Married biology teacher jailed after ‘filming sex’ with teen student

A 42-year-old married woman has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars for sexually abusing a teen student and recording the explicit acts.

A disgraced US teacher has been put behind bars after she reportedly filmed sex with a teenage student and bought him gift cards to stop him divulging the abuse he suffered at her hands.

Amber Turnage, of Jackson, Mississippi, has been given a 15-year sentence after being found guilty of sexually preying on a 17-year-old pupil.

The 42-year-old, who taught biology at Provine High School, was caught out when the dad of the victim found explicit videos of his son in a sexual act with Turnage.

Mississippi authorities launched an investigation in 2017 and questioned the student, who said he had met Turnage after school one day and that they developed a relationship, reports Knewz.

The victim claimed that Turnage gave him gift cards and money, and that they would go to different hotels in the area.

Abuse also occurred at his family home, his cousin’s home and in her car, Knewz reports.

Funeral aid program allows death certificates to be altered for those who 'may have' died of COVID

Death certificates may be retroactively altered to attribute death to COVID to qualify applicants for reimbursement by FEMA. "If your loved one's death certificate doesn't have COVID listed, you can have it put in," said N.Y. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

Relatives of individuals who died in the "early days" of the coronavirus pandemic will be able to seek amended death certificates that show COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death in order to receive reimbursement for funeral costs under a new FEMA program, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"Your loved one should have COVID on their death certificate, anywhere listed either as their primary or contributing cause of death," said Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, on Monday during a news conference with Schumer. "In those early days, we know that so many people didn't know what was COVID and what wasn't.

"You can go back to the institution that issued the death certificate, the hospital, the physician, etcetera, and you can have your death certificate edited in retrospect knowing what we know now about COVID. So if your loved one's death certificate doesn't have COVID listed, you can have it put in."

Schumer, a New York Democrat, said that "since September, they've been listing COVID, the problem is, as the congresswoman said, in the early days, they didn't even know what COVID was so they didn't list it, and we're working to get that corrected."

Ocasio-Cortez added that the lawmakers "are in conversations with FEMA to see what added flexibility" can be implemented around amending death certificates.

According to the current program rules on the FEMA website: "[T]he death certificate must indicate the death 'may have been caused by' or 'was likely the result of' COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Similar phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are considered sufficient attribution."

The reimbursed amount maxes out at $9,000 per deceased individual and $35,500 per application.

FEMA's rules for the program specify that the death "must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia; the death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19 and the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or a qualified non-citizen who incurred funeral expenses after Jan. 20, 2020."

The deceased individual, however, does not need to be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified non-citizen.

"This is one of the first programs … that will allow mixed status and undocumented families to get some semblance of relief after feeding this country, after cleaning our schools, after serving and holding up this community," said Ocasio-Cortez. "This community got nothing in relief, very little. I am so proud of the tireless work and pushing that it took to make sure that up to $9,000 of relief will now be available to almost every family in this country."

FEMA outlined the eligible expenses the federal government will reimburse for on their official website for the program.

The funeral reimbursement program was part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that the Democrat-led Congress passed last month.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Hangs ’Florida Uses E-Verify’ Signs on All Highways into Sunshine State

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has hung signs on all the major interstate highways entering Florida informing everyone traveling by road into the state that the Sunshine State has implemented E-Verify, a background check system for employers to see if prospective hires are in fact legally authorized to work in the United States.

The signs, DeSantis’s office told Breitbart News, are now visible on all three main interstate gateways into Florida along I-10, I-95, and I-75. The signs come after Florida’s legislature last year passed E-Verify measures which DeSantis signed into law last summer.

“I want all residents and visitors to receive this message: Florida Uses E-Verify,” DeSantis told Breitbart News exclusively. “For years prior to my administration, attempts to pass E-Verify legislation in Florida failed, but I would not yield until this matter was addressed. Last year, I was able to deliver on working with the Florida Legislature to get E-Verify over the finish line and signed SB 664 into law. Requiring use of an employment verification system not only places upward pressure [on] Floridians’ wages, it also protects the public safety. Assuring a legal workforce through E-Verify is crucial to upholding the rule of law and deters illegal immigration into Florida, which is more important than ever given the border crisis.”

DeSantis, whose popularity has been surging due to his handling of the coronavirus pandemic much more effectively than many Democrat governors in the northeast, with no mandates or restrictions, also noted that President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration has “been abysmal” and hurts all states, including Florida.

“The Biden Administration has been abysmal on immigration and their policies threaten to turn all states, including Florida, into border states,” DeSantis said. “Under this administration, it’s very clear we must enforce our laws and protect our residents.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) makes E-Verify available to every U.S. state and territory, but not all states require it or use it. Technically, from a federal perspective, E-Verify is currently voluntary, according to the program’s website.

E-Verify’s DHS government website says:

E-Verify is a web-based system that allows enrolled employers to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States. E-Verify employers verify the identity and employment eligibility of newly hired employees by electronically matching information provided by employees on the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, against records available to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). E-Verify is a voluntary program. However, employers with federal contracts or subcontracts that contain the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) E-Verify clause are required to enroll in E-Verify as a condition of federal contracting. Employers may also be required to participate in E-Verify if their states have legislation mandating the use of E-Verify, such as a condition of business licensing.

Georgia ethics probe of Stacey Abrams-founded group ongoing, official confirms

New Georgia Project appealed ruling ordering it to turn over records that may show "illegal campaign activities."

A Georgia ethics commission is continuing its probe of "potential illegal campaign activities" by a voter mobilization group formerly run by Stacey Abrams, Democratic gubernatorial nominee in 2018, an official told Just the News.

The New Georgia Project appealed a Gwinnett County Superior Court ruling that ordered the group to "comply with previously issued subpoenas" from the Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission, Executive Director David Emadi wrote in an email.

Just the News sought an update from the commission on the status of its investigation following a January ruling that the New Georgia Project had to turn over bank records. The commission accused the voter group of advocating for Abrams' election in 2018 against Republican Gov. Brian Kemp "without registering as a campaign committee or filing disclosures showing how much it raised or spent," according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"The case remains in appeal at this time pending its next hearing on the matter," Emadi wrote. He said he couldn't share any results of "any investigation thus far" because litigation is continuing.

Neither the commission nor New Georgia Project responded to queries asking for the latter's appeals filing.

Judge Warren Davis had cited evidence from the commission that the New Georgia Project and its sibling Action Fund solicited contributions and made expenditures to promote Abrams, among other candidates. Expenditures included "canvassing activities, literature expressly advocating for the election of candidates, and operating field offices where these electioneering activities were coordinated."

Nse Ufot, CEO of the voter group, called the investigation "another continuation of a baseless partisan attack on a grassroots organization" following the ruling. The New Georgia Project noted that Emadi donated $600 to Kemp in 2018, and the Democrat and Republican are likely to face off again in 2022's gubernatorial election.

"There is nothing ethical about this partisan inquiry, and they should be ashamed," Ufot said.

Last month, the Georgia Court of Appeals ruled that a different judge had the authority to decide whether to enforce the commission's subpoenas against the Abrams campaign and New Georgia Project for alleged illegal coordination.

The parties sparred at a hearing last year. The voter group said it had already turned over 4,000 documents "showing checks, wire transfers, bank records and campaign transactions" and accused the commission of going fishing for personal emails and other unrelated documents, the Journal-Constitution reported.

The New Georgia Project and its action fund did not report in spending disclosures that it hired canvassers, sought donations and sent mass emails supporting Abrams, a state lawyer argued.

The Abrams campaign retorted that those activities and emails didn't show "direct communications" suggesting illegal coordination, and that the commission needs to show "reasonable grounds to believe" campaign finance laws were violated in order to go beyond its preliminary investigation.

2 former soldiers charged in gruesome killing of another soldier at Georgia Army base

SAVANNAH, GA — Two former soldiers have been indicted in U.S. District Court alleging a murder conspiracy after another soldier was found dead in his barracks room in June 2020.

In a newly unsealed federal indictment, Byron Booker, 28, of Ludowici, Ga., and Jordan Brown, 21, of St. Marys, Ga., are charged in the death of Specialist Austin J. Hawke, 24, at Fort Stewart Military Reservation, said David H. Estes, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

“It is a high priority for our office to pursue justice for members of the military who are victims of violent crime,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Estes. “We commend the FBI and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Command and other law enforcement partners for their tireless and detailed work on this case.”

The 21-page indictment alleges that Booker and Brown conspired to commit the offenses against Hawk in retaliation for Hawk reporting Booker to U.S. Army leadership for “poor leadership, poor military performance, and maltreatment of subordinates” prior to Booker’s discharge from the U.S. Army, and in retaliation for Hawk reporting Brown for drug use during his service.

The indictment further alleges that Booker and Brown discussed “silencing” Hawk, and discussed Brown providing Booker with a key to access Hawk’s room. The indictment alleges that Booker drove from his home on or about June 17, 2020, to Fort Stewart, and entered the installation on foot before walking approximately one mile to Hawk’s barracks. The indictment then alleges that Booker killed Hawk by “stabbing, cutting, and slashing” him with an edged weapon, and that afterward Booker disposed of the clothing and shoes he was wearing at the time.
