The price?
In New England they are granite quarries, which was used to build all those old town halls and libraries that are now made out of chinese drywall. There are still some operating but not nearly as many (look for bluestone curbs in sidewalk construction).
And they are closed because kids who can't swim would drown and is for some reason it was hard to find the bodies. I remember this happening in the 1970's iicr.
Sorry, forgot to add, New England quarries are all run by mafia companies, and I suspect its where they bury victims that are never seen again.
