Yes, noting the recent huge deal in Cairo concerning the relocating of mummies, I stumbled on an odd bit of true history ~ That there was tubes of oil paint which actually used mummified people and cats in the pigment. It was extremely popular and many of the PreRaphaelites used it, but in general there was quite an Egyptian craze going on back then. The more common "Mummy Brown" (aka Egyptian Brown or Caput Mortum, Latin for "Dead Man's Head") was a decent color but in time would crack or bleed into other colors so the works would lose intensity… that and, they were running out of mummies. It seems demands had even been met using the corpses of the recently demised slaves or criminals. The Mummy brown actually ranged from a yellowish color to even a very reddish/purple color called Cardinal Purple ( note: Purple in generals was regarded as a color only the royals in some areas were allowed to use, but Purpura snail shell was the sought after purple typically).
