US rapper and actor DMX is in serious condition in hospital following a heart attack, says his lawyer Murray Richman.

Mr Richman told US media he didn’t know whether the heart attack was brought on by a drug overdose, as reported by TMZ.

DMX has publicly battled substance abuse for years, and spent several periods in rehab.

He is seen as a hip-hop icon, and has collaborated with artists including JAY-Z, Ja Rule, Eve and LL Cool J as well as appearing in films.

The 50-year-old, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken to hospital in White Plains, New York late on Friday evening, Mr Richman said, where he is surrounded by his family.

“He was on life support,” the lawyer said. “He’s been taken off of life support. He is breathing on his own but there is a little brain activity.”

April 5 (UPI) – South Korean electronics firm LG announced Monday it will be closing its mobile phone business after years of declining sales.

The company made the announcement in a statement Monday after its board of directors approved the decision to stop producing or selling the handsets.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese health authorities are concerned that variants of the coronavirus are driving a nascent fourth wave in the pandemic with just 109 days remaining until the Tokyo Olympics.

The variants appear to be more infectious and may be resistant to vaccines, which are still not widely available in Japan. The situation is worst in Osaka, where infections hit fresh records last week, prompting the regional government to start targeted lockdown measures for one month from Monday.

Osaka cancelled Olympic Torch relay events there, but Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has insisted Japan will carry out the Games as scheduled. Suga said on Sunday that measures employed in Osaka could be expanded to Tokyo and elsewhere if needed.

There were 249 new infections in Tokyo on Monday, still well below the peak of over 2,500 in January. In Osaka, a record 666 cases were reported on Saturday.

But another strain, known as E484K, may be more widespread. Around 70% of coronavirus patients tested at a Tokyo hospital last month carried the mutation that was different from the British and South African varieties, Japanese public broadcaster NHK said on Sunday.

A118-year-old woman from the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh created a record by receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Tulsibai, the centenarian from the Khimlasa area in the Sagar district, appealed to all to get vaccinated as soon as possible. She is likely to be the oldest woman in India to have received the coronavirus vaccine.

After receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at a local vaccination center, Tulsibai, speaking in Bundeli language, said she didn’t face any difficulty after receiving the Covid-19 shot and everyone should get vaccinated like her, only then the coronavirus will go.

Earlier, a 107-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh held the record of being the oldest person to have received the Coronavirus vaccine.
