Wisconsin Supreme Court Strikes Down Democrat Governor’s Mask Mandate

The conservative-leaning Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down Democrat Governor Tony Evers’ statewide mask mandate in a 4-3 ruling.

The state supreme court ruled that Evers violated the law by unilaterally issuing multiple emergency orders and circumventing the state legislature.

“The question in this case is not whether the governor acted wisely; it is whether he acted lawfully. We conclude he did not,” Justice Brian Hagedorn wrote for the majority.

Evers fought very hard to keep the mask mandate in place and ignored the will of the legislature, the body closest to the people that voted to repeal the mask mandate.

Governor Evers issued an emergency 60-day order in August of 2020 and continued to extend his unlawful mandates.

Last month Evers issued a new statewide mask mandate one hour after GOP state lawmakers voted to repeal the previous mask mandate.

The GOP-led Wisconsin senate last month voted 18-13 to repeal Evers’ statewide mask mandate.

The joint resolution to end Evers’ emergency order passed the Republican-controlled legislature in late February in a 52-42 vote.

Wednesday’s ruling was a huge victory for Wisconsin Republicans who spent months fighting Evers’ lockdowns and mask mandates.

“The governor’s repeated abuse of emergency powers and pervasive violation of state statute created a state of chaos and had to be stopped,” Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said.

Mask mandates in Dane and Milwaukee County remain in place.

Harmful content not ‘fault of faceless machines,’ Facebook VP Nick Clegg says while blaming users for ‘polarizing’ content

Facebook VP of global affairs Nick Clegg has blamed users for spreading “polarizing” content on the platform in a blog defending its algorithms, saying the spread of harmful posts is “not simply the fault of faceless machines.”

The former UK deputy prime minister was seemingly prompted by a recent article in the Atlantic that compared Facebook to “a device built with the sole purpose of destroying all human life,” to pen a lengthy defense of his employer via a Medium blog post.

Facebook has been repeatedly criticized for failing to tackle hateful, harmful and polarizing political content on its platform. Using the old saying, Clegg rebuffed detractors by beginning his piece arguing “it takes two to tango,” and later explaining that “your News Feed is shaped heavily by your choices and actions,” rather than just being created by algorithms.

We need to look at ourselves in the mirror, and not wrap ourselves in the false comfort that we have simply been manipulated by machines all along.

Clegg used the example of the spread of “bad and polarizing” content on other messaging services such as Telegram and Facebook’s WhatsApp, pointing out that those apps don’t use content or ranking algorithms to argue Facebook isn’t solely responsible for the phenomenon.

Accepting that part of the criticism directed at Facebook comes from the public’s limited understanding of the site’s secret algorithm, Clegg admitted the company must work to provide “a better understanding of the relationship between the user and the algorithm.”

However, he did not elaborate on what steps the company could take to achieve that.

White House Unveils Details Of Biden's $2.25 Trillion Infrastructure Plan, Massive Tax Hikes

After weeks of waiting with investors hanging on every new detail, President Joe Biden is expected to unveil the first part of his sweeping economic reform/redistribution plan on Wednesday afternoon.

As Biden's press secretary Jen Psaki revealed over the weekend that Biden and his team are planning to unveil his sprawling "Build Back Better" plan in two parts: The first part of the "Build Back Better" plan, which will be officially unveiled later today, is expected to focus on rebuilding "roads and railways" while the second part, which will be released "in just a couple of weeks", will focus on "social infrastructure" funding, including childcare and healthcare initiatives.

Details of the plan have been leaking out at a steady pace for weeks, although some of the details reported earlier have been changed. According to the leaked 25-page document obtained by the NYT, Biden's "American Jobs Plan" will "invest in America in a way we have not invested since we built the inter-state highways and won the Space Race." The plan, which will carry a $2.25 trillion price tag (that's more than 2/3rds of the $3 trillion marked for "BBB") per the Washington Post, will finance the rebuilding of 20K miles of road, repairs to the 10 most economically important bridges in the country, and the elimination of lead pipes and service lines from the country's water supplies. In total, the plan features $50 billion "in dedicated investments to improve infrastructure resilience".

The plan also includes a long list of other projects intended to create millions of jobs, with the goal of strengthening America's long-term competitiveness. The plan will also address Biden's climate change priorities, by hastening the shift to new, cleaner energy sources, and would help promote racial equity in the economy. The plan includes $16 billion to fund a program to retain fossil fuel workers to transition to new work (we imagine they'll take to learning to code like a fish to water).

Fortunately for Tesla, its shareholders and - most importantly - its CEO, Elon Musk, the plan proposes an additional $46 billion in federal procurement programs for government agencies to buy fleets of electric vehicles, and $35 billion in research and development programs for cutting-edge, new technologies. While more competitors are making their own EV vehicles, Tesla remains the market leader.

One of Biden’s dogs reportedly poops on White House floor

One of President Biden’s German shepherds treated the White House like an outhouse Wednesday, rudely answering nature’s call in a hallway, according to a pool reporter.

“As pool gathered to load in the vans on the South Lawn driveway, Champ and Major were spotted in the hallway outside the Palm Room doors in front of the Diplomatic Room,” noted the journalist in a 10:27 a.m. dispatch as she awaited the departure of First Lady Jill Biden. “There was dog poo on the floor. It’s unclear which dog was responsible for it.”

The crappy situation unfolded one day after it was reported that Major, the White House’s first rescue dog, was involved in a second biting incident this month.

Major reportedly nipped a National Park Service employee on the White House South Lawn Monday afternoon, with the worker heading to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

The bite came just a week after Major, 3, returned to the White House following a brief banishment for chomping down on a security guard.

A spokeswoman for Washington, DC’s Humane Rescue Alliance, which takes legally-required reports on dog-biting incidents from Beltway residents, told The Post that the White House is exempt from the requirement.

As with foreign embassies in our city, we have no jurisdiction over what happens at the White House or the surrounding grounds, which is secured federal property,” said Samantha Miller, when asked whether Major’s two bites had been reported to the organization.
