Korea, Hollywood related. Heavy irony to follow…
In 2012, the song Gangnam Style by Korean pop singer PSY was a big international hit, which became a hit because of his viral music video. Did anyone outside of Korea know what the song was about? Of course not, it's sung in Korean. Turns out the song is about an affluent neighborhood of Seoul South Korea. More specifically, the song and video is a social commentary on the excesses of the rich elites through parody.
2012's American Music Awards show was held in Los Angeles, in a hall that was packed with the very sort of people PSY was, in fact, singing about in his song! Even more ironic is that many of them grooving along to the live performance were the very people who claim the moral high ground on knowing just who and what segment of society to skewer through their political beliefs and artistic statements in music, film and media. Watching this video makes for great entertainment on so many levels.
