Juror in Chauvin trial attended Washington DC march last year, but says event wasn't for Floyd

Reports indicate that march was referred as the "Get Your Knee Off Our Necks" March.

A photo of one of the jurors from the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin and the news that he attended a rally in Washington DC on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I Have A Dream" speech are attracting attention after the jury in the widely-watched case convicted Chauvin last month of second-degree unintentional murder, second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder in connection with the death of George Floyd.

"I'd never been to [Washington] D.C.," Brandon Mitchell said about his reasons for attending the event in the nation's capital, the Star Tribune reported. "The opportunity to go to D.C., the opportunity to be around thousands and thousands of Black people; I just thought it was a good opportunity to be a part of something."

He said was it was not a march for Floyd: "It was directly related to MLK's March on Washington from the '60s … The date of the March on Washington is the date," Mitchell said, according to the outlet.

Reports indicate that the march was referred as the "Get Your Knee Off Our Necks" March. Members of Floyd's family spoke to the crowd.

A photo of Mitchell and two of his cousins shows him wearing a shirt that appears to say "Get Your Knee Off Our Necks" and "BLM," though Mitchell does not remember wearing or owning the item of apparel, according to the Star Tribune. Mitchell said the post with that photo was placed on social media by his uncle.

Mitchell had answered no on a questionnaire that asked if he had engaged in any events against police brutality or police utilization of force.

"I think they asked if I attended any protests for George Floyd or anything for police brutality. My answer was no because I hadn’t," Mitchell said to WCCO. "This particular march was more so for voting, voter registration. Getting people out to get out and vote for the presidential election that was upcoming a couple months afterward … This was the only thing I attended."

The Star Tribune reported that one question on a juror questionnaire sent out prior to jury selection had inquired: "Did you, or someone close to you, participate in any of the demonstrations or marches against police brutality that took place in Minneapolis after George Floyd's death?" and another asked, "Other than what you have already described above, have you, or anyone close to you, participated in protests about police use of force or police brutality?"

'Deplorable' professor creates 'anti-indoctrination mill' with new education startup

Michael Rectenwald riled NYU with his tweets. Now he's recruiting academics to teach courses that push back on critical race theory.

Michael Rectenwald got himself chased out of New York University when the self-identified communist copped to tweeting against trigger warnings, safe spaces and bias reporting under the pseudonym "Deplorable NYU Prof."

The professor left two years ago with a golden parachute — the result of a legal settlement with the private university that included a retirement package.

He's not content anymore with just writing polemical books and fiction in retirement. Now Rectenwald is scouting for academics to join an educational startup, American Scholars, that is launching this summer.

It will feature prerecorded "anytime lessons" for students of all ages, with a focus on supporting homeschooling, college preparation and adult education, Rectenwald said in an exclusive interview Monday. A rudimentary website went live that night.

American Scholars will "challenge the ideologies that are being purveyed" in mainstream schools, including critical race theory, postmodernism and socialism, he said. It wants to prepare students for the "political outlook" they are likely to face in college.

Rectenwald characterized the American educational system as "very difficult terrain for anyone who's a political outsider … Even K-12 can be an indoctrination mill. [American Scholars is] an anti-indoctrination mill."

The venture will run on a subscription model in the range of $30-80 a month for different levels and amounts of educational content. It isn't planning to seek accreditation at this point, however, due to the difficulty of the process.

Matthew Pohl, the startup's Austin-based founder and CEO, told Just the News he was baffled that so few companies are interested in making education cheaper and more attainable. "The market is yearning for this," he said.

He spent a decade as an admissions officer, most recently at the University of Pennsylvania, and then an admissions consultant and educational entrepreneur.

"I've had a front row seat" to watch students increasingly lose their "grasp on reality" while racking up immense student-loan debt, Pohl told Just the News. "I was essentially responsible for that as a gatekeeper."

China Accuses Australia Of "Colluding With Terrorists" In Row Over Uygher Rights Group

In the latest from their ongoing and increasingly nasty geopolitical row, China is accusing Australia giving a "free pass" to terror-sympathizers over accusations that Aussie politicians are backing Uighur activists and providing external support to Muslim fundamentalists in Xinjiang.

This latest diplomatic fight started when as news.au.com describes Chinese state media "seized on an article, published by fringe political group the Australian Citizens Party, criticizing local politicians’ support for the East Turkistan Australian Association (ETAA), a Uyghur advocacy group. The article claimed the ETAA supported terror groups in Xinjiang."

It was specifically Australia's Defense Minister Andrew Hastie and independent Senator Rex Patrick who were called out by Chinese media for supporting the ETAA activists, which Canberra later called "disinformation".

China's foreign ministry was quick to respond fiercely, pointing the finger Australian officials for "colluding with terrorists" and warning Canberra will surely be "burned" by the Uyghur groups it's backing. Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin additionally described "lies and smears" which target Xinjiang and China broadly.

"As some Western media are awash with lies and smears targeting Xinjiang, such objective and rational voices shows that justice will eventually prevail," Wenbin said. "We urge certain Australian politicians not to stand on the wrong side of history and to stop endorsing anti-China separatist activities and terrorist organizations to avoid getting burned itself."

Apparently the Australian political advocacy group which is at the center of the controversy does not have a wide following or much prominence in the Australian media landscape, yet as has happened with other countries and with similarly related issues, China seized upon the article in question to make it somehow representative of Australia's official stance.

Beijing was particularly angered at the article's language describing Xinjiang as "currently under the brutal occupation of the Chinese Communist Government."

Queen Informed on New Zealand Millionaire Giving Up Knighthood Amid Child Abuse Case, Ardern Reveals

Last month, disgraced millionaire Ron Brierley pled guilty to three of 17 charges related to his possession of material containing the sexual abuse of children. He was arrested at Sydney Airport in December 2019.

Ron Brierley, accused of possessing images of child sexual abuse, has surrendered his knighthood after pleading guilty, The New Zealand Herald reported on Tuesday, citing the country's prime minister, Jacinda Ardern.

"The Clerk of the Executive Council wrote to him on April 6 2021 on behalf of the Prime Minister, giving him 30 days in which to provide any information that he considered relevant before the Prime Minister made her decision," the statement by the Prime Minister's office said. "Brierley may no longer use the title 'Sir', and he has been asked to return his insignia."

According to Ardern, if the disgraced millionaire had not voluntarily relinquished the title, he would have been stripped of it.

"The queen has been informed," Ardern noted.

Brierley, a New Zealand investor, was knighted in 1988 for his service in business, when he was estimated to be worth $220 million. In March 1961, he founded R.A. Brierley Investments with zero capital, and the company became one of the largest in New Zealand.

In December 2019, he was arrested in Sydney airport, later facing 17 charges of possessing material of child sex abuse. The officials said that he had "large amounts of child abuse material" on his devices, particularly with children between two and 15 years old.

The millionaire pled guilty to three of the charges earlier in April, with the remaining charges withdrawn. According to The NZ Herald, his barrister admitted he possessed "some images" but the exact figure is "in dispute".

Corporate News Outlets Again "Confirm" The Same False Story, While Many Refuse To Correct It

One of the primary plagues of corporate journalism, which I have documented more times than I can count, just reared its ugly head again to deceive millions of people with fake news. When one large news outlet publishes a false story based on whispers from anonymous security state agents with the CIA or FBI, other news outlets quickly purport that they have “independently confirmed” the false story, in order to bolster its credibility (oh, it must be true since other outlets have also confirmed it).

This is an obvious scam — they have not “independently confirmed” anything but rather merely acted as servants to the same lying security state agents who planted the original false story — but they do it over and over, creating the deceitful perception that a fake story has been "confirmed” by multiple outlets, thus bolstering its credibility in the public mind. It was the favored tactic for spreading debunked Russiagate frauds and is still used. One of the most vivid examples occurred in December, 2017, when CNN falsely reported what it hyped as "a major bombshell”: that Donald Trump, Jr. had advance access to the WikiLeaks archive. Within an hour, NBC News’ Ken Dilanian and CBS News both claimed they had “independently confirmed” this fairy tale. When it turned out that it was a complete lie, all based on a false date on an email to Trump Jr., these outlets embarrassingly corrected it hours later and then simply moved on as if it never happened, never explaining how multiple outlets could possibly have all “independently confirmed” the same blatant falsehood.

On Thursday night, The Washington Post, citing anonymous sources (of course), claimed that the FBI gave a "defensive briefing” to Rudy Giuliani in 2019, before he traveled to Ukraine, that he was being targeted by a Russian disinformation campaign to hurt Joe Biden's candidacy, yet he ignored the FBI's warnings and went anyway. The Post also claimed that the right-wing news outlet OANN was similarly briefed. The claim about Giuliani not only predictably ricocheted all over social media and cable news — where, as usual, it was uncritically treated as Truth — but it was shortly thereafter “independently confirmed” by both NBC News’ de facto CIA spokesman Ken Dilanian along with The New York Times.

What was the problem with this story? It was totally false. The FBI never briefed Giuliani on any such thing. As a result, The Washington Post had to append this "correction” — meaning a retraction — to the top of its viral story:

Biden, Dems seek to redefine 'infrastructure' to justify $4 trillion more in new spending

"The personal infrastructure must be built in order for the physical infrastructure to involve everyone in its success," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday.

President Joe Biden and his allies in Congress are seeking to expand the longstanding definition of "infrastructure" as a way to pass $4.1 trillion in new government spending.

Democrats used budget reconciliation to avoid a Senate filibuster and pass Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, a coronavirus stimulus bill, in March.

After signing the stimulus bill, Biden proposed the $2.25 trillion American Jobs Plan, predicting that it will create "good paying" union jobs. He rolled out a $1.8 trillion American Families Plan focused on social programs during his address to Congress last week. The legislation language has yet to be drafted for either plan.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has referred to the American Families Plan as a "personal infrastructure" proposal.

"The personal infrastructure must be built in order for the physical infrastructure to involve everyone in its success," she said on Thursday. "And that's why, whether it's women, minorities, people of color, veterans, rural Native American communities, as well as businesses, must be able to participate in all of that."

Others have called Biden's proposal a "human infrastructure" plan.

Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand tweeted earlier this month that paid leave, child care and caregiving are considered infrastructure.

McConnell said on Monday that Biden's new plans are "loaded with tax increases that will slow the economy and more amounts of debt all in the name of infrastructure, but of course infrastructure is only a part of what they have in mind."

The Kentucky Republican argued that Democrats in Congress "just can't resist stretching out the pandemic" and "using it as a rationale for additional spending far beyond what is best for the country."

McConnell was asked if he thinks any Republicans will get behind Biden's plans.

"I think it's worth talking about, but I don't think there will be any Republican support, none, zero for the $4.1 trillion grab bag, which has infrastructure in it but a whole lot of other stuff," McConnell said, setting the stage for Democrats to try using budget reconciliation again.

In March, as Just the News previously reported, a top Democrat referred to Biden's forthcoming infrastructure plan as a "grab bag" for other Democratic agenda items related to issues like climate change, health care and immigration.

McConnell said a targeted physical infrastructure plan should total about $600 billion.

"We're open to doing a roughly $600 billion package which deals with what all of us agree is infrastructure and to talk about how to pay for that in any way other than reopening the 2017 tax-reform bill," he said, attributing the growth of the pre-pandemic economy with low unemployment to the tax reform law. "If it's going to be about infrastructure, let's make it about infrastructure."

A resident of a nearby county farther inland and away from the border told PJ Media that she spotted an illegal migrant on her property before dawn today. He was attempting to look into the windows of her home as he trespassed. Local law enforcement took 40 minutes to arrive, and when they did, did very little to track the man. He disappeared.

A “bailout” is when a coyote has stolen a vehicle, usually on the U.S. side of the border, and is using it to move illegals across. They bail out of the stolen vehicle at some point, usually when law enforcement is in pursuit. The individuals then typically split up and many are not apprehended. The owners of the stolen vehicles do not get their property returned to them.

A constable in Dimmit County posted this on Facebook over the weekend.

Around 7:00pm this afternoon on Hwy 85 and FM 468 East of Big Wells I assisted DPS in a vehicle pursuit. The pursuit continued on Hwy 85 into Frio County where the driver turned onto Hwy 35 North into oncoming traffic. FBI Caught Snooping Through NSA Records to Look for ‘Racially Motivated Violent Extremists’

The Daily Beast reported last week that “The FBI, without any court order, sifted through the National Security Agency’s massive troves of foreign communications for information on American “racially motivated violent extremists,” even though the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) Court warned the FBI in 2018 that its warrant-free queries” were unconstitutional. The first question that springs to mind in connection with this is: to whom can we turn when those who are supposed to be protecting us have been thoroughly corrupted and weaponized against the American people? And the second question is: Why are “racially motivated violent extremists” so hard to find that the FBI has to do an illegal deep dive into NSA material to find them?

The FBI is trying to validate the narrative that Old Joe Biden’s handlers had him enunciate (which he did, remarkably, without getting tongue-tied or saying something incoherent) during his message to Congress. “’As I stand here tonight,” Biden intoned Wednesday, “just one day shy of the 100th day of my administration. 100 days since I took the oath of office, lifted my hand off our family Bible, and inherited a nation in crisis. The worst pandemic in a century. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.”

The idea that the entry of a group of unarmed people into the U.S. Capitol constituted the “worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War” was not just ridiculous (remember 9/11? Pearl Harbor?); it was insidious. Beyond the silliness and hysteria is an insidious agenda. Biden’s handlers mean to stigmatize, demonize and silence all dissent from their far-left agenda. Wildly exaggerating what happened on January 6, and the concomitant “white supremacist agenda,” is in service of that agenda.

And so the FBI goes fishing in material the NSA obtained without a warrant, trying to validate the left’s claims. And this has been a long time coming: Jana Winter reported in Yahoo News in February that “the U.S. government is acknowledging for the first time that right-wing extremists were responsible for the majority of fatal domestic terrorist attacks last year, according to an internal report circulated by the Department of Homeland Security last week.” But as you might expect, the actual report was long on vague assertions and decidedly short on facts.

Before that, FBI Director Christopher Wray claimed back in September 2017 that “white nationalist” violence was at least as much of a danger to the United States as the Islamic State. But now this claim is being codified as policy. Seth Jones of the Center for Strategic and International Studies states of the new report: “What is a little unusual is that they’ve used terms like ‘right- and left-wing’ in a government document, because the government has generally used other terms. The government in 2020 did try to stay away from ‘right-wing’ terms because they were easily politicized.”

Seven men accused of massive methamphetamine importation off Geraldton have their trial aborted

The trial of seven men accused of involvement in one of Australia's biggest drug importations has been derailed, with the Perth jury discharged this morning.

The seven men — Jabour Anthony Lahood, Peter Harb, Stephen Baxter, Khalid Kaena, Serupepeli Anthony Rasaubale, Christos Cafcakis and Patrick Leandro Bouhamdan — were alleged to have been behind the importation of 1.2 tonnes of the drug, methylamphetamine, more commonly known as ice, into Geraldton on board a vessel called the Valkoista in December 2017.

The prosecution alleged the men all played varying roles, with the importation allegedly being overseen from Sydney, by Mr Lahood and Mr Harb.

It is alleged Mr Kaena and Mr Rasaubale were part of the so-called "ground crew", who were going to transport the drugs across the country, while Mr Cafcakis and Mr Bouhamdan, were in the "boat crew" which picked up the drugs in what was called the "Asia boat" in a nighttime mid-ocean rendezvous about 300 nautical miles off Geraldton.

Prosecutors told the court that unbeknownst to the men, they were being watched by authorities, who were secretly recording their movements and had installed a listening device on the boat, which captured the moment the drugs were alleged to have been handed over.

The secret recording was played to the jury — on it an Asian-accented voice could be heard saying "money, money" which prosecutors alleged was a reference to a half torn Hong Kong bank note which both parties used to confirm their identities.

Secretly recorded footage also showed the boat, called the Valkoista, returning to Geraldton where a few hours later, after 59 packages were unloaded from the vessel in around eight minutes, police swooped and arrested the boat and ground crews.

Several people reported dead, multiple injured in metro COLLAPSE in Mexico City

Multiple people are reported dead or injured after a portion of an elevated rail in the Olivos suburb of Mexico City collapsed on the ground, causing a passing train to derail and crash.

Unofficial reports from the scene spoke of at least 50 people injured, after the metro train fell from the collapsing section of Line 12 on Monday evening, shortly before 11 pm local time.

Newspaper El Universal reported six dead and 80 injured, citing emergency services responding to the scene. Mexico City authorities have not given any official information about injuries or fatalities as of yet. Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum is reportedly en route to the station.

Photos from the site show the train cars hanging above the crumbled supports, as rescue teams try to evacuated any passengers that may have been on board.

About two dozen ambulances responded to the scene.

Preliminary reports said that the elevated rail collapsed when a vehicle struck one of the support pillars at street level. The train broke in two as it plummeted to the ground below.

Other ads appealed to the city’s African-American residents, as well as Spanish-speakers – who were told “no papers, no problem.”

More than a few Baltimoreans recognized the ominous tropes from the much-panned UK ads, which seemed designed to instill fear rather than impart knowledge.

Meanwhile, the city “has taken a proactive approach, partnering with hospitals and pharmacies to create mobile vaccine teams to vaccinate those most at risk of severe Covid-19,” ProPublica reported on Saturday.

The Baltimore City Health Department even played fast and loose with separation of church and state, collaborating with Johns Hopkins University and area bishops to suggest what behaviors were permitted inside houses of worship.

On Monday, the state of Maryland started offering its employees a $100 payment to encourage vaccination. Governor Larry Hogan announced that the government was “further encouraging state employees to get vaccinated to help keep themselves, their families, and their communities healthy and safe.”

The program is projected to cost $5 million and will require participants to show certificates of vaccination to state government employees at the Human Resources Office – meaning one can’t simply look like a state employee, one must actually be one.

As of May 1, about 2.75 million Marylanders – about 46% of the state’s total population – have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 2.09 million, or 35%, were considered fully vaccinated.

Bail granted for B.C. father who was jailed for breaking a publication ban on trans child's case

Last week I promised you an update, and here it is! C.D., the British Columbia father who was sentenced to six months in prison after speaking out against the medical transitioning of his child without his consent, has been granted bail!

In speaking out, C.D. breached publication bans that had been placed on this case. That’s what landed him in custody, and later, sentenced to prison time.

But with the help of his friends and family, C.D. was able to retain a new lawyer who specializes in criminal appeals, Vincent Larochelle.

There was some discussion of bail conditions, like whether or not C.D. would be able to have any contact with his child or do any interviews, including with us at Rebel News.

In the end, the judge decided that the existing publication bans on this case are enough, for now — but C.D. still may not do any interviews with publications that are in breach of those gag orders.

Silicon Valley Algorithm Manipulation Is The Only Thing Keeping Mainstream Media Alive

The emergence of the internet was met with hope and enthusiasm by people who understood that the plutocrat-controlled mainstream media were manipulating public opinion to manufacture consent for the status quo. The democratization of information-sharing was going to give rise to a public consciousness that is emancipated from the domination of plutocratic narrative control, thereby opening up the possibility of revolutionary change to our society’s corrupt systems.

But it never happened. Internet use has become commonplace around the world and humanity is able to network and share information like never before, yet we remain firmly under the thumb of the same power structures we’ve been ruled by for generations, both politically and psychologically. Even the dominant media institutions are somehow still the same.

So what went wrong? Nobody’s buying newspapers anymore, and the audiences for television and radio are dwindling. How is it possible that those same imperialist oligarchic institutions are still controlling the way most people think about their world?

The answer is algorithm manipulation.

Last month a very informative interview saw the CEO of YouTube, which is owned by Google, candidly discussing the way the platform uses algorithms to elevate mainstream news outlets and suppress independent content.

At the World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Technology Governance Summit, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki told Atlantic CEO Nicholas Thompson that while the platform still allows arts and entertainment videos an equal shot at going viral and getting lots of views and subscribers, on important areas like news media it artificially elevates “authoritative sources”.

“What we’ve done is really fine-tune our algorithms to be able to make sure that we are still giving the new creators the ability to be found when it comes to music or humor or something funny,” Wojcicki said. “But when we’re dealing with sensitive areas, we really need to take a different approach.”

Wojcicki said in addition to banning content deemed harmful, YouTube has also created a category labeled “borderline content” which it algorithmically de-boosts so that it won’t show up as a recommended video to viewers who are interested in that topic:

“When we deal with information, we want to make sure that the sources that we’re recommending are authoritative news, medical science, et cetera. And we also have created a category of more borderline content where sometimes we’ll see people looking at content that’s lower quality and borderline. And so we want to be careful about not over-recommending that. So that’s a content that stays on the platform but is not something that we’re going to recommend. And so our algorithms have definitely evolved in terms of handling all these different content types.”
