Unless this is a lens artifact or measuring hash mark of some type …something is wrong or very profound. I taught geology, this does happen in natural rock formation in such a uniform pattern.

Ah yes , laser spectroscopy. Blasting it with the beam while gathering data via mass spectrometer.

 

Thanks Fren , Shaking my head for a moment….I was not aware ROVER had that capability I've been out for a while .

Fellow Anon brought up the laser spectroscopy capability the ROVER has. That area looks uniform enough to get a bench mark calibration assessment before testing other parts of the rock . Who knows what the protocol is they are using .

 

It just stuck out like a sore thumb.
