Solution of passage 4[edit]

Method(s) : Unknown.

No solution to Part 4 has been publicly acknowledged by either Jim Sanborn or Ed Scheidt to be correct.

Clues given[edit]

When commenting in 2006 about his error in passage 2, Sanborn said that the answers to the first three passages contain clues to the fourth passage.[18] In November 2010, Sanborn released a clue, publicly stating that "NYPVTT", the 64th-69th letters in passage four, become "BERLIN" after decryption.[19][20]

Sanborn gave The New York Times another clue in November 2014: the letters "MZFPK", the 70th-74th letters in passage four, become "CLOCK" after decryption.[21] The 74th letter is K in both the plaintext and ciphertext, meaning that it is possible for a character to encrypt to itself. This means it does not have a weakness, where a character could never be encrypted as itself, that was known to be inherent in the German Enigma machine. It is believed that the "BERLINCLOCK" plaintext may be a direct reference to the Berlin Clock[citation needed].

Sanborn further stated that in order to solve passage 4, "You'd better delve into that particular clock," but added, "There are several really interesting clocks in Berlin."

https://independentcafe.org/new-kryptos-findings/

There is an article that was published on November 20, 2014 in the New York Times by John Schwartz. The article is about an interview with Mr. James Sanborn (Jim) the creator of Kryptos. I want you to read the following excerpt from that article;

“But still, no solution. So Mr. Sanborn, now 69, said, ‘I figured maybe I should be a little more specific.’

He was designing the project, he further explained, when the Berlin Wall fell, and ‘there’s no doubt I was influenced by all that was going on simultaneously.’ With the 25th anniversary of the fall of the wall, he said, he thought it was worth returning to the topic.”

The keyword from that article is “simultaneously.” Jim was designing Kryptos when the Berlin Wall fell, and he was influenced by all that was going on simultaneously. What simultaneously occurred when the Berlin Wall fell? I’ll answer that in a minute.

First off, back in 2014 I believe an assumption was created when Jim released the clue BERLIN that many of you have come to believe as fact, and the assumption is that BERLINCLOCK means “Berlin Clock” as in the “Berlin Set Theory Clock.” Well, I am here to tell you that is more than likely incorrect.

I have identified the real clock. It is the clock we now refer to as the “BERLIN PEACE CLOCK,” which was unveiled at an art show in Berlin on November 9, 1989 at 6.57PM. When the clock’s pendulum was dropped at 6.57PM, an official from East Germany announced that the Berlin Wall will be taken down. Both separate events occurred simultaneously. Now get this, the inscription on the clock says; “Time Bursts All Walls Asunder”. Asunder meaning “apart.” Now if that story is not deserving enough to be the Kryptos BERLIN CLOCK, than I have no idea what else it could be.

Now check this out

The K2 grid coordinates are:

  1. 38 57 6.5N, 77 8 44W

  2. 3857|6.57|7844

6.57: the time that the pendulum was dropped, and the time it was announced that the wall was coming down.

7844: I found that the distance in kilometers from DC to Moscow according to one source is 7,844km

3857: I’m not sure what this means, but I do know that on 3/8/57 the Soviets tested a nuke.

They should; it's buried out there somewhere. X

Who knows the exact location?

Only WW.

part 3

Slowly, desparat[e]ly slowly, the remains of the passage debris that encumbered the lower part of the doorway was removed.

With trembling hands, I made a tiny breach in the upper-left-hand corner, and then, widening the hole a little, I inserted the candle and peered in.

The hot air escaping from the chamber caused the flame to flicker, but presently details of the room within emerged from the mist.

"Can you see anything?"
