Maybe the third is the pure intellect but if you have the oil (mind) and the wine (emotions) under control, you are mastering the red horse? And the goal is to avoid the personal ride on the pale horse (look outside right now and you will see some people with pale skin!)!

I think about the symbolic in the bible.
Horseman - you, the day you were born
Horseman - you, while learning about the world and controling your emotions (not letting your emotions drives you)
Horseman - the intellect combined with the free will to discover the pure spirit in you
Horseman - you, to satisfy only the worldly things as money, selfishness, greed, ignorance, etc.
Just thinking about it and I really try that on this example to control myself in various situations the live puts me in or I put myself in! And I have to say… It makes sense to me!
