Hard to support that with the bible. Easy to support in the collective thinking of the church. Almost like the biblical story was so awful in its description of what would happen to humanity that the only way it could be sold to the masses is to tell them that they would be the only ones who did not have experience the devastation planned for the planet.
If the rapture is not true, do you still think the story told in Daniel, Mathew and Revelations is a great thing to put your collective thoughts and feelings towards bringing into existence? Seems to me like if more Christians prayed that what happened to Jonah happens to the KJB explanation of the end times, they would be closer to following Jesus's teaching than the current hope for the rest of humanity to suffer horribly.
