We Americans became such pussies over the course of several generations as we slowly became saturated with instant gratifications, superficial pleasantries, gluttonous consumerism and the vain and naive notion that We The People means somebody else is acting as a watchdog on our elected officials. These things, coupled with the dumbing down of public education, the breakdown of families and morality, the over-reliance on "technology" to do our "thinking" for us have resulted in the most egregious condition of apathy. Indeed, we have been like the frogs in boiling water. Present company excluded, we have no one but ourselves to blame.
