More German Politicians Resign over Face Masks Bribery Scandal

Another German politician joined the list of suspects in a corruption scandal involving the procurement of COVID-19 face masks that has rocked the country’s conservatives and prompted the Bundestag to introduce a lobby register.

Niels Korte withdrew his candidacy for the Bundestag on Monday due to the media coverage of the mask affair which has implicated him in the bribery scheme. He denied the accusations, saying that they had “left him stunned.”

Korte is the latest member of the Christian Social Union party, CSU, who has stepped down from a post because of the scandal that erupted at the end of February.

Last week Bavarian authorities arrested a person suspected of having bribed CSU members, including lawmakers, to broker face mask procurement deals. The statement by the Prosecution Office did not reveal the suspect’s name, but German magazine Der Spiegel said the arrested person was Thomas Limberger, 53, an entrepreneur affiliated with the party.

Limberger reportedly used his companies to arrange the mask deals with the German government and pay commissions to the MPs who facilitated the contracts. The Sueddeutsche Zeitung cited reports claiming that between five and six million euros in commissions were supposed to be paid.

Among the suspects who have allegedly profited from the procurement deals are Georg Nüßlein, who resigned from his post at the CSU earlier this month but kept his seat in the Bundestag. He reportedly received a commission of 660,000 euros (US$800,000).

Another member of the CSU, Alfred Sauter, is believed to have received about 1.2 million euros ($1.4 million) in bribes. Both men have vehemently denied the allegations.

Additionally, the company of former lawmaker Nikolas Löbel also allegedly pocketed 250,000 euros ($295,000) in commissions as part of the mask affair. Löbel left the party and the Bundestag.

The German press has reported that the mask affair investigation originated from an alert from a bank in Liechtenstein, which found Limberger's transactions suspicious and blocked them.

In the light of the recent events, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister party CSU drafted a series of ethical rules that their members are obliged to follow, which states, among several guidelines, that politicians are prohibited from accepting financial contributions.

The Bundestag, meanwhile, approved the introduction of a transparency register that will require lawmakers to declare any interests they represent in a public directory. The MPs will also have to reveal details about their lobbying work.

“With the introduction of a lobby register, we are finally creating an effective instrument for more transparency in legislation,” said Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht from the Social Democratic Party, SPD.

Biden’s Woke SOCOM “Diversity and Inclusion Chief” Reassigned to New Duties Pending Investigation Into Anti-Trump Memes

United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) hired Richard Torres-Estrada, a woke, toxic leftist as its first “Diversity and Inclusion Chief” last week and he has already been reassigned to new duties pending an investigation into anti-Trump memes.

Just The News reported:

The U.S. Special Operations Command has reassigned its new diversity chief, Richard Torres-Estrada, to new duties while he is investigated for spreading anti-Donald Trump memes and comparing the former president to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, a spokesperson told Just the News.

“Mr. Torres-Estrada has been assigned to other duties pending the results of the investigation,” SOCOM spokesman Ken McGraw wrote in a Tuesday email.

Joe Biden and his handlers are trying to create an army of unhinged political-minded liberals.

This is another grotesque move by Democrats which is not best for the country or the military but suits their political objectives.

Mr. Torres-Estrada would never be hired if the goal was to improve the military and our future as a country.

The man is a bigot and far-left Never Trumper. His previous actions should have disqualified him.

Breitbart shared a few of his recent social media posts – this one says it all:

Police: ‘No Idea’ Why Man Shot 5 People Before Killing Self

BALTIMORE – A man accused of killing his parents also killed a man and woman who just so happened to stop by a convenience store on a Sunday morning, police say.

Police say 27-year-old Joshua Green shot three people at a Royal Farms convenience store along Middleborough Road in Essex just before 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Two victims were pronounced dead on the scene and one is recovering at a local hospital.

According to detectives, the suspect left the store and returned home where he set his apartment on fire. Police later found him outside his apartment complex dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives traveled to the home of the suspect’s parents where they discovered the two deceased; both individuals appeared to have been shot.

Detectives say all three incidents are connected and they are not searching for any additional suspects in connection to these three incidents.

“As to why this occurred, we have no idea yet,” Baltimore County Police Col. Andre Davis said at a press conference. “Our homicide detectives are tirelessly investigating a motive, but it appears that the shooter acted alone.”

Police Chief Melissa Hyatt told media members there are “more questions than answers” about the “horrific and sickening event which changed the lives of many people.”

“For now, we know that four innocent people lost their lives and one person sustained serious injuries,” said Hyatt.

PHOTOS: Biden Allows Reporters in Migrant Child Detention Site at 1700% Capacity

The Biden Administration finally allowed two journalists and a film crew to enter the Border Patrol migrant child detention center in Donna, Texas. The resulting photos and video show the conditions where more than 4,100 children are held in a facility with a capacity of 250 — 1,700 percent above capacity.

After leaked photos and videos of the overcrowded housing of unaccompanied migrant children in Border Patrol facilities along the Texas border, CBP officials allowed two Associated Press reporters and a CBS News camera crew to enter the Donna facility on March 30. Officials allowed the journalists to photograph and observe the processing of the children and the facilities where they were being held well beyond the 27-hour legal limit.

Honduran President’s Brother Sentenced to Life in Prison Over Massive Drug Trafficking Scheme

Tony Hernandez is a former member of the National Congress of Honduras, and also happens to be the brother of Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez. The former congressional lawmaker was arrested in 2018 and convicted in 2019 over conspiracy charges tied to drug smuggling and possession of machine guns.

A New York judge sentenced Hernandez to life in prison on Tuesday after he was found guilty of being involved in a massive international drug trafficking scheme that saw him traffic over 185,000 kilograms of cocaine.

Judge P. Kevin Castel, who serves the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, remarked in his sentencing that Hernandez’s life sentence was “richly deserved,” as the defendant was previously found guilty of having played a central role in the importation of illicit drugs.

Castel urged the former congressman to use his time in prison to reflect on his actions, adding that “perhaps you can do some good for your family and your country.”

In addition to the life sentence, Hernandez was ordered to forfeit $138.5 million for his hand in distributing 185 tons of cocaine. Officials estimated the figure was about the amount he had managed to earn through his drug trafficking activities.

— Inner City Press (@innercitypress) March 30, 2021

Although Hernandez has repeatedly denied he was involved in the trafficking initiative, he was convicted in October 2019 on four counts, which include conspiring to import cocaine into the United States, using and carrying machine guns, conspiring to use and carry machine guns, and making false statements to federal agents. The charges carried a minimum mandatory sentence of 40 years.

In a release issued by the US Department of Justice, the agency noted that Hernandez began his trafficking career around 2004 by providing “sensitive law enforcement and military information” to a pair of Honduran drug traffickers. By the time he was elected to serve in Honduras’ congressional body, Hernandez was pulling “large sums of drug proceeds for” political campaigns.

Hernandez is reported to have ties to other high profile drug traffickers, including Mexican kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, who is currently serving a life sentence in a maximum security federal prison for drug trafficking, money laundering and murder.

“Exploiting a high-ranking position in government to wield the power of the state to support drug trafficking is as nefarious as it comes,” Wendy Woolcook, a federal special agent involved in the case, noted in a statement accompanying the DoJ release.

“The conviction and sentencing of Tony Hernandez is a reminder there is no position powerful enough to shield you from facing justice when you violate US drug laws by sending tons of cocaine to our country.”

Sophia Bush Says Arkansas Law Banning Minors from Sex-Change Operations Is ‘Tantamount to Murder’

Sophia Bush Says Arkansas Law Banning Minors from Sex-Change Operations Is ‘Tantamount to Murder’

On Monday, Arkansas’ legislature passed a bill preventing minors from receiving sex change surgery, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and other medical procedures. Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) hasn’t indicated yet if he will sign the bill into law.

Arkansas is the first state to pass such legislation. At least 17 other states are reportedly considering similar laws.

While groups like the ACLU and the American Academy of Pediatrics have condemned the law, supporters say that minors shouldn’t be able to make life-altering and often irreversible changes to their bodies.

Last week, Gov. Hutchinson signed into a law a measure preventing transgender women and girls from competing against biological females in school sports.

“This law simply says that female athletes should not have to compete in a sport against a student of the male sex when the sport is designed for women’s competition,” Hutchinson said in a statement. “This will help promote and maintain fairness in women’s sporting events.”

Obama Official Defends Amazon Against Worker Mistreatment Allegations

Former Obama administration official Jay Carney, now Amazon’s vice president of global corporate affairs, is defending Amazon against allegations by its employees in Alabama who claim the multinational corporation’s workplace policies amount to abuse.

Last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) visited Amazon workers in Bessemer, Alabama, whose votes are currently being tallied to decide if they will be the first Amazon workers to unionize in the United States.

In interviews with Sanders, Amazon workers at the Bessemer Amazon warehouse accused the corporation of surveilling them on the job, implementing harsh packaging quotas, ignoring workplace injuries, and refusing to allow workers to use the warehouse’s elevators.

“These people in the name of convenience getting shit dropped at our door are being used and abused because it’s peak season,” rapper Killer Mike said at a rally.

One Amazon worker, 51-year-old Linda Burns, said Amazon is “treating us like robots rather than humans.” Burns said she has run out of paid sick leave despite having tendinitis.

In response, Carney — who started working in an executive role at Amazon soon after leaving the Obama administration in 2014 — defended Amazon’s workplace policies in a post online.

With all due respect, Senator [Bernie Sanders], you’re wrong on this,” Carney wrote. “We treat our employees with dignity and respect. We offer a $15 min wage, health care from day one, and a safe, inclusive workplace.”

Americans by a majority support Amazon workers unionizing. A February survey of nearly 1,200 likely U.S. voters found that 69 percent support Amazon workers unionizing — including 69 percent of swing voters, 55 percent of Republicans, and 81 percent of Democrats.

The clash between Carney and Sanders comes after Amazon spokespeople responded to statements made by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) where she noted the corporation’s use of tax loopholes “to pay close to nothing in taxes.”

In the midst of economic lockdowns that have crippled small and medium-sized businesses, Amazon has profited billions and made 2020 the corporation’s most profitable year. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, similarly, boosted his fortune by 60 percent since March 2020.

Despite Amazon’s broad corporate power in the market, the corporation has skated by for years without paying federal income taxes. In 2020, the corporation paid federal income taxes for the first time since 2016. The amount paid by Amazon was just $162 million last year, a fraction of its 2019 $13.9 billion pre-tax reported income. For context, Amazon paid in federal income taxes just 1.2% of its pre-tax reported income last year.

The Bessemer unionization vote is expected to conclude sometime in the coming week. Since the effort began, union representatives say there have been more than 1,000 Amazon workers who have inquired about unionizing.

US, 13 Nations Question the Integrity of WHO-China Study on CCP Virus Origin

The United States on Tuesday joined more than a dozen other nations to express shared concerns about a World Health Organization (WHO) study into the origins of the CCP virus, pointing to the report’s delay and lack of access to crucial data.

“Together, we support a transparent and independent analysis and evaluation, free from interference and undue influence, of the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads the statement signed by the governments of Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, South Korea, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

“In this regard, we join in expressing shared concerns regarding the recent WHO-convened study in China,” the statement continued, acknowledging the importance of the international mission into the Chinese megalopolis of Wuhan, where the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus first emerged, but also emphasizing that the study was “significantly delayed” and lacked access to “complete, original data and samples.”

The Chinese communist regime, although wasn’t directly mentioned in the joint statement, has been criticized for deliberately holding back the truth about the virus and allowing it to turn into a global crisis. Beijing for months rejected calls for an international probe and it wasn’t until this January that a WHO-led team of foreign experts was allowed to conduct a 2-week study in Wuhan and exchange information with their Chinese counterparts.

The 10-member team was met with obstructions after their arrival. Two members were denied entry into China due to visa issues, which Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying attributed to a “misunderstanding.” Another team member, Australian microbiologist Dominic Dwyer, revealed that they had requested raw patient data on 174 cases identified by the Chinese health authority in December 2019 around Wuhan’s wildlife market, as well as other potential earlier cases, but were only provided with a summary.

Meanwhile, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has agreed that the probe was “not extensive enough” and the experts had struggled to get their hands on key information during their stay in China.

The WHO report, while not making any firm conclusions, rated the theory that the CCP virus escaped from a lab as “extremely unlikely,” and the theory that the virus jumping from bats to humans via an intermediary animal as “most likely.”

“I welcome the recommendations for further research, including a full analysis of the trade in animals and products in markets across Wuhan, particularly those linked to early human cases,” Tedros said Tuesday.

“Although the team has concluded that a laboratory leak is the least likely hypothesis, this requires further investigation, potentially with additional missions involving specialist experts, which I am ready to deploy,” he added.

Putin Tells Merkel, Macron Russia Ready to Restore Interaction With EU, If Sees Interest

Russian President Vladimir Putin told German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron that Russia was ready to restore normal interaction with the EU, if there is an interest in this, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

"The state of affairs in relations between Russia and the European Union was discussed. The Russian side reiterated its readiness to restore normal depoliticized interaction with the EU, if there is a reciprocal interest in this," the statement says.

The leaders also noted the observance of the ceasefire in Libya, called the formation of a single transitional government there as an important step, the Kremlin said.

The parties also noted that the situation in Syria has continued to stabilise and that the issues of providing the Syrian people with humanitarian assistance were now very acute. Moscow has recently said that a lack of political will to settle the Syrian crisis head-on is hampering efforts to return Syrian refugees to their homes. The Russian military has also said that militants operating in Syria have been preventing civilians from leaving through humanitarian corridors, and humanitarian aid does not reach the people there.

According to the Kremlin, the leaders also spoke in favor of preserving and implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program.

The new US administration has vowed to revive the 2015 agreement but has failed to make the first conciliatory move. Iran has insisted that since Washington was one that abandoned the deal under the Trump administration in 2018, the US must first lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Tehran has also rejected any efforts to renegotiate the original agreement.

The talks were held in a businesslike and frank atmosphere, it was agreed to continue work on the entire current agenda, the Kremlin added.

The relations between Moscow and the EU have become strained after the latter had sanctioned Russia's Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, Investigative Committee chief Alexander Bastrykin, Federal Penitentiary Service head Alexander Kalashnikov and National Guard chief Viktor Zolotov over the situation with Russian vlogger e Alexey Navalny.

In a coordinated move hours later, the US imposed sanctions on seven senior Russian officials.

Navalny returned to Moscow from Germany in January after treatment for alleged poisoning and was arrested upon arrival at Sheremetyevo International Airport. Shortly after, a Moscow court rescinded Navalny's suspended sentence in the 2014 Yves Rocher fraud case over multiple probation breaches and replaced it with a 3.5-year prison term.

Even before the sanctions were officially unveiled, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the relations with the EU were at a low point. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, in turn, described the bilateral relationship as being at a "standstill" during his Moscow visit in early February.

South Dakota’s Governor Signs Executive Orders to Ensure Fairness in Girls’ Sports

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem signed two executive orders (pdf) (pdf) Monday evening to limit participants in female sports to biological females. This comes after the state legislature failed to make proposed revisions to the bill that would have stopped transgender females from competing in girls and women’s sports.

“Only girls should play girls’ sports. Given the legislature’s failure to accept my proposed revisions to HB 1217, I am immediately signing two executive orders to address this issue: one to protect fairness in K-12 athletics, and another to do so in college athletics,” wrote Noem on Monday.

When HB 1217 was returned to the legislature for revisions, The American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota criticized the state legislature’s efforts to ban transgender females from playing in women’s sports.

“House Bill 1217 has never been about leveling the playing field for student athletes,” said ACLU of South Dakota advocacy manager Jett Jonelis in a March 25 press statement. “It’s been obvious from the beginning that this discriminatory legislation is about creating a solution to problems that don’t exist and, in the process, harming some of the most vulnerable people in our state.”

The governor, who had previously signaled her support for HB 1217, declined to sign the measure unless lawmakers accepted changes that would exclude collegiate sports from the ban. Because the changes to HB 1217 were not made by the legislature, the bill was considered vetoed and Noem decided to use her executive authority and ensure fairness in women’s sports.

Noem said the bill, without the revisions, would be challenged by civil and private groups and the state would lose at the collegiate level. She argued the bill’s passage would have negative consequences for South Dakota if the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or other organizations opposed to the ban decided to take legal action.

During a press conference, Noem said she was trying to avoid getting into expensive legal challenges that South Dakota would eventually lose.

“Just know that we could face retaliation [from groups like the NCAA], it’s more than likely, and then at that point in time we would have to sue, which would be a cost to the taxpayers, which based on advice from legal scholars across the country and constitutional and conservative scholars, they believe that our chances of winning that type of litigation would be small.”

Additionally, Noem said she will work with lawmakers in her state to schedule a special legislative session in late May or early June, where she will ask members to revisit the women in sports bill, medicinal marijuana, and the federal spending package.

Hillary Clinton Declares ‘Shameless’ Republicans Are ‘Gun Worshipers’

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Republicans “gun worshipers,” who are “shameless” because of their “huge advantage” due to the filibuster.

“You know, democracy is the balancing of interests and rights, and unfortunately at this time, the gun worshipers have a huge advantage because of the filibuster and because of their shameless exploitation of people’s unwarranted fears,” Hillary Clinton said.

“The opportunists on the other side, like Cruz and his ilk,” she continued, “they know better and they are in the position of trying to keep people really riled up and scared that sensible gun legislation like we had in the ‘90s for 10 years will somehow undermine their rights.”

“Well, what about the rights of all the rest of us? The rights of us to go to work, go shopping, go on dates to the movie theater, go to school, for heaven’s sake — what about the rest of us?” she asked.

The House of Representatives has proposed legislation to impose background checks on all gun sales and transfers, but the initiative has not totally satisfied Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), who is an important vote in a Senate that is split 50/50 with 60 votes needed without the nullification of a filibuster or the tactic of reconciliation to circumvent the Senate Democrat’s vote shortfall.

“Background checks are important. I do believe that. But you can go too far on that ship pretty fast, too. I am for background checks. There is a caveat for handing down within the family and not requiring a background check,” Tester specified.

Even so, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Thursday he would bring up the legislation for a vote when the Senate returns April 12.

The full interview of Hillary Clinton will be released Thursday.

CBS Airs Puff Piece on Radical Left-Wing District Attorney of Crime-Ravaged San Francisco

Before his election in 2019, Chesa Boudinworked as a translator for communist dictator Hugo Chávez

CBS parent company Viacom's stock has plummeted more than 50 percent in the past week, perhaps due to the underwhelming quality of its journalism.

Earlier this week, the company's paid streaming service, Paramount+, aired a special 60 Minutes segment on Chesa Boudin, the radical left-wing district attorney of crime-ravaged San Francisco.

Wesley Lowery, the former Washington Post employee best known for spending several minutes in jail after getting arrested in a McDonald's, conducted the interviews for the piece. The controversial journalist was part of a team that won the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting in 2016. Since leaving the Post in 2020, Lowery has become a prominent critic of objectivity in journalism, as well as an author who specializes in writing in the first person.

Lowery introduces Boudin as being "among a wave of progressive prosecutors who have been elected across the nation who are trying to turn protest into policy" by cracking down on law enforcement. Unlike most district attorneys, Lowery notes, Boudin's own life has been "directly touched by incarceration."

That's because Boudin's parents were members of the militant left-wing Weather Underground—an "activist group," as Lowery describes it; a terrorist group, according to the FBI—and were sent to prison for taking part in a 1981 armed robbery that left two police officers and a security guard dead and several others severely wounded. For all intents and purposes, Boudin is presented as someone who is intimately familiar with the unfairness of the American justice system.

Boudin's mother, Kathy Boudin, was released on parole in 2003 and is the co-director of the Center for Justice at Columbia University. His father, David Gilbert, is still serving a 75-year minimum sentence at a maximum security prison in New York. After his parents were incarcerated, Boudin was raised by Bill Ayers, the Weather Underground leader best known for his association with former president Barack Obama.

Other aspects of Boudin's radical ideology are left unmentioned, such as his fondness for left-wing authoritarianism. He has worked as a translator for Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chávez, for example, and even praised the dictator's controversial campaign to abolish term limits. Boudin's grandfather worked as an attorney for Fidel Castro.

Since Boudin's election in 2019, Lowery reports, "crime remains a potent wedge issue" in San Francisco, mostly due to the fact that the city's crime problem is out of control. Walgreens has closed multiple stores in San Francisco due to rampant shoplifting. Boudin's efforts to decrease the prison population, whether by releasing inmates early or by showing leniency to repeat offenders, have been criticized by police officers and city residents alike.

Proud Boy charged in Capitol siege says he helped FBI for years, gave information on Antifa

An attorney for Proud Boys member Joseph Biggs, under court-ordered home detention Florida, made the claims Monday in a court filing.

A Proud Boys member who was charged in connection with the Jan. 6 breach on the U.S. Capitol said that he has worked for years with the FBI, meeting and speaking with agents to provide information on Antifa.

An attorney for Joseph Biggs, who has been under court-ordered home detention in north Florida in connection with the breach, made the claims Monday in a court filing.

Biggs began his informal FBI conversations years ago while planning anti-Antifa demonstrations in Portland, Oregon, attorney John Daniel Hull wrote in the filing.

"As part of the planning, Biggs would regularly speak by phone and in person to both local and federal law enforcement personnel stationed in Portland, including the FBI’s Portland Field Office," Hull wrote. "These talks were intended both to inform law enforcement about Proud Boy activities in Portland on a courtesy basis but also to ask for advice on planned marches or demonstrations, i.e., what march routes to take on Portland streets, where to go, where not to go."

Additionally, Biggs had similar conversations with FBI and police in other cities, wrote the lawyer, who noted various years for when the contacts took place.

"The FBI has no comment," spokesperson Carol Cratty said when contacted by Just the News.

Biggs was outspoken on social media and radio about his activities and beliefs, Hull also said.

"By late 2018, Biggs also started to get 'cautionary' phone calls from FBI agents located in (Florida's) Jacksonville and Daytona Beach inquiring about what Biggs meant by something politically or culturally provocative he had said on the air or on social media concerning a national issue, political parties, the Proud Boys, Antifa or other groups," the filing reads. "Biggs regularly satisfied FBI personnel with his answers."

The FBI directly sought information from Biggs, according to the attorney.

"In late July 2020, an FBI Special Agent out of the Daytona Beach area telephoned Biggs and asked Biggs to meet with him and another FBI agent at a local restaurant," the attorney wrote. "Biggs agreed. Biggs learned after he travelled to the restaurant that the purpose of the meeting was to determine if Biggs could share information about Antifa networks operating in Florida and elsewhere. They wanted to know what Biggs was 'seeing on the ground.' Biggs did have information about Antifa in Florida and Antifa networks in other parts of the United States. He agreed to share the information."

That meeting lasted for about three hours, after which Biggs and the original agent remained in touch, according to the lawyer. Over the ensuing few weeks, Biggs answered followup questions from the agents.

"They spoke often," Hull wrote.

Around Jan. 16, Biggs contacted the Daytona Beach agent to report that he was involved in the Jan. 6 breach. A few days later, that agent and another drove Biggs to Orlando to appear before a U.S. magistrate judge in connection with the charges against him. The Proud Boy member was released on home detention and with a number of restrictions.

The government subsequently moved to revoke the home detention. The claims in the March 29 court filing were part of an effort to oppose the government's motion to revoke Biggs' pretrial release.

Virgin Galactic unveils mirrored spaceship VSS Imagine that 'reflects the environment around it' as founder Richard Branson confirms he will fly to space this SUMMER ahead of tourist flights early next year

VSS Imagine is Virgin Galactic's first spaceplane in the Spaceship III class of vessels

The first round of testing will start this May with glide flights within Earth's atmosphere from New Mexico

The first astronaut flight to the edge of space with Sir Richard Branson on board will take place this summer Virgin Galactic has unveiled a new mirrored spaceship called VSS Imagine that is designed to 'reflect the environment around it' as it moves through clouds and out to space.

The new spaceplane is the third generation craft developed by the New Mexico-based Virgin Galactic and will be more modular, allowing for more rapid development as the number of flights ramp up from 2022.

Glide flights within Earth's atmosphere of VSS Imagine are due to begin this summer in the skies over New Mexico, followed by sub-orbital flights in the following years if the early tests are successful.

Founder Sir Richard Branson will fly to the edge of space by the end of the summer, the firm confirmed, flying in VSS Unity, the current second generation spaceplane and the craft that will operate commercially early in 2022.

Before Branson can earn his commercial astronaut wings in the summer, Virgin Galactic will operate two test flights starting from May, the first with just pilots, and the second carrying a full crew to the edge of space.

No details have been revealed about the cost of the new spaceplane, or the price of tickets, but it is rumoured SpaceShipTwo cost about $400 million (£290 million) to develop.

'It is mostly a manufacturing conversation. Unity was built in place, we stacked it up and put it all together, we had it sitting there and all things come together, which is helpful for a demonstrator, but not the fastest process,' Colgazier told MailOnline.

'Spaceship III class design has been created in parts, so we can create an assembly here and in parallel an assembly over there.

'Then assembled in a way that is more expedient, done in a way for flight cycle time.'

The longer-term goal is to have multiple spaceports around the world, each offering a different journey up into space and back down to Earth again, Colgazier explained.

Initially there will be a handful of flights leaving from and arriving into Spaceport America in New Mexico, the new base for Virgin Galactic.

'We are going to start at SpacePort America New Mexico, but I think the experience we created and what we can do around a spaceport is going to be compelling to other communities and other governments,' he told MailOnline.

'As we go to the next spaceport we will be able to ramp up much more quickly.

'The eventual number of spaceports we will see, but we are very bullish on our ability to go to other parts of the world and share this with other countries.

'I think the perspective down to the planet will be different and the experience around it will be different for each place we fly from.'

G. Gordon Liddy, unrepentant Watergate burglar who became talk show host, dies

G. Gordon Liddy, the tough-guy Watergate operative who went to prison rather than testify and later turned his Nixon-era infamy into a successful television and talk show career, has died at age 90.

Liddy died Tuesday at his daughter’s house in Virginia, his son Thomas P. Liddy told the Associated Press. He did not give a cause of death.

While others swept up in the Watergate scandal offered contrition or squirmed in the glare of televised congressional hearings, Liddy seemed to wear the crime like a badge of courage, saying he only regretted that the mission to break into the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters had been a failure.

He drove around Washington in a Volvo with license plates reading H2OGATE, openly discussed the botched burglary on talk radio and late-night TV, took villainous television roles that seemed to trade on his soiled reputation and mocked his fellow Watergate operatives as bumblers.

“I was serving the president of the United States and I would do a Watergate again — but with a much better crew,” he said.

Tight-lipped, Liddy refused to testify at either the Watergate hearings or at his own criminal trial, accepting his fate and a 20-year prison term. “My father didn’t raise a snitch or a rat,” he explained to the Los Angeles Times in 2001.

But when his sentence was commuted by President Carter and he was freed after 52 months in prison, Liddy couldn’t stop talking.

He became a sought-after public speaker, a far-right radio talk show host who called himself the “G Man” — “This is Radio Free D.C., and I’m G. Gordon Liddy” — and a prolific writer. He also fit comfortably into the skin of TV villains, playing a recurring bad guy role on “Miami Vice” and similar characters on “MacGyver” and “Airwolf.”

“I played only villains, and that way, as Mrs. Liddy says, I don’t have to act. I just go there and play myself,” he told Playboy magazine in a 1995 interview.
