The property taxes is how they keep people as debt slaves. Even if a home is paid off, the taxes must still be paid or home can be confiscated. Where I live, I pay $500 per mo. in property tax on a modest 3 bedroom ranch house.
They can take the house, valued at about $200,0000 if taxes aren't paid.

And most of the property tax goes to the public school system for them to squander.
