Here's a thought. The UN is the last beast in the book of Revelation. Or perhaps, the European Union. It is going to be comprised of elements of the old Roman Empire, but it won't be like the other previous beasts, it seems it will be more of an economic empire rather than a, "political," one. In other words, it won't be like the Greek Empire, or Roman etc, it will be made up of several countries working, "together," but they won't get along as well as a unified Empire, ergo the iron mixed with miry clay. Some weak parts and some strong parts, but…they will all have, at some point in the past, been part of the old Roman Empire. Remember, the Roman Empire also included parts of the middle east.
I am not anti-Semitic, but reading Revelation, it strikes me that the people of Israel have played the harlot for quite a long time, Gods words, not mine. The bones have been gathered now, and Israel is a nation again. We are nearing the end. Israel WILL eventually realize their error, but not before they play their role in end times prophecy. They are blinded because they failed to recognize their Messiah, at the same time however, God does not break His promises. Abraham and Jacob are probably not real happy at the moment, but they know God has a plan. Israel will return to God and fulfill their part of the plan, but they are going to be heavily, "refined," before that happens. Separate the gold from the dross so to speak.
The numbers may not, "currently," fit, but who knows what time will bring?
Also, the Catholic church comes into play as well I think. The last empires leaders are going to strip her of her wealth and destroy her. Think about about how much money the Vatican has in assets. Money and greed can make some strange bedfellows.
I am almost hesitant to say this, but…there is a possibility that the horn that had a fatal head wound could very well be the nation of Israel. She was gone for centuries and has now been reborn or reconstituted. Oh Israel, remember thy youth and the God who saved you from Egypt.
