Think it may be a shortage of officers. Who wants to do it, and if you're in already and have a good rep, why stay in the places looking to de-fund? First stage out of Dodge in the direction of greener pastures. Leaves critical areas undermanned. This guy may be too radioactive for any other dept. to take on right now, don't need press bullshit if they hire him, so his old dept. is his best option.
Saw above Wright warrant was involved with arms, and heard somewhere else that outstanding warrant involved illegal weapons, also.
Let's say Potter and colleague saw weapons when they ran his record. That changes aspect of force used on arrest. If the threat of a weapon in the car was present, then a drawn pistol may have been reasonable. Not sure.
Heard that deceased and car were left in place for a while. 5 hours maybe? If true and weapons were in the car, whole different ball game as well.
So Potter resigns, and she and husband move somewhere else. Basically had solid records, from what I've heard. Life where she is now is over, anyway, so, best option at this point, IMO.
PD doesn't have to deal with how she's handled, and she doesn't have to officially respond to reporters as I private citizen, I wouldn't think.
