DC agrees to $1.6M settlement in lawsuits over mass arrests of Trump inauguration protesters

The nation's capital reached a settlement over allegations that city police officers unlawfully arrested and detained more than 200 people protesting or observing protests of former President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2017.

The Washington, D.C., government will pay a combined $1.6 million to settle the two lawsuits over the mass arrests, according to court documents filed Monday which alleged that D.C. police violated the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment rights of plaintiffs, citing the use of pepper spray, flash-bang grenades, concussion grenades, and stingballs.

The lawsuits also alleged many plaintiffs were arrested without probable cause and that they were detained for 16 hours without access to food, water, or restrooms.

Russian authorities suspend operations of Navalny's offices

Russian authorities have ordered the offices of imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny to suspend their activities pending a court ruling on whether to outlaw them as an extremist group

The prosecutors also asked a Moscow court to restrict the activities of the foundation by banning it from spreading information in the media, taking part in elections, using banks or organizing public events, according to Ivan Pavlov, a lawyer representing the Foundation. The ruling on the motion is expected later on Monday.

The injunction from the prosecutor’s office was posted on social media by Navalny’s allies, who reject the accusations and insist the actions are politically motivated.

Alaska Airlines bans state lawmaker over mask dispute, so she's forced to take 19-hour trip by ferry and road to the capital

An Alaska state lawmaker was forced to take a 19-hour road and ferry trip to the capital after Alaska Airlines banned her over her refusal to follow the mask requirements.

"We have notified Senator Lora Reinbold that she is not permitted to fly with us for her continued refusal to comply with employee instruction regarding the current mask policy," said an Alaska Airlines spokesperson to the Anchorage Daily News on Saturday.

Reinbold, a Republican, had been very vocal about her resentment over the airline's mask policy.

On Sunday, she posted photos from her ferry trip back to Juneau on Facebook.

"Alaska I went to new heights to serve you & have a new appreciation for the marine ferry system. I am keenly aware of the monopoly in air transport to Juneau that needs reviewed! Please thank my husband for giving up his birthday to make a long unexpected trip to Juneau by road/ferry system!" she wrote in part.

The New York Times reported that without taking a flight, the trip from the Anchorage area to Juneau by ferry and road takes more than 19 hours.

Reinbold complained on Facebook that the ban was implemented without any warning.

"There was no due process before a temporary decision that is 'under review' was made public," she said. "Alaska Airlines sent information, including my name, to the media without my knowledge nor permission. I do believe constitutional rights are at risk under corporate COVID policies."

The ban came after video surfaced of Reinbold arguing with Alaska Airlines employees at the gate in the Juneau International Airport about her mask, which was not covering her nose at the time.

"Mask bullies in full force," Reinbold complained in a previous incident with Alaska Airlines. "Sadly Alaska Airlines is part of mask tyranny."

Tucker Carlson Urges Viewers to Oppose Masks as Child Abuse: 'Call the Police'

To support his position, Carlson referenced Ari and Avital Eisenberg. The Eisenbergs are a New Jersey couple who were temporarily removed from a Spirit Airlines flight in early April over their 2-year-old daughter not wearing a mask. An airline spokesperson later claimed that the child's parents had also not been wearing masks, but the Eisenbergs denied the allegation.

Carlson then referenced a state of Michigan order requiring children as young as two to wear facemasks in public spaces and places like camps or daycare centers. He also noted that most Colorado school children are required to wear masks in schools, even when playing sports.
