Islamic State Mozambique Invasion Sent Thousands Fleeing Country
More than 50,000 people have been affected by recent Islamic terror attacks in northeastern Mozambique and need food assistance, the World Food Program (WFP) said Thursday.
Hundreds of terrorists believed to be linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked the Mozambican natural gas hub of Palma, located in Cabo Delgado province, on March 24. The jihadis laid siege to the city for several days and killed dozens of Palma residents, including foreigners contracted to work at a nearby liquefied gas plant. ISIS formally claimed responsibility for the attack on Palma on March 29 and remained in control of the resort town as of the same day according to Dyck Advisory Group, a South African private security firm hired by the Mozambican government to defend Palma.
The attack sparked a grand exodus from Palma to neighboring towns and provinces.
“Hundreds of people fled the fighting, running into forests, mangroves, or nearby villages,” the BBC reported March 28.
“It’s a real humanitarian catastrophe,” WFP Director for Southern Africa Lola Castro said in a press statement issued April 1. “People are heading all over the place — by boat, on foot, by road.”
The WFP is distributing emergency food packages to “support the people wherever they are,” and collaborating with U.N.I.C.E.F. to supply a “desperate population” with drinking water, Castro said.
U.N.I.C.E.F. stands for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. The WFP is the food-assistance branch of the U.N.
“The situation is very bad and it’s affecting Cabo Delgado’s neighboring provinces,” Castro said Thursday, adding, “We don’t have enough resources to support the scale-up that is needed.”
The March 24 attack on Palma “uprooted many who had been sheltering there after having fled conflict in other parts of Cabo Delgado,” according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (O.C.H.A.).
More than 9,100 people have arrived in the Cabo Delgado towns of Nangade, Mueda, and Montepuez since March 24 and some displaced persons have even been driven to the nearby Tanzanian island of Pemba, the O.C.H.A. said in a flash update April 2.
“Roughly two-thirds of people arriving in neighboring towns are staying with host families, “who have generously opened their homes to those fleeing the violence,” according to the update.
“Thousands more are reportedly on the move through the forest in search of safety and are expected to arrive at different locations in the days ahead,” the office added.

DeSantis Defiant in ’60 Minutes’ Hit — ‘It’s Wrong, It’s a Fake Narrative’
Sunday, CBS’s “60 Minutes” aired a report saying that weeks before Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced a partnership with Publix grocery stores to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine in its pharmacies, Publix donated $100,000 to his PAC.
CBS’s Sharyn Alfonsi asked DeSantis how that situation is “not pay to play,” especially considering the exclusivity of the deal and Belle Glade, FL, being around 30 miles away from the nearest Publix.
DeSantis shot down the notion of any wrongdoing, calling it a “fake narrative.”
“So, first of all, what you’re saying is wrong. That’s a fake narrative,” DeSantis outlined. “I met with the county mayor, I met with the administrator, I met with all the folks at Palm Beach County, and I said, ‘Here’s some of the options: we can do more drive-thru sites, we can give more to hospitals, we can do the Publix.’ And they said, ‘We think that would be the easiest thing for our residents.'”
“The criticism is that it’s pay to play, Governor,” Alfonsi stated.
“It’s wrong. It’s wrong. It’s a fake narrative,” DeSantis shot back. “I just disabused of the narrative, and you don’t care about the facts because, obviously, I laid it out for you in a way that is irrefutable, and so it’s clearly not.”
Alfonsi insisted, “Isn’t … the nearest Publix to the Glades 30 miles away?”
“No, no, no,” the governor stated. “You’re wrong.”

Highly contagious mutations grip Europe in ‘whole new pandemic’
Europe is struggling to battle highly infectious mutations of COVID-19 which are changing the game across the continent.
As Europe struggles in its battle with coronavirus, a host of highly contagious mutations of COVID-19 are acting like “a whole new pandemic” across the continent.
Up to 75 per cent of coronavirus cases in continental Europe are now, according to genomic analysts, the more contagious variant which originated in Kent, UK, The London Telegraphreported.
Around three per cent have been identified as the South African and Brazilian strains which scientists fear could be more resistant to coronavirus vaccines. The Brazilian strain is also thought to be causing more deaths among 18 to 45-year-olds, according to data coming out of the South American nation.
France entered its third national lockdown – for one month from March 31 – after a resurgence of infections which President Emmanuel Macron attributed to the spread of the UK strain.
Germany has seen an even higher surge in UK variant cases and more than half the cases in Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium in the first week of March 8 tested are the same strain.
UK virus variant now dominant strain across Europe
The CoVariants project, which compiles international open-access genomic analysis, says the UK variant has multiplied in the population from 14 per cent of cases at the end of last year.
In France, where the CoVariants data shows more than 60 per cent of infections in early March were the UK strain, daily cases rose last week by 15 per cent.

Beijing Accelerating Timeline for Possible Invasion of Taiwan, Expert Warns
TAIPEI, Taiwan—The Chinese communist regime is accelerating its plans to invade Taiwan, an expert warns, as Beijing ratchets up military maneuvers against the island.
Twenty Chinese military aircraft—including four nuclear-capable H-6K bombers, 10 J-16 fighter jets, two Y-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft, and a KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft—entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on March 26, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense. It was the largest incursion ever reported by the ministry.
Taiwan’s ADIZ, located adjacent to the island’s territorial airspace, is an area where incoming planes must identify themselves to the island’s air traffic controller.
The incursion caps off a significant increase in hostility by Beijing against Taiwan since 2020. Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen, re-elected last January, has taken a hard line against threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), while the island has deepened its cooperation with the United States—prompting the regime to escalate its warmongering towards the island.
The CCP sees Taiwan as a part of its territory and has threatened war to bring the island under its fold. The self-ruled island is in reality a de-facto independent country with its own democratically-elected government, military, constitution, and currency.
The Republic of China (ROC)—Taiwan’s official name—overthrew China’s Qing Dynasty emperor in 1911. After the ROC retreated to Taiwan upon being defeated by the CCP during the Chinese Civil War, the CCP established a communist state called the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, while Taiwan gradually transitioned to become a democracy. But to this day, the Chinese regime has refused to recognize Taiwan’s sovereignty.
Last year, the Chinese air force flew about 380 sorties into Taiwan’s ADIZ, the highest number in a given year since 1996. So far this year, the Chinese military has been sending aircraft into the ADIZ on a near-daily basis.
The island’s coast guard on April 1 announced that Beijing has been flying unmanned drones near Taiwan’s Dongsha Island, located in the northern part of the South China Sea. The authority said it could not rule out that Beijing was using the drones to carry out reconnaissance.
Alongside military actions, the regime has sharpened its rhetoric towards the island. Earlier this year, a Chinese defense spokesperson threatened war against Taiwan if it declared independence.
On March 31, Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of hawkish state-run media Global Times, wrote on his social media, that he would like to order able-bodied men to go blow up bunkers in Taiwan in the event of war.
An unnamed Chinese pilot, who flew one of the Chinese aircraft crossing into Taiwan’s ADIZ on March 29, said, “This is all ours” after being asked to leave the airspace by the pilot of a Taiwanese interceptor aircraft, according to local media, who obtained a recording of the pilot’s remark from the Facebook page “Southwest Airspace of TW.”
