It appears a shocking new precedent has just been set by the Supreme Court of British Columbia. On Friday, Justice Michael Tammen sentenced a B.C. father to a whopping six month prison term, plus a $30,000 fine, payable to Ronald MacDonald House Charities.

The six month term meant that the father is to spend another 134 days behind bars, in addition to time served awaiting his trial without bail.

The stiff sentence came after the B.C. father, known simply as C.D. because of a publication ban, plead guilty to contempt of court for breaching orders that restricted how much he could inform the public about his case, A.B. vs. C.D.

The A.B. vs. C.D. case was about the father's inability to prevent the medical transitioning, and almost certain sterilization, of his child without his consent.

The case has gained international attention due to it’s unprecedented nature, which included a now expired protection order issued by Justice Francesca Marzar that restricted the father from referring to his biologically female child, who now identifies as a transgender boy, as a “she”, because doing so would be considered “family violence.”

Many of the bans that were designed to silence C.D. from speaking out about key details regarding the case also silence Canadian press from informing the public about matters of public interest. For example, the names of the doctors involved in the child’s medical transitioning by use of cross sex hormone treatments, which are linked to long term health issues and permanent sterility.

C.D. partook in various media interviews, some which were in breach of the bans for reasons he repeatedly explained as being what he believed was best for his child. He state his goal was to warn other parents about key players and systems like the controversial gender theory school curriculum called SOGI 123 that he believed influenced his child’s rapid onset gender dysphoria.

Justice Tammen showed no mercy with such reasoning in his court room.

Justice Tammen also made it known that the final statement provided by C.D. — which came shortly after the justice made it known he felt the 45 day jail time that was proposed from both counsels was, in his opinion “woefully inadequate — helped mitigate the length of his sentence.

The publication bans that this father felt so convicted to breach, to the point of being imprisoned in an effort to prevent other parents going through similar things — like the B.C. mom who filed an injunction after discovering her child had been scheduled to have both breasts removed without her consent — show no sign of stopping anytime soon.

Just prior to the court room being dismissed, the crown lawyer suggested that another publication ban be issued to prevent media from mentioning the names of out of country news sources like Mass Resistance, and The Federalist, who have also interviewed the father and allegedly refused to take down publications even though they may identity the child.

Although, Justice Tammen did not issue such and order on Friday, he did say he agreed with one. Imagine that!

While I believe the child does deserve privacy, and should not be named in publications, freedom of press must also be weighed in such decisions.

On Friday, April 2, 2021, there was a peaceful protest and march — an opportunity for many small businesses owners to express their concerns regarding the new COVID-19 safety protocols that the province of British Columbia had recently enforced on many businesses.

BC’s new protocols included (but weren’t limited to) prohibiting indoor dining at restaurants, bars and cafes and restricting indoor training at fitness centres. For many small business owners these new protocols represented a permanent closure of their businesses. When I heard about the new rules, I grew concerned. Though I’m not a business owner and still fairly new to Vancouver, I decided to show my support the only way I knew how — I took pictures. I went to the event with the intent of making a visual record of whatever happened.

Fuellmich calls the events of the past year the worst crime ever committed against humanity. It is not about a virus, nor is it about health. When it comes to the Montreal Police Service, it would seem that sometimes a camera and microphone can serve as behaviour modification devices.

At least that seemed to be the case last Sunday when my cameraman Mocha and I showed up to cover a very small anti-lockdown protest that began at Molson Park.

The police presence might have exceeded the number of protesters at one point.

But why? These were entirely peaceful people.

And what was with the large number of police cruisers who followed the demonstrators? Since the protesters were ordered to stay on the sidewalk as opposed to marching in a live lane of traffic, surely the number of cruisers was unnecessary — unless this was all about the police using intimidation tactics (which is a house specialty of the Montreal Police Service).

And lo and behold! No arrests and no demands were made for the maskless protesters to mask up — which is something the police actually do in Montreal.

Not even Mocha and I ended our report in the backseat of a paddy wagon — surely, a belated Easter miracle!

Bit then again, maybe the Montreal police had realized how they had embarrassed themselves the day before when they spent some 10 hours trying to get a warrant to board and search our perfectly legal (and under-capacity) Airbnb houseboat.

So perhaps the bully boys in blue learned a lesson by not making things worse for themselves by acting like thugs during the Sunday protest. They even left Mocha and I alone to chronicle the protest.

Good! Because last time I checked, even in Premier Francois Legault’s Quebec, practicing journalism is not a crime. Well, at least not yet…

Several Ontario highways and bridges bordering Quebec were heavily backed up early Monday morning due to Premier Doug Ford’s new inter-provincial COVID-19 checkpoints.

Traffic reports showed blockages as long as 10 kilometres long near Montée Paiement as well as hundreds of motorists struggling to cross the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge between Gatineau and Ottawa.

As of Monday, non-essential travel in and out of Ontario has been banned and police checkpoints have been instituted at the province’s border with Quebec and Manitoba. Canadians hoping to leave or enter the province must do so only for essential reasons which include:

Residents who have a principal home in Quebec

People who have a secondary residence which requires upkeep

Humanitarian aid

Healthcare visits

Work or educational reasons

Complying with a court order or parental custody visits

Federal public service

Transporting goods

Travelling through to access a primary residence outside of Quebec

Quebec’s public health measures also require anyone who enters the province to self-isolate for 14 days.

Since the early hours of the morning, police officers were present at the Champlain, Portage, Chaudière and Macdonald-Cartier bridges and at the Bourbonnais and Quyon ferries.

Premier Ford recently backtracked on public health measures which included giving the province’s law enforcement additional powers to stop and question people for simply being outside of their residences.

Soon after Ford announced the new spat of emergency measures, police forces across the province came out in opposition to the move saying that they do not intend to randomly stop pedestrians or vehicles as the Ontario government had asked.

“We will not be conducting random vehicle or individual stops. As before, our initiatives will be both complaint driven or proactive, with the goal of gaining compliance. Those that refuse to comply will receive the appropriate penalty,” wrote identical statements by both Niagara and Waterloo region police services.

The GraceLife congregation has gone underground to escape the Alberta government's enforcement of health orders. For the second Sunday since provincial health authorities, RCMP, Paladin Security and a private fencing contractor seized control of the church property, the congregation met at a secret location to worship without complying with restrictions on religious services.

The church property was fenced off on April 7 when an Alberta Health Services closure notice, that was issued to GraceLife in January, was enforced by police. The church has been holding weekly services that reach fire code capacity of over 600 people. The services are non-compliant with health edicts that limit in person church attendance to 15 per cent of fire code capacity, force congregants into masks and require social distancing inside the building.

GraceLife says these restrictions on attendance and interaction are a violation of its congregants' religious freedom.

GraceLife Pastor James Coates drew international attention after he turned himself in to authorities for violating the public health orders on places of worship. Coates spent 35 days in Edmonton’s maximum security Remand Centre before a deal was struck for his release. His trial is set to begin in May.

According to a video posted by the church, last week’s underground service was held inside a building.

Freeland’s historic budget as the first female finance chief follows the blueprint of previous Liberal fiscal plans in seeking to expand the state and make social programs more generous.

“This is social infrastructure that will drive jobs and growth. This is feminist economic policy. This is smart economic policy,” Freeland said.

Overall, as Bloomberg reports, the nearly C$500 billion ($399 billion) budget is a bet that voters will support Trudeau and Freeland’s vision for the government to play a bigger role in the country’s economy over the long run.

“This budget is about finishing the fight against Covid. It’s about healing the economic wounds left by the Covid recession,” Freeland said in prepared remarks Monday.

“And it’s about creating more jobs and prosperity for Canadians in the days and decades to come.”

The headline item is new childcare and early learning funding of about C$30 billion over five years, with the intention of creating a subsidized program offering C$10-a-day care

Freeland announced various "green" initiatives, including various tax incentives, including a 50% cut to the general corporate and small business income tax rate for companies that manufacture zero-emissions technologies, and an investment tax credit to speed up adoption of carbon capture technology with the goal of reducing emissions by at least 15 megatonnes of CO2 annually.

“The resource and manufacturing sectors that are Canada’s traditional economic pillars energy, mining, agriculture, forestry, steel, aluminum, autos, aerospace will be the foundation of our new, resilient and sustainable economy,” Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said in her planned remarks to Parliament.

“Canada will become more productive and competitive by supplying the green exports the world wants and needs.”

But the populist budget could not just incentivize, it needed to punish too… (in the name of feminist fair share seeking we presume). The measures won’t bring in a lot of revenue but will generate some headlines.

The budget includes a tax measure that will sting a few private equity shops, limiting interest-expense deductions to 40% of a company’s earnings starting in 2023 and 30% after that.

Non-resident homeowners will face a 1% tax if their property remains vacant, and a luxury tax will be levied on airplanes and cars worth over C$100,000, as well as yachts.

And finally, as of 2022, some digital companies will face a 3% tax on revenue from “digital services that rely on data and content contributions from Canadian users” – a measure designed to squeeze some cash from foreign technology giants including Facebook. The government thinks it can raise C$3.4 billion over five years from the levy.

As Bloomberg notes, the budget will now face a vote in the House of Commons, where the Liberals will need the support of at least one opposition party. Failure to pass it would trigger an election.

The Loonie is largely unaffected but the long-end of the Canadian yield curve is surging higher as the government plans to issue a record C$121 billion ($96 billion) of bonds maturing in 10 years or later, up from C$107 billion in previous fiscal year that ended March 31 (and includes a reopening of 50-year issue)…

The virtue-signaling government also disclosed that, subject to market conditions, it targets C$5 billion in its first green-bond debut, the first of “many".

Sales of the Peloton Bike and Peloton Tread (treadmill) erupted during the virus pandemic as people worked out at home. As soon as the lockdowns took effect in March 2020, the home-fitness business took off. But there appears to be a problem with one of Peloton's products. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned over the weekend that consumers should stop using Tread if there are young children or pets at home.

CPSC's advisory was published on Saturday and warns:

"The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers about the danger of popular Peloton Tread+ exercise machine after multiple incidents of small children and a pet being injured beneath the machines. The Commission has found that the public health and safety requires this notice to warn the public quickly of the hazard."

"To date, CPSC is aware of 39 incidents including one death. CPSC staff believes the Peloton Tread+ poses serious risks to children for abrasions, fractures, and death."

"In light of multiple reports of children becoming entrapped, pinned, and pulled under the rear roller of the product, CPSC urges consumers with children at home to stop using the product immediately."

The advisory comes as regulators continue to investigate a child's death by a Tread.

Shares of Pelotons slumped more than 5% premarket Monday on the news.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. analyst Doug Anmuth recommended clients buy the dip related to the CPSC's warning.

"Peloton emphasizes that the Tread+ is safe when its warnings and safety instructions are followed, and the company will neither stop selling nor recall the Tread+," Anmuth told clients in a research note. He added that CPSC's advisory on Tread won't delay the company's launch of a lower-priced Tread.

CPSC also released a disturbing video of the Tread safety incident.

Peloton released a statement countering CPSC's advisory and called it "misleading and inaccurate."

That was quite the scene at Huf Gym in Mississauga, Ont. last Friday. A few days prior, co-owners Jonathan and Teresa Heron had decided they had had enough of the lockdowns and opened their little gym on Dundas Street East. Dozens of anti-lockdown supporters showed up to stand in solidarity with the gym. And when a Peel Regional Police sergeant showed up, apprehension turned to appreciation when the cop didn’t ticket the Herons and their supporters, and instead, hugged them. A celebration immediately broke out.

Alas, not everyone was celebrating. The usual suspects in the Media Party huffed and puffed about this supposed super-spreader facility getting off scot-free — all the while turning a blind eye to nearby Costcos and Walmarts that are packed to the gills on a daily basis.

And naturally, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie — who, like everyone else in government and the bureaucracy, has yet to miss a single day’s worth of salary during the pandemic — announced that the city would pursue the heftiest fines possible under the Reopening Ontario Act.

Indeed, under the ludicrously-named Reopening Ontario Act, fines for individuals can reach up to $100,000 and one year in jail, while those in charge of a business can face fines of up to $500,000 and up to one year in jail. Corporations face a maximum penalty of $10 million.

And if the sight of a Peel Regional Police officer hugging the Herons as opposed to fining them seemed too good to be true, that would appear to be the case. The following day, the sergeant who hugged Jonathan, Teresa and their supporters was suspended, and an internal investigation has been commenced. Shame.

In the days to follow, we shall continue to monitor Huf Gym to see if Mayor Crombie gives the Herons the full out Adam Skelly treatment. In the meantime, we are left pondering: what crime was committed here? If a gym wants to open its doors, its clients want to work out and everything is consensual (and there is no evidence of fitness facilities being Wuhan virus hot spots, unlike, say, long term care homes) then what, pray tell, is the problem?

In this matter, we subscribe to that old motto: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Alas, we have a feeling that Mayor Crombie, Premier Ford and a legion of COVID-Karens want this gym “fixed” — as in, put out of business for good… all in the name of public safety, of course.

Liberals reveal $354 billion deficit in 2021 budget announcement

The Liberal government unveiled over $100 billion in new spending in its first federal budget since 2019.

Included in the lengthy budget was a series of new measures meant to aid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, including a $30 billion investment towards developing a national child-care plan and over $17 billion in environmental spending.

Tory leader Erin O’Toole criticized the government’s rampant spending, saying Canada needs to get its economy back on track with balanced books.

“We need a plan to get back to fiscal balance,” said O’Toole in a press conference on Monday.

“The Conservatives have a plan to do that over the next decades, so we don’t burden our children and grandchildren with out-of-control debts. That’s what seems to be Mr. Trudeau’s intention. We’ll see if there’s any sort of plan for balance today.”

The budget, entitled “A Recovery Plan for Jobs, Growth, and Resilience,” projects a deficit of $354.2 billion for the 2020-2021 fiscal year and a $154.7 billion deficit next year.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland called it a “responsible” and growth-oriented plan.

“This budget is a smart, responsible, ambitious plan for jobs and growth, that is designed precisely to heal the specific wounds of the COVID-19 recession and to permanently strengthen Canada’s economic muscle,” Freeland said.

Part of the 2021 budget includes a $12 billion extension to COVID-19 aid programs meant to help small businesses suffering as a result of the pandemic. Meanwhile, the Liberals also hope to extend COVID-19 rent and wage subsidies which were supposed to expire this June.

The Liberals also proposed a new tax meant to target Canada’s ultra-rich. The tax would apply to the sales of luxury cars, boats and personal jets meant for personal use.

“The tax would be calculated at the lesser of 20 per cent of the value above the threshold ($100,000 for cars and personal aircraft, $250,000 for boats) or 10 per cent of the full value of the luxury car, boat, or personal aircraft. This measure would come into force on January 1, 2022,” read the budget.

Other taxation measures include a possible tax on vaping products and mention of an increase to excise duties by $4 per carton on tobacco products with the hope of generating $2.1 billion in revenue over five years.

The Liberals also proposed a Digital Services Tax applicable to 3% “on revenue from digital services that rely on data and content contributions from Canadian users.”

Currently, the federal debt is expected to cross the $1.3 trillion mark.

A True North review found that 15 of Canada’s largest cities and towns have made a declaration in some form or another that they are systemically racist institutions.

Numbered among them are Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and dozens of others.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, “systemic racism” is defined as “an infrastructure of rulings, ordinances or statutes promulgated by a sovereign government or authoritative entity, whereas such ordinances and statutes entitles one ethnic group in a society certain rights and privileges, while denying other groups in that society these same rights and privileges because of long-established cultural prejudices, religious prejudices, fears, myths, and Xenophobia’s held by the entitled group.”

This report only looked at explicit admissions of systemic or institutional racism by municipal governments and took into account mayoral statements, comments made by city representatives in the media, documents and statements made on official webpages.

All of the cities and towns included in the list have a population of 100,000 people or more.

Liberal budget promises new funding for the CBC

The new federal budget released on Monday promises millions in new funding for CBC and Radio-Canada despite declining viewership.

Over the next year, Canada’s state broadcaster will receive an extra $21 million in addition to the CBC’s annual $1.2 billion federal grant.

“Budget 2021 proposes to provide $21 million in 2021-22 as immediate operational support to the CBC/Radio-Canada,” the budget document reads.

“This funding will ensure its stability during the pandemic and enable it to continue providing news and entertainment programming that keeps Canadians informed.”

The Trudeau government says the pandemic has resulted in the CBC losing advertising revenue. According to the budget, an injection of cash is necessary to keep the CBC afloat.

“Like many media organizations, during the pandemic the CBC/Radio-Canada has experienced declining advertising revenues that threaten its capacity to continue delivering public television and radio programs.”

However, the CBC was steadily losing advertising revenue long before the pandemic, with CBC TV revenue decreasing 53% between 2014 and 2019.

In a previous statement to the House of Commons heritage committee, CBC President Catherine Tait claimed the CBC needed a bailout as the decline in revenue seen under her tenure caused the organization significant stress.

As president of CBC, Tait receives a salary between $390,300-$459,100, with vice-presidents earning between $250,000-$417,500.

Previous records have shown that the CBC engages with very few Canadians, with less than 4% of Canadians regularly watching CBC TV in 2019 and only 0.8% tuning into its evening newscasts.

Ontario Soccer is calling on the province to reverse the ban on outdoor sports announced last week, citing a low risk of transmission.

In an open letter, CEO Johnny R. Misley and President Peter Augruso said that Ontario Soccer has proven to not be a source of new COVID-19 infections.

“Since launching our Return to Play Guide and Safety Protocols to our membership on June 11, 2020, only 29 cases of Covid-19 have been reported across our entire soccer community to date –17 of the 29 were youth cases, all with an identifiable origin of transmission from outside of soccer activities,” they wrote.

“Ontario Soccer’s membership consists of 500,000 participants organized through 550 community Clubs and Academies.”

Last week, the Ford government announced sweeping new restrictions, including the closures of playgrounds, golf courses and other outdoor sporting areas.

After just one day, Ford backtracked on the closure of playgrounds following backlash from parents, educators and medical professionals. Sports have not been permitted to resume.

“Ontario Soccer applauds your courage in reversing the April 16 decision to close all playgrounds across Ontario for our children; given the tremendously negative impact such restriction would have had on our most vulnerable youngsters,” they wrote.

“However, stopping at simply not closing playgrounds would still fall woefully short of recognizing and providing the support our Ontario Youth so desperately need at this time.”

Ontario Soccer notes that sports and physical activity are crucial for children’s physical and mental wellbeing. The mental health of all Canadians have suffered since the beginning of lockdowns, with children being acutely harmed.

In February, the Ford government rejected another proposal from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to hold their season this year, leaving the careers of many young players up in the air.

As worries about fragile global supply chains stoke fears about rising prices and inflationary pressures, Canadian National Railway is planning to make a $30 billion bid for Kansas City Southern, which had already agreed to sell itself to Canadian Pacific. The bid will likely kick off a bidding war amid another wave of consolidation in the freight.

Canadian National plans to offer $325 for each Kansas City Southern share Tuesday, including $200 a share in cash and 1.059 Canadian National shares, the people said. Shares of KSU surged 20% on the news, as the Canadian National offer represents a 20% premium over the previous offer made by Canadian Pacific.

According to WSJ's sources, Canadian National believes a combined firm would generate incremental cash flow—in the form of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization—of around $1 billion.

Canadian Pacific, meanwhile, offered shareholders $90 and 0.489 share of Canadian Pacific stock for each share of Kansas City Southern, which would give KC Southern shareholders 25% ownership of Canadian Pacific's outstanding stock.Their formula values KC Southern stock at $275 a share, a 23% premium from Friday’s closing price. Under those terms, the Canadian railroad also said it would assume $3.8 billion in outstanding Kansas City Southern debt. The companies said the transaction has an enterprise value of roughly $29 billion.

Kansas City Southern is the smallest of the five major freight railroads in the US, and plays a key role in US-Mexico trade, with a network across both countries. Its trains bring autos and other industrial products up from factories south of the border into Texas and the Midwest and haul American farm goods back to Mexico. It also runs a rail link along the Panama Canal. But a merger with either rival will create a massive firm with operations sprawling across North America.

Either deal would create the first freight-rail network linking the US, Mexico and Canada by connecting ports in all three countries. Consolidation in the rail freight industry raises some interesting questions, as decreased competition will give a combined carrier more power to raise prices. But after the shortages and supply disruptions caused by COVID, and other more prosaic issues - surprisingly frosty winter weather in Texas, a megaship stuck in the Suez Canal - increased scale could give shippers - who play a critical role in American commerce - more flexibility and durability in the face of disruptions.

Budget 2021 proposes to provide $21.5 million over five years, starting in 2021-22, for a Racialized Communities Legal Support Initiative. This would support organizations that provide free public legal education and information as well as organizations that provide legal services and advice to racialized communities.

Budget 2021 also proposes to provide an additional $26.8 million, in 2021-22, to enable participating provinces to maintain immigration and refugee legal aid support for asylum seekers, while protecting the efficiency and integrity of the asylum system.

The federal budget was tabled on Monday and faces several votes in the House of Commons, which could trigger a spring election.

A viral video appears to show an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer pushing a boy off his scooter in a Gravenhurst, Ont. park on Sunday.

The OPP say they are investigating the incident, which comes after skate parks were shut down due to the stay-at-home order currently in place across Ontario.

On Friday, Premier Doug Ford’s government announced enhanced powers for police, allowing them to stop anyone outside and demand identification. Ford then walked back the new orders the next day after severe backlash.

B.C. Christians worship together in protest of COVID religious restrictions

When British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said “faith is not a building,” she was absolutely right.

That’s why when tyrannical governments like Communist China try to smother Christianity by doing things like removing crosses from church buildings, arresting believers for attending Zoom bible studies, or rewriting scripture to increase idolization of the government they fail and Christianity continues to grow at a rapid pace.

That’s also why in spite of the B.C. government’s ongoing restrictions, which place a disproportionate burden on houses of worship compared to secular buildings, congregations are finding a legal way to gather in Christ and worship together.

Currently, indoor worship services of any size are prohibited in B.C.

Even when the authoritarian government implemented a small variance to allow faith communities to gather for four days during holy days like Easter and Ramadan, (which they then immediately suspended) they still used their sweeping power to restrict citizens’ ability to sing in such services.

“Worship is the language for man’s soul and spirit, we’re not mad to just talk” said pastor Terrance Richmond from Love Quest Church, who was the organizer of one of the two worship-style protests I covered.

Richmond and Christian broadcaster Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson both preached at the protests at the platform of Vancouver’s Jack Poole Plaza, surrounded by full restaurant patios, where citizens did not have to worry about being fined or shamed for gathering.

Alberta's original restaurant rebel still fighting for freedom at the Whistle Stop Cafe

Remember Chris Scott from the Whistle Stop Cafe in Mirror, Alberta, population 500?

He reopened his diner in defiance of the lockdown restrictions on dine-in restaurant service way back in January. The provincial government had closed restaurant dining rooms in the middle of December, and were dragging their heels on reopening the industry, so Chris took matters into his own hands.

Chris endured Alberta Health Services closure notices, constant RCMP surveillance of his business and almost daily visits from AHS inspectors. He was issued a summons to appear to answer for defying the public health orders, and the provincial government was granted a court order to enforce the original closure order.

But Chris didn't close. He could have served jail time if he were found in contempt of that court order, but he didn't blink. And eventually the Alberta government reopened restaurant dining rooms after being dragged to the decision, kicking and screaming, by an army of restaurants inspired by Chris to reopen their doors too.

It was a restaurant rebellion victory, with the help of lawyer Chad Williamson, who Rebel News hired at no cost to Chris through www.FightTheFines.com.

However, the Alberta government has now closed indoor dining services one more time, putting Chris Scott back in a standoff with the government. Chris is unwilling to close, and the government wants to make an example of him.

I went to Mirror to talk to Chris about the Alberta government’s threats to bring him under the thumb of the health bureaucracy. The Whistle Stop remains as busy as ever, and Chris remains firm in his conviction to do what's right, no matter what kind of bullying the government has in store for him.

Toronto issues order to close workplaces with COVID outbreaks

Toronto Public Health is issuing an order that will see workplaces with COVID-19 case outbreaks forced to close for a minimum of 10 days.

The order is being issued through Section 22 of the Ontario Health and Protection Act, which grants medical officers of health, in this case Dr. Eileen de Villa, the power to force businesses to close if there is a risk of an outbreak of a communicable disease.

In a press release, the City of Toronto pointed to the rise in “variants of concern” that are spreading quickly throughout the Toronto and its surrounding areas, with outbreaks being “increasingly linked to workplaces, where the virus can spread through close contact between workers.”

The new order will require the full or partial closures of workplaces when five or more COVID cases are identified within a 14-day period, or where cases could “reasonably” have been acquired while in the workplace.

Should a workplace have an outbreak that meets this criteria, it will be closed for a minimum of 10 days. During that time period, workers from the affected location will be required to self-isolate. An exemption will be provided for certain workplaces, like health care facilities, schools, child care centres, as well as others which are providing “critical services.”

The order is set to come into effect on April 23, 2021, and follows the same approach that was taken by neighbouring Peel Region. Similar measures have also been enacted in British Columbia.

"Workplaces that are open provide an opportunity for COVID-19 to spread," said de Villa.

“Given that the majority of our cases are now as a result of variants of concern, which transmit faster, this order will support Toronto Public Health’s investigators to help workplaces immediately reduce the risk of spread and manage workplace outbreaks quickly.”

In justifying the new measures, Toronto Mayor John Tory said that the city is doing everything it can “to help essential workers facing the third wave of this virus.”

“This Section 22 order is meant to help slam the brakes on workplace outbreaks that we know are moving much faster due to the variants of concern. I urge all employers to follow the public health advice to stop outbreaks and protect their employees including against the financial consequences of illness.”

Toronto, with a population near three million, has reported just over 130,000 total cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic was declared, with the variants of concern numbering just shy of 20,000 of that total number. Toronto lists just over 2,900 fatalities linked to COVID-19, and has nearly 900 individuals in hospital with COVID-related illnesses.

To date, the city has issued more than 923,000 COVID vaccine doses.

What a difference half a day makes!

At 12:01 a.m. Saturday, new rules kicked in in Ontario. On Friday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford had said, “everything was on the table” (including, we presume, a heaping helping of cherry cheesecake). And so it was that at the stroke of midnight, a whole new raft of super-sized lockdown orders came into effect. That’s because since lockdowns don’t work — as the past year has shown us again and again — it somehow makes perfect sense for this premier to double down on lockdown lunacy.

Amongst the new draconian orders was one pertaining to “outdoor gatherings.” Namely: “All outdoor social gatherings and organized public events will be prohibited, except for members of the same household. A person who lives alone could join one other household.”

Nowhere in the order was there an exemption for protests, not even — shockers! — for Black Lives Matter protests!

So there was much speculation that the regular Saturday high noon gathering of the “Yahoos” on the northern lawns of Queen’s Park would result in a whack ‘em and stack ‘em reception from the rank and file of the Toronto Police Service.

But even though hundreds of members of Yahoo Nation showed up, clearly violating the outdoor gathering rule, we did not witness a single ticket issued, nor an arrest, nor a free Uber ride by way of the police paddy wagon.

Why? Well, get this: not only are Ontarians sick and tired of the lockdowns, but so too are the members of law enforcement. Within hours of the new rules being announced, many Ontario police departments publicly announced they would NOT be enforcing Premier Ford’s orders to randomly stop citizens and demand their identification. And so it was that for a delightful change, police allowed the Queen’s Park demonstration to go ahead — and even escorted the protestors through the streets of downtown Toronto. Wow! A tip of the hat to Toronto’s Finest.

Undoubtedly, Premier Ford was humiliated on Saturday. So much so that Ontario’s top cherry cheesecake aficionado started flip-flopping on the new rules — such as his imbecilic idea of closing playgrounds to children. After all, how does the closure of a playground in Owen Sound help with a Wuhan virus outbreak in a Toronto long-term care facility or at a warehouse in Brampton?

Way to go, Dougie! Now, how about flip-flopping on those other moronic rules you put into play? How about letting people be people? How about opening up the economy? Indeed, check out the file footage of the 2018 Ontario provincial election. You’ll find there was a certain leader back then who ran on the slogans, “For the People” and “Ontario: Open for Business.”

Canadian mining company suing Turkish government for violating trade agreement

Canadian mining firm Alamos Gold has announced a US$1 billion lawsuit against the Turkish government for refusing to renew their mining licenses.

Alamos Gold says the Turkish government has refused to give a reason for why the permits for the Kirazlı Gold Mine were not renewed and will not provide a timeline for renewal. The construction of the mine has been stopped since 2019.

In a statement on Tuesday, Alamos Gold claims Turkey has violated bilateral investment treaties.

“Alamos began investing in Turkey in 2010, warmly welcomed by the Turkish government through its foreign investment office,” CEO John A. McCluskey said.

“After 10 years of effort and over $250 million invested by the company we have been shut down for over 18 months in a manner without precedent in Turkey, despite having received all the permits required to build and operate a mine.”

Alamos Gold says they have already contributed $20 million in royalties to the Turkish government, created hundreds of jobs and put $25 million towards community and social initiatives.

“The company has worked in Turkey to the highest standard of conduct with respect to social and environmental best practices. Despite this effort, the Turkish government has given us no indication that relief is in sight, nor will they engage with us in an effort to renew the outstanding licenses.”

The Kirazlı Gold Mine has been the target of opposition activists despite the project passing and extensive environmental review and public consultations. While Kirazlı has been stalled, the Turkish government recently approved another gold mine in the same area without having gone through the complete consultation process or acquiring the necessary environmental permits.

While activists claim the mine damages a protected national park, residents of the communities near the mine say this false information spread to scare the public.

If the mine is not allowed to proceed, the company says it will incur a loss of $215 million in the second quarter of this year.

Poll: Less Than One-Third Aware of Durham Probe

Less than one-third of Americans are aware of a special investigation into the origins of the special counsel inquiry into accusations former President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign conspired with Russia, but of those who do know, 83% said the Obama administration knew or tried to influence it.

The findings were revealed in a TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP) poll on Tuesday, which also discovered that of those aware of the so-called Durham probe, 57% think its is very likely the Obama administration was aware and tried to affect it.

John Durham was appointed in October by then-Attorney General William Barr as a special counsel to investigate the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

The poll queried 484 adults between March 31 and April 3 about the investigation by former U.S. District Attorney for Connecticut Durham, who resigned in February from the post to continue his investigation into the intelligence agency-Department of Justice-FBI probe probe known as “Crossfire Hurricane.”

Crossfire Hurricane was established in the final months of the 2016 presidential campaign as a counterintelligence operation to investigate alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian government operatives. It led to the special counsel investigation by Robert Mueller, who found no evidence of a conspiracy or collusion.

Republicans have characterized the early stages of the investigation as a spying operation on the Trump campaign, and in April 2019, then Attorney General William Barr appointed Durham to investigate the claims.

The Durham investigation already has produced one guilty plea of a Department of Justice lawyer who admitted to intentionally falsifying a document used to obtain a surveillance warrant in Crossfire Hurricane.

The TIPP poll discovered that of those aware of Durham’s investigation, 73% believe President Joe Biden – who reportedly attended a January 2017 meeting with intelligence officials, President Barack Obama and other key administration officials about the matter – should be questioned by Durham.

That included 86% of self-identified conservatives, 56% of moderates and 62% of liberals.

It also found that 94% of conservatives believe the Obama White House either very or somewhat likely tried to influence Crossfire Hurricane, 71% of moderates and even 68% of liberals.

Awareness of the Durham investigation, probably due to its considerably less new media coverage, drew even less than half of conservatives, 45%, 26% of moderates and 30% of liberals.

Saskatchewan church receives $14,000 in lockdown fines and charges for holding services

Much Like Edmonton's GraceLife Church, Saskatoon's Fellowship Baptist Church, led by Pastor Steve Flippin, has been ignoring public health restrictions on congregation capacity. That's not to say that Fellowship Baptist doesn't take the pandemic seriously — hey, have hand sanitizer and masks if you want to use them — but the congregation has decided that they will not turn away anyone who wants to worship with them.

For Fellowship Baptist's act of obedience to God over government, the church as an entity has received a $14,000 fine from the Saskatchewan government, as well as several masking tickets.

And, shockingly, the church's elders received criminal obstruction charges for refusing to let health officials and police enter the church during services, even though disrupting a worship service contravenes Section 176 of the Canadian Criminal Code. The elders were upholding the law, not breaking it. The health officials were the criminals.

But this story gets even crazier. Pastor Steve and his wife are foster parents, and in the middle of March, Steve's wife and foster child came down with COVID-19. The whole house immediately quarantined, including Steve. His quarantine was up just before Easter weekend, which meant that Steve would be able to preach.

That's when public health officials tried to arbitrarily extend Steve's quarantine — and only Steve's quarantine — to extend beyond the Easter weekend. Health officials were trying to keep this Christian pastor off the pulpit on Christianity's most important day.

However, public health rules haven't stopped Pastor Steve and his congregation yet, and this fake extension of the quarantine was no different.

Rebel News sent videographer Sydney Fizzard out to Saskatoon to talk to Pastor Steve as he and his congregation prepared to hold a Holy Saturday service in a local park. When the interview was conducted, Steve was risking an expensive quarantine violation ticket for preaching to the open air church.

A New Democrat MP wants an inquiry into public officials’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, calling for those guilty of what he called “criminal negligence” to be held to account.

First-term NDP MP Matthew Green said during a conversation on The Serfs, a left-wing show on the streaming platform Twitch. Green was asked specifically about Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s pandemic response.

“There is a criminal negligence in the way that political decisions have superseded evidence-based public health policy in Canada,” he said.

“People are absolutely going to die based on these horrific decisions. I would state that seeing the numbers that I’ve seen, being in this close proximity to the misery that COVID has caused. As an elected official, I am committed to exploring ways in which public officials would be held accountable in a post-mortem of this pandemic.”

Green likened the situation to the Walkerton E. coli outbreak in 2000, in which six deaths and more than two thousand cases triggered an inquiry that resulted in convictions and sentences for two public officials.

Green pointed to several failures as examples of places where there could have been negligence, specifically mentioning long-term care homes, where 69% of all COVID-19 fatalities occurred, according to data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

The figure is significantly larger than the international average of 41%, raising questions about how Canada could have mitigated the severity of the deaths for those most vulnerable to the virus.

“All of the inquiries have said staff are important, having a medical director on the floor is important, having everybody understand what infection prevention and control precautions are and to use them uniformly, all those things are considered really important,” CIHI director of health system analysis told CBC News.

The Conservative Party of Canada has already proposed a potential public inquiry into the pandemic response.

Earlier in April, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole issued calls for an investigation into the federal government’s handling of the crisis.

“A public inquiry will ensure that all lessons learned from the crisis are publicly aired and improvements can immediately be adopted,” O’Toole said. “Canada must be better prepared for future threats. We cannot afford to once again fail to keep Canadians safe,” said O’Toole.

Doug Ford wrung out by US media for disastrous COVID-19 restrictions

US media outlets railed against Ontario Premier Doug Ford this week after the embattled Canadian politician faced public outrage over his heavy handed COVID-19 approach.

Publications like the Washington Post, CNN and even Alex Jones’ controversial daily program InfoWars jumped on the opportunity to criticize the premier.

In a scathing opinion article published in the Washington Post titled “Doug Ford must resign,” University of Ottawa political theorist David Moscrop delved into Ford’s botched police powers and how it impacted the vulnerable.

“Gaunt and drawn on Friday, he announced that his government was empowering police to arbitrarily stop anyone who is outside their residence during the province’s lockdown, giving law enforcement extraordinary powers that threaten civil rights, especially among vulnerable and racialized populations,” wrote Moscrop.

“Ford was never fit to be premier of Ontario. The pandemic didn’t reveal that; it just bathed it in the garish light of emergency,” Moscrop continued.

Prominent Ford government critic and Ontario physician Dr. Michael Warner also made an appearance on CNN to highlight the current situation in the province.

“A lot of healthcare workers are beyond angry, we’re just really forlorn that we’re in the situation that we find ourselves in,” said Warner during an April 18 appearance on the network.

Meanwhile, InfoWars host Alex Jones accused the premier of being “guilty” and “declaring martial law.”

“He’s like a giant demonic ferret. He looks like an evil hedgehog who just ate your freedoms. Well guess what? He just declared martial law, we played the clip earlier,” said Jones while an image of the premier appeared on the screen.

Premier Ford recently backtracked on public health measures which included giving the province’s law enforcement additional powers to stop and question people for simply being outside of their residences.

Soon after Ford announced the new spat of emergency measures, police forces across the province came out in opposition to the move saying that they do not intend to randomly stop pedestrians or vehicles as the Ontario government had asked.

Family Of Italian Woman Whose Death Linked To AstraZeneca Jab Launches Legal Action

While American lawmakers have taken steps to shield US pharma companies from any legal blowback caused by COVID vaccines, drugmakers in Europe haven't been so lucky. And after widespread skepticism of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, what was supposed to be the workhorse of the global immunization rollout before reports of rare and deadly blood clots inspired regulators around the comment to either halt the jab, or impose limits on its use.

And now, all these issues will be dredged up again as AstraZeneca is hit by lawsuits filed by the families of those who died from rare blood clots potentially linkted to the vaccine. In what appears to be a first, Sky News reported Monday that the family of an Italian woman who died from a case of vaccine-linked clots are suing to officially establish whether the jab was at fault in her death.

The case involves 55-year-old Augusta Turiaco from Messina, Sicily, who received her COVID jab on March 11, but started experiencing severe symptoms a few days later.

Despite feeling unwell afterwards, Turiaco returned to work, posting two days later to reassure worried friends saying: "Andra tutto bene" - or "everything will be alright" in Italian.

She fell into a coma on March 28 March and died on March 30 March, 19 days after having the AstraZeneca injection. Her conditions also found in others who died after having the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Her brother Nunzio Turiaco told Sky News: "For us it was a bolt from the blue that such a clinical picture occurred.

"My sister was in excellent health, she did not take drugs because she did not have diseases such as hypertension or diabetes."

Medical records seen by Sky News showed blood clots had formed in Ms Turiaco's body, including in her brain.

Her platelet levels had fallen.

According to Sky, the family's suit is one of several legal actions in Europe directed at AstraZeneca over the clotting issue.

The legal proceedings launched by the family are just one of a number of cases across Europe being mounted against AstraZeneca.

The family's lawyer, Daniela Agnello, told Sky News: "The excellent state of health of Ms Turiaco, the absence of previous pathologies, the very short period of time between the administration of the vaccine, the appearance of the first illnesses and the very serious clinical picture and then death.

Messy clinical trial data, manufacturing issues and - of course - the rare blood clots that have resulted in more than a dozen deaths have all damaged the AstraZeneca jab’s reputation, experts say.

Despite this, both the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organization consistently stressed that the vaccine’s benefits far outweigh the risk of any side effects and advised against any restrictions to its use. Still, national health authorities have moved ahead with their own risk and benefit assessments, which, remarkably, have drawn dissimilar conclusions – ranging from limiting the vaccine’s use in different age groups to suspending its usage and even ditching it entirely.

Whether the vaccine will ever be approved for use in the US remains unclear; although AstraZeneca has said it has applied for review by regulators in the US, reports cited uneasiness with the vaccine's safety record, which include a halt to a Phase 3 trial in the US for a month last fall.

The woman just wondered away from me in a state of disbelief and dissociation. Another woman in her 60s was in ear shot and she said thats not true. The vaccines are safe and they work.

Vivekh, a comedian and the Tamilnadu state’s ambassador for public health messages, had pushed his followers to get the jab, touting it as “safe and effective.” He then got jabbed himself, only to die of cardiac arrest less than 24 hours later.

The 59-year-old was said to be in critical condition at a Chennai hospital after being brought in unconscious around 11am the day after his injection. At the facility, Vivekh underwent a coronary angiogram followed by angioplasty.

A medical bulletin explained that Vivekh was on ECMO support, which pumps and oxygenates blood outside the body. The next morning at around 4:35am, Vivekh died.

One of Vivekh’s main tasks was to convince people in his state to abide by government health and medical intervention guidelines. In this case, Vivekh was tasked with convincing people who live in the region to get injected in order to “stop the spread.”

Vivekh was given India’s Covaxin injection at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital in Chennai. He told others to come there as well to get injected.

Vivekh’s injection was public. He filmed it during an event with television channels carrying video and photographs of the shot being put into his arm. Vivekh also uploaded video of his injection to his Twitter account.

Since Vivekh quickly died following the injection, many began to question whether the shot was to blame. Government authorities, however, insist that the two events are completely unrelated.

According to officials, Vivekh suffered from a mysterious bout of acute coronary syndrome and cardiogenic shock. He experienced 100 percent blockage of a blood vessel, though the government says this had nothing to do with the injection.

GreatGameIndia investigated not only Vivekh’s death but also many other deaths in the area from similar causes. The common link between them all is that the now-deceased had previously been vaccinated with Covaxin.

Coronavirus jabs are deadly – why would anyone take them?

The Covaxin jab, as we earlier reported, had already been linked to “neurological and psychological breakdown.”

At least one recipient who participated in a clinical trial claims the injection caused him to develop acute neuro-encephalopathy, leaving him “totally disoriented” to the point that he could no longer identify or recognize certain family members and relatives.

This individual tried to sue the center that administered the vaccine to him, only to have the facility sue him back. The Indian government, meanwhile, insists that Covaxin is “110 percent safe” and would never hurt anyone.

“After having many links to case after case of people dying soon after being vaccinated, it disgusts me to know that BIG PHARMA still denies a link between the two,” wrote one GreatGameIndia commenter. “Anyone who allows BIG PHARMA to inject them with their poisons is foolish.”

This same commenter went on to note that all vaccines contain some combination of mercury (Thimerosal), aluminum, and / or formaldehyde, which makes them all risky and dangerous. What makes these latest jabs for the Chinese virus even worse is that some of them contain gene-altering messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.

Gain-of-function research: COVID-19 has prompted renewed questioning about a long-debated branch of virology that, around 2012, scientists benignly rebranded as “gain-of-function” (GOF) research. GOF experiments seek to generate viruses “with properties that do not exist in nature” or, stated another way, “alter a pathogen to make it more transmissible or deadly.” One of the leading proponents of GOF work is Dr. Ralph Baric at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC), a “legend in coronavirology” and “trailblazer of synthetic genomic manipulation techniques” who specializes in engineering lethal coronaviruses from “mail-order DNA.” Baric and other GOF enthusiasts argue that this type of viral tinkering is “critical to the development of broad-based vaccines and therapeutics,” but critics, such as Dr. Thomas Inglesby (director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security), dispute this putative benefit.
