8, 2021. Further, USSS failed to fully respond to our October 20, 2020, letter relating to emails that reference travel plans for Hunter Biden involving USSS agents one year after Hunter Biden’s protection ended. We continue to expect a complete response to that letter and ask that you produce all requested records no later than April x, 2021. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Should you have questions, please contact Joshua Flynn-Brown of Senator Grassley’s Committee staff at 202-224-5225 and Brian Downey and Scott Wittmann of Senator Johnson’s Subcommittee staff at 202-224-3721.

Sincerely,

Wyden, Merkley, Colleagues Reintroduce Bill to Guarantee Abortion Coverage Regardless of a Patient’s Insurance

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley said today they have reintroduced a bill to guarantee abortion coverage—regardless of how a patient gets their health insurance.

“The government should not have control of women’s bodies,” Wyden said. “Ending the unconscionable Hyde Amendment is a key to protecting a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion, and essential to ensuring access to abortions for all women no matter their income or zip code. Abortion and other reproductive decisions are health care, and health care choices ought to be made by women with the help of the doctors they trust. End of story.”

"I believe in a society where everyone—regardless of the color of their skin, zip code, or income—has the same right to high-quality health care," said Merkley. "That basic human right shouldn't depend on whether or how you get your health insurance. I oppose rationing health care, including reproductive health, which is why I support this legislation."

Today, abortion coverage restrictions like the Hyde Amendment hurts more than 13 million women—primarily people struggling to make ends meet, women of color, young people, and immigrants. These harmful policies make it harder, if not impossible, for patients to afford an abortion or find a local provider. Abortion coverage restrictions also compound the harms from systemic racism, economic insecurity, and immigration status—ultimately denying millions of patients their constitutional right to an abortion.

The Equal Access to Abortion Coverage in Health Care (EACH) Act would end this injustice and help ensure women don’t just have the right to abortion on paper, but also in practice. This bold legislation finally ends the decades-long restriction on abortion for patients on government sponsored health care plans and helps ensure every woman can get the reproductive health care they need—no matter their income, race, zip-code, or how they get health care.

Recent polling data also show that 62 percent of voters support lifting federal abortion coverage restrictions and believe Medicaid should cover abortion.

The EACH Act was introduced by Senators Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., Patty Murray, D-Wash., and Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii. Along with Wyden and Merkley, the Senate bill was co-sponsored by Senators Cortez Masto, D-Nev., Shaheen, D-N.H., Klobuchar, D-Minn., Blumenthal, D-Conn., Brown, D-Ohio, Warren, D-Mass., Gillibrand, D-N.Y., Whitehouse, D-R.I., Rosen, D-Nev., Feinstein, D-Calif., Hassan, D-N.H., Bennet, D-Colo., Markey, D-Mass., Smith, D-Minn., Murphy, D-Conn., Booker, D-N.J., Van Hollen, D-Md., and Sanders, I-Vt.

CRAPO, RISCH, COLLEAGUES INTRODUCE RESOLUTION HIGHLIGHTING CRISIS AT SOUTHERN BORDER

Washington, D.C.–Citing the recent influx of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch (both R-Idaho) recently joined Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) and 19 additional co-sponsors in introducing a Senate Resolution expressing a sense of the Senate that the situation at the southern border constitutes a crisis.

“President Biden used his first day in office to terminate the national emergency on the border, undoing a number of efforts by the Trump Administration and Congress to help mitigate problems at the southern border,” Crapo and Risch said. “Less than two weeks later, on February 2, President Biden issued an executive order to cancel the ‘remain in Mexico’ program, which allowed the United States to return people applying for asylum at the southern border to Mexico while the legal system adjudicated their cases.”

“These policy actions have encouraged a surge of migrants seeking to enter the United States. Shelters are overflowing, and crossings are rising. February saw a 174 percent increase from the previous year in border encounters, and nearly 5,000 unaccompanied children remain in short-term holding facilities. This is a crisis. Prompt action must be taken to restore order at the southern border.”

Text of the resolution is below.

Expressing the sense of the Senate that the current influx of migrants is

causing a crisis at the Southern border.

Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that the current influx of

migrants at the Southern land border of the United States constitutes a crisis.

The Resolution failed when it came up for a vote.

On March 18, 2021, Crapo and Risch signed a letter to the Government Accountability Office highlighting the Administration’s lack of lawful justification to suspend border wall construction.
