4 reported killed as fire sweeps through Chinese shopping mall, sending column of smoke towering above city

Four people have reportedly died and two were injured after a fire broke out at a shopping mall in the city of Chizhou, Anhui, sending black smoke billowing up from the commercial complex in the city center.

On Tuesday, the Chizhou Fire Rescue Detachment dispatched 12 vehicles to the scene of a blaze which was reported around 9am local time at the Tongluowan Commercial Plaza at Dongjiekou. The emergency services succeeded in extinguishing the flames, which reportedly first broke out on the top floor of the complex, and recovered six people who were trapped.

All six were sent to the city’s hospital for treatment, two of whom were later discharged, local media reported.

Footage shared online via Chinese social media showed smoke billowing up from the building, growing in intensity before the emergency services arrived at the scene. Police and other emergency service personnel were also filmed outside the building.

The Chizhou Fire Rescue Detachment said that an investigation into how the fire started was underway, and called on citizens not to believe in – or spread – rumors, but instead wait for an official update on the cause.

The IMF And World Bank, Who Pay No Taxes, Are About To Talk About Tax Hikes And Inequality

The IMF and World Bank spring meetings are about to kick off, where those who pay no income tax get to talk about tax evasion, tax hikes, inequality, and Building Back Better. US Treasury Secretary Yellen will use the platform to push for a global standardization - upwards - of corporate tax rates. National Security Advisor Sullivan has also tweeted in support:

“The US is committed to end the race to the bottom on corporate tax rates and prevent corporations from shifting jobs overseas. A core piece of our national security strategy is national competitiveness: creating jobs & raising wages at home, not incentivizing tax havens.”

That as Democratic Senator Manchin says he doesn’t support the tax increase from 21% to 28% proposed by his own party, with 25% being the limit; and Republicans attack POTUS and FLOTUS for having used a corporate vehicle to reduce their tax on $13m of 2017-19 income from book royalties and speaking fees.

Taxes are unpopular with those who pay them, and those who can will try to avoid them, but whether taxes are needed depends on one’s politics, not economics (and actually sees neoliberalism and MMT agree: they are optional). Moreover, imposing a global corporate tax rate makes logical sense if one wants to limit the power of capital vs. labor - and such agreements are seen in other areas of regulation. Except:

This would make a key tax rate a global, not a national issue; who would decide the rate?; what if it didn’t fit the economic cycle in some states?; tax hikes would hit smaller global economies hard; yet there would have to be more state spending to prevent a recession. Yet even standardised tax wouldn’t solve the problem of capital and jobs flight: what of interest rate differentials - or do we need one interest rate/curve?; what of regulations - or do they need to be standardized? And what of exchange rates – or should we adopt one currency to make it all easier? In which case we will all need one central bank too - and won’t that solve all problems, as we see in Europe?

In short, this appears a reach for economic utopia – and yet we live in an ever-more realpolitik world. However, as this is now “US national security”, don’t dismiss the risk of gunboat diplomacy being used to achieve it - but that will only accelerate the ongoing global arms race to the top that is matching the global tax race to the bottom.

It’s probably a sign of getting older, but my mind keeps turning back to the key books of my youth for guidance at these moments. Koestler’s ‘Darkness at Noon’ in particular holds truths deeply relevant to today. Yes, it’s a high-level view, but it is even more valid than where inflation will be in six months. (Higher, of course: the only issue is if that inflation is then stagflation or not, and then how long until deflation returns.) Consider these quotes:

Border Patrol Intercepts Convicted Murders, Child Rapists Crossing US Border.

U.S. Border Patrol has arrested convicted child rapists and murderers attempting to cross the U.S. border.

On April 4th in the San Diego sector of the border, agents intercepted a “35-year-old El Salvadorian national, had been convicted in 2009 for aggravated sexual battery of a child under 13 in Virginia.”

“He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The man was subsequently removed to El Salvador in 2014 after having a portion of his criminal sentence suspended,” Customs and Border Protection (CBP) adds.

CBP also notes a dramatic increase in sex offenders crossing the U.S. border, adding “in fiscal year 2021, which began October 1, SDC’s Border Patrol agents have arrested 31 sex offenders exceeding the 25 sex offenders arrested in San Diego Sector during fiscal year 2020.”

On April 2nd, CBP officials encountered two illegal aliens, who, when a records check was complete, revealed “that one of the men, a 45-year-old Mexican national, had been convicted of second-degree murder in California in 2003.”

“At that time, he had been tried, convicted, and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. The man now faces new charges for illegal entry after being previously deported,” the press release adds.

Rioters hurl PETROL BOMBS at police trucks, set roadblock amid post-Brexit unrest in Northern Ireland

Rioters attacked dozens of police officers amid renewed unrest across Northern Ireland, where tensions are growing over Brexit and a UK-EU trade deal.

Footage from RT’s Ruptly video agency shows a group of people hurling petrol bombs at passing police trucks in the unionist town of Carrickfergus, near Belfast, on Monday night.

The rioters set up roadblocks and lit garbage containers on fire. A bottle that was used to make a Molotov cocktail can be seen lying on the grass.

Anger has been brewing in Northern Ireland after a post-Brexit UK-EU trade deal imposed customs and border checks on some goods moving between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. Northern Ireland was effectively allowed to remain in the EU single market for goods in order to avoid the formation of a physical border between the region and the Republic of Ireland, an EU member state.

People are also outraged that authorities declined to prosecute politicians from the pro-EU republican Sinn Fein party for attending the funeral of Bobby Storey, a former Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) fighter. The event drew around 2,000 people in Belfast last June, despite the fact a maximum of 30 were allowed to attend funerals under Covid-19 regulations.

According to UK media reports, anger towards police has been further inflamed by recent drugs raids against the South East Antrim Ulster Defence Association, a criminal gang with ties to unionist paramilitaries, and the arrest of some of its members.

Police have struggled to contain disturbances in recent days. Rioters threw petrol bombs and bricks in what law enforcement described as an “orchestrated attack” against officers. Twenty-seven officers were injured in riots in Belfast and Derry on Friday night, and five were hurt in Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey on Sunday.

Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Superintendent Davy Beck urged community leaders to help stop the violence, adding that he believed “a group of disaffected criminal gangs” was behind the attacks on officers. Police said rioters were mostly young people, including minors as young as 12, who were influenced by “criminal elements.”

MP and spokesperson for the Democratic Unionist Party Gregory Campbell also appealed for peace. “Rioting and injuring rank and file officers will only result in young people being criminalized,” he said on Sunday.

Rep. Jim Banks Accuses Biden of Tax Avoidance ‘Hypocrisy’

In a March 25 letter to the president, Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Banks called out Joe Biden’s tax avoidance “hypocrisy.”

Republican Study Committee Chairman Representative Jim Banks asked President Joe Biden whether he would put his proverbial money where his mouth is in regard to the tax avoidance Biden himself publicly criticized.

During remarks on Biden’s infrastructure plan, the president complained “millions of Americans lost their jobs last year while the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans saw their net worth increase by $4 trillion,” saying “it just goes to show you how distorted and unfair our economy has become.”

In the March 25 letter, Banks asked Biden whether he would address the “legally dubious tax strategy” he said the president and his wife used to skirt roughly $500,000 in payroll taxes. Banks pointed out “S-corporations” used on Biden’s 2017, 2018, and 2019 tax returns, in which “[Biden] and the First Lady sheltered over $13 million” from taxes designed to support Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. Banks wrote:

Press reports indicate that you both directed revenue from book royalties and speaking appearance fees into these two corporations avoiding self-employment payroll tax liabilities that would have flowed to America’s Medicare program that provides care to over 60 million seniors.

He then referenced a July 2019 article in the Wall Street Journal in which a Tax Policy Center analyst observed claimed: “there’s no reason for these [earnings] to be in an S-Corp — none, other than to save on self-employment tax.”

Breitbart News previously reported “on much of the income Joe and Jill Biden generated through the corporations they established to pay themselves—CelticCapri and Giacoppa are the names of the two so-called S-Corporations—they did not have to pay payroll taxes collected to fund Social Security and Medicare.”

Speaking to Fox News, Banks said “House Democrats used their oversight power to subpoena Trump for his tax returns, but they’ve completely ignored Joe Biden’s abuse of our tax code,” promising changes next year.

“When we take back the House in 2022,” Banks said, “Oversight [Committee] Republicans won’t forget about Biden’s legally dubious tax avoidance schemes.”

Banks said the issue shows that “Democrat hypocrisy is limitless” and their widely-publicized rhetoric on closing tax loopholes might not apply to everyone. “The ACA imposed higher taxes on millions of Americans, but not Joe Biden. He paid $121,000 less in ObamaCare taxes thanks to an obscure tax loophole. Talk about inside baseball,” Banks told the outlet.

“Joe Biden advocated for expanding Medicare, and is pushing to close tax loopholes and for a $3 trillion tax hike,” Banks continued. “At the same time, ‘Amtrak Joe’ made $13 million through speaking fees in just three years, then skimped over $500,000 from Medicare recipients through tax loopholes.”

In his letter, Banks closed with a pointed question for the president: “Do you intend to undo your hypocrisy and pay these taxes back to the American people?”

Gulf Cartel Boss Arrested in Mexican Border State Raid

Mexican military forces arrested a top leader within the Gulf Cartel. The collar comes as the organization works to provide financial support to political candidates in the northern border region, U.S. law enforcement sources tell Breitbart Texas.

Known as “El Vaquero,” Evaristo Cruz Sanchez is the current leader of the Matamoros faction of the Gulf Cartel and is linked to violence throughout northeastern Tamaulipas.

The raid took place on Tuesday at noon in Salinas Victoria, a short distance from the Monterrey Metropolitan area in Nuevo Leon, a U.S. law enforcement source tells Breitbart Texas. Mexican intelligence forces were tracking Vaquero after he surfaced in Nuevo Leon. The crime boss was trying to keep a low profile and switched safe houses regularly. El Vaquero sought refuge in Monterrey after military forces and the National Guard started hunting him in Tamaulipas, the law enforcement source revealed.

Mexican military forces arrested El Vaquero as he was meeting with a man known only as “El Chago” Villarreal, a local crime boss and former member of Los Zetas. He now supports Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. According to the U.S. law enforcement source, the two drug figures met to discuss the financing of political campaigns in northern Mexico.

‘Merkel Successor’ Calls for Germany to Enter Even Tougher Lockdown

The new chairman of Germany’s ruling CDU who may yet replace Angela Merkel as Chancellor has called for the nation to enter an even deeper lockdown, as it battles with low rates of vaccination and coronavirus ‘third wave’.

Armin Laschet, who is the President of German state North Rhine Westphalia and since January the Chairman of the nation’s ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party argued for what he called a ‘bridge lockdown’ Monday, saying present terms were not harsh enough.

Using the metaphor of a bridge over troubled waters, Laschet fundamentally implied that lockdown needed to go deeper and longer, until enough Germans were vaccinated to make coronavirus less of a threat to German society. This, in many respects, is no small ask — after months of failures at European and national level, Germany is well behind first-world peers like the United Kingdom and United States in vaccination levels.

Deutsche Welle reports Laschet’s comments, when he said: “We need a bridge lockdown. We have to build a bridge to the point in time when a lot of people are vaccinated… We are very close to the goal… For the last meters we need an extra effort and that’s what I’m calling for today.”

Reuters report his proposal includes a potential nighttime curfew, for Germans to come into physical contact with fewer people, and more home working.

Critics within Germany dismissed Laschet’s calls as vague and ill-thought-through.

The comments come as part of a series of such claims, as would-be successors of Chancellor Merkel attempt out outbid one another in coronavirus policy as the party picks its next Chancellor. The answer of who will follow Merkel is expected in the coming weeks.

Clear Link Between AstraZeneca Vaccine and Rare Blood Clots in Brain, EMA Official Tells Paper

ROME—There is a link between AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine and very rare blood clots in the brain but the possible causes are still unknown, a senior official for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said in an interview published on Tuesday.

“In my opinion, we can now say it, it is clear that there is an association with the vaccine. However, we still do not know what causes this reaction,” Marco Cavaleri, chair of the vaccine evaluation team at the EMA, told Italian daily Il Messaggero when asked about the possible relation between the AstraZeneca shot and cases of brain blood clots.

Cavaleri added that the EMA would say there is a link although the regulator would not likely be in a position this week to give an indication regarding the age of individuals to whom the AstraZeneca shot should be given.

He did not provide evidence to support his comments.

AstraZeneca was not immediately available for comment. It has said previously its studies have found no higher risk of clots because of the vaccine.

The regulator has consistently said the benefits outweigh the risks as it investigates 44 reports of an extremely rare brain clotting ailment known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) out of 9.2 million people in the European Economic Area who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The World Health Organization has also backed the vaccine.

The EMA said last week that its review had at present not identified any specific risk factors, such as age, gender, or a previous medical history of clotting disorders, for these very rare events. A causal link with the vaccine is not proven but is possible and further analysis is continuing, the agency said.

A high proportion among the reported cases affected young and middle-aged women but that did not lead EMA to conclude this cohort was particularly at risk from AstraZeneca’s shot.

The EMA is expected to give an update on its investigation on Wednesday.

Some countries, including France, Germany, and the Netherlands, have suspended the use of the vaccine in younger people while the investigations continue.

Scientists are exploring several possibilities that might explain the extremely rare brain blood clots that occurred in individuals in the days and weeks after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine.

European investigators have put forward one theory that the vaccine triggers an unusual antibody in some rare cases; others are trying to understand whether the cases are linked with birth control pills.

But many scientists say there is no definitive evidence and it is not clear whether or why AstraZeneca’s vaccine would cause an issue not shared by other vaccines that target a similar part of the coronavirus.

In a separate interview, Armando Genazzani, a member of the EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), told La Stampa daily that it was “plausible” that the blood clots were correlated to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Biden is considering revealing later this month a second part of his overall proposal, which would have a broader focus on social welfare proposals — such as health care, the care-giving economy, climate, and community colleges.

The idea of the $20 million pledge is to help jumpstart as much as $100 million in funding to help encourage support for Biden’s overall agenda.

Former Air Force intelligence officer accused of trying to extort Matt Gaetz breaks silence to admit he DID ask congressman's father for $25M - but says it was to rescue American hostage Robert Levinson in Iran

The former Air Force intelligence officer accused of trying to extort $25million from Florida Rep Matt Gaetz's family over a federal sex trafficking investigation has admitted that he did approach the congressman's father for money - but insists it wasn't an extortion scheme.

Bob Kent sought to clear his name in a bizarre interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo on Monday night, where he explained that he contacted Gaetz's father Don last month seeking a $25million loan to finance a plot to rescue American hostage Robert Levinson in Iran.

Kent claims to have evidence that Levinson, who disappeared more than a decade ago, is still alive, even though experts and his own family believe he is dead.

He said that he thought involving Gaetz in the rescue mission would create 'good will' for the congressman as he faced 'legal issues' - in reference to allegations aired in the New York Times last week that Gaetz is under investigation for his relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

'Matt Gaetz is in need of good publicity, and I'm in need of $25million to save Robert Levinson,' Kent said.

He insisted that it was not his intention to extort the Gaetz family, saying that he told Don he wouldn't expose the investigation if he said no to the loan.

'I stopped [Don] immediately and explained this was not an extortion attempt,' he explained. 'I said, look, this is a legitimate offer to help rescue Robert Levinson.'

Kent told the same story in an interview with Sirius Radio host Michael Smerconish earlier on Monday.

'I never threatened the man - matter of fact, it was the opposite: I told him if he decides not to help us, he'll never hear from me again,' Kent said of Don.

'I can't help how it sounds.'

The complex saga began last week when the Times published its report citing three anonymous sources that Gaetz was under investigation by the Department of Justice for sex trafficking the 17-year-old girl.

Gaetz hit back by denying that he'd had sex with the underage girl or trafficked her across state lines, as the Times story claimed, and instead claimed he was being targeted by extortionists.

He said that a former DoJ official - David McGee - and Kent were trying to get $25million out of his family and was using the sex trafficking probe as leverage. McGee has denied it.

Gaetz's father Don, a former Florida senator, backed up his son's claim and said that the pair were both working with the FBI on a simultaneous investigation into the alleged extortion attempt.

On Wednesday, Gaetz produced text message screenshots and emails to The Washington Examiner in which McGee and Kent claimed to have knowledge of the sex trafficking investigation.

According to the documents, Gaetz had been seen in compromising photos having sex with underage prostitutes.

RUMOURS OF 30-YEAR VIRUSECRECY ACT

Last Saturday I received an email alleging that, under the Official Secrets Act, all dealings, papers and memos/emails relating to Covid19 will be sealed under the Thirty Year Rule.

Yesterday I contacted two bureacratic and two political sources. One confirmed it, two said “wouldn’t surprise me”, one said probably a hoax.

Today’s Slogpost is designed to demonstrate that, on paper, the story is highly credible given the continuing secrecy and free speech vandalism being routinely practised in the MSM, Whitehall, Downing Street and social media.

It is also consistent with clues I revealed some months back suggesting a biowarfare element spearheaded by Sir Mark Sedwill: the 30 year rule is rarely applied in peacetime.

Anchor lady said ‘so you want compulsory vaccination then?’ to which a horrified Currie replied certainly not no good gracious me I just want the freedom to not stand next to selfish people who don’t want the jab.

The presenter didn’t ask whether she was therefore in favour of leper colonies, which was sad because that’s exactly what I’d have done. However, with the viewers nodding enthusiastically at home to the wise words of Edwina the Eagle, a second person with frizzy hair, chubby face and eyes that reminded me of Susan Boyle popped up in another video frame to woffle on about Russian fascism and Mrs Thatcher would never have allowed this.

Anchor bimbo reminded this anonymous lady that Covid19 “is a deadly disease” (cut to the Eaglet nodding furiously) and so what would she do? This evoked muttering followed by a quick interruption from the interrogator (cut to Currie shaking her head with a patronising smile) and then whammo, onto cat stuck in tree somewhere near East Grinstead.

Judge halts law requiring burial or cremation for aborted fetuses. Ohio cannot start enforcing a mandate that fetal remains be either buried or cremated, a court ruled on Monday. The law was set to take effect today.

Now, Hamilton County Judge Alison Hatheway has temporarily blocked enforcement of the fetal remains measure (Senate Bill 27), which had been signed into law by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine at the end of December. Under the law, Ohio women who received surgical abortions would be asked to choose whether the fetal remains are buried or cremated; if they chose not to make a decision, it would be left up to abortion clinics.

Abortion clinics and their staff who circumvent the rule could face punishment including license suspension, fines, or being charged with a first-degree misdemeanor crime.

But the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Planned Parenthood challenged the new abortion mandate in a lawsuit filed against the Ohio Department of Health and state officials on behalf of several abortion providers. The suit asked that penalties for providers be halted, since "compliance is impossible due to the Ohio Department of Health's failure to establish or issue necessary rules and regulations. The law takes effect on April 6, but the state is not charged with issuing rules until July 5."

"The absence of regulations leaves Ohio abortion providers in an impossible situation," the groups and their allies said in a statement. "Despite the fact that we are in the midst of a global pandemic and there are vast and numerous public health tasks before the Ohio Department of Health, the State passed this frivolous and medically unnecessary law. We simply want reassurance that we won't be punished for our inability to comply with a directive that doesn't exist."

The fetal remains law is only the latest attempt by Ohio Republicans to add more restrictions to abortion access, points out The Enquirer:

Those have included bans on telemedicine abortions; on dilation and evacuation, or D&E, abortions; on abortions in cases where a fetal Down syndrome diagnosis is a factor; and on all abortions after detection of the first fetal heartbeat, which can occur as early as six weeks into pregnancy before many women know they are pregnant. Courts have blocked the latter three laws as constitutional challenges proceed.

The ban on the remote prescription of abortion drugs is also being challenged by Planned Parenthood. "With the law set to take effect April 12, the organization asked for immediate relief from the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court in a lawsuit filed [last Thursday] against the Ohio Department of Health, the state Medical Board and prosecutors in the state's three largest counties," notes the Associated Press.

Coronavirus jabs continue killing people as homicidal governments dishonestly claim they are “safe and effective”

Another 25-or-so cases of “rare blood clots” occurred in Brits who were jabbed for the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) with AstraZeneca’s injection, and the government of the United Kingdom has sort of acknowledged it.

Stopping short of flat-out linking the vaccine to the deadly adverse events, U.K. authorities are now reluctantly claiming that some batches of the injection must be “defective,” and this is why lots of people are becoming seriously injured or dropping dead from the shots.

Despite all this, Britain’s medicines regulator is still claiming that the jabs at large are “safe,” insisting that it is still unclear, somehow, whether or not the injections had anything to do with the deadly blood clots.

A number of other European countries have halted all administration of the AstraZeneca jab citing similar adverse events, and yet the U.K. is insistent that every injection is “safe and effective” for continued administration.

“In total, MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) said had [sic] identified 30 cases of rare blood clot events out of 18.1 million AstraZeneca doses administered up to and including March 24,” reported the Associated Press (AP).

“The risk associated with this type of blood clot is ‘very small,'” it added.

According to Dr. June Raine, the agency’s chief executive, Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) injections from AstraZeneca are very good and their “benefits … in preventing Covid-19 infection and its complications continue to outweigh any risks and the public should continue to get their vaccine when invited to do so.”

Nobody with a brain wants a Chinese virus injection

The Netherlands, meanwhile, is taking a much different approach by joining the other European nations that are no longer administering the AstraZeneca jab.

At first, the Dutch government had planned to simply restrict administration only to people under the age of 60, which is what Germany did. Instead, the Netherlands ultimately axed the jab entirely in order to protect its population against further damage.

According to Dutch Health Minister Hugo de Jonge, the halt is only temporary as “a precautionary measure.” In time, in other words, AstraZeneca injections will once again be plunged into the arms of the Dutch, which is music to the ears of the British government.

The only good news with all this is that many of the countries that were among the first to halt administration of the AstraZeneca injection before temporarily reinstating their administration are halting the program a second time, reports indicate.

A user shared a clip from Chinese-based Unitree robotics firm that shows a squadron of four-legged machines moving in unison.

The AI-powered, canine-like robot, named, Aliengo, is designed with depth perception, high explosive sport performance and an advanced protection level – among other features.

The short video shows dozens of robots crouched down on the floor, but then spring up to a squatting position, lean forward and then return to their original position - all at the same time.

However, the video has sparked some funny, and terrifying responses, on Twitter with some likening to a scene from 'The Terminator' and 'Black Mirror.'

One of the European drug regulator's senior officials today claimed there is now a 'clear' link between AstraZeneca's Covid vaccine and potentially deadly blood clots.

Marco Cavaleri, head of vaccines at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), said that CVST — a brain blockage that can lead to a stroke — was occurring more often than expected in younger people.

But he admitted that the body was still baffled about how the jab may trigger the rare complication.

EMA officials are already probing the link between the vaccine and CVST, which is more common in young women. Watchdog bosses are expected to make a formal announcement tomorrow.

Despite his comments, Mr Cavaleri's agency has repeatedly insisted AstraZeneca's jab is safe and the benefits outweigh any risks.

Last week it slapped down Germany for suspending its use in under-60s, arguing there was 'no evidence' to support age-based restrictions.

But at the same time, the watchdog paved the way for a potential U-turn, warning that the rate of the complication did appear to be slightly higher than expected in vaccinated under-60s.

Experts across the board say the evidence is now 'shifting' and that the jab is likely – in extremely rare cases – to cause the brain blockage.

The UK's safety watchdog, the MHRA, has so far spotted 30 rare clotting events in 18.1million doses – around one in every 600,000. But the EMA believes it may occur in up to one in every 100,000 under-60s.

The Ukrainian government reports two more soldiers killed in ongoing fighting in the Donbass as Kiev withdraws from the Trilateral Contact Group of Ukraine, Russia and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe meetings in the Belarusian capital of Minsk because of what it calls “hostile rhetoric” from the host nation, which it also accuses of being under Russian influence.

The Pentagon warned it was “aware of Russian troop movements” on or near the Donbass border as the State Department denounced what it called provocations by Russia, with Reuters paraphrasing State Department spokesman Ned Price as saying Washington “would be concerned by any effort by Moscow to intimidate Ukraine whether it occurred on Russian territory or within Ukraine.”

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov today informed reporters that “we have had contact with the US administration on the situation in the Donbass, and we have exhaustively explained to their side what is happening.” However, he reflected grave concerns on the Russian side over what he deemed increasingly belligerent rhetoric from the U.S. and its NATO allies over Ukraine, warning that “Washington should be concerned about the consequences of this coordinated policy.”

Today NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg “express[ed] serious concern about Russia’s military activities in and around Ukraine & ongoing ceasefire violations,” adding that “NATO firmly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty & territorial integrity.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in referring to NATO’s Membership Action Plan (MAP), the final stage to full membership, said: “We are committed to reforming our army and the defense sector, but reforms alone cannot stop Russia. British authorities said they have seized drugs worth 4.3 million pounds (nearly US$6 million) from suspected members of a criminal network that sold MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, amphetamines and other narcotics on the dark web.

The U.K.’s National Crime Agency (NCA) arrested last week two suspects and raided premises in London and northeastern England in a joint operation with the U.S. Homeland Security.

Officers seized mobile phones, computers and drug packaging paraphernalia, the agency said in a statement on Friday.

Last summer, the NCA intercepted parcels of MDMA set to ship to several global locations and after accessing messages exchanged by gang members via EncroChat, a now extinct encrypted phone network widely used by organized crime, police identified the suspects and launched the searches.

The group imported drugs from the Netherlands to the U.K. and then sold them on the dark web using the handles HundredsUK, Hundredsandthousands, Sundaefundae, and 100and1000s.

Packages intercepted by police were reportedly destined for addresses in the U.K., the U.S., Israel, Norway, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur.

One of the arrested suspects admitted posting over 100 packages.

Throughout the operation officials have recovered 90 kilograms of MDMA, 134 kilograms of Amphetamine and more than 6,000 Diazepam tablets worth millions of dollars.

“This investigation shows that those who try to use the dark web and encrypted communication devices to anonymously commit crimes can be identified,” NCA Operations Manager Martin Clarke said.

Police continue to search for two more suspects believed to be overseas.

Tennessee Man Charged with Aiding ISIS Just a Harmless Loser, His Lawyer Says

Prosecutors say a Tennessee man has been helping spread Islamic State propaganda, but a defense attorney told a judge the man’s a loser who lives with his mother and isn’t a threat.

Benjamin Alan Carpenter, dubbed “Abu Hamza,” was arrested in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 24 after a grand jury indicted him on charges of attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS, the Justice Department announced Monday, following a detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Debra C. Poplin.

Carpenter remains in custody pending Poplin’s decision on whether to hold him until his trial, which is set for June 1.

Carpenter is the leader of Ahlut-Tawhid Publications, which translates and publishes pro-ISIS content and official ISIS media in English, the Justice Department said.

He provided English translations of ISIS content to someone he believed was affiliated with the terrorist group, but who was actually an undercover FBI employee, it said.

But Carpenter has not traveled to meet with ISIS members outside the U.S. and mostly works from a bedroom in his mother’s home in Knox County, his attorney said at the hearing, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Assistant Federal Defender Benjamin Sharp described his client as part nerd, part loser who spends most days on a computer in the bedroom, where he’s lived for more than two years since breaking up with a girlfriend, the newspaper reported. He has no bank account, no car and works a few hours a week as a pet sitter.

Carpenter’s mother has promised to shut down her internet, get rid of her cellphone and watch over her son if the judge lets him out of pretrial detention, the newspaper reported. He previously chatted with ISIS online, at least once using her computer, prosecutors said.

Carpenter has been under FBI scrutiny since at least 2015 and is on the no-fly list, the local newspaper reported.

“We’ve known about him five years,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey Arrowood said at the hearing. “He’s evolved over time.”

He’s grown more radicalized and popular among terrorist leaders seeking to recruit American Muslims, Arrowood said.

The media company he founded produces videos and newsletters promoting terrorist causes, idolizing terrorist leaders as celebrities and treating beheadings as justice, prosecutors said.

Fluent in Arabic, Carpenter provides translation services and “regularly communicated” with ISIS leaders and recruiters through encrypted messaging services, Arrowood said.

US Sails Warships into South China Sea as Philippine-China Tensions Rise

The Philippines accused China of sending a 'maritime militia' near a disputed reef, but Beijing says the ships are fishing vessels

Tensions between the Philippines and China are on the rise over the disputed waters of the South China Sea. Manila has accused Beijing of sending a “maritime militia” near Whitson Reef, a feature about 175 miles west of the Philippine province of Palawan, although Beijing insists the ships in the area are only fishing vessels.

Manila’s rhetoric against China’s activities in the region has gotten more strident in recent days. On Monday, an aide to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte said the presence of Chinese vessels near Whitson Reef risks damaging ties and “unwanted hostilities that both countries would rather not pursue.”

Amid the tensions, the US sailed an aircraft carrier and its strike group into the South China Sea.

According to the South China Sea Probing Initiative (SCSPI), the USS Theodore Roosevelt and two other warships entered the disputed waters on Sunday.

Last week, US officials reassured Manila that Washington would intervene in the event of a naval incident between China and the Philippines in the region. According to the White House, in a conversation with his Philippine counterpart, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan “reaffirmed the applicability of the US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty in the South China Sea.”

The US and the Philippines are currently negotiating the Visiting Forces Agreement, which allows US troops to be stationed in the Southeast Asian country on a rotational basis. Duterte was ready to scrap the agreement after the US sanctioned Philippine officials for their role in the country’s drug war but reversed the decision, citing tensions in the South China Sea.

Rivlin reluctantly taps Netanyahu to form government: ‘Not an easy moral choice’

PM says he’ll make ‘every effort to end cycle of elections’; president acknowledges no candidate seems able to make a coalition, wishes he could let Knesset decide

President Reuven Rivlin on Monday gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the first crack at forming a government but noted that he was doing so reluctantly, both because no party leader appeared to have enough support to succeed at cobbling together a ruling coalition and because he had “moral and ethical” reservations given that Netanyahu is on trial for corruption.

Netanyahu later urged political parties to end their “personal boycotts” and join his government, saying he would make “every effort” to remove Israel from the “cycle of elections” and establish a “strong government for all of Israel’s citizens.”

In announcing his choice, Rivlin spoke of his moral dilemma in light of Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial and the public discourse surrounding it, expressing his fears for the future of the country amid the divides that have resulted in four inconclusive elections in succession.

“This is not an easy decision on a moral and ethical basis, in my mind,” Rivlin said. “And I fear for my country. But I am doing what is required of me as president of the State of Israel, according to the law and to the ruling of the court, and realizing the will of the sovereign – the Israeli people.”

Rivlin’s choice came a day after he held consultations with all party leaders in the Knesset to hear whom they will back to form a government. No party leader had the support of a majority of the Knesset’s 120 lawmakers.

The parties to the conflict placed the blame for the exacerbation on each other. In his new memoir, Hunter Biden declares there is a simple explanation for a life filled with addiction to drugs and alcohol. "I have the capacity and tenacity to use to excess, and a single-minded unwillingness to quit," he writes. "That makes addiction easy, rather than hard."

Unraveling his extensive deals with foreign characters — some with controversial histories — while his father was in government, however, is a more complex story.

And no other anecdote illustrates that better than Hunter Biden's brief engagement with a fugitive Ukrainian oligarch's team in 2015, one that began with discussions about lobbying his father's administration to make an indictment go away and ended with a separate $3 million deal and a handsome $275,000 transfer into a firm that routinely paid the younger Biden.

Following the money is a dizzying exercise, with multiple business firms and bank accounts and a discussion about one deal that ends with payment for another business opportunity.

The tale begins in April 2015, when Hunter Biden got an email from his business partner — the now-convicted felon Devon Archer — about a plan to assist the oligarch Dmitri Firtash, a Ukrainian who was under U.S. indictment by the Obama-Biden administration, and at the time, a fugitive.

The goal was to see whether Firtash's felony indictment could be erased or eased with the help of the Obama-Biden State Department, where Hunter Biden's father held much sway and where the vice president's longtime national security adviser, Tony Blinken, served as deputy secretary under John Kerry, according to emails and interviews published last week by Just the News.

By June 2015, the discussions had evolved enough that a member of Firtash's inner circle — childhood friend Hares Youssef — traveled to the United States to meet with Hunter Biden. Eventually, Biden told Youssef that he could not help on the Firtash case, and the conversation evolved to how Hunter Biden and his partner Archer might be able to help Youssef with one of his companies aspiring to create micropayment donations technology, Youssef told Just the News.

Youssef said Archer introduced him to a technology fund in Hawaii called mbloom and persuaded him to invest. By September 2015, Youssef said he was investing $3 million os his own money in mbloom, a transfer that got immediately flagged by U.S. banking officials, according to a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filed with the Treasury Department and first revealed in the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists' FinCEN Files.

After Youssef's money reached America, mbloom transferred much of the money to an affiliate company called mbloom BDC Advisor LLC, according to the the SAR report cited by the FinCen Files Web site. And mbloom BDC Advisors LLC sent $275,000 to a company controlled by Archer called Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC, according to records obtained by the FBI.

The figure includes nearly 19,000 unaccompanied minors, which tops the prior all-time monthly high of nearly 12,000 in May 2019. According to the Washington Post, the surge has allowed nearly 1,000 illegal migrants—often cartel smugglers bringing drugs—to enter the United States daily without being captured.

Both Democrats and Republicans have labeled the situation a "crisis," a tag that President Joe Biden and top White House officials have rejected. Biden insisted during a March press conference that the surge is merely a seasonal spike, falsely asserting that the historic number of migrant apprehensions happens "every single solitary year." He has yet to address the record number of border crossings in March, and the White House did not return a request for comment.

Biden administration officials expect to encounter 2 million migrants at the southern border in 2021. Border apprehensions have not surpassed 1 million since 2006. Many Border Patrol agents working the northern border are now being reassigned to the Rio Grande Valley to help deal with the surge.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W. Va.) visited the southeastern border with Texas Democratic congressman Henry Cuellar on Thursday. The senator suggested a 90-day moratorium on immigration to quell what he called a "human crisis."

"So if that means shutting everything down for 90 days of how we have people come into our country, sending that message … is that going to put the pressure?" Manchin said. "Something has to be done and it has to be expedited. … This problem is not going away. The problem will not cure itself, I can assure you, and they're coming in droves."

The migrant surge has led to "severe overcrowding" at Customs and Border Protection detention facilities, two independent inspectors concluded Friday. The Biden administration has responded by pushing to relocate unaccompanied minors to nonstandard holding facilities, a move that federal officials warn will subject migrant children to "extremely dangerous" conditions. The White House last week asked the Pentagon to use military bases in Texas and California to house such migrants.

Administration officials have also asked unrelated agency employees to apply for one-to-four-month volunteer stints at the border in an attempt to aid Border Patrol agents, many of whom have been pulled from policing the territory to care for migrant children. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission chairwoman Charlotte Burrows, for example, called on staffers to "lend support" to the "unprecedented influx of unaccompanied children at our Southern Border" in a Tuesday email obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

"These children are alone, frightened, separated from family, and currently being housed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in holding areas that were not meant for children beyond a short period of time," Burrows said.

The Democrats did not respond to longstanding criticisms of the SPLC regarding its racial discrimination and sexual harassment scandal or the fact that former SPLC employees have described the “hate” accusations as a “highly profitable scam.”

“After a tumultuous 2020, and the January 6 attack on our nation’s Capitol, we seek to enter an era of unity and repair in our country,” Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) began in her statement. “Now, more than ever before, the work done by the Southern Poverty Law Center to document hate and their insights contained in their annual ‘Year in Hate’ report should be brought front and center to inform our policy and our priorities.”

“It is time we extinguish all bigoted beliefs, address the urgent threat that extremism and hate groups pose on marginalized communities, and end actions motivated by hate. If DeLauro seriously aimed to promote unity, she would avoid the SPLC’s annual “Year in Hate and Extremism” report like the plague. Top officials in President Joe Biden’s administration on Sunday made false claims about the president’s roughly $2 trillion infrastructure proposal the White House called the American Jobs Plan.

A key figure about the number of jobs that will be created was inaccurate. When Biden mentioned the same figure on Friday, what he said was accurate in a literal sense, but misleading because of a key pointed that was omitted.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg while appearing on ABC News promoted Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan and claimed it would create 19 million jobs in the country.

“And independent analysis by economists earlier last week said that this will lead to 19 million jobs,” Buttigieg said on Sunday. “And one of the most interesting things is that a lot of the research is also saying that the majority of those jobs will not require a college degree.”

The transportation secretary repeated the same language when he was interviewed on NBC News.

“The American Jobs Plan is about a generational investment. It's going to create 19 million jobs,” he said. “And we're talking about economic growth that's going to go on for years and years. So yeah, the Rescue Plan was largely about just getting through this season, getting America back from the brink.”

White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese promoted a similar number during his appearance on Fox News on Sunday, saying Moody’s Analytics estimated the American Jobs Plan “would create 19 million jobs.”

“This is a good faith effort. We think that investing about $2 trillion over this period would make a huge difference. You look at just the analysis we’ve seen this week. Moody’s suggests it’ll create 19 million jobs,” Deese said.

Two officials in the White House and the Department of Transportation told CNN that both Deese and Buttigieg were not correct. Moody’s Analytics did not estimate that Biden’s infrastructure proposal would “create” 19 million jobs.

Rather, the financial services company estimated that the U.S. economy would see an additional 19 million jobs between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the fourth quarter of 2030 if the American Jobs Plan passes. Yet the package itself adds 2.7 million jobs.

The US government, which is persecuting Christians in America for opposing the ruling class' fringe LGBT ideology, is putting out atrocity propaganda through Radio Free Asia citing anonymous sources to claim China is "torturing" Christians to get them to renounce their faith.

The Chinese Communist Party is reportedly detaining Christians in secret facilities and forcing them to renounce their faith or face being tortured for months.

"A member of a Christian 'house church' in the southwestern province of Sichuan who asked to be identified by a pseudonym Li Yuese said he was held in a facility run by the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s United Front Work Department, working in tandem with the state security police, for 10 months after a raid on his church in 2018," Radio Free Asia reported. "Another Christian who asked to remain anonymous told RFA that similar facilities are being used across China, not just for Protestants, but also for members of the underground Catholic church, and of the banned Falun Gong spiritual movement, a target of authorities since 1999."

Radio Free Asia is a non-profit broadcasting corporation funded through the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an independent federal government agency.

The communists reportedly focus mostly on targeting "house churches" that are not members of the CCP-backed Three-Self Patriotic Association, which teaches people a CCP-approved version of Christianity because it views Christianity as a national security threat.

"It was a mobile facility, that could just set up in some basement somewhere. It was staffed by people from several different government departments," Li said. "It had its own (CCP) political and legal affairs committee working group, and they mainly target Christians who are members of house churches."

"They use really underhand[ed] methods," Li continued. "They threaten, insult and intimidate you. These were United Front officials, men, women, sometimes unidentified, usually in plain clothes. The police turn a blind eye to this. You have to accept the statement they prepare for you. If you refuse, you will be seen as having a bad attitude and they will keep you in detention and keep on beating you."

Li said that the basement that he was kept in was in a secret location where he could not see outside and lost all concept of time. He also said that he tried to hurt himself and thought of suicide often because he said that it would have been better than what he was subjected to.

"I couldn't sleep; after you've been in there a week, death starts to look better than staying there. I bashed myself against the wall to self-harm," he said. "One time in there, I was groggy and was trying to open my eyes but I couldn't. Four or five of them grabbed me by the arms and legs and pinned me to the ground. They they injected me with some drug, and brought me back to consciousness."

Chinese Central Bank Rolls Out Digital Yuan in a First for a Major Economy

The project of a national digital currency has been in the works in China since 2014, with the People’s Bank of China leading the project.

China is gradually rolling out its digital currency to replace banknotes and coins in the future.

China has been conducting tests with digital currency for some time now. In 2020, trials with some services, such as food delivery and rideshare apps, were conducted in Shenzhen and several other cities and were considered to be successful.

China has also already given away millions of dollars worth of the digital Yuan as part of the real-world trials of the currency, including some amount handed out by the local government in some cities via lottery.

According to a plan released in August by the Ministry of Commerce, there are plans to expand testing of the digital yuan in several regions, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, over the next few years.

China’s payments arena is already digitalised, with Alipay and WeChat Pay systems at the top. In contrast to those payment systems which are owned by private companies, the digital Yuan should increase efficiency, being an actual currency run by the Central bank.

It is still unclear what technological platform the Chinese digital currency is running, with users usually having to download a separate app to receive digital Yuan.

As opposed to the world’s most popular de-centralized blockchain-based cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, which in proper applications offers users anonymity, the digital Yuan will be controlled by the People’s Bank of China.

The central bank, however, announced that its variation of cryptocurrency will allow anonymous transactions in small amounts.

In an article in Yicai Global, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China Fan Yifei said that keeping a degree of anonymity “within a controllable range” could help with financial security. The payments would be anonymous to some degree, but data analysis tools could help the central bank to crack down on money laundering and other criminal offences. Also, the country’s telecoms operators will not be able to disclose the phone numbers and personal data of users to any third parties and the information would also be encrypted prior to being passed.

The Arkansas House voted to override the veto by a margin of 71-24, defeating Hutchinson’s attempt to block the bill.

Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson announced Monday that he has sided with far-left activists and chosen to veto HB 1570, which would ban the use of puberty blockers, hormone replacement procedures, and gender transition surgery on young children.

“I was told this week that the nation is looking at Arkansas because I have on my desk another bill passed by the general assembly that is a product of the cultural war,” Hutchinson said during a press conference. “I don’t shy away from the battle when it is necessary and defensible, but the most recent action of the general assembly, while well-intended, is off course and I must veto House Bill 1570.”

Arkansas has been the subject of an intense social media campaign by transgender activists to pressure Hutchinson into vetoing the bill.

Trafficking and Child Exploitation Unit makes first arrests

Gwinnett County, Georgia (Gwinnett Daily Post) — A new unit formed within the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office to tackle human trafficking and child exploitation has made its first two arrests.

The Trafficking and Child Exploitation, or TRACE, Unit — which Sheriff Keybo Taylor established when he took office in January — arrested Lawrenceville resident Junior Demas, 31, and Grayson resident Marcus Gamble, 30, last week.

Gamble was arrested Wednesday while Demas was arrested Thursday.

“TRACE was formed Jan. 1, by Sheriff Keybo Taylor to protect citizens, especially children, from violent criminal offenders and criminal organizations,” Sheriffs Office spokeswoman, Deputy Ashley Castiblanco said. “TRACE has assisted many other agencies in the last four months since its initiation, including assisting in the 2021 Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., with a Human Trafficking operations. These arrests are our first two within our own community.”

The TRACE unit was one of two new initiatives — the other being an anti-gang effort — Taylor announced when he took office to replace the Sheriff’s Office Rapid Response Team and its involvement in the controversial 287(g) immigration hold program.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release details of the crimes committed by Demas and Gamble, but it did release the charges both men face.

Demas has been charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation; seduce, solicit, lure, or entice child to commit illegal act; and obscene internet contact with a child.

Meanwhile, Gamble has been charged with obscene internet contact with a child and two counts of possessing or control any material depicting a minor in sexually explicit.

Demas and Gamble are being held in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.

Ugandan police has rescued 29 Burundian girls and arrested five suspects involved in a human-trafficking racket in the east African country, a police spokesperson said here on Tuesday.

Charles Twiine, police spokesperson for criminal investigations directorate, told Xinhua by telephone that the Burundian girls were rescued while in transit to other countries for sex trade.

"We have rescued them (girls) and we have them here. I can't know whether they came from Bujumbura, Ruhengeri or whatever part of Burundi," said Twiine.

"Uganda is a transit route. We are trying to see how we can work on mechanisms of taking them back," he said.

The police spokesperson said the suspects will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of human trafficking.

‘What happened next?’ CIA roasted after bragging about arming Afghan Mujahideen, aka the Taliban

The fact that the CIA armed the same Afghan militants who now kill US troops is not a conspiracy theory, and the agency was roasted after it took to Twitter to boast about its covert 1980s arms shipments to jihadists.

In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the CIA proudly displayed a shoulder-fired FIM-92 Stinger missile launcher. The launcher, the post read, “supplied by the United States gave Afghan guerrillas, generally known as the Mujahideen, the ability to destroy the dreaded Mi-24D helicopter gunships deployed by the Soviets to enforce their control over Afghanistan.”

Operation Cyclone was one of the CIA’s longest and most expensive covert operations, and saw the agency covertly funnel arms and money to Afghan Mujahideen fighters, who in the early 1980s were waging a guerilla campaign against invading Soviet forces. The program continued through the administrations of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, as the US insisted the Mujahideen were “freedom fighters.”

These “freedom fighters,” who counted Osama Bin Laden as an ally, would eventually morph into the Taliban, a group the US has now been fighting against in Afghanistan for nearly two decades. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton admitted in 2010 that “the people we are fighting today, we funded 20 years ago,” adding that arming jihadists sounded “like a good idea” at the time.

Of course, the CIA opted not to include this information in their self-congratulatory tweet. Instead, commenters pointed it out for them, mocking the agency along the way. “This is why you should believe nearly everything the CIA is accused of around the world,” one wrote. “Because 20 years later they'll just admit to it.”

Operation Cyclone wrapped up in 1989, although money was still flowing to the Mujahideen throughout the 1989-1992 Afghan Civil War, which led straight into another brutal inter-jihadist conflict that only ended with a Taliban victory in 1996. One wonders whether the US’ current meddling will one day be commemorated on Twitter. Perhaps the Department of Defense will one day post a picture of a TOW missile used by Al-Nusra jihadists to take on Syrian Army tanks. Maybe former State Department number two Victoria Nuland will one day look back fondly on the time she helped engineer a coup in Ukraine.

However, they might just take a look at how the CIA’s tweet went down and decide to keep quiet.
