Canada's Globe and Mail has anew editor-in-chief - David Walmsley.He takes the job next week, having been recruited fromCBC News, where he was director of news.He succeeds John Stackhouse, who had been in the chair since 2009.
Walmsley, 43, who hasdual Canadian and British citizenship,began his journalistic career in Belfast and later worked for the Daily Mail and Daily Telegraph.
He moved to Canada in 1998 when the then Telegraph owner,Conrad Black,launched the National Post.
"David is joining the Globe and Mail at a pivotal time for our industry, as consumer needs continually change and the role of journalism needs to adapt," said Phillip Crawley,The Globe's British-born publisher.
A Globe source, quoted by The Province, described Walmsley as having "a bit of the oldBritish, Fleet Street,go-for-the-jugular kind of instinct" when it comes to news.
