Daily Mail Sues Google Over Downranked Search Results

The owner of the Daily Mail newspaper and MailOnline website has filed a lawsuit against Google, which they accuse of having too much control over online advertising, and de-ranking Daily Mail articles in google search results, according to the BBC.

The lawsuit claims that Google "punishes" publishers who don't sell enough advertising space in its marketplace.

Google has called the claims "meritless."

Associated Newspapers' concerns stem from its assessment that its coverage of the Royal Family in 2021 has been downplayed in search results.

For example, it claims that British users searching for broadcaster Piers Morgan's comments on the Duchess of Sussex following an interview with Oprah Winfrey were more likely to see articles about Morgan produced by smaller, regional outlets.

That is despite the Daily Mail writing multiple stories a day about his comments around that time and employing him as a columnist. -BBC

According to Daily Mail editor emeritus Peter Wright, Google's tactics are "anti-competitive," and that the Mail's search results were downranked after using online advertising techniques "which were allowing us to divert advertising traffic away from Google to other ad exchanges, which paid better prices - and this was their punishment."

"We think it's time to call this company out," he added.

The Daily Mail online has over 75 million monthly unique visitors in the US alone, according to the lawsuit which was filed in a New York courtroom on Tuesday.

According to Google, the lawsuit is without merit.

"The Daily Mail's claims are completely inaccurate," said a Google spokeswoman. "The use of our ad tech tools has no bearing on how a publisher's website ranks in Google search."

"More generally, we compete in a crowded and competitive ad tech space where publishers have and exercise multiple options. The Daily Mail itself authorises dozens of ad tech companies to sell and manage their ad space, including Amazon, Verizon and more. We will defend ourselves against these meritless claims," she added.

Google also faces an antitrust lawsuit from the DOJ and several states' attorneys general.

Air Force Two-Star General to Face Court-Martial on Sexual Assault Charge

The former head of the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is headed to court-martial on a sexual assault charge. It may be the first time in modern history an Air Force general has faced such a trial.

A sexual assault charge has been referred to court-martial in the case of Maj. Gen. William Cooley of Air Force Materiel Command, or AFMC, spokesman Derek Kaufman said Wednesday.

"After a comprehensive review of all of the evidence from the investigation and the Article 32 preliminary hearing, I've informed Maj. Gen. Cooley of my decision to move his case to general court-martial," AFMC commander Gen. Arnold Bunch said in a news release. "I can assure you this was not a decision made lightly, but I believe it was the right decision."

n November, the service brought the charge against Cooley, who led the lab for roughly two and a half years. In February, the Air Force convened an Article 32 preliminary hearing, during which a military judge reviewed the charge; the process is similar to a preliminary hearing in civilian court and determines whether there is enough evidence to bring a case to a formal trial.

"This has never happened in the Air Force's history," Don Christensen, president of Protect Our Defenders and a retired Air Force colonel, told Military.com on Wednesday. The advocacy group has been in contact with the alleged victim and connected her with her pro bono attorney, he added.

The Air Force's decision "tells me that there's a strong case here," said Christensen, who was also the service's chief prosecutor.

Following the hearing, Bunch, the court-martial convening authority, reviewed the preliminary hearing officer's report to determine the appropriate disposition.

The charge, which includes three specifications of sexual assault under Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, stems from an off-duty incident that occurred in August 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, officials said. The Air Force Research Laboratory-New Mexico, part of Kirtland Air Force Base, is headquartered in Albuquerque.

Cooley allegedly "made unwanted sexual advances by kissing and touching a female victim," who is not a service member or Defense Department employee, the release states.

According to the specifications, which were detailed in a charge sheet obtained by Military.com in November, Cooley is accused of kissing the woman on her mouth "with an intent to gratify his sexual desire" without her consent. He is also accused of sexual contact, causing the woman to touch his genitalia through his clothing with her hand without her consent, and touching her through her clothing with his hand without her consent.

The Air Force "will identify a senior military judge and coordinate timing and venue for the court-martial proceeding," the release states. "Jurors, or court members, must either be officers of higher rank, or equivalent grade but with an earlier date of rank to the accused."

AFMC stressed that Cooley is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.

Cooley’s lawyer, Daniel Conway of Gary Myers, Daniel Conway & Associates, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Christensen said there is a possibility the trial may not occur if Cooley reaches a plea deal.

"He could offer to retire instead of going to court, and he could accept that," he said. "It'll probably be a while before this gets to trial [because the Air Force] has to come up with a panel of general officers senior to Cooley that are going to be fair and impartial, and it may take them a while to do that."

Cooley, who was removed from his post in January 2020, was already under investigation at the time by the Air Force Office of Special Investigation for alleged misconduct.

Cooley became commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory in May 2017, according to his official service biography. Prior to that, he was the program executive for programs and integration at the Missile Defense Agency at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

"The military has got a long ways to go into solving its sexual assault problem the accountability or lack thereof but it's a good step," Christensen said.

Biden's 'Orderly' Afghan Exit Already In Peril As Suicide Attack Rocks Kabul

After Biden broke the prior Trump administration's long negotiated May 1st deadline pullout deal with the Taliban, it vowed a "nightmare" for US troops should they stay past that date. Are we witnessing the beginnings of a massive upsurge in violence to come? A major peace conference meant to bring the national government and Taliban into a power-sharing arrangement to help facilitate a swift US exit has been canceled before it got off the ground…

"Just hours before the announcement of the postponement, a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of Afghan security personnel, wounding seven people in the capital of Kabul. The interior ministry said civilians and security personnel were among the wounded.

The attack was the first in weeks in the capital, even as targeted killings have escalated and Afghanistan’s security personnel have come under relentless attacks by Taliban insurgents. Recent months have also seen an increase in government bombing raids on suspected Taliban positions and increased raids by Afghan special forces."

And the Associated Press adds further that "Residents fear the attack could be a harbinger of what’s to come as foreign troops prepare to begin their final withdrawal from Afghanistan. No one took immediate responsibility for the attack." The report emphasized that US hopes for an "orderly exit" are already in peril.

A week ago Biden announced a full US troop exit from America's longest war in history, scheduled to be accomplished prior to the 20th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks, which is this year.

But that's long past the prior agreed-upon May 1st exit date. It appears that the Taliban has already declared the national government in Kabul 'fair game' for attacks, perhaps in an early 'message' and signal to Washington.

Prior Taliban statements from days ago said that Washington can't be trusted, and further it would "fight till the end" of the US occupation.

A number of pundits have noted that Biden's handling of Afghanistan is a recipe for ensuring that America will yet again find a reason to stay.

Trial by Jury Died During the OJ Simpson Extravaganza

Derek Chauvin was pronounced “guilty of everything” on Tuesday.

President Biden and VP Harris call the Floyd family after the GUILTY verdict! Thank you @POTUS & @VP for your support! We hope that we can count on you for the police reform we NEED in America! ✊🏾 pic.twitter.com/cg4V2D5tlI

— Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) April 20, 2021

What does it mean? Well, that’s pretty simple.

In America, you can no longer trust that you will get a fair trial. The problem is that your constitutional right to a jury is worthless. A fair trial by jury requires jurors who are competent and have a basic understanding of the law.

Decades of Judge Judy and courtroom dramas have made it impossible to get a fair and impartial jury. Just as planned actually.

If you are picking people who will decide the fate of someone from the general population in the USA you are guaranteed to get a collective intelligence ten points below certified retardation.

From now on, looking at a black person “wrong” will be considered a hate crime punishable by life in prison. The black person will be allowed to shoot you, if they wish, and be free of prosecution.

We have known justice is dead in America for a long time.

From now on, there should be no compliance with “the law”. Forget about paying taxes, parking fines, tickets of any kind.

There is no law anymore.

Also, they have pumped up black people, telling them to get confrontational with the police, and just with anyone who isn’t black. Police are nothing if not stupid, and will follow orders if given orders to confront these blacks. The blacks will create problems, and they will get shot.

Reality and statistics mean nothing to a mob of communists and black people.

— Andy Ngô (@MrAndyNgo) April 21, 2021

And speaking of “let’s stop policing altogether because systemic racism”: pull the police out and let the ghettos burn. Let them kill each other. Flood every ghetto with fentanyl and guns. Within a month, there will be no more BLM.

Remember The CHOP. Within a few days, it turned into gang lords with guns.

If they really want Mogadishu, let them have Mogadishu. They keep saying that without white people, they’d be prosperous. Let’s see.

Close every business owned by whites in the ghettos. If they are such great people, they’ll start businesses to support their own. If they start starving, it will be their own fault.

The Floyd incident itself was effectively based on nothing. It was a simple situation. They spun this into the ultimate global riot meltdown.

There is a goal here to create chaos so that they may install a new order. There is a 100% chance of major riots this summer, which will surpass those of last summer in scale and deadliness.

A Top California Democrat Arrested, Charged With Raping Multiple Children

A top California Democrat was charged on Tuesday for raping multiple children.

Robert Jacob, former Democratic mayor of Sebastopol in Sonoma County, was arrested Saturday on five felony and one misdemeanor sexual assault charges against a minor, according to the Sebastopol Police Department.

On Tuesday, the Democrat politician appeared in Sonoma County Superior Court, where the number of felony charges was expanded to 11.

The charges included: committing lewd acts with a child ages 14 to 15, participating in sexual penetration of a child under 16, making a child under 16 available to another person for lewd or lascivious acts, and distribution of child rape videos.

Foxnews.com reports: Police said the investigation began on March 30 after police got a tip about possible sexual assaults that occurred in the city between December 2019 and March 2021. Investigators identified Jacob as a suspect and took him into custody at a residence in the 7400 block of Woodland Avenue.

Sebastopol Police Chief Kevin Kilgore could not comment on how Jacob and the victim knew each other or provide additional details on the alleged crimes due to the ongoing investigation.

Jacob, 44, is being represented by Santa Rosa attorney Chris Andrian, according to the Sonoma County Superior Court’s website.

Fox News called Andrian’s office for comment on the charges against Jacob, but did not immediately hear back.

Jacob, who is a cannabis businessman, served on the Sebastopol City Council beginning in 2012 and was elected mayor the following year. He served a single four-year term and did not seek reelection, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

He was being held in the Sonoma County Detention Facility without bail.

Police have asked anyone with information pertaining to the investigation to contact the Sebastopol Police Department at 707-829-4400 and refer to Report #21-0220.

Public Corporate Political Activism is Fraud & Should Be DELISTED from Exchanges

QUESTION: Would you cut off a corporate client who is endorsing this WOKE movement?

LD

ANSWER: Any corporation seeking to take our models while joining Schwab’s Stakeholder Corporate Activism can seek forecasting elsewhere. If Big Tech can have guidelines that justify stopping people from speaking or posting, then we too can adopt “community guidelines” because enough is enough. I have NO INTENTION of providing any assistance to any corporation that has joined Schwab in becoming a political activist. I personally think shareholders have a right to bring a lawsuit against the company and to remove all directors using corporate funds for their own political agenda. That, to me, is called FRAUD! Politics has no place in our sports any more than it does in the boardroom. Any company that allows its directors to use corporate funds to further their personal political agenda has no business in our economy.

The only time corporate activism is remotely justified is when some policy directly impacts the business of that corporation. Woke culture has nothing to do with the economy. I believe any public corporation engaged in “stakeholder economics” and political activism is at the personal decision of its directors, which is a violation of their fiduciary duty to their shareholders, and as such, should be DELISTED from any exchange! They are confiscating shareholder assets for personal use – that is illegal and FRAUD!

SCARY: Hillary Clinton Calls For Govt To Censor Conservatives And Critics Who ‘Cost’ Her The 2016 Election

The Left and Big Tech are in a war against our First Amendment rights. And now former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, is openly calling for Americans to be silenced with the power of the federal government.

Clinton denounced big tech for not doing more to censor viewpoints that she opposes. She claims a dangerous lack of censorship on big tech is leading to a rise in “populism and nationalism.”

In an interview with Rappler CEO Maria Ressa on Hold The Line, Clinton described herself as a victim of a targeted campaign by “bullies” to accuse her of “terrible things.” The former Secretary of State, who has an estimated net worth of $120 million, characterized herself as “paying a terrible price” to “stand on the right side of history.”

Clinton explained that just as the government regulated cigarettes to prevent lung cancer, big tech should reign in free speech to prevent opinions that she doesn’t like.

“Just like we had to rein in smoking once we learned that it caused lung cancer, we’ve got to rein in the tech platforms before they truly undermine everything that we believe in.” – Hillary Clinton

Hillary alleges that she was a victim of “Russians and Cambridge Analytica,” which caused her to lose the 2016 Presidential election. She further alleges that the Russian government aided Donald Trump and that people linked to the Russian government “hacked the DNC.” Clinton says that social media blindsided her party. She references the Obama/Trump scandal in which the Obama administration spied on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. However, Clinton says Obama did not do enough and should have made the information public. She also criticizes the media for supposedly not taking her theories about Russian more seriously.

She also goes on a tirade against Facebook. Saying that “the whole business model of the tech platforms, first and foremost Facebook, is to drive distrust, is to drive you through their algorithms further and further down the rabbit hole of conspiracy, falsehood, and to become almost captured by that system of distrust and disinformation.”

Rappler published an article, in advance of releasing the interview.

Trudeau gov't: Don't call vaccines a “treatment” for COVID

Internal emails in Trudeau's government nixed a social media post touting vaccines as a “treatment” for COVID-19.

Erika Zeroual, a communications advisor with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) wrote to fellow staffer Stephanie Burnett Landry looking for approval on a proposed departmental tweet on October 22, 2020.

The email described the tweet and read, in part:

We’d like to tweet out the following for tomorrow’s announcement:

“#GoC announces funding for two #COVID19 vaccine candidates, keeping Canada at the forefront of the global race to find a treatment @PrecisionNano @medicagoinc.”

Burnett Landry replied to caution against using the description of a COVID “therapy”:

Treatment would be associated with a therapy. These firms are doing vaccines candidates. [Staffer Rodrigo Arancibia] knows best but maybe we use words like ‘fight’ or ‘prevent’ or ‘combat COVID-19’.

The finalized tweet, without the “treatment” terminology, was posted on October 23, 2020:

‘An Endangered Species’: The Scarcity of Harvard’s Conservative Faculty

While the University has made a concerted effort across the past decade to promote gender and racial diversity among its faculty, Harvard has not made any explicit attempts to bolster representation from across the ideological spectrum.

Government professor Harvey C. Mansfield Jr. ’53 is widely known on campus as the default example of a conservative faculty member at Harvard.

According to Mansfield, this is not because his views possess any sort of “superiority” to others’ perspectives, but simply because a professor with his political stance is “rare” on Harvard’s campus.

“Every class you enter, you have to work out your position vis-à-vis what the professor is saying,” Mansfield said. “Because a professor is going to be a liberal, and he’s not going to be bashful about it.”

“There are many more conservatives among the students than there are among either the faculty or the administration,” he said, adding that those students tend to seek him out as one of the few vocal conservative voices in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

It is no surprise that Harvard’s faculty skews heavily toward the left side of the political aisle. Out of 236 members of the FAS who responded to a question on political leanings in The Crimson’s 2021 Faculty Survey, just seven — 3 percent — identified as “somewhat” or “very conservative,” compared to 183 who identified as “somewhat” or “very liberal.”

Political donations by FAS members show a similar leftward bent. Contributions by FAS faculty to Democrats recorded in the publicly available Federal Election Commission filings for 2017-2020 totaled $744,143, while donations to Republican campaigns and candidates amounted to just $3,010, less than the $5,600 that FAS faculty contributed to independent candidates.

Harvard is no outlier in this regard, though. The conservative representation on Yale’s faculty just barely exceeded Harvard’s in a 2017 Yale Daily News survey. Of the 314 respondents, only 7 percent of faculty identified as conservative.

Computer Science professor emeritus Harry R. Lewis ’68, dean of Harvard College from 1995 to 2003, said the leftward lean of academia may stem from its goal of advancing new and sometimes radical ideas, rather than maintaining the status quo.

“The best thing you can possibly say about a professor is ‘she changed the way everybody thinks about this field,’” he said. “It’s almost by definition anti-preservationist because we place such a high value on the creation of new knowledge.”

Inspector General says DHS had the authority to use federal law enforcement in Portland last year

The report says that DHS "had the legal authority to designate and deploy DHS law enforcement officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and United States Secret Service to help FPS protect Federal facilities in Portland, Oregon."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General has issued a report declaring that DHS did possess the authority to utilize law enforcement officers from various agencies to help defend federal facilities in Portland, Oregon last year.

The Inspector General noted that officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Protective Service and Secret Service were utilized.

"Between June 4, 2020 and August 31, 2020, DHS repositioned and deployed 755 officers at various times from FPS, CBP, ICE, and Secret Service to assist FPS with protecting the Federal facilities in Portland, Oregon. In our review of 63 officer training records, we found officers met basic law enforcement training requirements as outlined in Attorney General guidelines regarding 40 U.S.C. § 1315," the report notes.

The two Secret Service "Special Agents assigned from the Portland Resident Office" only performed "limited investigative procedures and did not engage with the public."

"Under 40 United States Code (U.S.C.) § 1315, the Department of Homeland Security had the legal authority to designate and deploy DHS law enforcement officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and United States Secret Service to help FPS protect Federal facilities in Portland, Oregon," the watchdog reported. "However, DHS was unprepared to effectively execute cross-component activities to protect Federal facilities when component law enforcement officers first deployed on June 4, 2020. Specifically, not all officers completed required training; had the necessary equipment; and used consistent uniforms, devices, and operational tactics when responding to the events in Portland."

Delta CEO expects COVID immunity proof for international flight but won't call it 'vaccine passport'

"We don't call it a vaccine passport. It carries too many connotations" – Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian.

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian anticipates some proof of immunity to the coronavirus will be required to travel internationally but said the company will rely on regulators around the world to determine what is required and won't be using term "vaccine passport."

"We don't call it a vaccine passport. It carries too many connotations. We're more focused on travel credential if you will, to indicate that you've been vaccinated and/or tested based on the regulatory requirements," Bastian on Tuesday told Yahoo Finance.

He also said Delta in the first quarter of this year had more-than-expected losses but that company expecting to reach profitability in the near future – as tech groups create easy ways for passenger to show vaccination credentials at airports.

"We're working with a number of technology providers to be able to facilitate that in an open source way so that it's easy for customers to pull up their vaccination credentials and streamline their travel."

China Behind Another Cyber Attack in the US – Hacked Into US Computers and Networks Accessing Systems Remotely

The Communist Chinese regime is behind another hack attack on the US.

This time they are using a vehicle that many individuals and companies use to remotely connect to the Internet.

NBC reported today:

China is behind a newly discovered series of hacks against key targets in the U.S. government, private companies and the country’s critical infrastructure, cybersecurity firm Mandiant said Wednesday.

The hack works by breaking into Pulse Secure, a program that businesses often use to let workers remotely connect to their offices. The company announced Tuesday how users can check to see if they were affected but said the software update to prevent the risk to users won’t go out until May.

The campaign is the third distinct and severe cyberespionage operation against the U.S. made public in recent months, stressing an already strained cybersecurity workforce. The U.S. government accused Russia in January of hacking nine government agencies via SolarWinds, a Texas software company widely used by American businesses and government agencies. In March, Microsoft blamed China for starting a free-for-all where scores of different hackers broke into organizations around the world through the Microsoft Exchange email program.

This news doesn’t come as a shock because the Biden gang reported that their concerns are not with China or Antifa but rather with conservatives in the United States:

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/04/bidens-intelligence-committee-not-focused-china-american-patriots-president-trump-roger-stone-cash-patel-good-americans-first-line/

The unfortunate thing is the Biden gang is not mentioning any ramifications for China related to their release of COVID-19 (the China coronavirus) so this will probably also go without any ramifications from the Biden gang.

And, along with the fake news media, they will pretend like this never happened.

Italian Police Arrest Accomplice of 2016 Nice Attacker – Reports

Italian police have arrested an accomplice of the terrorist who perpetrated the 2016 truck ramming attack in the French city of Nice, media reported.

The accomplice was detained by the Interior Ministry's Digos unit in the province of Caserta, the southwestern region of Campania, the Сorriere della Sera newspaper reported on Wednesday. The operation was carried out after the information exchange with France.

The arrested person is Endri Elezi, a 28-year-old Albanian, who was searched in line with an EU warrant over the suspected arms supplies to the Nice attacker.

On July 14, 2016, a truck rammed into a large crowd that was celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. At least 86 people, including children, were killed and over 430 people were injured. The driver was shot dead by police. According to identification documents found inside the truck, the driver was a 31-year-old male resident of Nice of Tunisian origin. Portland's Black Leaders Ask Woke White Folk to Stop Ruining Things

The Left in Portland Is Having a Family Feud

Well, this is uncomfortable.

Portland, OR has been bearing the brunt of more “peaceful protests” than any other city since last summer. Leftist anarchy reigns there, and there is no end in sight.

It has been noted by many that a lot of the riot types in Portland are “down with the struggle” white people. That seems a little racist at first blush. Probably because seeing a bunch of white people speak and act for black people is.

It would appear that some of the radical left black hierarchy in the City of Roses are no longer amused by the antics of their woke white brethren:

Awkward.

We Out Here, a site that covers hip-hop culture and politics in Portland has published an open letter to the “Portland Protest Community.” While those who attached their names to the letter don’t say “white people,” the implication is clear.

WeOutHere.net:

As an array of Black writers, speakers, artists, activists, teachers, parents and professionals, we already struggle to survive in a state that makes every effort to reshuffle and erase us. We need our allies in this fight to understand and honor this fact. Understand that doing damage to us, our communities, and our resources undoes the work we do.

Black people are not a monolith, and having a complicit Black person in your planning space does not indicate support from the Black community. For decades, efforts towards Black Liberation have suffered at the hands of both well-meaning allies and predatory opportunists, and over the last year we have watched as people have profited from and damaged our movement without our consent or approval.

The line about “having a complicit Black person in your planning space” is pretty damning. It also raises the question of how white activists have been getting away with using just a few black people for cover has worked for so long.

I haven’t met a lot of professional leftist political organizers, but I have met more than the average person has. Every one of them has been lily white. I mean SPF 100 white. The over forty people who signed onto this letter are pretty much admitting what we on this side of the political aisle have been saying for years: white liberals just see minorities as pawns to be used for their own purposes.

Portland has been a renewable powder keg since last May. It will be interesting if this will have any impact on reducing the constant turmoil there.

Or if the woke white libs will merely continue doing what they’ve always done.

Lanny Davis Registers as Foreign Agent for Ukrainian Oligarch Facing Bribery Charges

Lanny Davis, a Democratic public relations guru with longstanding ties to the Clintons, has signed a $75,000 monthly contract to help drop a federal case against a Ukrainian oligarch who faces bribery charges in the U.S.

Dmitry Firtash, one of Ukraine’s richest men, hired Davis’s firm to help “correct the public record” regarding the federal case pending against the oligarch, according to a filing with the Justice Department’s Foreign Agents Registration Act unit.

Davis will work with Firtash’s attorney, Dan Webb, in order to “prove that the indictment is invalid and should be dropped,” according to a consulting agreement Firtash signed with Davis’s firm, David Goldberg & Galper.

Firtash, who made his fortune in the energy industry, has been fighting extradition proceedings to avoid trial in the U.S. on charges that he attempted to bribe Indian government officials for rights to mine titanium.

Federal prosecutors in Chicago obtained the grand jury indictment in June 2013.

Davis had previously worked for Firtash but the two sides cut ties in 2019. Firtash hired Rudy Giuliani, the personal lawyer for Donald Trump, and Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing, a husband-and-wife legal team influential in conservative circles.

While Davis has been an outspoken supporter of President Joe Biden, Firtash was identified by federal prosecutors as playing a role in the Giuliani-led effort to dig up dirt on the Biden family’s activities in Ukraine.

Family Of Italian Woman Whose Death Linked To AstraZeneca Jab Launches Legal Action

While American lawmakers have taken steps to shield US pharma companies from any legal blowback caused by COVID vaccines, drugmakers in Europe haven’t been so lucky. And after widespread skepticism of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, what was supposed to be the workhorse of the global immunization rollout before reports of rare and deadly blood clots inspired regulators around the comment to either halt the jab, or impose limits on its use.

And now, all these issues will be dredged up again as AstraZeneca is hit by lawsuits filed by the families of those who died from rare blood clots potentially linked to the vaccine. In what appears to be a first, Sky News reported Monday that the family of an Italian woman who died from a case of vaccine-linked clots are suing to officially establish whether the jab was at fault in her death.

The case involves 55-year-old Augusta Turiaco from Messina, Sicily, who received her COVID jab on March 11, but started experiencing severe symptoms a few days later.

Despite feeling unwell afterwards, Turiaco returned to work, posting two days later to reassure worried friends saying: “Andra tutto bene” – or “everything will be alright” in Italian.

She fell into a coma on March 28 March and died on March 30 March, 19 days after having the AstraZeneca injection. Her condition was similar to others who died after having the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Here’s more from Sky News:

Her brother Nunzio Turiaco told Sky News: “For us it was a bolt from the blue that such a clinical picture occurred.

“My sister was in excellent health, she did not take drugs because she did not have diseases such as hypertension or diabetes.”

Medical records seen by Sky News showed blood clots had formed in Ms Turiaco’s body, including in her brain.

Her platelet levels had fallen.

According to Sky, the family’s suit is one of several legal actions in Europe directed at AstraZeneca over the clotting issue.

China Presses Foreign Governments, Companies to Disregard Human Rights: US Report

WASHINGTON—China’s religious freedom violations, and its growing influence and activities beyond its borders, were “the most troubling developments” of last year, according to an independent, bipartisan U.S. federal government commission.

In its 2021 annual report released on April 21, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) called out China as one of the world’s “egregious violators” of religious freedom, saying that conditions in China further deteriorated in 2020.

This year’s report highlights not only Beijing’s abuses targeting its own people, but also its growing international influence on religious freedom and human rights.

The commission found that Beijing’s economic and geopolitical influence overseas had negatively affected rights and freedoms in other countries.

“Tactics include harassment, intimidation, and detainment of human rights activists, ethnic and religious minorities, and other critics and dissidents,” it stated.

Countries including Turkey have yielded to Beijing’s pressure by silencing critics and even repatriating Uyghur refugees to China, the report stated.

Religious freedom violations by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its growing threats and intimidation overseas “represented the most troubling developments that we saw in 2020,” Tony Perkins, USCIRF vice chair, said at a virtual press conference on April 21.

The Chinese regime is also forcing international companies, including U.S. firms, to disregard human rights abuses in China, threatening company executives to “choose between complying with U.S. laws and Chinese laws,” according to the report.

Perkins told The Epoch Times that it’s “reprehensible” for U.S. companies to benefit from products or services that are coming from forced labor in China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang.

He criticized the companies and the U.S Chamber of Commerce for opposing the bipartisan Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.

“These things should not even be in question,” Perkins said. “They need to get their act together.”

Beijing has repeatedly denied allegations of forced labor abuses and recently encouraged a nationwide boycott over Western apparel and footwear brands that have distanced themselves from sourcing materials from Xinjiang.
