GILBERT, Ariz. - A Chandler police officer is dead and another is critically hurt after they were hit by a suspect driving a stolen carafter a pursuit that started in Eloy, officials confirmed Friday morning.
The police chase ended up in Chandler Airport where the suspect driver busted through one of the gates, causing the facility to shut down.
As multiple law enforcement agencies continued to try to take the suspect into custody, the driver ended up getting back on the freeway and led officers to San Tan Motorplex in Gilbert.
The suspect reportedly left his car and stole another car from one of the dealerships, hitting two officers. One of them was Officer Christopher Farrar, who later died.
The second officer that was hit is currently in the hospital in critical condition.
A San Tan Ford employee was also injured, officials say.

After former President Donald Trump closed the border last year, there was a steep drop in the number of asylum seekers arriving at Phoenix community shelters, but Temple Emanuel continued to provide humanitarian support.
“During the pandemic Temple Emanuel and others also wrote over1,200 greeting cards to asylum seekers in the Eloy Detention Center to help keep up their spirits,” Ginsburg said.
Currently congregants are donating food, clothing and gift certificates to a church in Mesa for asylum seekers. Ginsburg said donations of clothing, blankets and towels are also sent to two shelters in Mexico that are housing asylum seekers.
Ginsburg plans to resume volunteering at the Phoenix Welcome Center in the fall
