‘Never heard of them’: Arizona GOP audit firm unknown even in home state
Almost no one involved in GOP politics in Florida, where the company is headquartered, has a clue about the firm conducting the review.

A successful ninja is unseen, unheard, stealthy.
By that standard, the firm Cyber Ninjas — which Arizona Republicans chose to audit the ballots cast in 2020 in the Phoenix area — fits the bill: Almost no one involved in election or politics in Florida, the state where the company is headquartered, seems to have heard of it or knows anything about it.
Nor do they know anything about Cyber Ninjas’ founder, Doug Logan, who registered his firm in the southwest Florida city of Sarasota in 2014, state records show.
“Doug Logan? Cyber Ninjas? No. I don’t know these guys. Never heard of them,” said Christian Ziegler, vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida and a resident of Sarasota, echoing a dozen top Florida Republicans and elections professionals interviewed by POLITICO.
The firm’s relative anonymity is a curious anomaly in Florida, one of the nation’s biggest battlegrounds, where top political players are typically familiar with companies that provide election services and technology.
In a state like Florida — a place synonymous with razor-close elections and recounts for more than two decades — Cyber Ninjas’ absence of name identification and its lack of experience in election audits among insiders stands out. And it calls into question Arizona Republicans’ claim that the company is right for the controversial job of auditing the 2.1 million ballots cast in Maricopa County, which encompasses the Phoenix metro area. The 2020 presidential results there have drawn national attention as a result of baseless claims of election fraud.
The Cyber Ninjas website does not indicate it has experience in election audits but instead markets itself to clients who want to be protected from hackers.
“While it often seems like [hackers] must be utilizing some dark ninja magic to accomplish their amazing feats; the reality is that most security breaches are conducted utilizing types of security vulnerabilities we’ve known how to prevent for over 10 years,” says the website, which features stock photos of ninjas and people at generic business meetings.
The Cyber Ninjas-led audit is being pushed by the GOP-led Arizona Senate — leading dubious Arizona Democrats to refer to it as a “fraudit.” It’s being largely conducted out of the view of reporters or independent observers. Cyber Ninjas asked a judge to keep the procedures of the process secret and also wanted to bar the press and public from the courtroom Monday for a hearing on the subject.
The so-called audit is one of the last dying gasps of Donald Trump’s supporters who continue to cling to the fiction that widespread fraud cost him the presidency in 2020. That conspiracy theory was advanced on the social media accounts of Cyber Ninjas and Logan himself before the posts were stricken.
The new audit will not change the 2020 election results in the state or nation, but it stands to further fuel claims of fraud in the Arizona election results.
In recent days, Trump has repeatedly hyped up the review in written statements that have also attacked Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, whom the former president hasn’t forgiven for his refusal to call the state’s election results into question. Official results reported Trump lost the state by just over 10,000 votes.
The state has been an obsession for Trump ever since Election Night when Fox News was first to project that Joe Biden would win the once-red state — a result in sync with pre-election polling that showed Biden with a narrow lead.
Maricopa County, which is controlled by a majority-GOP board of supervisors, released a forensic audit in February showing no irregularities were found.
Nevertheless, the GOP-controlled Arizona state Senate subpoenaed the ballots to do another review and hired four private firms to conduct the “audit,” which began Friday. Cyber Ninjas leads the team.
“These guys are well qualified, well experienced," Arizona Senate President Karen Fann said of Cyber Ninjas, according to the Arizona Republic.
If the firm or Doug Logan gained that experience in Florida, it’s news to top Republicans there.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever stumbled across him or the company,” said Republican consultant Jamie Miller, a former state GOP executive director who lives in Sarasota.
“I’ve never heard of it,” said Republican Rep. Vern Buchanan, who first won his office in a squeaker of an election in 2006 marred by touchscreen voting machine problems. The state went on to ban the voting machines as a result of the congressional election.

PHOENIX (AP) — Months after former President Donald Trump's election defeat, legislative Republicans in Arizona are challenging the outcome as they embark on an unprecedented effort to audit the results in the state's most populous county.
The state Senate used its subpoena power to take possession of all 2.1 million ballots in Maricopa County and the machines that counted them, along with computer hard drives full of data. They've handed the materials over to Cyber Ninjas, a Florida-based consultancy with no election experience run by a man who has shared unfounded conspiracy theories claiming the official 2020 presidential election results are illegitimate.
The process is alarming election professionals who fear the auditors are not up to the complex task and will severely undermine faith in democracy.
“I think the activities that are taking place here are reckless and they in no way, shape or form resemble an audit,” said Jennifer Morrell, a partner at Elections Group, a consulting firm advising state and local election officials, which has not worked in Arizona.
Conspiracy theories about the election have proliferated across the country even before President Joe Biden’s victory but have had particular staying power in Arizona, which flipped to the Democratic column for just the second time in 72 years.
Trump on Friday predicted the audit would reveal fraud and would prompt similar reviews in other states he lost.
“Thank you State Senators and others in Arizona for commencing this full forensic audit,” the former president said in a statement. “I predict the results will be startling!”
Cyber Ninjas began a manual recount of ballots Friday, a day after Democrats asked a judge to put an end to the audit. The judge ordered the company to follow ballot and voter secrecy laws and demanded they turn over written procedures and training manuals before a hearing Monday on the Democrats’ request. He offered to pause the count over the weekend if Democrats posted a $1 million bond to cover added expenses, but the party declined.
On a since-deleted Twitter account, Cyber Ninjas owner Doug Logan used hashtags and shared memes popular with people promoting unsupported allegations casting doubt on Biden’s victory.
Logan insists that his personal views are irrelevant because he’s running a transparent audit with video streamed online.
“There’s a lot of Americans here, myself included, that are really bothered by the way our country is being ripped apart right now,” Logan told reporters Thursday night. “We want a transparent audit to be in place so that people can trust the results and can get everyone on the same page.”
But Logan refuses to disclose who’s paying him or who’s counting the ballots, and he won’t commit to using bipartisan teams for the process. The GOP-dominated Senate refuses to let media members observe the count. Reporters can accept a six-hour shift as an official observer, but photography and notetaking are prohibited. It would be a violation of journalistic ethics for reporters to participate in an event they're covering.
The Senate has put up $150,000 for the audit, but Logan acknowledged that's not enough to cover his expenses. The right-wing cable channel One America News Network has raised money from unknown contributors for the project, and the money goes directly to Cyber Ninjas. Logan would not commit to disclosing the donors and would not provide an estimate for the total cost of his audit.
Cyber Ninjas plans to have teams of three people manually count each ballot, looking only at the presidential and U.S. Senate contests, which were won by Democrats.

PHOENIX — A new judge will preside Tuesday when hearings resume on the Arizona Democratic Party's lawsuit seeking to shut down Arizona Senate Republicans' audit of Maricopa County's 2020 election results.
Superior Court Judge Daniel Martin was named Monday to replace Judge Christopher Coury after Coury withdrew abruptly Sunday evening, citing an ethical conflict under the Judicial Code of Conduct.
Lawyers for the Democratic Party and the defendants, audit leader Cyber Ninjas and the State Senate Republican leadership, had been scheduled to appear in court at 11 a.m. Monday.
That hearing has been moved to 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Martin expected to plan the next steps in the case.
Democratic Party attorneys contend the audit violates state election laws and regulations. Lawyers for the State Senate say those regulations don't apply to the Legislature or to this audit.
Coury had ordered Cyber Ninjas to file a response by this past Sunday that documents how its audit procedures follow state election laws and regulations.
Cyber Ninjas filed documents Sunday afternoon and again on Monday afternoon.
The company's lawyers have asked that the filing be kept under seal and that any hearing related to the filing be closed to the public and the media. The judge will have to rule on that.
The audit is entering its third full day on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The audit spokesman, Ken Bennett, has not provided any information on how well it's progressing.
Media are barred from entering the building.
Martin was appointed to the bench by Gov. Janet Napolitano in 2007. has been a judge in the Superior Court since 2007 and has presided over cases in family, criminal, juvenile and civil courts.
Coury, a Republican appointee, said in a court filing that a lawyer for the firm representing Cyber Ninjas had worked as an extern in his office within the last five years.
This is just the latest twist in the case since the Arizona Democratic Party's filing of a lawsuit Thursday to stop the unprecedented election audit. The lawsuit's path could take more turns with the Arizona Supreme Court also involved.
The audit is a hand recount of all 2.1 million ballots cast in 2020, an examination of the ballot-counting machines and follow-up interviews with voters.
The audit grew out of Arizona Republican lawmakers' effort late last year to toss out President Joe Biden's victory in the state. The audit won't change the certified election results.

Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen and Procter & Gamble CEO David Taylor are just two of the featured speakers slated this week to help showcase the work being done in Greater Cincinnati to foster a more inclusive economy.
On Tuesday, McMullen and Taylor will take the virtual stage to highlight various efforts their companies are undertaking to boost diversity within their ranks and promote overall economic inclusion. It's part of a two-hour event hosted by the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's Workforce Innovation Center in partnership with the Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism's ongoing national series of events.
The event comes as employers navigate growing their businesses with balancing the personal needs of their employees during a time of rapid change sparked by the ongoing pandemic and continuing national conversation about race and equity.
"Capitalism is not working for everyone in our country as we know, and we have come to a point where we have a disparity in income and wealth among our citizens. That’s never a good position to be in," Tom Williams, CEO of North American Properties, said in an interview. Williams is a member of the national coalition's commission and an organizer of Tuesday's event.
"What we’ve learned is that the business case for inclusive practices is as compelling as the moral case," he continued.
Ed Rigaud, another of the event's organizers and a longtime fixture of Cincinnati's business community, said Tuesday's event builds on panel discussion the chamber hosted in 2018 about inclusive capitalism by offering practical examples of what companies are actually doing today to promote inclusion.
"These folks are going to talk about the things working for them by paying attention to the all the stakeholders, not just the shareholders," Rigaud, who spent three decades at P&G before helping launch the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, said. "I’m hoping the audience will be very broad and will hear something over the course of a couple hours that triggers them to say I want to take part in this inclusive capitalism approach, and I want to use some of the tools from the Workforce Innovation Center or mimic what Kroger is doing like raising pay for hourly workers, so we get more of a movement going. That will inspire everybody to take part."
In addition to Kroger and P&G, representatives from Cincinnati Children's, Nehemiah Manufacturing, the Workforce Innovation Center and Minority Business Accelerator will participate, according to Audrey Treasure, the center's executive director.
Treasure said the advice and tools given during Tuesday's event will be scalable, meaning it's not just companies the size of Kroger and P&G that can apply them. And for those interested, the center's new consulting program can further refine tips specifically based off that companies' existing practices.
But even beyond the local impact, officials hope the event will help those outside of Cincinnati recognize the work being done within the Tri-State, particularly since Cincinnati is the only Midwest city to host an event for the coalition.

VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - A $100-billion cult rooted in white supremacy and an experimental vaccine manufacturer with financial links to pro-abortionistBill Gatesare among the controversial sponsors of the Vatican's forthcoming summit on global health.
Mormon elder William King Jackson and Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel will address the Pontifical Council for Culture's conference on "Exploring the Mind, Body and Soul" from May 6–8. The conference will also host abortion advocateChelsea Clintonand New Age guru Deepak Chopra.
The Vatican invitation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints follows Pope Francis' unprecedented 33-minute meeting with Mormon president Russell M. Nelson in 2019 when the cult dedicated its new temple in Rome, not far from the Vatican.
Receiving Moderna sponsorship and hosting Bancel is also raising questions about Francis' conflict of interest in pushing the jab — especially after some vaccine oligarchs (including Bancel and Moderna's co-founder Noubar Afeyan) became billionaires profiting from the COVID-19 crisis.
The health summit has already triggered a firestorm of criticism for parading a gallery of the mostly Western, elite, globalist, super-rich speakers in the name of "global health." The Vatican is facing mounting calls to cancel the conference.
Pope Francis' Cognitive Dissonance
"It causes some cognitive dissonance to see Pope Francis rubbing elbows with billionaire oligarchs, population controllers and social engineers, given all his prattle about the poor," academic Dr. John Zmirak told Church Militant. "But, in fact, we're just glimpsing the other side of the papal coin."
"If globalist utopians are going to run the world, they can't face billions of free citizens with sovereign votes and disposable income," Zmirak remarked, as conference organizer Robin Smith earlier boasted that the Vatican gabfest was "like Davos, but for health care."
"No, you need billions of beaten-down, reeducated, disarmed proletarians living from paycheck to paycheck. People so terrified by an ordinary virus that they'll toss away their liberties with both hands, gladly, in return for the promise of 'safety,'" Zmirak said.
Zmirak's reference to the pontiff's "cognitive dissonance" also covers the contradictions between Mormon and Christian doctrine and more recent controversies over the cult's adherence to religious texts preaching white supremacy.

Personal life
William Jefferson Blythe Jr. was one of nine children born to William Jefferson Blythe Sr. (1884–1935), a farmer in Sherman, Texas, and his wife, the former Lou Birchie Ayers (1893–1946). Blythe Sr. was of English and Scottish descent, with a family tree in North America since the days of the thirteen colonies.[2]
Blythe was married five times.[3] He married for the first time in December 1935 to Virginia Adele Gash; they were divorced only thirteen months later. Although no child was born to the couple during their marriage, they later had a son together. After the divorce, Virginia moved to California and married first a man named Coffelt, then a man named Charles Ritzenthaler. Blythe married his second wife 21-year-old Maxine Hamilton in August 1938, whom he divorced two weeks later.[4] However, Virginia and Blythe remained friends, and she visited him on occasion. A son was conceived during these visits, and Henry Leon Blythe was born in Sherman, Texas in January 1938,[5] eighteen months after his parents had been divorced. Henry's parents lost touch with each other when he was an infant, after William Jr. briefly married and divorced Virginia Gash's sister. He never knew his biological father or paternal siblings. Later in life, Henry Leon Blythe took the name Henry Leon Ritzenthaler in honor of his stepfather. Henry ran several small businesses in Paradise, California, including a janitorial business, dying in 2009. He was unaware of his connection to the future president until the presidential campaign of 1992, when an investigation by The Washington Post, based on birth registry records, revealed details of Bill Clinton's family. Ritzenthaler met his half-brother for the first time around that time, and the physical resemblance between the two was remarkable.[6]
Blythe next married Minnie Faye Gash, his first wife's sister, in December 1940. The marriage was annulled four months later in April 1941, without children. Shortly after the annulment on May 3, 1941, Blythe married again. His fourth wife was Wanetta Ellen Alexander of Kansas City, Missouri, and the wedding was held in Jackson County, Missouri. Wanetta gave birth to Blythe's daughter on May 11, 1941, eight days after their wedding. She had become pregnant with Blythe's child prior to his short-lived third marriage to Minnie. Sharon Lee Blythe Pettijohn is the daughter of Wanetta and Blythe, and is still alive in 2020. Blythe and Wanetta were formally divorced three years later, in April 1944, and lost touch immediately afterward. Wanetta, who eventually settled in Tucson, Arizona, had no inkling of Blythe's subsequent history until the presidential campaign of 1992 and a Washington Post story. Upon seeing old photographs of Bill Clinton's father flashed on TV, Wanetta "swears on a stack of Bibles … that that was the man she was married to", said her son-in-law Bob Pettijohn, husband of her daughter Sharon.[citation needed]
Blythe's divorce from Wanetta was granted in court on April 13, 1944. Seven months prior on September 4, 1943, Blythe had bigamously married Virginia Dell Cassidy of Bodcaw, Arkansas. Blythe and Virginia remained married until his death in a car crash on May 17, 1946. Three months after Blythe's death on August 19, 1946, Virginia gave birth to their only child, William Jefferson Blythe III. Bill, as a teen, took his stepfather's surname and became known as Bill Clinton, the future 42nd President of the United States. Virginia Blythe-Clinton had no knowledge of Blythe's previous marriages until decades later when The Washington Post ran an extensive story in 1993, based on birth and marriage registry records, to mark Father's Day.[7][8]
Death
On May 17, 1946, while traveling from Chicago, Illinois, to Hope, Arkansas, Blythe lost control of his 1942 Buick on U.S. Route 60 outside of Sikeston, Missouri after one of his car's tires blew out. He survived the accident after being thrown from the car, but drowned in a drainage ditch as he tried to pull his way out of the three feet (1 meter) of water in the ditch.[10] Three months later, Blythe's widow, Virginia, gave birth to their son, whom she named William Jefferson Blythe III in honor of his father and grandfather. In 1950, Blythe's widow married Roger Clinton Sr.; 12 years later, Blythe's posthumous son legally adopted his stepfather's surname. He has a granddaughter Chelsea Clinton, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Move to Arkansas
Rockefeller moved to central Arkansas in 1953 and established Winrock Enterprises and Winrock Farms atop Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton in Conway County.
In 1954, Republican Pratt C. Remmel polled 37 percent of the vote in the gubernatorial general election against Democrat Orval Faubus. It was a good showing for a Republican candidate in Arkansas, compared to previous races in the 1940s and early 1950s. Twelve years later, Rockefeller would build upon Remmel's race and win the governorship for the Republican Party.
In 1955, Faubus appointed Rockefeller chairman of the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission (AIDC).
Rockefeller initiated a number of philanthropies and projects. He financed the building of a model school at Morrilton and led efforts to establish a Fine Arts Center in the capital city of Little Rock. He also financed the construction of medical clinics in some of the state's poorest counties, in addition to making annual gifts to the state's colleges and universities. These philanthropic activities continue to this day through the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation.
