Date

April 22, 2021

On January 15, 2021, a Deputy United States Marshal assigned to the Lafayette office was arrested following an Indictment charging him with one count each of aggravated identity theft, identity theft, and false document. David Rodgers was charged in the Western District of Louisiana. According to the Indictment, on or about July 22, 2019, Rodgers did knowingly transfer, possess, and use in interstate commerce a means of identification of another person, to wit, a letter on United States Marine Corps letterhead to the Georgia Department of Human Services with the false and fraudulent signature of a U.S. Marine Corps Officer, knowing that the means of identification belonged to another person. Also according to the Indictment, Rodgers knowingly made and used a false writing and document, knowing it contained materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statements, by creating and sending in interstate commerce a letter falsely purporting to be from and signed by Rodgers’s U.S. Marine Corps commanding officer to the Georgia Department of Human Services regarding Rodgers’s need for a U.S. passport for official purposes. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office, with forensic assistance provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigation Office and Dallas Field Office Investigative Analyst.
