He's said time and again that he suffers from PTSD. He can pick apart stories from wars really well. He's great at exposing the truth of military actions in the Middle East. He loses it every time he tries to bring his skill home. He can't calmly discuss American politics (except for Trump).
It's best to let him do what he's good at rather than try forcing him to deal with what he can't.
