Current events from Iran I’m seeing on Twitter: – The rial has completely collapsed. Black market price is well over 80,000 rials for a single dollar (it was at about 55,000 – 60,000 per dollar before the President’s announcement). The authorities are arresting (or trying to arrest) anyone caught exchanging currency. – The currency is so worthless that there are signs outside of shops saying “Listed prices may change before you leave the store”. Some shops are only accepting dollars or euros. – Banks (many of which are owned by the IRGC, mind you) are failing across the country, and people are livid that the regime has essentially stolen their savings. Chants of “They say the US is a thief, but Iran (the regime) is the king of all thieves” are being heard outside governor’s offices. -Security forces are on high alert, and unusual numbers of helicopters have been heard circling Tehran.
