My wife and I have been house shopping lately and the prices of houses are crazy right now. We’ve also been getting our current house ready to sale and EVERYTHING, including wood, has gone way up in price since we last did any home improvements. Interestingly enough, we’ve discovered that most new construction homes are being built on concrete slabs instead of foundations. There are issues that can arise with slab houses (e.g. more susceptible to termites, having to drill beneath concrete to fix plumbing issues, slab cracking over time, etc) so the only logical reason for this (that we can surmise at least), is the cost of wood and other materials that go into a traditional foundation. Even so, these new slab houses are ranging anywhere from $100-$150 per square foot!
Maybe you could by the property at a discount? With all of the economic uncertainty, propensity and always has been a wise investment. I don’t know the future of digital currency, precious metals, stocks and bonds and so on, but property is always a solid asset that typically grows in both demand (scarcity) and value.
Yeah that’s the bottom dollar price. Most of those houses are starter homes and often in the ghetto.

Yeah I’m in NC, so it’s definitely cheaper here. Apple just announced a huge multi billion dollar investment in the RTP area here and I suspect this will drive the housing market to new heights. It’s rumored that GOOGLE may follow suit and make a massive investment here. I don’t care for either company but I guess the economic impact will be good.
Yeah RTP has always been a great draw for tech companies. The politics are a bit strange here as we are typically a red state, but trending towards purple as more and more people (especially from the northeast) move here for work and low cost of living. We have a Republican controlled legislature and both of our US Senators are Republicans (RINOS), while our Governor is a leftist Democrat.
I work in the general RTP area but I live about 45 miles away, so hopefully it’ll be all good.
