Colorado and CDC blame J&J vax reactions in Denver area on….wait for it….anxiety:
"It was anxiety — and not a problem with the shots — that caused fainting, dizziness and other short-term reactions in dozens of people at coronavirus vaccine clinics in Colorado and four other states, U.S. health officials have concluded.
Experts say the clusters detailed Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are an example of a phenomenon that's been chronicled for decades from a variety of different vaccines. Basically, some people get so freaked out by injections that their anxiety spurs a physical reaction.
“We knew we were going to see this” as mass COVID-19 vaccine clinics were set up around the world, said Dr. Noni MacDonald, a Canadian researcher who has studied similar incidents.
Colorado's Dick's Sporting Goods Park mass vaccination site temporarily shut down in early April after 11 people reported adverse reactions ranging from nausea, fainting and lightheadedness. At the time, Eric France, Colorado's chief medical officer, said he suspected the problems were caused by a mixture of anxiety and a lack of food and water beforehand.
Colorado investigators previously determined that there wasn't a problem with the vaccine doses that would indicate they were a "bad batch."
"We contacted CDC that night and asked the FDA to review the vaccine lot numbers while public health leadership reviewed all 11 cases," a spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said. "These cases were all associated with dizziness, lightheadedness, and nausea. This ultimately led public health officials to determine there was no cause for concern."
