In a virtual two-day climate summit hosted by President Joe Biden on Earth Day, world leaders attempted to outdo each other on promises and boasts on tackling climate change. Activist Greta Thunberg warned ahead of the event that world leaders would bring “bullsh*t” to the summit.

As detailed by Sky News, Biden used the two-day climate summit to announce a new target of halving carbon emissions by 2030. Other world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, promised to do so in a “much shorter time span.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin bragged about the greater extent of the actions Russia plans to take in tackling climate change. The United Kingdom’s Boris Johnson promised to do as much as the United States. India’s Narendra Modi bragged that India’s carbon footprint is 60 per cent lower than the global average.

Compared with 2005 levels, the United States has pledged to reduce emissions by upwards of 50 per cent by 2030, US climate envoy John Kerry said. Kerry says the goal previously announced by Biden is a more than reasonable target.

"Will we probably wind up exceeding it? I suspect yes," he said. "I'm generally optimistic because so much is beginning to happen."

Efforts to cut America’s carbon emissions include the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and a reduction of emissions caused by manufacturing and power consumption, which are largely driven by the use of fossil fuels in the U.S. The move towards a carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative U.S. economy will be highly contingent on the adoption of renewable energy sources.

Canada has pledged to follow America’s lead by reducing carbon emissions by 40 to 45 per cent compared to 2005 levels by 2030.

In contrast, the U.K. is measuring its target against 1990 levels, a baseline most commonly used by the United Nations — meaning that the U.K. is expected to reduce its carbon emissions by even greater levels than its North American counterparts. Boris Johnson boasted that emissions in the U.K. will be cut by 78 per cent by 2035.

As noted by Sky News, each representative present attempted to try and one-up each other with boasts on their efforts to “build back better.” Notably, Johnson used phrases like “Saudi Arabia of wind” and “First country to legislate for net-zero.”

What a difference a century makes.

Back in the Roaring Twenties, alcohol was illegal in Ontario during the Prohibition period. Booze was deemed immoral, unhealthy, and a substance that might lead to very bad behaviour if over-consumed. Thus, if one wanted to imbibe, that required going to a “speakeasy” — a secret bar hidden from the prying eyes of law enforcement.

By 1927, Prohibition was over in Ontario, but the provincial government decided that it would be the entity retailing the once-forbidden hooch.

And so it is that the monopoly known as the Liquor Control Board of Ontario came into being, and continues to this day. Not even a global pandemic can force the LCBO to close its stores. Nope. Alcohol has morphed from forbidden fruit to essential remedy.

So how perverse is it that in 2021, it is the gym that is deemed harmful by the government, the bureaucracy and various medical advisors, despite a dearth of data proving this hypothesis? Forget about pumping iron and breaking a sweat on the treadmill to improve one’s health; now we are told by the premier himself to cower in the basement and bake copious quantities of cherry cheesecake to cope. What a solution!

But not everyone is obeying the edicts of Premier Doug “Let them eat cheesecake” Ford. Because some gyms are opening up illegally, daring the government to put them out of business. Meanwhile, other gyms are going underground, pretending to be closed but functioning as 21st century speakeasies.

We found one such gym in west end Toronto recently, and paid a visit to this “illegal” fitness facility that had its windows covered over in kraft paper to keep it hidden from the eyes of various snooping COVID-Karens. And we interviewed the fitness aficionados who were working out there, all of whom were of the opinion that lockdowns — including the gym closures — are doing more harm to society than good.

We agree. And we can’t help but note the perverse irony that in Doug Ford’s Ontario in 2021, liquor stores thrive while gym operators face huge fines for having the temerity to allow their members to improve their physical fitness. The world is surely upside-down…

Has Communist China’s Social Credit System made its way to Canada?

I recently came across an article that sent Orwellian chills down my spine. In it, Sunday Guardian Live reported that China’s Social Credit System — which tracks citizens so that they can be either rewarded, or punished with the potential withholding of basic rights to things like travel, accessing bank funds and obtaining employment — has been adopted by the Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant in Vancouver, B.C.

According to the report, the restaurant has two cameras pointed at each dining table, and when the manager, Ryan Pan, was asked about them, he said they were to “punish” staff that didn’t adhere to corporate standards. Pan also reportedly said that the footage recorded by the cameras gets sent back to China!

After reading this report, I was suddenly hungry for some hot pot, and some answers. Despite indoor dining being currently banned in B.C. due to COVID-19, I was able to get into the restaurant to have a look while awaiting my hot pot take out.

I also spoke with the manager, who was rather friendly, and who claimed that the statements made in the article are false. He claims the cameras are only there for safety purposes, that they were approved by the City of Vancouver, and that no information gets sent back to China from them.

Liberal MP calls Antifa a “far-left extremist” organization during committee meeting

Liberal MP Hedy Fry referenced the violent anarchist collective known internationally as Antifa as an example of a far-left extremist organization during a Foreign Affairs Committee meeting last week.

Fry made the comments in support of an amendment by Conservative MP Michael Chong to a motion on a study into human rights abuses by extremists against minorities, the LGBT community and others.

Chong’s amendment sought to change the wording of the motion from exclusively referencing “right-wing extremists” to simply “extremists,” following the advice of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) in its 2019 public report.

“There’s one part of the motion that I think should be amended, and I move an amendment to the motion that we remove the two words ‘right wing’ so that it would simply read ‘abuses by extremists,’ and so on and so forth,” said Chong.

“The reason I’m proposing that amendment is twofold. First, extremism can come from both the extreme right and the extreme left … More importantly, I think we should follow the advice of CSIS, which has actually eschewed using the terms ‘right-wing extremism’ and ‘left-wing extremism.’”

In response, Fry insisted that she agreed with Chong’s amendment and referred to Antifa as an example of a left-wing extremist organization.

“I actually agree with Mr. Chong’s amendment. I think if you want to do a good job on a study, you want to walk away from being too subjective or using too many adjectives to describe what your ideology is about,” said Fry.

“I think the word ‘extremism’ … When you look at Belarus, Russia, China, Venezuela and at non-governmental organizations like Antifa, etc., we have left-wing extremists and we have right-wing extremists. I have heard the argument CSIS made. It’s a good argument, so let’s take away this florid language and just talk about extremism in whatever form it takes. As a mover of the motion, I’m happy to support Michael’s amendment.”

According to CSIS’ report, “anarchist violence” is cited as an example of ideologically motivated violent extremism alongside ethno-nationalist violence, the incel movement and anti-LGBTQ violence.

As recently reported, anarchist and Antifa groups were involved in anti-authority protests in Montreal which recently erupted in violence and clashes with police.

While Antifa is a decentralized network of anarchists and other far-left sympathizers a network of websites in Canada frequently distributes communications and guides highlighting anarchist violence.

Among this network are platforms such as Contrepoints which describes itself as a “revolutionary” platform. As exclusively reported by True North, the website recently published domestic terror instructions including detailed information on how to sabotage railways and create the highly flammable industrial material thermite.

The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF) released a “Know Your Rights” guide for Ontarians who are confused about the province’s ongoing lockdown rules and stay-at-home order.

“This past weekend in Ontario has left many people uncertain about what powers police have to stop and question them during the stay at home order,” said CCF Litigation Director, Christine Van Geyn.

“We created the ‘Know Your Rights’ guide as a source of legal information for a public that has been provided with conflicting and unclear direction from the government.”

The guide is available for download on the CCF website and answers questions Ontario residents might have like: Can police stop me on the street? Do I need to answer police questions? Can police stop my car? Can police ticket me for being in a park?

“Under the new, amended police power, police can demand information from individuals in certain situations,” the guide reads.

“Police may stop you on the street to ask for ID and ask why you are outside if they ‘have reason to suspect that an individual may be participating in a gathering’ in violation of the stay at home order. Merely being outside of your house is not reason [sic] for police to suspect that you are participating in a gathering,” the guide continues.

“Without a reasonable suspicion, police cannot stop you while you are walking on the street to ask for your ID or purpose for being outside. You can ask police what their grounds are to suspect you are participating in a gathering.”

The guide comes at a time when Ontario Premier Doug Ford is reeling from a massive public backlash against increased police powers he attempted to introduce as a means to combat the province’s COVID-19 crisis.

Immediately after the Ford government announced the powers last Friday, the CCF issued a statement condemning the move as a step towards a “police state.”

“Ontarians are essentially living under a 24 hour curfew and police will now be able to randomly stop people and vehicles and demand an explanation of why people are out living their lives. With these new police powers, Ontario is one step closer to becoming a police state,” said CCF Executive Director Joanna Baron in a statement on April 17.

“Low income and minority communities have borne the brunt of this pandemic in terms of cases and mortality, and they are now more likely to bear the brunt of police enforcement.”

This week, Ford issued an apology for the decision while the premier was in isolation after a member of his staff tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

A full year after the initial roll-out of the utterly horrifying and completely fictional photos of people dropping dead in the streets, the projected 3.4% death rate, and all the rest of the official propaganda, despite the absence of any actual scientific evidence of an apocalyptic plague (and the abundance of evidence to the contrary), millions of people continue to behave like members of an enormous death cult, walking around in public with medical-looking masks, robotically repeating vacuous platitudes, torturing children, the elderly, the disabled, demanding that everyone submit to being injected with dangerous experimental “vaccines,” and just generally acting delusional and psychotic.

‘Request for Investigation’ of the UK Government and its advisers, for genocide, crimes against humanity and breaches of the Nuremberg Code, issued to the International Criminal Court at the Hague, on Tuesday 20th of April 2021.

On Tuesday 20th of April 2021 we, the undersigned, issued a 27 -page ‘Request for Investigation’ to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague, with a view to asking that our allegations of genocide, crimes against humanity and breaches of the Nuremberg Code, by the UK Government and its advisors, be accepted by the ICC and investigated.

We believe that we have provided compelling reasons as to why our Government and its advisers are guilty of the above charges. However, at this stage it is important to note that we are not required to provide all the evidence we have (which would run to several hundred pages) and are limited to a maximum of 30 pages, simply to make an outline case as part of our Request.

The ICC will review our ‘Request for Investigation’ and assess whether they believe there is a reasonable basis to proceed with an investigation into a ‘Situation’, pursuant to the criteria established by the Rome Statute.

The ICC does not provide a timeline regarding acceptance, nor of course is there any guarantee that they will ultimately accept our ‘Request for Investigation’ due to a variety of reasons, including the fact that they are limited in their capacity to conduct investigations.

Dangerous Curves Ahead

Wolf also points out the horrific history of IBM, which developed a sophisticated system of punch cards that allowed Nazi Germany to create a two-tier society and ultimately facilitated the rounding up of Jews for extermination. In Nazi Germany, the obsession with purity — both in terms of hygiene and race theory — drove the genocide of Jews, the old, the handicapped and the mentally challenged.

In present day, the public narrative has eerily followed Nazi Germany’s playbook for genocide, starting with the scapegoating of healthy people, as the rapid spread of COVID-19 was blamed on asymptomatic individuals not properly masking, social distancing and self-isolating.

CDC Investigating Another Woman's Death After J&J Vaccination

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Oregon Health Authority are investigating the death of a woman in her '50s who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19, The Seattle Times reported.

The woman developed a low platelet count within two weeks after receiving the vaccine. The OHA remarked in a statement the woman incurred a "rare but serious blood clot in combination with very low platelets," according to the publication.

OHA senior health adviser Dr. Shimi Sharief said the woman's symptoms were consistent with other cases that include shortness of breath, soreness in the legs, severe headache and abdominal pain.

Health officials did not disclose any further details about the woman regarding when she received the vaccine or where in Oregon she lived. Sharief said she received the vaccine in early April and was subsequently hospitalized.

The news comes right before health officials are set to deliberate among a committee of health experts on Friday if they should extend, modify, or lift the suspension of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Sharief said it would be up to the committee if Oregon decides to resume using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

"We have the utmost confidence that it would be a decision made with thorough investigation and consideration of the potential benefits and risks, in relation to each other, as we go through this pandemic," she said.

The Alberta diner rebels are in court this week, to answer to summons issued to them when they defied the Alberta government’s second lockdown on indoor dining in January.

Chris Scott of the Whistle Stop Cafe in Mirror, Alberta and Carlos Siguenza, owner of the Noble Fox just up the road in Bashaw, each had first appearances in Stettler Provincial Court for breaching public health orders.

The two small town entrepreneurs re-opened their dining rooms to customers after the Alberta government ordered all restaurants and pubs to move to take out service only in December 2020, in response to rising daily coronavirus case counts.

Their act of economic survival was embraced by their communities and inspired dozens of other restaurants to do the same. Doing so created an uncontrollable uprising which caused the government to back down and lift the ban on dining in.

However, before the dining room prohibition was officially lifted by Premier Jason Kenney, Chris and Carlos were repeatedly surveilled by Alberta Health Services inspectors, harassed by local RCMP and ultimately charged for violating the ever-changing public health orders.

Chris and Carlos are being aided in their battle against the entire health bureaucracy and law enforcement by Chad Williamson from Williamson Law in Calgary. Williamson is the top-notch litigation specialist who kept Chris out of jail back in February in his first stare down with the government. He had AHS drop one proceeding against Chris and then had the court order the government to pay some of Chris’s legal costs.

Lawyer pleads at Rob Ford’s grave to “get through” to Ontario premier

An Ontario lawyer posted a video to Twitter showing her kneeling at Rob Ford’s grave, asking him to send his brother, Ontario Premier Doug Ford a “sign” regarding his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the nearly two-minute-long clip tweeted Wednesday, Caryma Sa’d kneeled at the late Toronto mayor’s headstone and lays out what she sees as the Ontario premier’s failings as a leader.

“Hey man,” Sa’d says to the headstone. “You and I don’t know each other. I know of you. Larger than life. And I have been to your mom’s house. In fact, I was at your mom’s house for FordFest a few years ago. I watched your brother come down the stairs to Eye of the Tiger. And I didn’t know then what was to come.”

Sa’d says in her soliloquy that Ontario’s COVID-19 fatalities have been “totally preventable” and takes aim at the expanded police powers the province announced on Friday (which were reversed the day following due to backlash from the public and police agencies).

She also laments that there’s been no talk of sick days from the province, despite Doug Ford being in self-isolation after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

Sa’d said in her video that COVID’s death toll justifies her politicization of Ford’s grave.

“There are people who will criticize me for being here, saying that death is sacred. But how sacred is it really in a province that has seen 7,700 people die from COVID-19, in ways that were totally preventable,” says Sa’d before discussing Ford’s latest emergency measures.

“Anyway, I don’t know if you’re still in communication with him and I don’t know how much you would care, to be honest. But send him a sign because the situation is not tenable.”

True North reached out to both Sa’d and Doug Ford’s office but did not receive a response by the time this article was published.

At the end of the video, Sa’d lays a “Ford Nation” t-shirt at the headstone as the camera focuses on the headstone’s inscription.

Rob Ford is buried at Etobicoke’s Riverside Cemetery. He died in 2016 after a battle with cancer.

Ontario announces vaccine appointments available to “pregnant individuals”

The Ontario government announced on Friday that pregnant women were now considered to be a high-risk population for COVID-19 infection and could now register for vaccination appointments.

“As of April 23, all pregnant individuals can register for #COVID19 vaccination appointments under the “highest risk” health conditions in Phase Two of the province’s vaccine rollout,” tweeted Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Friday.

The decision comes as the Ontario government changes the way it classified pregnant women in its vaccine priority list. Prior to the announcement, pregnant women were considered to be “at risk,” however, under the new changes pregnant women are now considered to be in the “highest risk” category.

According to the online booking system, women can make an appointment for a vaccine without a doctor’s note and can expect to receive their second dose of the vaccine within 16 weeks.

The Ontario government made the decision in response to findings that indicate pregnant women could be much more susceptible to the new COVID-19 variants detected in the province. According to Ottawa-area obstetrician and epidemiologist Dr Mark Walker, the new variants are anywhere from 30% to 50% more virulent and as a result ICU units in hospitals like Toronto’s Mount Sinai have seen a significant increase in admissions of pregnant women.

Instead of simply referring to pregnant women, the announcement opted for the politically correct term “pregnant individuals.”

This is not the first instance where public health rulings referred to pregnant women as “people” or “individuals.”

In January, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam published a tweet advising “pregnant people” to get their flu shots.

“Pregnant people and children under 5 are at higher risk of complications from the #flu. Keep everyone safe. Get the #flushot. Check for vaccine availability near you,” Dr. Tam tweeted.

In another instance, British Columbia’s Centre for Disease Control (BC CDC) published a guide on “inclusive” language-use surrounding the COVID-19 virus which advised against using terms like “men and women” because they are not gender inclusive enough.

“The phrase ‘men and women’ excludes non-binary people, and it is unclear whether it includes trans men and women. And ‘guys” is not gender inclusive – people, everyone, folks, or folx are gender-neutral and thereby inclusive,” wrote the BC CDC.

The guide also advises Canadians to avoid referring to people’s penises and vaginas and instead use the terms “internal genital” and “external genitals.”

Lockdowns will only end if 75% get vaccinated: Public Health Agency

According to new modelling the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) put out on Friday, at least 75% of adults need to have their first vaccine dose before public health restrictions can be lifted in the summer.

If as few as 55% of adults are vaccinated, PHAC predicts Canada could still be in lockdown with another wave of cases beginning in the fall.

As of Friday, almost 11.4 million vaccine doses have been administered to Canadians. Around 21.8% of Canadians are still waiting to receive their second dose as the country’s vaccine rollout remains sluggish.

Only 2.37% of Canadians have received two doses of a vaccine and are considered fully vaccinated.

“Trends have been discouraging in recent weeks, but there is a spark of hope,” Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said.

“The bottom line is that we need as many people vaccinated. As much as possible.”

Even if more Canadians get vaccinated in the coming months, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently said that high vaccination rates will not necessarily mean lockdowns will end in Canada.

“I think it’s important to remember that vaccination alone, even being well advanced in vaccinations, doesn’t necessarily lead to an ability to ease public restrictions,” Trudeau said on April 13.

Due to the government’s failure to procure vaccines, Canada is far behind many countries. The United States and much of Europe maintains vaccination rates much higher than Canada’s.

With high vaccinations rates, several American states and countries like Israel have chosen to reopen their economies.

On April 20 (a.k.a., “Weed Day” — and we’re not talking dandelions here), we dropped by Growers World Superstore in west end Toronto to observe a heapin’ helping of social disobedience taking place.

Indeed, a few dozen customers were in the store (violating the gathering restriction). And they were maskless (violating the face diaper mandate). And they were smoking copious quantities of wacky tobaccy (violating the Smoke-Free Ontario Act). And while the pungent aroma of marijuana was wafting in the air, so too was the scent of freedom and rebellion.

After all, Growers World owner Tom Henry was not going to bend the knee to that lockdown square at City Hall, John Tory, who wants virtually all Hogtown businesses to remain closed — or else.

(Or else what? Just ask Adam Skelly about that…)

Besides, being a Mary Jane merchant for so many years, Tom knows what it’s like to fight for your right to party — and to fight for your right to make a living, for that matter. Thankfully, there were no visits from members of bylaw or law enforcement on this 4/20 Day, and a good time was had by all.

“Physical distancing circles” return to Toronto’s Trinity Bellwoods Park

Trinity Bellwoods Park will once again be covered in paint circles to encourage visitors to remain socially distanced.

The City of Toronto says the “physical distancing circles” will be painted onto the grass of the popular park next week to give people the opportunity to be outside.

“While there is currently a province-wide stay-at-home order in effect, the city recognizes that many residents living in apartment buildings and condominiums who do not have yards need spaces to get exercise and fresh air in city parks,” the city said in a statement.

“Trinity Bellwoods Park is a popular location for many downtown residents and the painted physical distancing circles will help keep people safe while using the park.”

With Ontario under a stay-at-home order, residents are discouraged from going outside for recreational purposes. The order allows for members of the same household to gather outside.

Physically distancing circles were used at Trinity Bellwoods last year when the park was overrun with Torontonians eager to get a break from the previous stay-at-home order.

Previous studies have indicated that it is extremely rare to contract coronavirus while outside. While authorities asked anyone who visited Trinity Bellwoods last May to monitor themselves for symptoms, it is unclear if any cases were traced back to the park.

Last May, Toronto Mayor John Tory was photographed in Trinity Bellwoods while not social distancing and wearing a mask incorrectly. Ironically, Tory claimed he visited the park to judge if residents were following public health orders.

The City of Toronto asks residents to check out other city parks instead to avoid overcrowding Trinity Bellwoods.

“If a park or amenity such as a playground is crowded, people should visit another park or return at another time,” the city said.

Canada is not ready for the shut down of Line 5

It looks like the worst energy crisis in recent history is coming – and Central Canada and our federal government are not ready.

In less than a month the Governor of Michigan intends to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline which brings the oil that creates half of the gasoline, diesel, propane and jet fuel that Ontario and Quebec consume. The closing of Line 5 will, in short order, cost Ontario access to 540,000 barrels of oil a day and threatens over 28,000 jobs. 

This will not only devastate Canada’s energy security, but it could also cost the Liberals their chances of reelection.  According to a recent survey for the Modern Miracle Network, conducted by One Persuades, most Canadians are concerned about the consequences of shutting down Line 5. In vote-rich Central Canada, 66% of Ontarians and 55% of Quebecois say that the government should fight against the looming shutdown of the pipeline – and 54% of those respondents voted Liberal in the last election.  

Most voters are wondering how this will impact their job, the cost of fuel or the economy in general. They are worried about the impact on their families of job losses and significant spikes in costs if half of Ontario’s fuel supply is cut off. Surprisingly, the federal government has not acted on this issue despite the importance to voters in areas the Liberals need to win to form a majority government. Now the federal energy minister has said some reassuring words and he has talked to the US Energy Secretary who happens to have no jurisdiction on this file whatsoever.

But the only comments on this issue from the White House are not reassuring. Indeed, in the last few weeks, the Biden administration won’t even commit to supporting US pipelines that are under construction.

In Canada, the Line 5 pipeline has multi-partisan support. Ontario’s NDP leader has written to Ottawa on this issue, and a parliamentary committee recently put out a report further sounding the alarm. But so far there has been no action from the Prime Minister or the government. This is odd because a shutdown would likely impact the voting decision of over 30% of voters in the next federal election according to the survey – an alarmingly high 22% of Liberal voters said the shut down of the line could cause them to not vote Liberal. Geographically, 29% of Quebecois and 31% of Ontarians polled said a disruption to Line 5 would likely impact who they voted for in the next federal vote.

This is significant. 20 Liberal seats in Ontario were won by margins of less than 10% and another 27 were won by less than 20%. In Quebec, the Liberals won 10 seats by less than 10% and another 6 by less than 20% in 2019. If the polls numbers hold, 63 Liberal seats could be at risk due to a Line 5 shut down.

The results of this poll should serve as a shot across the bow for the Liberal government. Even Trudeau’s own Liberal voters in his stronghold in Central Canada know the Line 5 shutdown would be disastrous for their communities.

There is another risk associated with Line 5 getting shut down. It will embolden American activists who are trying to stop upgrades to Enbridge’s Main Line, the even bigger pipeline that feeds Line 5. An Enbridge Main Line shutdown would have an even more devastating across-the-board economic impact. As its name suggests the Main Line is the main way Canadian oil gets to US markets. A shutdown of that pipeline would severely impact many of the 500,000 Canadian families that make their living from the energy industry – and it would devastate Canada’s economy.

Strong statements by Ministers aren’t enough – Canadians need to see real, tangible action. And soon.

Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault wants to introduce legislation to try and further censor Canadians.

This new censorship legislation will have tremendous power, including the power to overrule moderators at Facebook or Twitter or YouTube who the government thinks aren’t censoring hard enough.

Of course, taunting someone, or insulting someone, or criticizing a politician, isn’t against the law. In fact, it is protected by law, the highest protection, in our fundamental freedoms.

There is no speech that is more protected in society than political speech criticizing the government.

So what happens when you criticize a government that thrives on censoring its opponents?

On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra went through a few clips from Guilbeault's plan for censoring the internet in Canada.

Speaking about how Guilbeault will enforce these rules through social media companies, Ezra said:

The good news is Guilbeault himself will tell Facebook, YouTube, Twitter etc., he will tell them what the rules are — if the rules make no sense, if they're arbitrary, if they're biased in his favour. He's just going to do it. He's nice that way.

He's just going to tell the social media companies exactly what they have to do and if they do exactly what he says, there's no fine, no censorship.

“For the duration of the (covid) public health emergency (sic)” — what’s invented, not real — the (1944) Public Health Service Act makes it unlawful…for any person, partnership, or corporation to engage in a deceptive act or practice in or affecting commerce associated with the treatment, cure, prevention, mitigation, or diagnosis of (illness) or a government benefit related to (it).”

“The Act provides that such a violation shall be treated as a violation of a rule defining an unfair or deceptive act or practice prescribed under Sec. 18(a)(1)(B) of the FTC Act.”

The above applies to the (Covid) Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) (December 2020).

Alternative treatments for various health issues are safe and effective.

Yet US dark forces want information about them suppressed in pushing hazardous to health covid mass-jabbing.

According to Professor of Internal Medicine/Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School Dr. Paul Marik, he and medical colleagues are effectively treating seriously ill flu patients — now called covid.

Their therapy involves intravenous use of vitamin C, corticosteroids and the anticoagulant heparin to mitigate lungs inflammation, the main cause of death from flu/covid.

Dr. Joseph Mercola maintains that vitamin C and D, zinc, selenium, and other natural supplements can help prevent, treat and cure covid.

On April 15, the Biden regime’s Justice Department and FTC “announced a civil complaint against defendants Eric Anthony Nepute and Quickwork LLC (for) alleg(ed) violations of the (Covid) Consumer Protection Act (CCPA).”

“Defendants” are wrongfully charged with recommending vitamin D and zinc supplements to prevent or treat covid.

The DOJ and FTC seek “civil penalties and injunctive relief to stop the defendants from” recommending safe, effective alternative treatments in lieu of experimental, hazardous, unapproved mRNA technology and vaccines for covid.

CCPA “prohibits deceptive acts or practices associated with the treatment, cure, prevention, mitigation or diagnosis of” covid or other illnesses.

Instead of protecting US consumers, CCPA aims criminalize health professionals who prescribe or recommend alternative treatments for covid instead of toxic drugs that risk irreversible harm to health when taken as directed…

The UK Government have released the 12th update highlighting adverse reactions to both the Pfizer and Astrazeneca vaccines that have occurred since the roll-out began on the 8th December and it does not make for pleasant reading.

The report has collated data inputted up to the 14th April 2021 via the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme. At this point an estimated 11.2 million first doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and 21.2 million doses of the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine had been administered, as well as around 8.5 million second doses, mostly the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine,.

But as predicted, with the rise in vaccines administered came a rise in adverse reactions with 143,034 reported adverse reactions to the Pfizer vaccine and 548,495 adverse reactions to the Oxford / Astrazeneca vaccine. For both vaccines this equates to 1 in every 166 people suffering an adverse reaction. This rate could actually be higher as only 1 – 10% of adverse reactions are actually reported, according to the MHRA themselves.

The narrative of the “deadly viral pandemic” is slowly losing momentum. Whether this is through the public having “post viral fatigue”(as it were), or a deliberate shift in media talking points is unclear. But there’s certainly less energy in the story than at this time last year.

That said, it’s also perfectly clear that governments around the world are in no mood to give up their newly acquired “emergency powers”, and that alleged “anti-covid measures” are not going away anytime soon.

The narrative that locking down the public was “helping the Earth heal” actually dates back to last March, when it was reported all across the world news that only a few weeks of lockdown had cleared up the water in Venician canals so much there were dolphins swimming through the city.

This story later proved to be completely untrue, but that didn’t stop dozens of outlets from picking up the story and running with it.

At various times in the intervening year, Covid has been sold as a having an environmental silver-lining. Including potentially “saving the planet”.

Once willing social media influencers upload their pro-vaccine content, the notice says, “You’ll receive $1,300 via PayPal.”

The pay-to-propagandize scheme comes with a detailed set of instructions for how to best market the vaccine.

In “Frame 1:” the influencers are told to share their excitement about taking the jab or preparing to be vaccinated.

For “Frame 2:” the participants are ordered to share videos and images relaying what they’re most looking forward to doing after getting the shot.

“Frame 3:” gets the followers involved by encouraging them to share what activities they are hoping to engage in post-vaccination.

However, the narrative that people can get “back to normal” after more individuals are vaccinated is a total facade.

The establishment admits even after receiving the experimental mRNA gene therapy “vaccines,” everyone still needs to wear a mask and social distance.

Using social media influencers to push the vaccine on Americans is only a fraction of the propaganda campaign being waged by the Biden Administration.

Just last week, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced the administration invested $3 billion in a “Community Core” operation meant to “provide fact-based messages into the hand of local messengers.”

As the government spends your money to brainwash Americans, many influencers are using social media to fight back against the disinformation agenda.

A judge in Nova Scotia has ordered Google to turn over the identity of the creator of a website that criticizes Antifa over accusations of “cyber bullying.”

The website, which is no longer online, was a blog about far-left extremists, called “Antifa: Exposed.”

Breitbart News reports that the request for the website owner’s identity comes after a complaint from a Nova Scotia couple, Darius Mirshahi and Sakura Saunders, who the blog had alleged were leaders in a Canadian branch of the far-left anarcho-communist Antifa group.

The Breitbart report notes that Saunders, “described as a social justice activist in court filings, is an American-born far-left activist and her anarchy-themed wedding to her partner was detailed in 2012 by alternative Edmonton-based newspaper Vue Weekly.”

Antifa Exposed published photos from the wedding, showing that prominent Antifa anarchists were among the guests.

“The blog alleges the applicants are a member and a leader of a domestic terrorist organization, which uses extreme violence against those they disagree with the intent of destroying civilization,” the couple said in a recent court filing. “The blog alleges the applicant Sakura Saunders made trips to Australia to organize student riots. The blog alleges the applicant Sakura Saunders engages in criminal projects.”

The affidavit went on to claim “that the Blog, and Undercoverkity have caused them psychological stress and fear that they will be targeted with violence.”

A lawyer for the far-left activists claimed that the blogger’s intent “is to promote fear and hatred towards the applicants. Labelling individuals terrorists, and sinister criminals intent on destroying civilization is offensive and dangerous.”

The request for the blog author’s identity was granted under the new, and rarely used, Intimate Images and Cyber-protection Act, Nova Scotia legislation that was introduced in 2017, according to a report from the CBC.

(Natural News) The Centre territorial d’Information indépendante et d’Avis pharmaceutiques (CTIAP), a regional independent drug assessment center in France, has published a report showing that none of the four Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19) “vaccinations” currently being administered are safe or effective because all of them received emergency use authorization (EUA) with insufficient clinical testing.

The jabs are all problematic because the manufacturing processes used are new, as are the excipients they contain, which a team of experts from the Cholet public hospital in the west of France say “should be considered as new active substances.”

Led by Dr. Catherine Frade, a pharmacist, the research team worked with public data released by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in relation to the injections released by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). All four of these injections only have temporary authorization based on perceived need, as opposed to approval based on clinical evidence of safety and efficacy.

All of the jabs are also still subject to studies that extend out to 2024 – three years from now – and beyond. Very little is known, at this point, about the long-term side effects of the injections, though we are seeing short-term side effects in the form of serious blood clots and death.

According to the CTIAP, all four Chinese Virus injections were released for public administration before “proof of quality for the active substance and the finished product” was verified. All of the labs where the jabs are produced also obtained future deadlines to submit associated studies.

What this means, of course, is that every person who takes a Wuhan Flu shot is a human guinea pig participating in a mass pharmaceutical experiment. How vaccine recipients fare moving forward remains to be seen.

In the coming months and years, the research team warns, “variabilities, which impact the very core of the product, could even invalidate any clinical trials conducted.”

“Prudence would even dictate that, in all countries where these vaccines against COVID-19 have been marketed, all the batches thus ‘released’ should be withdrawn immediately; and that these MAs that have been granted should be suspended, or even canceled, as a matter of urgency until further notice,” they say.

Branch Covidians are cult members with a death wish

This is a far cry from the messaging coming from the White House, Donald Trump, Anthony Fauci and pretty much the entirety of mainstream medicine and even religion here in the United States.

While other countries would seem to be taking a more precautionary approach with this new experimental medicine, the establishment here in America is pushing everyone to get injected as quickly as possible in order to bring about a “new normal.”

Very little is being said here about the experimental nature of this whole campaign. Almost nobody, save for those in the independent media, are even bothering to address the fact that Big Pharma’s Chinese Virus injections come with zero liability to their manufacturers – meaning if you get sick or die, there is no legal recourse.

This, combined with the fact that the jabs have never even undergone the normal testing and approval process, makes the whole thing a really bad bet in terms of public health. We expect a “third wave” of viral variants to result in mass death among the vaccinated. The only question is when this will happen, not if.

It’s one thing to pull out the credit card to pay for new shingles to patch a leaky roof in a storm. It’s another thing to pull out that credit card to buy a new big screen before the rain even stops.

That’s what Ottawa is doing by pilling up new program spending on top of its $1-trillion debt tab. Even worse, the feds are trying to pitch their debt-financed big screen as a good investment.

After record-high government spending in 2020, many economists have warned about the dangers of more debt.

“Canada cannot continue piling up public debt faster than GDP without risking a fiscal crisis,” said the University of Calgary’s Jack Mintz.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland aren’t listening.

Within a few short years, the Trudeau government will have nearly doubled Canada’s national debt, thanks to Budget 2021.

The debt-to-GDP ratio will remain at about half of Canada’s entire economy for the next few years, significantly above pre-pandemic levels. And the only fiscal anchor the budget offers is a lame-duck commitment to unwind “COVID-related deficits and reducing the federal debt as a share of the economy over the medium-term.

Professor of economics at McGill University William Watson also has some sobering thoughts.

“We need to understand that what we just went through was an emergency,” said Watson. “The federal government supporting millions of Canadians was not and should not become normal.”

But making higher government spending the new normal is exactly what Budget 2021 does. By 2026, Freeland will have increased permanent federal government spending by $100 billion. Instead of reining in spending after a temporary emergency, the government is using the cover of COVID-19 to embark on debt-fuelled spending binge.

“The fiscal situation we find ourselves in is that the government simply cannot afford major new spending programs,” said Philip Cross, a former chief economic analyst for Statistics Canada.

New and expensive federal programs took centre stage of the feds’ budget, with the government insisting it can somehow now afford to spend $30 billion on a national childcare scheme. To be clear, we couldn’t afford this pre-pandemic and with the government’s debt tab smashing through the $1-trillion ceiling, we certainly can’t afford it now.

And while the new deficit-financed spending on childcare may save parents some money today, Ottawa is essentially forcing parents to offload costs onto their children and grandchildren.

The debt-fueled 2021 budget is spooking Bay Street veteran Davis Rosenberg who is chief economist and strategist at Rosenberg Research.

“As an economist, I would probably give [the budget] a ‘D’ and I might be charitable on that score,” Rosenberg told BNN Bloomberg.

“I think that we’re definitely mortgaging our future with this extreme increase in debt.”

The Trudeau government is taking the wrong approach to a post-pandemic recovery. Experts such as Cross insist “the economy does not need more fiscal stimulus” and point to February and March job numbers to show that a post-pandemic recovery will unfold quite naturally as lockdowns end and restrictions are lifted.

If the feds want to help Canadians, they should toss aside their single-minded spend and borrow approach for one that lets us keep more of our own money.

For less than the cost of the government’s new stimulus program, the federal government could eliminate the GST for two years or cut its income tax-take in half for 2021. That’s support that can help families immediately, unlike many costly government programs.

The federal government has decided to borrow tens of billions of dollars to finance a stimulus package we don’t need and new programs that taxpayers can’t afford. Trudeau and Freeland should listen to the advice of economic experts and start to repair the state of Canada’s government finances.

“Out of this property you Nazis! Gestapo is not allowed here!” he shouted. “Out, Nazi! Out! Nazis are not welcome here! Do not come back here you Nazi psychopaths!”

On Saturday, Pawlowski tweeted that the officers had returned and linked to a video of the confrontation on YouTube, which he titled “The Gestapo came again attacking the church!”

The officers were there delivering a court order saying that they can search the church for COVID violations.

Pawlowski was not interested in cooperating, however, and told them so.

“I do not cooperate with the Gestapo. I do not talk to the Nazis. You came in your uniforms like thugs, that’s what you are. Brown shirts of Adolf Hitler. You are Nazi Gestapo. Communist. Fascists. I do not cooperate with Nazis. Talk to my lawyer. You are not allowed here,” Pawlowski told the officers.

The National File reports that Pawlowski said that “the people who use to laugh and call me names are not laughing anymore. The threat is real to them now.”

“People realize it’s not funny after a year of being treated like like a slave suddenly people are realizing that that I was right, and now so my message is clear, we got a rise up in a peaceful non-compliance. “I want to put an end to all the rumors. I want to show people that there is no danger in getting vaccinated. On the contrary, it will protect us. And it is not like this vaccination will completely prevent us from getting COVID-19 infection. After the vaccination, even if we catch the virus, there won’t be death. So after vaccination, we should still follow the safety guidelines.”

24 hours later, the 59-year-old Vivekh suffered cardiac arrest.

“His vaccination was at a public event with TV channels carrying photographs of him taking the shot. As the cardiac arrest happened less than 24 hours after the inoculation, there were questions raised whether he died due to the side-effects of the vaccine,” GreatGameIndia reported last week.

“Authorities however have said that his death is not linked to the vaccine,” the report continued.

“The hospital said that he suffered an acute coronary syndrome with cardiogenic shock. There was 100 per cent blockage in a vessel and his cardiac arrest may not be due to the vaccination.”

This comes amid India’s investigation into the Astra-Zeneca and COVAXIN vaccines over reports of blood clots.

Vitamin D is “fake news” according to our ever-wise federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu.

In an exchange with an independent MP during Question Period on Thursday, Hajdu dismissed a question about how vitamin D supplements may help prevent illnesses like COVID-19.

“Can the minister explain why Health Canada’s website states that most Canadians are getting enough vitamin D and doesn’t actively recommend supplementing,” asked independent MP Derek Sloan.

“I would encourage the member opposite to not fall prey to the myriad of fake news articles that are circulating around the Internet,” replied Hajdu.

“What Canadians need now is trust, and they need to be able to trust in the information that their elected officials are sharing. I would urge the member to get his sources from credible sites.”

This would be news to my doctor in Toronto, who prescribed vitamin D to me during my recent pregnancy and specifically said it could be a preventative measure against contracting COVID-19.

I suppose he didn’t get the memo from Hajdu. As for her insinuation that “credible sources” do not recommend vitamin D, a simple Google search proves her wrong.

Early in the pandemic, researchers noticed an overlap between those who were contracting the virus and those with vitamin D deficiencies, leading many to study the relationship. And while there are no firm conclusions from the research, many studies do show that low levels of vitamin D are associated with higher risks of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19.

For instance, researchers from the University of Chicago found that “the relative risk of testing positive for COVID-19 was 1.77 times greater” for those with vitamin D deficiencies, noting that the “difference was statistically significant.”

Likewise, studies in both Canada and Spain found that over 80% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients had vitamin D deficiencies.

Of course, not all doctors and researchers agree. But that’s true about almost everything when it comes to COVID-19.

All this is to say that Sloan’s question was valid and deserved a thoughtful response. After all, the United Kingdom’s public health department does recommend vitamin D supplements during the winter months and even offered free supplements to people who were considered at high risk of COVID-19.

But instead, Hajdu’s knee-jerk reaction was to condescendingly reject the question and accuse Sloan of spreading “fake news.” This has become an unfortunate habit of our health minister.

In the early days of the pandemic, as COVID-19 spread from China to the rest of the world, it became abundantly clear that the virus was deadlier than the Communist Party of China had let on.

When Hajdu was asked by a CTV reporter whether Canada trusted China’s numbers, she said there was “no indication that the data that came out of China … was falsified in any way.”

“Your question is feeding into conspiracy theories that many people have been perpetuating on the internet,” she sneered.

A few days later, the Chinese government itself admitted its numbers were wrong and retroactively changed the data.

In November 2020, Hajdu did it again. During Question Period she was asked about Canada’s lacklustre vaccine rollout and replied by accusing a Lethbridge MP of spreading “fake and dangerous news.”

The supposedly “fake and dangerous news” came from the Sun, where my colleague Anthony Furey used government data to reveal that “very few people who are not suffering from a previous medical condition have actually died of COVID-19.”

Furey’s report was accurate, but it was inconvenient to the government’s doom and gloom narrative.

Using government data to reveal a hidden fact is not “fake and dangerous news,” being skeptical of the adversarial Chinese communists is not “propaganda,” and wondering if vitamin D may make us healthier is not “fake news,” regardless of what one self-righteous Trudeau minister believes.

Hajdu says that Canadians must trust their government.

I’ve got news for Hajdu: so-called fake news isn’t the problem. It would be easier to trust this government if it wasn’t wrong so often.

On Saturday, People’s Party Leader Maxime Bernier and Independent Ontario MPP Randy Hillier were joined by hundreds of people at a protest organized by the group No More Lockdowns Canada in Confederation Square in Peterborough.

Bernier and Hillier both received tickets from police during the large anti-lockdown rally.

A total of 8 people were ticketed at the event, three for violations of the Reopening Ontario Act and five for different violations.

Speaking to the crowd, Hillier said he would risk getting tickets as he needed to continue protesting lockdowns.

“Let me tell everybody here — every police officer — I’ll paper my walls with your tickets before I ever give up. Every wall of my house will have your worthless tickets on it before I ever give up,” Hillier said.

“We will not stand down — we will stand for freedom and no more lockdowns.”

Hillier also got into a heated discussion with Peterborough Police Chief Scott Gilbert in Confederation Square.

The day before, Gilbert told reporters that Peterborough police were prepared to charge people at the protest but acknowledged that charging everyone would have been impossible.

Hillier and Bernier have travelled across Ontario in recent days to headline protests against the Ford government’s latest lockdown measures.

On Sunday, Hillier joined Independent MP Derek Sloan for a “Family Freedom” rally against lockdowns in Stratford, Ont.

Protests against lockdowns in Ontario were held across the province on the weekend, including in Toronto, Hamilton and Barrie.

Police say Children's Aid could be called on lockdown offenders at local park

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from Peterborough County alluded to the possibility of fines and even calling Children's Aid Society (CAS), after receiving a complaint that parents and children were illegally congregating at a local park.

While requesting park-goer's names and birthdates, OPP at the Havelock park said COVID-related fines were a "possible route," while calling child protective services was "something [they've] been asked to do," continuing that not obeying the current stay-at-home order is considered to be irresponsible parenting in some people's point of view.

The mother who recorded the interaction, Tiffani Kotzma, was at the Havelock Community Centre park with her daughter on Sunday, April 18 with 11 other children and eight adults when two OPP officers arrived at the park, according to Toronto.com.

Church of God in Aylmer, Ont. holds “one of the largest services” in defiance of lockdowns

On Sunday, the Aylmer Church of God held an in-person service in defiance of the Ford government’s restrictions on places of worship.

The service is believed to be the largest held at the Church of God over the past year, with well over 100 attendees. Witnesses estimate as many as 200 cars were parked on the property. The service was also attended by Independent MPP Randy Hillier and MP Derek Sloan.

Police charged multiple people at the church for violating the province’s emergency orders.

“As a result of the gathering today and in anticipation of emergency order breaches, we monitored a church service and observed a large number of participants who attended,” Aylmer police Chief Zvonko Horvat said.

“This is probably one of the largest services that we’ve seen at the Church of God and although we don’t have exact count, it would be in excess of 100 for sure.”

Police say charges are being processed, with three people charged with criminal offences in relation to the gathering.

Speaking to the congregation on Sunday, Pastor Henry Hildebrandt said the past year has strengthened the church’s convictions. He also condemned other Christian leaders for not doing enough to oppose restrictions on churches.

Conservative heritage critic Alain Reyes is strongly condemning the Liberal government’s proposed social media bill as an attempt to curb Canadians’ freedoms.

Reyes said Bill C-10, which brings website publishers and users under the jurisdiction of Canada’s broadcast regulators, will give the government too much power over what Canadians post online.

“While we support creating a level playing field between large foreign streaming services and Canadian broadcasters, C-10 is a bad piece of legislation giving too much power to the CRTC to regulate the internet and provides no clear guidelines for how that power will be used,” Reyes said in a statement Monday morning.

The Conservatives on the House of Commons heritage committee proposed an amendment offering protections to individual internet users and smaller publishers, but the Liberals rejected it.

Not only did the Liberals on the committee reject this amendment, but, on Friday, actually voted to expand the bill to apply to user-generated content, potentially subjecting YouTube videos, Facebook posts and tweets of Canadians to government regulation.

“There could be no clearer proof that the Liberals are not just going after large foreign streaming services, they are also targeting ordinary Canadians,” Reyes said. “Conservatives will continue to stand up for the freedoms of Canadians who post their content online and oppose C-10 at every stage of the legislative process.”

Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault has previously rejected claims that the legislation would somehow target the social media use of Canadians at large.

“In the case of YouTube, for example, we’re not particularly interested in what people…you know, when my great-uncle posts pictures of his cats, that’s not what we’re interested in as a legislator,” said Guilbeault.

“When YouTube or Facebook act as a broadcaster, then the legislation would apply to them and the CRTC would define how that would happen. But really, we’re not interested in user-generated content. We are interested in what broadcasters are doing.”

Despite Guilbeault’s assurances, committee members voted in support of a motion by Liberal MP Julie Dabrusin to require that “all the programming” found on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook would be subject to the Liberal government’s control.

Prior to the motion, user-generated content was exempt from government regulatory control.

The GraceLife Church congregation met in secret for the third consecutive Sunday since provincial health authorities seized the church building and land, west of Edmonton city limits.

The Alberta government locked up their pastor, confiscated their church and forced them into hiding, but the faithful members of GraceLife Church are still holding underground services in undisclosed locations each weekend to avoid law enforcement.

The church property was fenced off by RCMP and Alberta Health Services using a private fencing contractor at dawn on April 7. An AHS statement said the agency was acting on a previous Court of Queen's Bench closure order issued in January, and that the closure will remain in place until GraceLife can demonstrate an ability to comply with public health restrictions on places of worship.

Currently, all places of worship in Alberta must limit attendance to 15 per cent of fire code capacity and enforce mask wearing and social distancing. GraceLife’s congregants and Pastors Jake Spenst and James Coates say these restrictions infringe on their ability to practice their religion uninhibited by the government, and that they are obligated to meet each week in person.

Coates was previously fined $1,200 for violating pandemic restrictions, and was jailed for 35 days after he turned himself in to authorities for failing to comply with an unsigned undertaking that forced him to adhere to worship service rules. Coates still faces trial, set to begin May 3-5 in Edmonton.

Dr. Shelley Evans is not a political protester. She is simply a Canadian who wants to come home.

Dr. Evans lives in Okotoks, Alberta, but since January 2021, she has been stranded in the United Kingdom and doing everything in her power to get back to her family and business.

Three months ago, her partner, a U.K. resident with a Canadian visa, suffered a heart attack. As you might expect, she rushed to the U.K. to be by his side and care for him as he recovered. You would hope that dealing with a loved one suffering from a heart attack would be the most stressful part of Dr. Evans’ story, but it should come as little surprise that the Canadian government only made things worse.

Since February 19, 2021, Dr. Evans has been jumping through bureaucratic loops just trying to get home with her partner.

She has five children eagerly awaiting her return, not to mention all her clients. Additionally, the lease on her current home is coming to an end, so she must pack up and move right away. Simply put, Dr. Evans needs to come back home, but to do so she may have to abandon her partner to continue his recovery alone.

Dr. Evans is not trying to make a political point.

Despite her moral opposition to many restrictions implemented by the Canadian government, she has downloaded the advised tracking app, taken COVID tests, and followed every directive from the Canadian government, but she and her partner are still being left in the lurch.

There is no telling whether the root cause of this situation has been overbearing restrictions and regulations or simply bureaucratic ineptitude, but it is clear that Dr. Shelley Evans is not the only Canadian facing needless anxiety thanks to the failings of the Government of Canada. While people from all over the world continue to fly in and out of our country unfettered, Dr. Evans has been left stranded abroad, wondering when she will get to come home.

Liberal Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau was grilled by the Conservatives during Monday’s session of question period after it was revealed that Iran was elected to a 4-year term to the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

Conservative MP Garnett Genuis raised the issue with the minister and asked the Canadian government to condemn Iran’s involvement.

“The government of Iran has just been elected to the UN Commission on the Status of Women where it will be able to join Saudi Arabia in contributing to international discussions on advancing the rights of women and girls. This elevation obviously makes a mockery of the important work the commission should be doing. What is the position of the government of Canada on the appropriateness of Iran’s leaders holding a seat at the UN Commission on the Status of Women?” asked Genuis.

“Canada will always be unequivocal when it comes to the protection of women’s rights around the world. Canada also firmly believes in the United Nations and multilateralism. Of course, we recognize that the UN, including the women’s rights commission is not perfect, but let me be clear, our strong position on the human rights situation in Iran including women has been expressed repeatedly both in public and in private and we will continue to do so,” said Garneau.

“If the government is not hesitating to express its position, it should do so right now with respect to the presence of the government of Iran on the UN women’s rights commission. We have all seen the images of courageous Iranian women standing up to the regime, a regime that this government unfortunately continues to try to curry favour with. It’s another slap in the face for these oppressors to be on that commission, and the government should clearly state what the problem is here.”

In response Garneau claimed that the voting process relied on a secret ballot, meaning that the voting direction of member states is not shared.

On April 20, 2021 Iran was elected to the UN Commission on the Status of Women with 43 votes in favour. Nations hoping to achieve representation on the commission were required to have at least 27 votes. Iran was chosen alongside other nations like Pakistan, China and Lebanon.

According to an analysis by UN Watch, at least four EU and Western democracies voted to elect Iran to the position.

In total, there are 54 member states who participated in the vote, 15 of which were Western democracies. According to the voting results, 11 of the member nations did not back Iran’s spot at the commission, meaning that four Western countries potentially broke ranks to support the authoritarian Iranian regime.

Iran has an abhorrent record when it comes to women’s rights, including the practice of jailing women’s rights activists. A 2020 report by the UN General Assembly noted the human rights situation in the country as including “torture and large-scale arbitrary detention, as well as persistent discrimination against women, girls and minorities.”
