and so it became popular to substitute lol for kek
in online conversations with fellow anons and gamers
and little did we know that Kek was an actual Egyptian deity
and that deity had a specific role in their belief system:
"As a god of the night, Kek was also related to the day - he was called the "bringer-in of the light". This seems to mean that he was responsible for the time of night that came just before sunrise."
