I am not sure if he has gone rogue against his initial mission hence his imprisonment. He just comes across as a comic book hero rather than a real person, which again red flag.
You should have a look at Richard Hall's work and source materials on the subject, he has many documented links between early WL and open societies. Assange stayed with a known OS associate for some time before the hammer came down on him. He broke his house arrest to do a voiceover for the Simpsons, and the staff who took the recordings were left very unnerved by the experience.
