U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon will step down as chief judge of the Southern District of New York and take senior status on April 10, the district executive’s office confirmed Thursday. She is set to be succeeded as chief judge by U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain.
McMahon, 69, sent her letter to the White House Wednesday, informing the Biden administration of her plans to go senior, a form of semiretirement that will create a new vacancy on the federal district court.
