Kind of. As I see it, it's really an old and cheap strategy:
Admit to something lesser, even if embarassing, to hide the real thing.
Even better if it's embarassing, as it makes it more believable.

Why would he even smoke parmesan?
Does he not have money enough & connections to not have to search his carpet for parmesan crumbs or crack leftovers?
