Flashcube Building deal may move it into the GSA picture

The Executive Plaza Office Building has stood vacant at 720 Main St. since 2006, when its owner, Commerce Bank, moved an operations center out of it.
But the gleaming nine-story building may not remain empty for much longer.
Dave Christie, principal of Christie Development Associates LLC in Overland Park, confirmed Wednesday that he has the building under contract.
Greg Swetnam of Kessinger/Hunter & Co. LC has the 207,421-square-foot building listed for $3.5 million, or $16.87 a square foot — a price that attests to the softness of Downtown's office resale market. In 2006, the building was listed at $10.5 million, or $50.62 a square foot.
Christie said he hoped to close by year's end on the property, frequently called the Flashcube Building. It earned that moniker because of its shape and reflective exterior, similar to those of the rotating flashbulb cubes that amateur photographers used to plug into the tops of their Instamatics.
Christie declined to discuss his plans for the building other than to say he was “working on a couple of leases” and was buying an acre of adjacent ground to provide parking.'
