Uncle Sam Does Not Belong in Girls’ Dorms or Showers

Last week, College of the Ozarks sued President Biden. While we did not do so lightly, the Biden administration’s radical and unilateral actions to violate women’s privacy and religious liberty — with little concern for the text of our laws — left us with no choice.

College of the Ozarks, referred to as “Hard Work U” by economist Stephen Moore in the Wall Street Journal, is unique among institutions of higher education in America. At our college, no student pays tuition; rather, each student works on campus, religious liberty is celebrated, and all are held to high moral standards. Since its founding in 1906 by an early missionary, the college has provided financially disadvantaged students with the opportunity to work, in exchange for a distinctly Christian education.

All students participate in the work-education program to help defray the cost of education. The work-education program and donor contributions allow College of the Ozarks to operate as a no-tuition Christian college. The college also maintains a classical, Christian K–12 school, completing the K–college format of providing students an integrated Christian-learning experience.

Yet on January 20, 2021, the Biden administration began taking rapid and successive actions that threaten our long-standing Christian beliefs and that could punish religious schools, organizations, and churches simply because of their biblical view on marriage and biological sex.

Just three weeks after President Biden’s Day One executive order, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a rule change that forces religious schools to open their dormitories, including dorm rooms and showers, to members of the opposite sex. The directive claims that the 1974 amendments to the Fair Housing Act require these changes, but that law does no such thing.

We were thus forced to file our lawsuit, represented by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), to protect our female students and the integrated Christian education we excel at providing. The lawsuit explains that the HUD directive contradicts the historical judicial interpretation of the Fair Housing Act, under which “sex” means what everyone knew it to mean then, and what most people know it means now: biological sex. The suit also points out that the Biden administration issued this bureaucratic fiat in violation of laws requiring them to seek public input first — an opportunity we would have used to underscore the drastic effect this executive action has on the religious liberty of educational institutions.

This policy, advanced by President Biden, forces College of the Ozarks to decide between defending its religious liberty from government overreach or violating our core reason for existing. Young women should not be forced to share private spaces — including showers and dorm rooms — with men, and a religious institution should not be forced to betray its religious beliefs. The government’s threats include harmful fines that could easily amount to six figures, in addition to punitive damages and attorneys’ fees. Fair Housing Act violations can even put someone in jail.

College of the Ozarks is a Christian institution. Our vision statement is “to develop citizens of Christlike character who are well-educated, hardworking, and patriotic.” We take our faith commitment seriously and believe that President Biden’s actions instigate a fight with religious institutions by forcing them to oppose their religious beliefs, protected by the First Amendment.

Such a flagrant violation ought to be shocking. This is America — land of the free, isn’t it? Unfortunately, this doesn’t feel or look like freedom. Instead, a small, private Christian college nestled in America’s heartland is suddenly faced with something akin to George Orwell’s novel 1984. The Biden administration touts this as freedom for all; it’s quite the opposite and, sadly, will only further divide our great nation.

Today, this case concerns religious colleges. Tomorrow, it could be about other colleges, schools, churches, or businesses. The Constitution protects our freedom by separating power and limiting government authority. When the government overreaches, College of the Ozarks and ADF will defend freedom — especially religious freedom — and we hope you will join us.

The wolf is at the door.Unfortunately, his name is Uncle Sam, and he must be stopped.

Woman kills man and his dog in hit-and-run while fleeing from another hit-and-run only moments before: Police

A woman has been arrested after allegedly running over and killing a man and his dog while they were out for a walk in a hit-and-run incident while fleeing at a high speed from another hit-and-run incident she had reportedly committed only moments earlier.

The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 25, shortly before 8 p.m. in Sandy Springs, Georgia a suburb north of Atlanta when police responded to a hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian, later named as 25-year-old Michael Farmer of Sandy Springs and his dog, a Catahoula named Bruce.

An initial police investigation found that Farmer and his dog were walking on Hammond Drive near Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs when a white sedan traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed struck the victim and fled the scene, according to a statement from the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Farmer and his dog both died in the accident as a result of the injuries suffered in the collision.

However, during the course of the investigation, Sandy Springs Police Traffic Investigators found that the exact same vehicle had been involved in another hit-and-run incident with a vehicle only minutes before striking Farmer and his dog.

“Sandy Springs Police Traffic Investigators learned that minutes prior to this deadly incident, the same hit-and-run vehicle had been involved in an additional hit-and-run crash with another vehicle while in the area of Roswell Road and I-285,” Sandy Springs Police Department said in a statement on social media. “The suspect was fleeing the first incident at a high-rate of speed when it struck the pedestrian and his dog; causing fatal injuries to both.”

Through their investigation, Sandy Springs Police Department was able to identify the vehicle as a 2020 white Chevy Malibu with Florida tags and, with the help of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, they were able to find the vehicle and the owner, 38-year-old Dominque Houston of Newnan, Georgia about 50 miles south of Sandy Springs before placing her under arrest.

Houston was then taken into custody, interviewed by authorities and subsequently charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, reckless driving, two counts of hit and run, and one count of following too closely.

Houston has now been booked into the Fulton County Jail on the above charges and is awaiting prosecution.

Trying to figure out what the deal is here with the constant whining on this case. Got to be comms, because nothing else makes sense.

Ghislaine Maxwell ‘intimidated’ by guards as she used bathroom, lawyers claim

Ghislaine Maxwell claims she was “intimidated and humiliated” while guards, who suspected her of owning improperly obtained legal papers, watched as she used the bathroom in a “horrific” prison.

The 59-year-old faces charges that she procured teenage girls for financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse and has been incarcerated in a Brooklyn jail since July 2020.

Defence lawyer Bobbi Sternheim said that the socialite was being treated unfairly in a letter to US District Judge Alison Nathanon on Monday, after the defence appeared in an appeals court seeking bail.

“Ms Maxwell requested and was given permission to use the bathroom,” Mr Sternheim wrote.

“But unlike any other occasion, the guard team leader stood knee to knee with Ms Maxwell while Ms Maxwell sat on the commode in the small area containing one toilet and a sink.”

According to the lawyer, Ms Maxwell then had her papers removed by the guards, who warned her of potential punishments.

“This incident has further compromised Ms Maxwell’s ability to prepare for trial, to confer with counsel, and to retain confidential legal documents,” Mr Sternheim said.

Before the letter was released Ms Maxwell’s lawyer outlined a series of “horrific” aspects of her prison stay to a US appeals court.

Lawyer David Markus said that it was impossible to prepare for trial and unfair to force Ms Maxwell to review millions of pages of materials from behind bars.

Ms Maxwell is currently being woken by guards every fifteen minutes due to concerns that she may, like her former partner Mr Epstein, commit suicide.

"We just want a fair opportunity, a fair chance, so she can get ready for the trial of her life," Markus told a panel at the Manhattan. "It's impossible to prepare for trial when you're getting no sleep."

The lawyers claimed that Ms Maxwell keeps a sock over her eyes to block out torchlight shone at her every fifteen minutes as she tries to sleep.

Ms Maxwell denies helping Mr Epstein recruit and groom three girls for sex from 1994 to 1997, and sex trafficking for grooming and paying a fourth girl for nude massages and sex acts with the financier from 2001 to 2004.

US District Judge Alison Nathan has denied bail three times, and said Maxwell was a "significant risk of flight" even with high bail.

Ms Maxwell is appealing a March 22 rejection of a $28.5 million bail package that included renouncing her British and French citizenships.

Ms Maxwell faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted. A trial is scheduled for July 12, but her lawyers argue it should be delayed until November or next January because of its complexity.

Spy chiefs look to declassify intel after rare plea from 4-star commanders

America’s top spies say they are looking for ways to declassify and release more intelligence about adversaries’ bad behavior, after a group of four-star military commanders sent a rare and urgent plea asking for help in the information war against Russia and China.

A host of troubling actions from those two countries — including efforts to damage America’s relationships with allies and to violate other countries’ sovereignty — mean the Intelligence Community must do more to show the world what Russia and China are doing, according to the commanders.

The memo from nine regional military commanders last year implored spy agencies to give them more evidence they can make public as a way to combat "pernicious conduct."

Only by "waging the truth in the public domain against America’s 21st century challengers” can Washington shore up support from American allies, they said. But efforts to compete in the battle of ideas, they added, are hamstrung by overly stringent secrecy practices.

“We request this help to better enable the US, and by extension its allies and partners, to win without fighting, to fight now in so-called gray zones, and to supply ammunition in the ongoing war of narratives," the commanders who oversee U.S. military forces in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, as well as special operations troops, wrote to then-acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire last January.

“Unfortunately, we continue to miss opportunities to clarify truth, counter distortions, puncture false narratives, and influence events in time to make a difference," they added.

The memo, which was reviewed by POLITICO and has not been made public, made waves inside the Pentagon, the Intelligence Community, and on Capitol Hill over the past year, where it has come to be known as the "36-star memo." It wasn’t a command or an ultimatum; rather, it implored the Intelligence Community to make big changes.

The fact that it was signed by nine of the 11 four-star combatant commanders — all but one of whom are still in uniform — is nearly unheard of, said multiple government officials familiar with the memo who said it underscored an unusual level of alarm among the top brass. The top leaders for U.S. Central Command and Cyber Command did not sign.

The letter was organized by Adm. Phil Davidson, the outgoing head of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and was also signed by Gen. Jay Raymond, who at the time was commander of U.S. Space Command but is now head of the Space Force and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Spokespeople for Davidson and Raymond declined to comment on the memo or their concerns.

Need for speed

A number of current and former national security officials told POLITICO that the efforts now underway are moving too slowly.

"I know this frustrates many of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle — and we need to get better at fighting in this space," he added. "Our adversaries like to operate in the shadows, and the best way to combat them is to call out their lies."

“I would expect the combatant commanders to ask for more from the IC on how the adversaries are using information for operational advantage," said Sue Gordon, a career intelligence official who retired in 2019 after becoming ODNI’s second-most senior official.

But America also has a major advantage against China and Russia, said Sen. Jack Reed, who chairs the Armed Services Committee. "The truth is on our side and we need to do a better job of illuminating and exposing these activities."

KEK "Falsehoods"

Boomerang…

Miami School Embraces Falsehoods, Bars Vaccinated Teachers From Student Contact

Mary Papenfuss·Trends Reporter, HuffPost

Tue, April 27, 2021, 5:18 AM

A private school in Miami banned teachers vaccinated against COVID-19 from contact with students because of its co-founder’s misguided beliefs in anti-vaccine conspiracy theories.

The Centner Academy, a prekindergarten to 8th-grade school in the city’s fashionable Design District, sent a letter to faculty and other staff last week informing them “with a heavy heart” that the vaccinated would be barred from student contact and could lose their jobs, The New York Times first reported Monday.

Leila Centner, who founded the school in 2019 with her husband David Centner, claimed in the message that “reports have surfaced recently of non-vaccinated people being negatively impacted by interacting with people who have been vaccinated,” according to the Times.

She noted that vaccinated individuals “may be transmitting something from their bodies” that could harm others, particularly the “reproductive systems, fertility, and normal growth and development in women and children.”

Centner offered no specifics or scientific facts. She claimed in a letter to parents to be consulting with unnamed “doctors.” As for the lack of evidence, Centner claimed her information is “new and yet to be researched.”

The future for vaccinated teachers at the school was bleak. “It is our policy, to the extent possible, not to employ anyone who has taken the experimental COVID-19 injection until further information is known,” Centner wrote to parents.

Falsehoods have circulated on social media that vaccinated people can pass the vaccine to others and somehow affect their reproductive systems. The rumors are unfounded.

Centner’s message warned teachers that those who get vaccinated over the summer will not be allowed to return until clinical trials on the vaccine are completed — and only “if a position is still available.” Though vaccine studies are ongoing, clinical trials were conducted before U.S. regulators approved three vaccines for emergency use, declaring them safe and effective.

Centner’s publicist explained in a statement to the Times that the school’s top priority is to keep students safe. the publicist repeated the unfounded claims that vaccinated people “may be transmitting something from their bodies” leading to adverse reproductive issues among women, the newspaper reported.

The school has about 300 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and charges $30,000 a year tuition for middle school, according to its website, which says the school backs “medical freedom from mandated vaccines.”

Centner’s misinformed stand against vaccines underscores a problem in halting the pandemic in America. Vaccine hesitancy among Republicans is the highest of any group. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that 45% of Republicans don’t plan to be vaccinated.

Centner and her husband each donated heavily to the GOP and to ex-President Donald Trump’s failed reelection campaign, the Times noted.

Dr. Aileen Marty, a physician and infectious disease specialist with Florida International University’s Wertheim College of Medicine, called the letter from Centner “very sad.”

“It gives the illusion that she’s basing it on facts,” Marty told the Miami Herald. “But there’s not one citation, there’s not one physician or scientist whose name is spelled out.”

There are “no references … no scientific evidence provided. Rumor is the only thing … there’s zero, zero science behind those allegations,” Marty added.
