Biden DOJ Pick Reportedly Organized Controversial Conference 'Championing Cop Killers'

Kristen Clarke has been chosen by the Biden administration to head the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Civil Rights Division as assistant attorney general in January, along with Merrick Garland who was nominated for the post of the US Attorney General at the time.

Biden's DOJ nominee, Kristen Clarke, is claimed by the American Accountability Foundation (AAF) to have organised a 1999 university conference that gathered supporters of the idea of releasing people convicted for killing police officers and other death-row criminals, Fox News reported on Friday, citing the free-market group.

Clarke was allegedly one of the organizers behind the Race-ing Justice Conference during her studies at Columbia Law School in April 1999.

The AAF said it obtained a transcript of the conference, which allegedly shows that Clarke was the organizer.

"Let me begin by acknowledging the work of Manny Marable and Kristen Clarke who drew us all together," said conference speaker and author, Ashe Bandele, during the conference, according to the reported transcript.

According to the report, the conference was a gathering of "left-leaning students and anti-government activists" who stood for freeing death row inmates they believed were "political prisoners".

Among such inmates are convicted cop-killers Mumia Abu-Jamal, Mutulu Shakur, Sundiata Acoli and Assata Shakur - the latter, particularly, has been on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists list since 2013, the first woman to appear. Alongside Acoli, Shakur was convicted for murdering a New Jersey state trooper in 1973.

The participants of the conference, repeatedly described the above-mentioned criminals as "political prisoners". Among the speakers were City College of New York professor Herb Boyd and founder of the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition, Safiya Bukhari.

"I think we need to extend that definition [of political prisoners] to include, you know, a number of particularly Puerto Rican, African American political prisoners that we have — most particularly Sundiata Acoli, they talk about Sekou Odinga, we have the situation where Susan Rosenberg and you know Sylvia [Blyden], of course [Mumia Abu-Jamal] and hopefully many of you will be on your way to Philadelphia tomorrow to participate in that situation," Boyd is reported to have said during the conference.

Bukhari, according to the report, described herself as a "prisoner of war" and downplayed the events of the Holocaust, saying it "was only 6 million Jews killed in the camps and prisons of Germany and Poland."

Ashe Bandele, another conference speaker who allegedly referred to Clarke as an organiser, compared the prisoners with late South African President Nelson Mandela.

"And I'm trying to figure out how we get to do that with our own Mandelas right here, [Sundiata Acoli, and Sekou Odinga, Mutulu Shakur]," said Bandele, according to the transcript.

Russian-Ukrainian War: Tragedy For People, Chance For Elites

Against the backdrop of ongoing political provocations and bellicose rhetoric from all parties involved in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, military escalation is constantly growing. Local forces, as well as the OSCE observers, report about more and more ceasefire violations in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. There are daily statements on casualties on both sides of the conflict among the military and local civilians.

Now, when all the global media are closely following the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine, the international community is wondering whether Donbass will become the point of the next military conflict, and what its scale will be. The main question is “Cui Prodest”?

The answer is unambiguous: the administration of Ukrainian President is a real stakeholder in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. In the current Ukrainian reality, there are plenty of circumstances that determine the pattern of conduct of Volodimir Zelensky.

First, the current economic situation in Ukraine is disastrous. The Ukrainian state is on the way to lose the ability to fulfill its social obligations. According to the data for 2020, its GDP in real terms suffered about 4% drop. According to the IMF, this drop will be at least 7%. If for the United States, China or Russia, a 4% drop in GDP is a big problem, for Ukraine it is almost a disaster, as GDP indicators were low even before the crisis.

Secondly, the economic situation in Ukraine was aggravated by the coronacrisis. The number of those contaminated by COVID-19 per day there is one of the biggest among the European countries, and even in the whole world. The death rate is also disproportionately high. The country’s economy is suffering, as most regions are still under lockdown, and since April 5, restrictions have been tightened again.

The fall in national budget income was caused by a complex of reasons, including pure management of national economy and the extremely high level of corruption that caused the destruction of the industrial complex, drop in already low per capita income, accompanied by a decreasing revenue gained from gas and cargo transit from East to West.

Third, the Zelensky administration is now facing a rapid decrease in people’s support. The national disappointment in his political program is caused by the rejection of his campaign promises to stop the war in Donbass.

Fourthly, it is increasingly difficult for NATO allies to fuel Kiev’s anti-Russian hysteria in the absence of any actual changes of the issue. The military conflict in the Eastern Ukraine is already 7 years old, and the only alarming statements no longer contribute to the increase in financial support from the US and its allies.

The last but not least is a political request from a part of the American elite, who are interested in various forms of pressuring Russia. They support blocking of the Nord Stream 2 project by any means; destruction of bilateral relations between Russia and leading European countries, up to war outbreak along its borders.

On the other hand, such a policy of the United States does not fully coincide with the national interests of leading European countries. However, new war in Eastern Ukraine would define Russian status as enemy for years while the US will strengthen its weight in European security.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s family launches website defending her: ‘My sister is no monster’

The family of Ghislaine Maxwell launched a website Friday that proclaims her “innocence” and tries to present “a more balanced viewpoint” of the accused madam, insisting she is “no monster.”

Realghislaine.com is filled with flattering photographs of Maxwell, and offers links to select news stories detailing her legal battle; it also promises her family will post updates on her case.

“We believe wholeheartedly in our beloved sister’s innocence and encourage visitors to this site to sign up for updates,” reads an excerpt on the homepage of the site, which is maintained by Maxwell’s siblings, family and friends.

“It is planned for other material to be added and readers can form a more balanced viewpoint.”

Included on the site is a video message from Maxwell’s brother, Ian, who decries the alleged poor conditions his sister faces at the Metropolitan Detention Center.

She will appeal her recently rejected third bail application, he vows.

“I and my brothers and sisters love her very much. We believe in her innocence and that she’ll be exonerated in the end, which is why it’s so hard for us to see her held in an American prison in solitary confinement without bail for over 260 days and counting,” the brother says in the video.

Ian claims Maxwell is losing sleep due to nightly interruptions from guards, who he says shine lights in her eyes for 15 minutes at a time.

White House considering cash payments to Central Americans to stem migration

It’s pay to stay away.

The Biden administration is considering sending cash payments to Central Americans in a bid to prevent them from making the trek north as the US grapples with the worst immigration crisis seen in 20 years, Reuters reported Friday.

The potential cash transfer program would be targeted at residents of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, which account for the overwhelming majority of migrants illegally crossing the border, Roberta Jacobson, the White House’s southern border coordinator, told the outlet.

“We’re looking at all of the productive options to address both the economic reasons people may be migrating, as well as the protection and security reasons,” Jacobson told the outlet in an interview.

In March, nearly 170,000 migrants were picked up by US Border Patrol agents at the southern border, a 70 percent increase from February and the highest monthly total seen since March 2001, data show.

Numbers have steadily increased since the start of the year and are attributed to a host of factors. They include the pandemic, natural disasters in those regions and a more welcoming attitude from President Biden, who rolled back a series of strict immigration policies set in place by his predecessor.

Local law enforcement units and public officials along the border have criticized Biden for not doing enough to stem or prepare for the surge, which has left thousands of unaccompanied children languishing in federal custody at the reported cost of $60 million a week.

The White House hopes the cash payments will address economic issues Central Americans face so they won’t feel the need to migrate, the outlet said citing a senior White House official who is unnamed.

Jacobson, who announced Friday she is stepping down, couldn’t explain to Reuters how the program would work but did say she can “promise” “the U.S. government isn’t going to be handing out money or checks to people.”

The administration is also mulling a plan to send COVID-19 vaccines to Central American countries, which have had extremely slow vaccine rollouts. In Honduras and Guatemala, less than one-percent of the population has been vaccinated and in El Salvador, only 2.5 percent have gotten the jab. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/world/covid-vaccinations-tracker.html

Jacobson said the administration hasn’t come to a decision on whether to prioritize sending vaccines to Northern Triangle countries but said Biden will consider how the inoculations could help those locales’ struggling economies.

Seems more like Biden is planning to fund their trip to the border.
