In the fight against COVID-19, Joe Biden seems to be prioritizing hollow symbolic gestures over policies with a measurable impact on the welfare and health of American citizens.

Biden signed a memo banning federal agencies from referring to the coronavirus by terms related to its geographic origin, such as China or Wuhan virus.

While no direct mention of President Trump is made, the memo does specifically blame “the actions of political leaders” for “furthering xenophobic sentiments” against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders. This is a clear allusion to Biden’s previous attempts to shift focus away from the Trump administration’s achievements in fighting the pandemic towards concerns over political correctness.

“Labelling COVID-19 a foreign virus does not displace accountability for the misjudgments that have been made thus far by the Trump administration. Let me be crystal clear. The coronavirus does not have a political affiliation,” Biden stated. “It will not discriminate based on national origin, race, gender, or zip code.”

Among the sparse number of specific measures dictated by the memo is instructing federal agencies to review the use of these terms in existing policy directives or government publications. This, despite a recent review by CBS News finding “no specific reference to China virus” in any COVID-19 related executive orders issued by President Trump.

Critics pointed out the memo seems to be politically motivated, targeting specific terms employed by President Trump without making any mention of hate crimes against other communities, some of which may have been the victim of hatred stoked by Democrat politicians and left-wing activists.

Hunter Biden Hides From Journalist Asking About 'The Big Guy'

Investigative journalist Phelim McAleer, a documentary filmmaker who exposed abortionist Kermit Gosnell and who is producing the film My Son Hunter, traveled to the Venice, Calif., home of President Joe Biden’s surviving son, Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden has done multiple softball interviews regarding his memoir. McAleer attempted to ask Hunter Biden questions about his emails, but the president’s son avoided him.

“Hunter Biden refuses to answer any serious questions about the allegations against him,” McAleer said in a press release on Monday. “Instead, he relies on softball questions and coverups from the mainstream media to carry his lies and the ridiculous claim that he doesn’t remember if the laptop is his.”

“It’s funny that someone who claims to forget everything about his scandals has the ability to write a memoir. Hunter may not have answered us today but we will be back and we will have our questions answered,” McAleer added.

Earlier this month, McAleer traveled to Hunter Biden’s mansion in Venice (a suburb of Los Angeles) and rang the doorbell. After a voice that appears to have been Hunter’s answered over the intercom, a Secret Service agent jumped out of a car parked near the mansion and told McAleer that the president’s son would not be taking any of his questions, even though Hunter was scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live that very night.

“I’m here to ask him some questions,” McAleer told the Secret Service agent. “Who are you sir?”

“I work with Secret Service. We’re not gonna be taking any questions,” the agent replied.

“He’s not gonna take any questions. He’s not going to come down, so… you can stay as long as you want, but he’s not gonna come down and answer any questions,” the agent repeated.

In an effort to skirt Secret Service and get Hunter Biden’s attention, McAleer took a boat on the Venice canals that run alongside Hunter’s mansion.

The journalist was referring to emails from a laptop that appears to have belonged to Hunter Biden and testimony from former Hunter Biden associate Tony Bobulinski suggesting that Joe Biden himself took a cut of his son’s lucrative deals with foreign governments, including China. A May 13, 2017, email discussing the allocation of equity in a Chinese deal mentioned that “10 percent [was to be] held by H for the Bug Guy.”

“In that email, there’s no question that H stands for Hunter, Big Guy for his father, Joe Biden, and Jim for Jim Biden,” Bobulinski explained.

“On numerous occasions, it was made clear to me that Joe Biden’s involvement was not to be mentioned in writing but only face-to-face. In fact, I was advised by Gillier and Walker that Hunter and Jim Biden were paranoid about keeping Joe Biden’s involvement secret,” the former associate recalled.

The emails surfaced and Bobulinski spoke out during the 2020 election, but Big Tech and the legacy media worked to bury the story, falsely claiming it was misinformation. Studies after the election suggested that if Biden voters had known about the story, they would not have voted for Joe Biden and Donald Trump would likely have won the 2020 election.

The military’s inspector general system must be reformed, former DoD IG says

When Spc. Vanessa Guillen’s remains were found near her Fort Hood, Texas, duty station, after her family had been saying for months that she’d be sexually harassed by a member of her unit, the Army sent an inspector general to the post to audit its Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Prevention program. He gave it the all-clear.

Five months later, an independent panel dropped a bombshell report detailing a toxic command climate and environment of sexual harassment and assault at Fort Hood, specifically calling out that Army Forces Command IG team, who didn’t investigate Guillen’s 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

“Excuse me, but he failed. He absolutely failed in his job,” Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said Thursday, presiding over a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee’s personnel subcommittee. “He talked to very few people. He came back with the wrong assessment. He was criticized by this independent review committee, and he’s still in his position.”

She was talking to the Army Department’s lead IG, Lt. Gen. Leslie Smith, after he informed her that the FORSCOM IG in question is still in his position.

“I think that was investigative malpractice. And for that individual to still be in that position — I’m not suggesting he be fired, but he shouldn’t be in that position. And that’s part of the problem,” Speier said. “We need to professionalize these component IGs and make them independent or they’re not going to provide the value that we expect from them.”

In those cases, a local inspector general will look into accusations of retaliation, but as Heddell pointed out, those investigators are working within the chain of command accused in the first place.

Reading from Army Regulation 20-1, the policy that governs IG activities, Heddell noted that it describes an IG as beholden to his or her commander, “the conscience of their commanders.”

They must understand the commander’s personality and serve as a confidante to the commander, it continues.

“The regulation appears to tacitly imply a reverence for the commander that is inappropriate for an inspector general,” Heddell said.

The entire system needs an overhaul he said, turning it both into a profession and its own chain of command.

Portuguese Authorities Arrest Members of Montenegrin Mafia

Authorities in Portugal said on Saturday that they have arrested two alleged members of a Montenegrin criminal organization who are sought in the Balkans for extortion and drug trafficking.

Montenegrin law enforcement issued an international arrest warrant for the two suspects in 2017. Both men, reportedly father and son, are now in preventive detention and await their extradition to Montenegro, Portuguese officials said in a statement.

During the arrest, police seized illegal firearms, false identifications and a vehicle stolen in July 2019.

Local newspaper Jornal de Noticias identified the two men as Igor and Vladimir Božović and said the two suspects allegedly belong to the Montenegrin Kavač gang which is involved in extortion, trafficking and money laundering.

Local media reported that the two men arrived in Portugal in March last year and lived a discrete life, rarely leaving their property.

The criminal organization has been fighting a bloody war with another clan from Montenegro called “Škaljari” over control of cocaine smuggling from South America.

Initially part of the same gang, the Kavač and Škaljari clans split in 2014 after a bad drug deal. Their rivalry has escalated ever since: press reports suggest that more than 40 people have been likely killed in clashes connected to the gang conflict since 2015.

The clan war’s trail of blood stretches across the Balkans and beyond, with murders in Spain, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Greece, an OCCRP investigation revealed last year.

Planned Parenthood’s $80 Million Payday Sparks Call for Probe

Lawmakers accuse abortion giant of inappropriately taking small-business relief

Planned Parenthood improperly took tens of millions of dollars' worth of government loans intended to help businesses during the coronavirus, according to a group of Republicans who want to see the organization investigated.

House lawmakers accused Planned Parenthood of unlawfully using the Small Business Administration's COVID-response program, the Paycheck Protection Program, to obtain millions of dollars in taxpayer funds. Reps. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R., Mo.) and Byron Donalds (R., Fla.) wrote that the Committee on Small Business is calling for the Department of the Treasury and the Small Business Administration to investigate the organization's actions.

"We insist that the SBA and the Department of the Treasury investigate 1.) the distribution of these loans in violation of the relevant affiliation rules and 2.) whether Planned Parenthood violated the law," the lawmakers wrote in a Friday letter.

In May 2020, the multibillion-dollar organization came under fire for taking $80 million in small-business assistance loans. Planned Parenthood said that its local affiliates qualified for the assistance. The Small Business Administration, however, demanded the money be returned, saying local branches were too closely associated with the national organization to be considered independent. Now, GOP lawmakers are looking for answers as to whether or not the organization broke the law.

"At a time where small-business owners are working tirelessly to open their doors and contribute to their communities again, we must ensure the SBA is using relief funding for its intended purpose—assisting our nation’s hardest hit small businesses, not America’s most tragic abortion provider," Luetkemeyer told the Free Beacon. "The SBA must immediately investigate Planned Parenthood’s blatant violation of the rules to ensure guidelines are followed and American taxpayer dollars are protected."

The letter comes as President Joe Biden's Department of Health and Human Services threw open the door for taxpayer-funded abortion. The department unveiled new rules concerning Title X family planning funding that reversed Trump administration policies limiting taxpayer funding for abortion providers. Donalds said taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize abortion providers.

"Planned Parenthood—the nation's most notorious abortion provider that has an estimated $2 billion in assets and over 16,000 employees—receiving taxpayer dollars through the Paycheck Protection Program is extremely concerning," he said.

Planned Parenthood defended the loans and accused congressional Republicans of focusing on "baseless political attacks" and targeting centers that "provide essential health care."

"Like many other local nonprofits and health care providers, the independent Planned Parenthood 501(c)(3) organizations who were awarded PPP loans met the eligibility requirements established by both Congress and the Small Business Administration," said Jacqueline Ayers, vice president of government relations and public policy for Planned Parenthood for America.

The Trump administration made changes to the Title X family planning program designed to limit the amount of taxpayer funding for abortion providers. Planned Parenthood withdrew from the program rather than comply with limitations on abortion referrals, forgoing approximately $60 million in annual federal funding.

The HHS rules are expected to take months to implement but will effectively return Title X funding policy to its pre-Trump status. Senate Republicans ripped Biden for allowing the abortion industry to profit from his presidency.

"President Biden took millions from the abortion industry during his campaign," Sen. Steve Daines (R., Mont.) said. "Now, Planned Parenthood is cashing in."

US Court Sentences Organizer of Notorious Hacking Group to 10 Years

A U.S. federal judge sentenced on Friday the former systems administrator of the notorious hacking group FIN7 to 10 years in prison for his role in organizing a criminal network that stole more than a billion dollars from customers whose credit card information was stolen from point-of-sale terminals, according to a Department of Justice (DOJ) press release.

Ukrainian national Fedir Hladyr, 35, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in the Western District of Washington to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit computer hacking, according to the press release.

“The defendant and his conspirators compromised millions of financial accounts and caused over a billion dollars in losses to Americans and costs to the U.S. economy,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid said in a statement.

The hacking group FIN7 targeted the hospitality sector, using malware to obtain information from over 20 million card transactions from more than 6,500 point-of-sale terminals at over 3,600 U.S. locations, according to the Justice Department.

These attacks compromised computer networks of large chain restaurants like Chipotle Mexican Grill, Jason’s Deli, Chili’s, Arby’s and Red Robin, as well as casinos and other hospitality companies.

The hackers used phishing emails combined with phone calls to create the appearance of a legitimate business contact, enticing the recipient to eventually open an attachment which would unleash a modified version of the Carbanak malware to steal credit card information from the target’s customers. FIN7 then either used the information, or sold it to a third party through online dark markets.

The DoJ emphasized the sophistication of the criminal organization, noting that Hladyr played a key role in organizing and managing people at various levels of FIN7.

“This criminal organization had more than 70 people organized into business units and teams. Some were hackers, others developed the malware installed on computers, and still others crafted the malicious emails that duped victims into infecting their company systems,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Tessa M. Gorman of the Western District of Washington.

“This defendant worked at the intersection of all these activities and thus bears heavy responsibility for billions in damage caused to companies and individual consumers.”

Hladyr began his work with FIN7 when he started working for a cyber security company called Combi Security which he later discovered was a front for the hacking group.

'You're Not The Boss Of Me': Xi Urges Resistance To US 'Setting The Rules For The World'

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday issued some aggressive remarks clearly aimed at Washington, but without naming the United States directly, in his keynote address at the Boao Forum on Asia. His emphasis was to warn against the "unilateralism of a few countries" who are prone to "bossing others around" - which can be resisted via greater global economic integration and avoiding the temptation of decoupling.

He spelled out that that countries that "boss others around or meddle in others’ internal affairs would not get any support," and that efforts to "erect walls" or "decouple" stand against market principles. This veiled swipe against the US included the words: "openness and integration is an unstoppable trend, any effort to build barriers and decouple works against economic and market principles, and would only harm others without benefiting oneself."

While there's plenty of regional and border countries, not to mention African populations, that would strongly disagree, XI asserted that "China will never seek hegemony, expansion, or a sphere of influence no matter how strong it may grow," according to a state media transcript.

The remarks came soon on the heels of the White House receiving Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday, where China topped the agenda in Biden's first face-to-face meeting with a foreign leader since taking office. Their joint statement focused on China's actions that "are inconsistent with the international rules-based order" and impact "peace and prosperity" in the region, while highlighting human rights abuses and anti-democratic policies in Hong Kong, Xinjiang region, and Taiwan.

The hugely controversial US-Japan statement loomed large in the backdrop to Xi's words:

"The world wants justice, not hegemony," Xi said in remarks broadcast to the forum.

"A big country should look like a big country by showing that it is shouldering more responsibility," he said.

While Xi did not identify any country in his remarks, Chinese officials have in recent times referred to U.S. "hegemony" in public criticisms of Washington's global projection of power in trade and geopolitics.

By contrast, "true multilateralism" will serve to make the world "more fair and equitable," he said.

Bloomberg broadly observed of the speech that it was "dominated by sweeping globalist comments as Xi lauded a system with the WTO and United Nations at its center. He warned we shouldn’t let one country set the rules for all and big countries need to behave appropriately. While he has made similar points before, it’s noteworthy that he hammered the message home. Markets were little changed, with stocks erasing initial losses."

China's president also offered that the global pandemic should negate this vision of unilateralism, saying it's become clear the world must reject the "cold-war and zero-sum mentality" and oppose a new "cold war" which hinders common cooperation and progress against the most pressing matters.

And this raises what is perhaps the only 'bright spot' in current relations given the new 'common interest' on climate change. US climate envoy John Kerry last week met with his Chinese counterpart in Shanghai for what is the first high-level trip to China by a top Biden administration official.

Netanyahu: Israel readying for new vaccination drive in 6 months, including kids

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday said Israel was readying for another coronavirus vaccination campaign in six months that will include children, after inking new deals with Pfizer and Moderna to buy millions more doses.

He also warned of possible new coronavirus variants or even “a new virus,” saying there would be no further COVID-19 resurgence if there are no such “surprises.”

Netanyahu’s forecast appeared to based on remarks by Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, who said last week that he believes a third dose of the company’s vaccine will be necessary “somewhere between 6-12 months” after getting the first two doses, and annually after that. Pfizer has said the vaccine it developed with Germany’s BioNTech remains 91% effective after 6 months.

Former Virginia Tech Soccer Player SUES Coach, Claims She Was Forced Off Team for Refusing to Kneel Before Games

A former Virginia Tech University women’s soccer player Kiersten Hening has filed a federal lawsuit against Hokies women’s soccer coach Chugger Adair, alleging that after she refused to kneel before games this season, the coach engaged in a “campaign of abuse and retaliation” that pushed her to leave the program.

“Hening’s stance was costly – too costly,” the lawsuit, filed March 3, reads. “Her coach dislikes Hening’s political views. Because she refused to kneel, he benched her, subjected her to repeated verbal abuse, and forced her off the team.”

Adiar has been at the helm of the Hokies soccer program for 10 seasons, and is the programs all-time winningest coach. He declined to comment and is being represented by university attorneys.

Associate vice president of university relations Mark Owczarski said the school is declining comment at this time.

The suit seeks a ruling that orders Adair to “undergo First Amendment training,” and to have Hening reinstated on the team, in addition to unspecified monetary awards for compensatory, punitive and nominal damages and costs associated with her case.

Hening’s attorneys did not respond to phone calls or emails requesting interviews Sunday and Monday.

The lawsuit alleges that, during halftime of the Sept. 12 season opener at UVA, “Coach Adair berated Hening for her stance. He singled her out and verbally attacked her, pointing a finger directly in her face. He denounced Hening for ‘bitching and moaning,’ for being selfish and individualistic, and for ‘doing her own thing.’”

According to the lawsuit, Adair targeted Hening instead of the other player who remained standing because that player was on scholarship and her parents had a previous phone conversation with Adair and had “warned him not to retaliate against their daughter for opposing (Black Lives Matter).”

Hening’s suit claims Adair continued to single her out and unfairly criticize her performance before and during the team’s next match against Clemson on Sept. 17, a game Hening – who started 37 matches her first two seasons at Tech – did not start. She did not start the team’s third match of the season, against North Carolina on Sept. 20, either. After that game, she left the program.

Maxine Waters Condoned 1992 LA Riots, Defended Some Looting, Old Footage Shows

Thousands of National Guard troops and police from multiple states have been deployed in Minnesota as the state braces for the jury’s verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer accused of killing George Floyd in May 2020. The nationwide protests which followed Floyd’s death caused 25 people to lose their lives.

Maxine Waters, the Democratic congresswoman from California facing growing pressure over her comments urging Black Lives Matter protesters to “get more confrontational” if Derek Chauvin is not convicted for “murder,” also partly defended the 1992 riots which swept across Los Angeles and killed 63 people in the aftermath of the acquittal of the police officers who beat Rodney King, unearthed footage reveals.

“There are scores of injuries, and still anger and frustration, and people who plan on staying on the streets, and expressing their outrage and anger in any way they deem necessary. There are those who would like for me and others and all of us to tell people to go inside, to be peaceful, that they have to accept the verdict. I accept the responsibility of asking people not to endanger their lives. I am not asking people not to be angry,” Waters said in a C-Span video dated 30 April, 1992, day two of the six days of riots which rocked the West Coast city that year.

“I am angry and I have a right to that anger. And the people out there have a right to that anger. We don’t want anybody killed. None of us believe in violence. But there are some angry people in America,” Waters added.

She went on to call violent LA rioters’ motivations “somewhat understandable, if not acceptable,” and to defend some looting as a matter of urgency.

“There were mothers who took this as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes. Maybe they shouldn’t have done it, but the atmosphere was such that they did it. They are not crooks,” she said in a separate interview with local media at the time.

“One lady said her children didn’t have any shoes. She just saw those shoes there, a chance for all of her children to have new shoes. Goddamn it! It was such a tear-jerker. I might have gone in and taken them for her myself,” Waters said.

Waters’ decades-old comments carry new meaning amid the firestorm of controversy she has faced over her remarks Saturday urging protesters in Brooklyn Center – the city where 20-year-old African American Daunte Wright was gunned down by a white police officer last week, to ignore curfew, to “stay on the streets” and “get more confrontational” if Derek Chauvin, the former officer accused of killing George Floyd, is not convicted.

Waters’ comments prompted some Republicans to accuse her of inciting riots and violence in Minnesota, and demanding that she resign or be expelled from Congress.

Democratic House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi defended Waters on Monday, saying the congresswoman “absolutely” did not incite any violence, and drawing parallels between Waters’ call for confrontation and the civil rights movement.

Judge Peter Cahill, the judge presiding over the Chauvin trial, blasted Waters and other officials for their incessant commenting on the trial, saying he “wished” officials would “stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that’s disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch and our function,” and calling their failure to do so “abhorrent.” Waters’ remarks, he said, could serve as potential grounds for an appeal by Chauvin’s defence if he is convicted.

Dozens of passengers test positive for COVID on flight from India to Hong Kong

At least 53 passengers on an Indian airline flight from Delhi to Hong Kong this month reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 – after everyone aboard had tested negative within 72 hours prior to departure.

The Vistara airline plane — which landed in Hong Kong on April 4 — can hold 188 passengers, but officials in the territory did not announce Tuesday how many were aboard the buggy flight, Agence France-Presse reported.

News about the large number of infections comes as the Chinese financial hub introduced an emergency ban on arrivals from India amid a new surge in cases.

Hong Kong has regularly recorded fewer daily cases than the total number detected on the Indian flight since it brought a fourth wave under control in January.

The positive results emerged while the arriving passengers were undergoing Hong Kong’s mandatory three-week quarantine period, one of the strictest entry requirments in the world.

All travelers flying in from 25 places deemed high-risk including the UK, South Africa, India, Pakistan and the US also must provide a negative test within the 72 hours prior to departure.

Several cases also have been detected on flights arriving in Hong Kong from Mumbai, officials said.

Meanwhile, local authorities on Monday imposed a two-week ban on all flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines, categorizing the countries as “extremely high risk” after detecting the N501Y strain for the first time.

On Monday night, India’s capital, New Delhi, went into lockdown as officials struggle to bring the surging cases under control.

Justice department files complaint against unproven Covid treatment promoted by Steve Bannon

The Department of Justice has filed a civil complaint against the makers of an alleged treatment for Covid-19 promoted by Steve Bannon on his website.

Donald Trump’s former adviser appears in ads on his website for “The War Room Defense Pack”, which pairs vitamin D3 and zinc pills under the slogans: “You can’t fight if you’re sick!” and “The ultimate defense against sickness.”

Manufactured by Wellness Warrior, the tablets come with a free copy of War Room’s Defense Guide, emblazoned with a photo of Mr Bannon, and his War Room: Pandemic podcast logo featuring the biohazard symbol, and the Chinese flag.

Named as defendants in the justice department’s case are Eric Anthony Nepute and Quickwork LLC, doing business as Wellness Warrior. Mr Bannon is not named in the suit.

The Independent has contacted Wellness Warrior for comment and attempts were made to reach Mr Bannon.

A disclaimer at the foot of the website advertising the partnership with the podcast reads: “These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.”

This is the first enforcement action alleging violations of the Covid-19 Consumer Protection Act, passed in December 2020.

The act makes it unlawful to “engage in a deceptive act or practice” relating to the treatment, cure, prevention, mitigation, or diagnosis of the coronavirus.

According to a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the defendants advertised that their vitamin D and zinc nutritional supplements could prevent or treat Covid-19 without competent or reliable scientific evidence to support their claims.

They also allegedly advertised, without scientific evidence, that their supplements were equally or more effective therapies for Covid-19 than the currently available vaccines.

“From the Nile to the Platte, hit a cop with a baseball bat!”, the group, which reportedly goes by the name “Frederick Socialists,” chanted through bullhorns during the “free the people, fight the power, fuck the police march” down a residential street in one of several short clips posted online by march attendees.

According to organizers, the group’s demands included the “firing” of Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins (an elected Republican and frequent target of the radical left), the ending of the county’s cooperation with ICE as part of the 287(g) immigration enforcement program, and for local officials to “reallocate funds into the community.”

During the march that appeared to span several neighborhoods, attendees burnt flags and attacked a motorist with a pro-police bumper sticker, setting upon the vehicle before posting identifying information online with instructions for fellow leftists to “do with this as you must.” The post was part of a larger Twitter thread from a self-proclaimed AntiFa radical who documented the march attended by an estimated group of 30 individuals. According to police, buildings, homes, and public property were vandalized.

'Slave Sale' Flyers Found Near Aledo Schools Prompt Investigation by Authorities, Media Says

The Aledo ISD superintendent stated that she is troubled by the flyer incident, and reportedly announced “the beginnings of a plan” aimed at tackling the problem.

Aledo ISD police moved to investigate an incident involving flyers displayed near local school campuses advertising a “great sale of slaves”, Fox affiliate KDFW reports.

"It looked like somebody had just thrown them out of their car and just let them land where they wanted to," said Toni Lopez, who reportedly collected nearly 50 of the flyers to throw them in a dumpster.

According to the media outlet, Lopez and several other parents and students addressed the school board about the flyers and about a situation with a Snapchat conversation last month in which students discussed how much some of their fellow classmates would be worth in a slave trade.

Superintendent Susan Bohn said that she was troubled by the flyer incident, and observed that "this behavior does not reflect the values of our school district or our community."

She also mentioned "the beginnings of a plan" to address the incident, including measures such as "reinforcing current conduct rules and consequences, creating working groups between members of the school board and the community about race relations and parent training seminars," the media outlet notes.

"We are reflective. We strive every day to be better than we were the day before in service to our children and each other. And this work is no different," she said.

Longtime Hollywood Foreign Press president circulates article branding BLM a 'racist hate movement,' faces serious backlash

Phil Berk, former longtime president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, circulated an article stating that the Black Lives Matter organization is a "racist hate movement."

The association, which is behind the annual Golden Globe awards, quickly distanced itself from the message in a statement.

What are the details?

According to a Tuesday report from the Los Angeles Times, Berk sent a message to the press association's members, staff, general counsel, and chief operating officer Gregory Goeckner, with an article stating that the organization is a racist movement.

In his message, Berk, 88, shared an article titled, "BLM Goes Hollywood," which addressed BLM co-founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors' recent purchase of a $1.4 million California home.

"The house is down the road from one of the homes involved in the Manson murders, which seems only appropriate since Manson wanted to start a race war," a portion of the article read. "And Black Lives Matter is carrying on Manson's work."

The post added, "The founders of BLM have gone to work acting, writing, consulting, and promoting for Hollywood because their racist hate movement was always an entertainment industry production."

Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's board issued a statement on Berk sharing the article, insisting that such views are not reflective of the organization as a whole.

"Since its inception, the HFPA has dedicated itself to bridging cultural connections and creating further understanding of different backgrounds through film and TV. The views expressed in the article circulated by Mr. Berk are those of the author of the article and do not — in any way, shape, or form — reflect the views and values of the HFPA," the statement said. "The HFPA condemns all forms of racism, discrimination, and hate speech and finds such language and content unacceptable."

Goeckner responded, "Phil — it is not appropriate to circulate material such as this, which many members and staff find deeply offensive, to all members and staff as though it is a matter of Association business. Please do not circulate this type of material again."

Member Rui Coimbra responded to the message in a thread, and according to the outlet, wrote, "As a former HFPA president and still a strong and influential voice in the group, this is not the [type] of information you should be disseminating to HFPA members. Please remove me from any racist email you wish to send to the membership. Dr. Harper has been notified, here, that you are equating the Black Lives Matter movement to the Charles Manson murderous gang."

2 wounded in Army helicopter crash in Alabama

On Tuesday a pair of individuals were injured when a U.S. Army helicopter crashed at a training base in southern Alabama, military officials said, according to the Associated Press.

Fort Rucker officials, according to the AP report, stated in a press release that the “aviation mishap” involved a UH-72 Lakota helicopter during flight training. The crash occurred at Fort Rucker’s Brown Stagefield heliport near New Brockton.

Officials at Fort Rucker, the Army’s primary training center for helicopter pilots, did not immediately release information about what could have caused the incident, which occurred Tuesday morning, according to Coffee County officials cited by the WDHN station.

While both of those aboard the helicopter were evacuated for medical treatment, no fatalities were reported, according to the AP. The aircraft also suffered damage.

Chad’s President Killed Day After Winning Presidential Election

Chad’s President Idriss Deby has died of injuries suffered on the frontline where he had gone to visit soldiers battling rebels, an army spokesman said on April 20. Deby died a day after he won a sixth term, according to provisional election results that were released on April 19.

The 68-year-old Deby, who came to power in a rebellion in 1990, took 79.3 percent of the vote in the April 11 presidential election, the results showed, according to Al Jazeera reports.

The National Assembly and the Government of Chad have been dissolved. For 18 months, the country will be governed by a military council headed by the Idris Deby’s son, Mahamat Idris Deby.

Russia Restricts Civil Aviation Over Crimea And The Black Sea

Russia announced the introduction of a dangerous zone for civil aviation in the area over the Black Sea and Crimea, this was published in the operational information on changes in the rules for conducting and ensuring flights (NOTAM).

In total, the Russian Federation has issued three NOTAMs. They are valid until April 24tj, with minor differences.

A number of air routes in the Simferopol flight information area over the Black Sea were completely blocked.

At the same time, the flight zone over the Crimean peninsula do not overlap.

It is recommended to take special care when flying “to, from, within or over” the flight information regions (FIR) of Kiev, Dnieper (formerly Dnepropetrovsk) and Simferopol, as well as in the FIR regions of Moscow and Rostov-on-Don located within 100 nautical miles from them. Both documents were issued in connection with “possible risks to flight safety associated with the escalation of regional tensions between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which could potentially lead to cross-border clashes without prior notice, increased military activity and / or conflict.”

Additionally, Russian state media reported that Moscow intends to close parts of the Black Sea to foreign military and official ships for six months, which could affect access to Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov, which is connected to the Black Sea through the Kerch Strait.

The US condemned this move.

“This represents yet another unprovoked escalation in Moscow’s ongoing campaign to undermine and destabilise Ukraine,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

“This development is particularly troubling amid credible reports of Russian troop buildup in occupied Crimea and around Ukraine’s borders, now at levels not seen since Russia’s invasion in 2014,” he added.

Cuba Gets Its First Ever Non-Castro Leader

On April 19th, Cuba marked the end of an era – 60 years of Castro family leadership came to an end.

Raul Castro transferred power to the country’s first ever civilian leader – Miguel Diaz-Canel.

The final Castro is 89 years old and he handed the position of first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba to Diaz-Canel, who is 60 years old.

Diaz-Canel has been president of Cuba since 2018.

“April 19, an historic day,” tweeted Diaz-Canel, applauding the Communist Party.

Raúl Castro first appointed him vice president (of the council of ministers) in 2012, shortly after he himself had replaced his brother Fidel as first secretary of the party. It was the first real indication that Díaz-Canel was being prepared for power.

In the appointments to the Politburo, Raúl Castro has made good his promise to rejuvenate the leadership. Two veterans of the revolution, 90-year-old José Ramón Machado Ventura and 88-year-old Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, have retired with him.

The most significant new member is Raúl Castro’s former son-in-law, Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja. He runs GAESA, the business wing of the military that controls much of Cuba’s economy, building hotels and running financial services, supermarkets and imports and exports.

López-Calleja is said to wield huge influence. He travelled with Díaz-Canel to the United Nations and to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin. He was sanctioned by the US in September 2020.

Another new member is Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, believed to be a close ally of López-Calleja.

As Díaz-Canel assumed the role of first secretary, he told the closing meeting of the 8th Congress of the PCC that he would remain in close contact with Raúl Castro, continuing to discuss all strategic decisions.

“Comrade Raul will be consulted on the most important strategic decisions of greatest weight for the destiny of our nation. He will always be present,” Diaz-Canal said of Castro, as he accepted the new position.

This corresponds with his insistence that he represents continuity rather than any break with the past.

Born in 1960, the same year the Castro family nationalized all US-owned property in Cuba, Diaz-Canel resembles neither Fidel Castro nor his brother Raul. He has 3 years of military service, unlike the Castros, Diaz-Canel is a bureaucrat rather than an olive-green-uniformed revolutionary. That said, he will make history as the first Cuban at the helm of the government and communist party not named Castro.

A Western Sydney teacher has admitted in court to having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Monica Young had been due to face trial in September on 12 charges, but today reached a plea deal, the same day her teenage victim was due to pre-record his evidence.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child.

The high school teacher was arrested at her Greenacre home in July last year.

Prosecutor Alexander Terracini told the court he would be arguing prison time was the only option for Ms Young.

She'll face a sentencing hearing on June 24.

Indianapolis FedEx Shooter Never Had ‘Red Flag’ Hearing After Mother’s Warning

A former FedEx employee who is accused of shooting and killing eight people at a parking lot of the global shipping corporation in Indianapolis never was called before a judge for a hearing under the state’s “red flag” law after his mother warned authorities on concerns her son might be feeling suicidal.

The mother of 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole issued the warning to police in March 2020, explaining her son might try to commit “suicide by cop” or force police to shoot him.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said during a press conference on Monday authorities seized a firearm from Hole that day under legislation that passed in Indiana in 2005.

The law, which also exists in several other U.S. states, allows police or courts to seize guns from people who show warning signs of violence or mental health issues.

Hole, then 18, was immediately detained by law enforcement officers upon arrival on the day his pump-action shotgun was seized from the home.

As authorities suspected Hole had mental issues, he was held for a “brief period of time” by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, but officials found no criminal violation.

Mears said officials didn’t pursue a hearing back then due to prosecutors’ ability being limited in preparing a “red flag” case after a change in the law in 2019 required courts to make a “good-faith effort” to hold a hearing within two weeks, as well as filing an affidavit within 48 hours, The Associated Press reported.

“Given the fact that we had already secured both the removal and the surrender of that item … and all of those factors that I’ve mentioned, we did not file a follow-up petition,” Mears said.

Under the “red flag” law, it is possible for a person to be barred from purchasing or possessing a firearm if a judge finds them to be a risk to themselves or others.

Mears said authorities believed they had already done what was needed for Hole, which was seizing the firearm, and by moving the case forward they could be at risk of giving it back to the person.

“The risk is if we move forward with that (red flag) process and lose, we have to give that firearm back to that person,” Mears said. “That’s not something we were willing to do.”

The shotgun was never returned to Hole—who used two rifles that he had purchased legally during last week’s massacre. He reportedly fired for several minutes on employees in the parking lot of the FedEx facility before killing himself, officials have said.

Executive Order Canceling the Constitution

On April 15, Preident Biden signed an Executive Order on Blocking Property with Respect to Specified Harmful Foreign Activities of the Government of the Russian Federation. Contrary to its title, this EO is not about Russia. It is designed to allow the Biden administration to deprive American citizens and organizations of their rights and property by arbitrarily linking those persons to real, imagined, or vaguely defined activities of the Russian government.

The Biden administration unilaterally makes the determination and requires neither criminal acts nor intent. The punishment is blocking assets and a prohibition on any dealing with the accused person. Spouses and adult children of individuals found guilty by accusation under this EO are punished, too.

The EO was preceded by some distracting maneuvers, both diplomatic (hostile rhetoric toward Russia) and military (sending naval ships toward the Black Sea and recalling them back, as if dealing with Russian threats). Thus, many people assumed that the EO was directed at Russia, and completely missed the fact that it is directed at dissent here, at home.

Over the past four years, the Democrat Party, Fake News, and Big Tech have been frequently portraying their opponents as Russian trolls or Russian misinformation operators. The Russian collusion narrative, initially invented to overthrow the Trump administration, has been used to smear many conservative movements. Now this effort has been crowned by an Executive Order.

Biden’s administration has been recently pushing so many other radical changes, such as packing the Supreme Court, eliminating the filibuster, restricting Second Amendment rights, etc., that the real ramifications of this new EO went completely unnoticed. In my opinion, this EO is the most dangerous of them all. It allows the Biden regime to eliminate its opposition, quickly and quietly.

(a)(ii) responsible for or complicit in, or to have directly or indirectly engaged or attempted to engage in, any of the following for or on behalf of, or for the benefit of, directly or indirectly, the Government of the Russian Federation:

(A) malicious cyber-enabled activities;

(B) interference in a United States or other foreign government election;

(C) actions or policies that undermine democratic processes or institutions in the United States or abroad;

(D) transnational corruption;

Some of the language in this EO borrows from another: EO-13224 - Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten To Commit, or Support Terrorism. George W. Bush signed EO-13224 on September 23, 2001, in response to 9/11.

Police Arrest A Math Teacher As She Was Leaving Her High School For Allegedly Having Sex With A Male Student

A math teacher at a New York high school was arrested Monday on charges that she raped a 15-year-old male student, numerous sources reported.

Veronica Pezdan, 28, was arrested Monday after leaving Shoreham-Wading High School in Long Island and was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of third-degree rape, the Riverhead News-Review reported.

Suffolk County Police said Pezdan was engaged in a sexual relationship with the male student for the two months prior to the arrest, according to Riverhead Local.

The school’s superintendent Gerald Poole said a staff member tipped the district off about Pezdan a week prior to the arrest, leading to an internal investigation, according to the Riverhead News-Review. Poole said the teacher would no longer work at the district, and that the “individual in question” passed all background checks required by the state.

Pezdan reportedly started working at the district in 2018.

“The Administration and Board of Education are deeply concerned about these allegations,” Poole said, according to the Riverhead News-Review. “Please be assured that the District does not tolerate and condemns such behaviors. The District is fully cooperating with authorities.”

Pezdan is expected to be arraigned Tuesday, Riverhead Local reported.

Days before Pezdan’s arrest, a former Texas public school teacher was arrested after being accused of having had a sexual relationship with a former student. The former student alledged that he and the teacher had sex not long after the boy turned 13.

Numerous other teachers were arrested in April on sex-offense charges related to minors.

A first-grade teacher at Dallas Independent School District was charged with possession of child pornography after investigators say they found numerous images showing an adult male engaging in sexual intercourse with children as young as three. A New York City public school teacher was arrested on charges that he raped a teenager in 2017.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday she directly criticizes Russia President Vladimir Putin, after President Biden admitted his belief via a TV interview that he thinks the Russia leader is a "killer."

"As far as Mr. Putin is concerned, I will tell you in my own words: if we're talking about criticism, I don't hide it. I tell him directly about it, including in our personal conversations," said Merkel, according to the Russian state-run news agency Sputnik. "This is my way of dealing with the fact that we do not agree with everything that goes on in Russia in the area of human rights."

Merkel reportedly made the comments while speaking at the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

When Biden was asked in an interview in March with ABC News about whether he thought Putin was a killer, he responded, "I do."

Merkel on Tuesday did not directly refer to Biden's response.

Biden said in February that his presidency would try to improve U.S. relations will allies like Germany.

Merkel and Putin have known each other since 2002 and reportedly have a positive relationship.
