The US constitution and basis for our entire government relies on DC being a territory unto itself. By making it a state, they undermine the entire government.
Instead of removing the filibuster, this is their alternate plan to gain a permanent majority in the senate.

By making DC a state, they nullify the constitution by removing the only area in the country they (the government) is authorized to control all of the United States.
Also a bill cannot confer a statehood. It requires an Act, annexation, or treaty and that is just for a regular state.
We are talking about the seat of government that the US Constitution explicitly sets aside to be a neutral area for the seat of government to meet and make laws. By removing DCs territorial status, we lose the only “neutral” area available with the State of DC holding too much centralized power.
One state that has the seat of government and is only 100 miles square. Too much power in the hands of too few.
