Do we know what $ amounts EU, Russia, et al. were paying? Because if (and I imagine this to be the case) we were paying the most or even almost all of it they're either going to have to pony up substantially or back down completely. Who thinks that paying protection money to the mob or to a blackmailer was a good long term solution? Seems to me the best solution has always been to 1) tell the authorities (in this case US military/intelligence 2) take the mob/blackmailer down.
And does anybody know what, exactly, we were supposed to get for that money?
If that's the case why are the EU so involved and interested about the deal?
Why do they (EU etc) want the deal? What is in it for them?
