UCP Caucus Chair, Todd Loewen announced in an open letter to Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, that he will be stepping down from his role due to dysfunction within the government.

And he blames Premier Kenney for that dysfunction, calling for his removal as well.

Loewen says he resigned from his position so that he could speak more freely and try and save the movement.

We're a few years away from an election in Alberta but perhaps this is setting up the NDP for another victory out west.

The scandal was first mentioned as a throw away line in a CBC News story from 2020 on the increased fighter jet air traffic over London, Ontario:

But in typical CBC fashion, the real story is buried way down in the article.

A private company called ITPS Canada is training foreign fighter pilots on “aircraft to aircraft combat, aircraft to ground combat and aerobatics”, according to the statement given by Giorgio Clementi the owner of the company.

The pilots are here for a year to learn everything about 20 different aircraft from single engine propeller planes to large jets. Clients have included the Italian, Turkish, Malaysian, and Chinese Air forces.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army is using Canadian airspace to hone their skills to kill Canadian allies.

Exclusive documents obtained by Rebel News through an Access to Information request detail that Transport Minister Marc Garneau was specifically informed of each time a Chinese pilot was training at the private training facility:

In the case of flight training conducted under sub-paragraph 2.b, the flight instructor shall notify the Minister in writing of the name in person receiving the training, the registration of the aircraft to be used, the type of training to be conducted, the location of the training operations, the name and license number of the flight instructor. The information must be provided to the Minister prior to commencing training operations, within 10 working days of any change to the information, and when the training is discontinued.

Garneau was in the loop every step of the way.

These operations are being conducted in public airspace that is located in a populated area north of London, Ontario. The primary clientele for these flight operations are foreign pilots / militaries that contract ITPS (Canada) to supplement their programs.

ITPS is a recognized international center of excellence, providing training as well as consulting services to entities in China, Turkey, Italy, Germany and Thailand.

The documents also list the specific training activities taking place over the skies near London and Toronto, including air-to-air fighter jet combat and air-to-ground attack and low-level flying.

There were also concerns with the skill levels of the foreign pilots:

Next time you look up at the sky and see a fighter jet, it might not be cause for a sense of patriotism and pride in our military.

A new report by the Fraser Institute reveals that by 2030, the amount of money Canadian taxpayers will be spending on Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will have grown by 70% due to the increasing size of Canada’s elderly population.

The report, titled Canada’s Aging Population and Income Support Programs found that expenditures on the program will go up to a whopping $103.2 billion price tag.

“As Canada’s population of seniors grows with each passing year, so too do the costs of these support programs,” said report author and resident scholar Steven Globerman in a press release on the matter.

“The increased costs for senior income support risks crowding out government spending in other areas that are important to Canadians. The aging of the population has already begun, and policymakers across Canada need to prepare for the drastic changes this will usher in, including escalating costs for income support programs.”

As noted by Globerman, the true cost of the programs will likely be higher considering the fact that the Liberals announced a 10% increase to OAS. Furthermore, by the year 2060 taxpayers will be spending 136% more on the two programs.

Both the OAS and GIS are direct monthly payments to individuals over 65 years of age, however, the GIS is meant to assist low-income Canadian seniors.

Canada’s population is aging so rapidly that by the year 2060, approximately 25% of Canada’s population will be 65 or older.

In 2012, Prime Minister Harper raised the age of eligibility for the OAS pension to 67 years old.

“The aging of the population and the shrinking of the labour force is a serious economic challenge for Canada, as it is for other countries,” Harper said at the time.

Federal officials estimated Harper’s decision would save $10.8-billion a year once the plan was fully implemented.

However, in 2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made good on his election promise and overturned the former Conservative government’s decision.

Since the 1970’s, international trade has continuously been promoted by leaders of developed countries and economic agents.

Several theoretical frameworks have been put forward to explain the benefits of a free trade environment, from Adam Smith’s concept of absolute advantages to more recent firm-based theories. However, the reality is much more nuanced, especially after China’s entry into the WTO in 2001, and questions arise as to the sustainability of the current model.

While the development of free trade activity could be regarded as a sound intellectual victory for Western capitalism, such trend has paradoxically weakened several countries in Europe and America.

The first side effect of economic globalism in the West has been the retreat of manufacturing in several economies like the United States, with durable unemployment issues as a result. Beyond social impacts, Canadian author Vaclav Smil argued that a manufacturing decline is structurally problematic as it affects the ability of a country to innovate on the long run.

The second reason to be skeptical about international trade is the multiplication of structural imbalances in the global economy, with unstainable surpluses and deficits everywhere. An economy displaying a growing trade deficit is getting poorer with respect to foreign economies, leading to a financial and/or social crisis in the end. To understand that, it is necessary to imagine a country whose currency is backed by something tangible (e.g. gold). In that case, a deficit means that the country owes metals to the rest of the world. Of course, current account deficits can be offset by financial inflows, but as there’s no free lunch in economics, that should not be seen as a long-term solution.

Last but not least, the rise of global trade and countries specialization has led to a system full of frictions and highly vulnerable to shocks (whatever their size). This has been well documented and explained by research in complex systems including econophysics (see It’s the Complexity Stupid). One could imagine a local natural disaster disrupting the global car industry supply chain (e.g. Japan earthquake and tsunami 2011), a small shipping incident blocking a large part of maritime trade (e.g. Suez Canal obstruction 2021), or even a tiny pathogen freezing the global economy for several months (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic).

In other words, a problem affecting local factories in some regions of Asia or mining facilities in Chile is likely to impact most economies in the world. In other words, the more specialized countries are in terms of economic production, the more dependent on foreign production they become, and the more vulnerable to distant events they will be.

True, Germany exists as does Russia, but I contend that both are new nations. Neither is perfect, but neither claims a political heritage to the nation that preceded it.

Pathological policy errors flowed inexorably from a skewed view of reality in both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Once this view of reality was deemed to be above criticism, its champions adopted increasingly tyrannical policies. Nazi Germany's Aryan Supremacy racial theories seemingly justified the murder of the handicapped, Gypsies, those of alternative sexual orientation, Jews, and Slavs. In the name of birthing a new Soviet Man, the Soviet Union murdered anyone who stood in the way of its program to confiscate all businesses, including small farms. When businesses and farms failed, there was no soul searching as to root causes that might lie in Marxism itself. No, the problem had to be saboteurs within society. Reality, you see, was what the Soviet Union's Politburo said it was. As the vanguard of the proletariat, the Politburo stood outside society and saw its flaws. Those who disagreed were blind to this insight and had to be eliminated.

We parsed through hundreds of the most-followed accounts on multiple platforms to narrow down the top influencers across social media as of April 2021.

Sources include trackers of the most followers on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok, verified directly on site and with social media tracker Socialblade.

The results? A top 50 list of social media influencers consisting of athletes, musicians, politicians, and other personalities.

Unsurprisingly, celebrities reign supreme on social media. As of April 2021, soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was the most-followed person on social media with almost 500 million total followers.

But there are other illuminating highlights, such as the global reach of music. With large and diverse fanbases, artists account for half of the top 50 largest social media followings.

Also notable is the power of Instagram, which was the biggest platform for 67% of the top 50 social media influencers. This includes hard-to-categorize celebrities like the Kardashians and Jenners, which turned reality TV and social media fame into business and media empires.

The Most Followers on Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube

However, it’s not only celebrities that dominate social media.

Personalities that started on one social media platform and developed massive followings include TikTok’s most-followed star Charli D’Amelio and YouTubers Whindersson Nunes Batista, Germán Garmendia, and Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg.

Politicians were also prominent influencers. Former U.S. President Barack Obama has the most followers on Twitter, and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has more than 175 million followers across social media.

The RNA sequence of the vaccine as well as the spike protein target interaction were analyzed for the potential to convert intracellular RNA binding proteins TAR DNA binding protein (TDP-43) and Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) into their pathologic prion conformations. The results indicate that the vaccine RNA has specific sequences that may induce TDP-43 and FUS to fold into their pathologic prion confirmations.

The paper goes on to state that “The folding of TDP-43 and FUS into their pathologic prion confirmations is known to cause ALS, front temporal lobar degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological degenerative diseases.”

In other words, the Pfizer mRNA vaccine may have the capability of turning brains to mush.

Far from prompting any pause or calls for re-evaluation of the Pfizer vaccine, the media has largely ignored the paper. A few of the more notorious “fact check” websites have pronounced that the conclusions of this study are false.

According to USA Today, which appears to be possibly the only national mainstream media to have covered this article, “Contrary to Classen’s claim, there is no evidence to suggest the COVID-19 vaccines can cause prion diseases or other neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.”

USA Today cites as their source for this the fact that the FDA did not mention prion disease as an effect of the vaccine. USA Today also mentions that the CDC’s VAERS website does not mention prion disease as resulting from the Pfizer vaccine. However, as prion disease takes years to develop, it is hardly likely that the VAERS website would contain this information. The article goes on to trash the journal in which the article appeared, quoting a Dr. Angela Rassmussen with Georgetown University as stating that it is “not a reputable or reliable journal.”

The article charges that “Microbiology & Infectious Diseases is an open-access journal published by SciVision Publishers, a potential predatory publisher intended for profit rather than academic peer-review.” In fact, SciVision Publishers makes its content freely available without charge, while charging the authors a publication fee.

There are other statements intending to “slur the messenger” by the fact check sites. PolitiFact stated that Classen speculates on his website that the coronavirus pandemic “is actually a bioweapon attack and may be linked to the U.S. anthrax attack of 2001.”

PolitiFact states that “He also included that claim — which PolitiFact has repeatedly debunked — in the body of his research article.”

PolitiFact has gotten this wrong. Way, way wrong. There is a clear nexus with the attacks of September 11 and a bioweapons agenda. This nexus manifested itself in a number of ways. For one, the infamous Patriot Act, passed in the wake of 9/11, contains a little discussed section, enumerated as 817, The Expansion of the Biological Weapons Statute, which gives the US government immunity from violating its own bioweapons laws. This nexus between the events of September 2001 and a bioweapons agenda is discussed extensively in my upcoming book At the Breaking Point of History: How Decades of US Duplicity Enabled the Pandemic.

Apart from the propagandistic slur above, PolitiFact also charges that Classen provides no evidence of a relationship between the Pfizer vaccine and prion disease, stating “All he includes is a three-sentence methods section summarizing an unspecified analysis of the coronavirus vaccine.”

Occult monuments are absolutely everywhere. Often they are before our eyes and we don’t even see them.

Monuments transcend spoken language, conveying messages without the use of words. They can be understood without explanation by most, and for some they hold a deeper meaning.

Monuments are essentially symbols on display and most architecture incorporates a variety of symbology ranging from subtle to overt. “The Illuminati has designed its many rituals, signs, codes, symbols, architecture, art and other devices so that the world around us has become a veritable Grand Theatre of the Occult.” (Texe Marrs, Codex Magica)

Since all of the world’s governments, major corporations, the media, and any organization of importance are in the hands of the illuminati, it is without wonder that our man-made environment is designed with their long-term goals in mind.

The obelisk, an ancient Egyptian symbol, is the most prominent occult monument. The obelisk literally represents the male phallus, but esoterically represents the power and magic that these people ever hope to wield. It symbolizes the generative force; the God power that the Illuminati strive for.

The CN tower, a well known Canadian landmark, though it strays from the textbook obelisk formula (4 sided, tapered to the top, capped with a pyramid, made of a single piece of stone) is nothing more than a giant phallus. Like many of their symbols it is paired with another to enhance its effect. Rogers Centre, formerly called the SkyDome, is its compliment located adjacent the tower, represents the feminine, the fertile womb. The pairing results in a detailed message that impacts the viewer, whether or not he is aware.

Down the street, in the middle of the Queen Elizabeth Expressway is an unlabeled monument, referred to as the river arch; a giant stainless steel arch flanked by a pair of pillars.

The same effect can be achieved with an arch or a pool to represent the feminine, as in Winnipeg’s Union station. This grand Masonic style building has a dramatic arched entranced flanked by a pair of double pillars, (pillars being essentially obelisks in multiple, usually incorporated into architecture) and finally capped with a domed roof. Also in Winnipeg, the Volunteer Monument, though originally all alone, now stands beside the domed planetarium.

Then there is the statue of a police woman putting the capstone on a pyramid in front of the Toronto Police Station. The station is flanked on the north side by two more occult statues, including a boy pulling an obelisk mounted on a wagon.

All of these erections (pun intended) are a message to the subconscious of the oblivious as well as to the adept.

BREAKING: Calgary police arrest Fairview Baptist Church pastor Tim Stephens

Pastor Tim Stephens of Fairview Baptist Church in Calgary has been under police and Alberta Health Services surveillance for months, because he refuses to limit his congregation and force them into masks. In our previous visits to the church, Alberta Health Services and the Calgary police and bylaw can be seen interrupting church services.

Stephens has been ticketed in the past for violating public health orders and is represented by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms. Last week, there was a heavy police presence at his church — just one day after Pastor Artur Pawlowski was taken into custody for breaching the restraining order Alberta Health Services got against unnamed Jane and John Does for organizing non-compliant illegal public gatherings.

Today, after services at Fairview Baptist, Calgary police came to Tim's church and arrested him in front of his wife and crying children. Police would not tell Rebel News' Kian “K2” Simone why they were detaining him. The restraining order that led to the arrest of Pastor Artur has since been amended to only apply to the named parties in the order — Chris Scott of the Whistle Stop Cafe and Glen Caritt of United We Roll. As of now, it's not known why or where Stephens has been taken.

James Kitchen, the lawyer from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, who is representing Fairview Baptist Church pastor Tim Stephens, says that Calgary police arrested Stephens using an Alberta Health Services order that is no longer in effect.

On March 6, Alberta Health Services went to court, in secret, and got a restraining order against Chris Scott, the owner of the Whistle Stop Cafe, Glen Carritt of United We Roll and unnamed John and Jane Does — in other words, the rest of us Albertans.

Nobody in the province was allowed to organize, attend or promote “illegal public gatherings” of greater than five that did not social distance or force people to wear masks. Chris Scott was arrested and held for three days under that order. Pastor Artur Pawlowski was also arrested in Calgary under that order and held for two days.

But lawyers for the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms had that order amended, as you can see here. The order was modified so that it only applied to Chris Scott, Glen Carritt or anyone acting on their behalf.

Kitchen said that Calgary police arrested Pastor Tim Stephens under this order, and that “Tim's arrest is unlawful in every sense of the word. Even more so than Artur's was,” adding that the pastor will “spend the night in jail unless [Calgary police] release him.” Kitchen said he'd start the fight for the pastor's release in the morning.

Anti-lockdown protests held across Canada over the weekend

On Saturday, Canada’s major cities saw multiple peaceful demonstrations against lockdowns.

Large demonstrations occurred in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, London, Winnipeg and Vancouver and Ottawa as part of “Worldwide Freedom Day,” a global campaign against lockdowns that saw several dozen protests around the world.

Just days earlier, leftist politicians Jagmeet Singh and Naheed Nenshi claimed, without evidence, that anti-lockdown protesters were associated with far-right extremists.

Toronto saw a record-breaking anti-lockdown protest. A large and diverse group of demonstrators marched in downtown Toronto while chanting anti-lockdown slogans.

Police estimate that 5,000 people attended. One person was arrested after an altercation with police.

On May 13, the Ford government extended Ontario’s stay-at-home order for another two weeks. Despite the number of new daily cases declining steadily for the past three weeks, Ford claimed the extension was necessary to ensure a “most normal” summer.

Video taken from Queen’s Park shows thousands of people gathered to hear speeches. Among the attendees was People’s Party leader Maxime Bernier.

“We have a choice, and choice is between freedom and authoritarian government,” Bernier told the crowd.

“I choose freedom.”

In Montreal, anti-lockdown demonstrators held three separate marches, with the groups meeting to hold a large rally. Similar demonstrations took place in Vancouver.

In Ottawa, hundreds of anti-lockdown protesters marched through downtown and held a rally on Parliament Hill. According to police there were around 500 attendees.

While many anti-lockdown protests were able to continue without law enforcement intervening, in some parts of Canada, protesters were not able to protest freely. On Friday, a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge granted the province’s government an injunction to stop Canadians from protesting COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns.

As reported by True North fellow Lindsay Shepherd, provincial and federal governments have been unable to answer whether anti-lockdown protests actually lead to COVID-19 outbreaks.

Pro-Palestine protestors clashed with pro-Israel supporters at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto on Saturday as tensions in the Middle East continue to increase.

The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) said that it was organizing protests in more than 25 cities across North America, including Toronto.

The PYM said in a press release that they were taking to the streets to demand an immediate end to the “illegal expulsion” of Palestinians in Jerusalem and the bombing of Gaza.

“Palestinians and their allies demand that the U.S., Canada, and global community end all complicity in the Israeli occupation and colonialism by ceasing military funding, diplomatic cover to Israel, and repression of proponents of Palestinian rights,” said the PYM.

Thousands of pro-Palestine protestors attended the demonstration in Toronto. Protestors chanted slogans such as “Free Palestine” and “Allahu Akbar,” waved Palestinian flags and held signs with statements showing their support.

A small counterprotest was held nearby by the Jewish Defense League (JDL), a pro-Israel group. A heavy police presence separated the pro-Israel protestors from the pro-Palestinian ones.

However, as tensions increased, the pro-Palestine protestors allegedly surrounded the pro-Israel protesters and threw water bottles, eggs and other objects at the smaller group.

Police officers escorted pro-Israel protestors out after objects started to be thrown at them. Fights broke out between the two groups and between the officers who wanted to keep them separated.

At least three pro-Israel protesters were injured, and one elderly Jewish man sustained serious injuries.

Multiple Jewish Canadian organizations, including B’nai Brith Canada and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, said in a statement that the violence taking place at this protest was disturbing.

“We condemn in the strongest terms these brazen acts of assault, intimidation, and hate targeting members of Toronto’s Jewish community and supporters of Israel,” said the Jewish organizations in a joint statement.

“There is absolutely no justification for political violence in the streets of Toronto, whatever one’s cause may be.”

Ontario Premier Ford also condemned the violent protests. In a tweet on Sunday, Ford said the violent incidents should be investigated by the police.

“Discrimination or hatred of any kind against any community in our province should never be tolerated,” tweeted the Premier.

The battle between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas continues to escalate. The violent clashes have led to at least 126 people killed in Gaza and 7 people in Israel. Since Monday, Hamas has fired over 2,000 rockets into Israel.

“This note is being written in the midst of a significant missile attack from Gaza so please forgive my brevity. I am trying to get this out before I have to run to another location.”

That was an email I received from a colleague earlier this week who is working in Israel. That country has fallen into a civil war against the terrorist insurgency group Hamas.

War is horrendous, and by nature both sides do terrible things to defend themselves and stop their enemy. People are killed, communities are destroyed and civilians get caught in the crossfire.

That being said, the two sides of this war are not equivalent.

On the one side, Israel is a liberal democracy trying to ensure peace, stability and freedom for its citizens. But no matter how much it tries to appease the other side — through negotiations, concessions, land transfers, good will and aid — it remains at war with its neighbours. That’s because the other side is controlled by Hamas, a terrorist organization whose stated goals have been described as a genocide against Jews.

The mood in Israel is somber, with social media full of reports of Israeli families (both Arabs and Jews) hiding for cover, praying for the violence to stop and condemning the war.

The mood in Gaza by contrast is celebratory. In videos posted online, you can hear people cheering and shouting “Allahu Akbar” while rockets are fired at Israeli communities.

While Israel targets terrorist agents and infrastructure, Hamas intentionally imbeds its military bases in densely populated civilian areas. They fire rockets from apartment buildings and maintain headquarters beneath a hospital.

Israel goes to painstaking efforts to avoid civilian casualties — they send text messages and drop leaflets begging civilians to leave — despite Hamas’s best efforts to create a human shield around its operatives.

Hamas, on the other hand, deliberately targets Jewish civilians while also putting Arabs at risk. My colleague wrote an email from a bomb shelter because Hamas’s strategy is to fire off hundreds of rockets simultaneously to overwhelm Israel’s Iron Dome defense system that shoots down rockets before they can hit Israeli apartment buildings.

Many of the Arab casualties in this war come from Hamas rockets that are misfired or fall short of hitting Jewish neighborhoods and accidentally land on Arab neighborhoods instead, a crucial fact that is often left out of media reports.

You wouldn’t know any of this from watching CBC or listening to the Trudeau government.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s foreign affairs minister released a statement that can only be described as equivocal. It reads like a Conservative press release condemning Hamas, followed by an NDP statement demonizing Israel that had been stapled together.

The Trudeau government fails to show any sort of leadership, and instead speaks out of both sides of its mouth and avoids taking a side.

While Trudeau cannot muster the courage to condemn terrorist aggression, Canada’s state broadcaster goes even further in promoting an anti-Israel narrative.

A report on the CBC National perpetuated a lie by saying Israel was the aggressor and Hamas was merely firing rockets back in self-defense. This inverts the timeline, as Hamas began firing hundreds of rockets into Israel 24 hours before Israel struck back.

Likewise, CBC correspondents have been caught parroting terrorist talking points.

One reporter called Gaza an “open air prison” — a common trope used to demonize Israel, who conceded the land to Arabs in 2005 only for them to expel all Jews and create a safe-haven for terrorists. Another CBC reporter justified Arabs throwing rocks at police, and neglected to mention that Arabs threw Molotov cocktails as well as bricks or that Israeli police were responding to Arab violence, not vice versa.

As classical liberal philosopher and statesman Edmund Burke once said, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

If Canada remains silent, or worse, portrays terrorist aggressors as victims, we are allowing evil to triumph.

May 17, 2021 (Children’s Health Defense) — Since the first days of the declared coronavirus pandemic, doctors faithful to their Hippocratic Oath have been searching for — and identifying — effective COVID-19 treatments.

In mid-November, Dr. Peter McCullough, vice chief of internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center, and three other experts outlined safe and available treatments for the Senate’s influential Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee.

University of Wisconsin critical care specialist Dr. Pierre Kory followed up with more discussion of viable COVID treatments at a Dec. 8 appearance before the same committee.

However, as Children’s Health Defense Chairman Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. observed during a March 2021 conversation with McCullough, “we’ve seen this very strange conflict … that many of those treatments that could save lives, instead of being promoted and investigated and studied by the health authorities, are instead being sabotaged and made … inaccessible.”

The government’s “near complete” lack of guidance and research on treatment options — “apart from vaccines” — is, according to Kory, “unconscionable.”

The tragic fallout of this government strategy is now becoming apparent. In a recent working paper analyzing the determinants of COVID-19 fatalities, the authors — Michigan State University economics professor Mark Skidmore and co-author Hideki Toya — estimated “if the U.S. had made [hydroxychloroquine] widely available early on, 80,000 to 100,000 lives could have been saved.”

McCullough had already reached similar conclusions when he told senators in November the U.S. “could have saved half of the lives lost” if COVID treatment protocols had not been squelched.

By March, McCullough had revised his estimate upward, asserting that “as many as 85% of COVID deaths could have been prevented through early treatment.”

Paving the way for Emergency Use Authorization

As early as March and April 2020, doctors began communicating — with cautious optimism — their experiences using interventions with years or decades of safe use behind them, including the promising repurposing of well-known drugs (for example, hydroxychloroquine, the inhaled steroid budesonide and ivermectin) as well as positive results from judicious use of supplements and therapies such as vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B1 (thiamine), zinc, iodine and nebulized hydrogen peroxide. They also noted that some of these interventions functioned equally well as prophylaxis.

For example, a new review of randomized controlled trial evidence for ivermectin and COVID-19, published by Kory and co-authors in the American Journal of Therapeutics, points to “large, statistically significant reductions” in deaths as well as improvements in clinical recovery. The results, say these authors, clearly indicate that “an oral agent effective in all phases of COVID-19 has been identified.”

According to Kory, government agencies that refuse to recommend ivermectin as a treatment option “are not keeping up with the data,” which “have done nothing but deepen and become more consistent.”

Pushing back, some judges have ordered hospitals to give ivermectin to COVID patients who have exhausted the few treatment options that government agencies are willing to endorse. In one such case, an 80-year-old woman made a “complete turnaround” in less than 48 hours.

As for hydroxychloroquine, the database of COVID-19 hydroxychloroquine studies now numbers nearly 300. These studies consistently show positive effects with early treatment and appropriate dosing.

There are many indications that micronutrient deficiencies — including deficiencies of vitamin D and vitamin B1 — may make some individuals vulnerable to COVID and its complications.

Alberta’s governing party kicks out two parliamentarians for opposing lockdowns

EDMONTON, Alberta, May 17, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — Fellow caucus members booted two politicians critical of COVID-related lockdowns and other restrictions from the United Conservative Party (UCP) led by Alberta Premier Jason Kenney.

The expulsion of Todd Loewen, the now-former UCP MLA for Alberta’s Central-Peace-Notley riding, came about after he posted a letter on May 13 on his Facebook page, stating, “The people of Alberta have lost trust in this government because you have not brought needed balance and reason to the discussion. Albertans and our UCP party members deserve better.”

“We did not unite around blind loyalty to one man. And, while you promoted unity, it is clear that unity is falling apart. I know that many Albertans, including myself, no longer have confidence in your leadership. I thank you for your service, but I am asking that you resign so that we can begin to put the province back together again.”

As a result of Loewen’s letter, Kenney called an “emergency caucus meeting” yesterday. During the meeting, which went on for hours, a vote was held among UCP MLAs to decide the fate of Loewen, as well as Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes, who has also been a vocal critic of Kenney’s COVID-19 lockdowns.

After a two-hour vote, Loewen and Barnes were booted from the UCP caucus.

UCP whip Mike Ellis stated, “There is simply no room in our caucus for those who continually seek to divide our party and undermine government leadership, especially at this critical juncture for our province.”

According to the Western Standard, there was an “open” and “heated” discussion among MLAs in the meeting, with Loewen reported to have “pleaded” with Kenney to end lockdowns and “do the right thing.”

In a statement posted after being expelled from the UCP caucus, Barnes said that he was “saddened by today’s events, but not surprised,” adding that many members of the caucus “have tried, in vain to help the Premier make better decisions in recent weeks and months.”

“Today, the Premier’s promises of servant leadership, grassroots democracy and political transparency were again abandoned in favor of caucus discipline above all else. However, I am no longer shackled by the chains of caucus discipline, especially when the goals of the Premier do not align with those of my constituents,” wrote Barnes.

Back in March, Barnes told LifeSiteNews that it was a “mistake” for governments to not list religious practice as “essential” when locking the population down with COVID health orders.

“In the communication, it has been forgotten how important our spiritual health is, our mental health is our physical health, and our economic health. And I’m absolutely a believer in freedoms of all kinds, our freedom of expression, and our freedom of speech, and our freedom of religion. Absolutely,” Barnes said.

Recently, in an unprecedented political move, 17 UCP MLAs blasted their party leader and premier for taking the province back into a severe COVID-19 lockdown.

Loewen was one of the MLAs who signed the letter. His May 13 letter does not directly mention Kenney’s continued COVID-19 restrictions, which are some of strictest in Canada, but Loewen has spoken in the past in opposition to some measures.

In his letter, he blasted Kenney for failed leadership, lack of transparency, and for not advocating for Alberta’s oil and gas sector.

OTTAWA, Canada, May 17, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Speaking at the Canadian National March for Life Youth Conference, Joseph Backholm described how the issue of abortion has been transformed into a political one, when in fact it is part of a “spiritual battle,” and based on opposition to a Biblical world view.

Backholm is the Senior Fellow for Biblical Worldview and Strategic Engagement at the Family Research Council based in Washington, D.C., where he combines extensive legal, political, and policy experience with a love for the way Biblical truth cultivates human flourishing.

Addressing the live-streamed Youth Conference following the 2021 National March for Life in Canada, he outlined the manner in which abortion has been portrayed as a political conflict, when in fact it is a religious matter, which has its roots in adherence, or rejection, of God’s word in the Bible.

When political issues aren’t political issues

Backholm noted that the political label is the reason it is often hard to get religious bodies to engage in matters of abortion, homosexuality, or gender ideology. But, he argued, the conflict is in fact not about politics, but about reality itself, and is based upon conflicting worldviews.

He pointed to the Bible, mentioning that the book of Genesis shows what God intended the world to be in its perfect form. “Male and female He created them” read the opening chapters.

But there is no extra explanation about the relation between being male and the possibilities of feeling female, or being female but identifying as male, as transgender ideology proposes. There is simply the definition of male and female.

Scripture also adds that God gave a directive to be fruitful and multiply, as well as to rule and subdue the earth. This is yet another divine command which is rejected by the abortion advocates, explained Backholm, as they call for contraception and the use of condoms in order to “save the planet.”

The argument of “my body, my choice” is commonly used in defence of the abortion position, yet Backholm suggested that the catchphrase was also underlying the LGBT arguments in defense of same-sex relations, gender ideology and transgenderism, assisted suicide, and prostitution.

Backholm argued that underlying all these issues is the belief that one is allowed to act in whatever manner will make a person happy, and hence the mantra of “my body, my choice” in all such matters, not just abortion.

All these issues are referred to as political issues. However, politics is a “process” not an “issue,” commented Backholm. Politics has become a place where we debate competing views of reality, he explained. In the political realm the Biblical world view is placed in opposition to the secular world view.

St. Paul’s epistle to the Galatians calls men to walk in the fruits of the Holy Spirit, but warns that humanity can easily fall into being ruled by the “deeds of the flesh,” instead of adhering to the rule of God.

Hundreds of thousands demand freedom in second global protest against COVID restrictions

May 17, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – In over 40 countries, people in their hundreds, their thousands, and even hundreds of thousands, came together last Saturday to protest against COVID-19 related restrictions in the second global protest of its kind.

While many such protests have been organized previously, Saturday’s event was coordinated by World-Wide Demonstration, which started as an action group in Germany in the spring of 2020. The group held its first global protest on the one-year anniversary of the start of the restrictions on March 20.

Protestors all across the globe, in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, South Africa, much of Europe, Argentina, the U.S., and Canada, took to the streets to oppose COVID-related lockdowns, mandatory vaccines, vaccine passports, and the unreliable COVID PCR tests.

While almost entirely ignored by the mainstream media, the size of the protests was hard to miss, with some cities seeing over a hundred thousand gathered to protest against the restrictions.

LifeSiteNews database manager Meghan Mulherin attended the rally in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and mentioned that even in this small town, 75 people attended. They received such a positive reaction from passers-by that a nearby temporary COVID injection site moved away from the protest due to the public support for the protests.

Despite the strict lockdown restrictions currently in place, the streets were full in Toronto, with thousands of demonstrators chanting “Justin Trudeau’s got to go.” Some reports described the size of the event as “record-breaking.”

They were joined by their compatriots in Vancouver and Ottawa, who demanded “freedom,” and carried signs reading “no to tyranny.”

In London, Ontario, Pastor Henry Hildebrandt of the Church of God in Aylmer attended the rally. A LifeSite sustainer present commented that “after his speech, one of the organizers noted that there were officers waiting on the side lines who perhaps were going to arrest him. This after everyone had affirmed support for law enforcement and for the true purpose of their mission. So, they got a good scolding with a reminder of what that mission is.”

Pastor Hildebrandt has been subjected to increasing governmental persecutions as a result of the restrictions currently placed on worship in Ontario. The day before the protest, a judge ordered that the doors of Hildebrandt’s church be locked for defying provincial lockdown rules, and that the church, pastor, and assistant pastor be fined a total of $48,000 in penalties, as well as pay $69,000 in legal fees.

In London, U.K., protestors thronged outside the left-leaning and pro-lockdown BBC, chanting “shame on you,” which the famous news outlet managed to ignore, and instead placed stories about cattle and a lost whale on its “Must see” page. It was estimated that London itself had over 100,000 protestors present on the day.

Nor did the damp weather prevent those in Scotland from their own protest, as Edinburgh’s streets saw some two hundred people express their displeasure with country’s lockdown.

Protestors took the streets across other European countries, as well, with video footage documenting the extent of the opposition to restrictions in Croatia, Norway, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Austria, Serbia, Italy, Germany, and Ireland. World-Wide Demonstration’s Telegram channel also featured videos and images of the protests, with footage being sent in from around the world.

A press release issued before the event stated that “excessive coronavirus restrictions must come to an end, and all state of emergency declarations enabling these measures must be repealed.”

“We cannot allow our Human Rights to be re–packaged as Human Privileges, to be conditioned upon compliance with Authoritarianism,” stated the group.

This message was echoed by former Pfizer Vice President Dr. Michael Yeadon, who has been speaking out about the truth of the experimental injections and the lies being spread by governments about COVID-19. Yeadon addressed the protest held in Canterbury, U.K., urging those present not to be afraid of the virus.

“Once you’ve survived it, which you nearly always do — 99.8% — you’re immune. None of these variants are going to catch you out, you don’t need to be vaccinated against a common … respiratory virus like this.”

Numerous Canadian journalists have signed an open letter on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict which characterizes Israel’s actions in the region as an “ethnic cleansing.”

The letter, dated to May 14, 2021 is titled “An open letter to Canadian newsrooms on covering Israel-Palestine” has since received over 1,500 signatures from activists and journalists, including ones employed by CBC, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, CTV News, Maclean’s, Yahoo News Canada and Global News.

The letter goes on to criticize the “lack of nuanced” coverage regarding the conflict.

“Some groups believe the attacks amount to an ‘ethnic cleansing.’ It should be covered as such,” the letter says.

“It’s time for Canadian newsrooms to carry out the necessary due diligence and report on this region with nuance and context. For that to happen, Canadian newsrooms will have to first acknowledge their failings.”

The pro-Israel media advocacy group Honest Reporting Canada has called the letter “partisan” and “one-sided.”

“At its core, a fundamental principle of honest and ethical journalism is to be objective and to be politically neutral. The individuals who signed this anti-Israel letter have demonstrated that they are more interested in engaging in advocacy journalism and in actively taking sides, Palestinian over Israeli, rather than being neutral observers,” wrote Honest Reporting Canada Executive Director Mike Fegelman.

“If these journalists and news organizations were maliciously added to this letter without their consent, they must publicly disavow this letter immediately.”

Over the weekend, dueling Israeli-Palestinian demonstrations took place in many major Canadian cities including Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

According to reports, some of the protests erupted in violence including a rally in Montreal where Palestinian counter-protestors set off fireworks and attempted to clash with Israeli supporters.

TDSB wants to rename Queen Victoria Public School, citing “racist legacy”

The Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) Planning and Priorities Committee wants to begin the process to rename Queen Victoria Public School citing how some schools in the City are named after people with a “racist legacy.”

According to the request, the committee recommends a school renaming committee be formed to begin the name changing process.

“The School Council and the Black Student Success Committee have expressed an interest to begin the process of changing the school name. Under our current policies, a request of this nature can be initiated from a school or local community,” claims the request.

“The response from School Council has been excitement at the possibility of being able to engage in the school renaming process.The desire to have a new name is representative of a ‘fresh start’ for the school community amongst a range of other positive changes.”

The request, which is due to be up for consideration by the Board on May 19, 2021, cites an April 21 motion titled “Renaming Schools Celebrating the Diversity of Toronto” to justify the request for a change.

The motion notes that “few schools are named after celebrated Indigenous or Black Leaders or Leaders of colour” adding that “some schools names do not reflect the values of contemporary Toronto” and that “some schools are named after people with a racist legacy.”

True North reached out to the TDSB for clarification and comment on the request but did not receive a response by the time this article was published.

According to the school’s website, Queen Victoria Public School was founded in 1887, at a time when Queen Victoria was the reigning monarch of Canada. The school was eventually rebuilt in 1999. The school serves students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

Last year, the school was at the centre of a racial controversy after a number of parents highlighted concerns about a threatening letter being sent to a black administrator at the school.

Following the incident, the TDSB was criticized for not doing enough to react to the incident and eventually the Board issued an apology for its handling of the matter.

Currently, the City of Toronto is also in the process of evaluating place names which it views as having problematic and racist histories.

Alberta to relax some quarantine and isolation requirements for vaccinated people

The Alberta government will soon be announcing relaxed quarantine and self-isolation guidelines for vaccinated Albertans, Premier Jason Kenney said.

Kenney alluded to a forthcoming announcement at a press conference Monday afternoon.

“I anticipate later this week we’ll be announcing potentially a relaxation of self-isolation and quarantine requirements with respect to people–based on whether they’ve had a first or second dose of the vaccine–that will reflect the lower level of threat, or lower level of risk that they pose,” Kenney said.

Current provincial guidelines require Albertans who have been exposed to COVID-19 to quarantine for 14 days even if they have tested negative for the virus themselves. While Alberta does not mandate a quarantine for interprovincial travel, Albertans are subject to the federally mandated 14-day quarantine if they enter Alberta from outside the country.

Kenney ruled out further exemptions to public health guidelines for vaccinated people, such as allowing them to gather with other vaccinated people, saying that the speed of Alberta’s vaccination rollout makes it “simpler” to keep the same restrictions in place for everyone.

“Our overall vaccine numbers are now moving so quickly that I think it would be a lot simpler for us to focus just on overall population immunity,” Kenney said, noting that 50% of eligible Albertans will have been vaccinated with one dose by tomorrow, with 800,000 appointments booked.

“If we were to tie specific public health measures to whether you’ve been vaccinated, like, let’s say, wearing a mask, then what happens?” Kenney said. “Do employers have to go around and validate whether the people who are not wearing masks have been vaccinated? Did they get their first dose? When was it? It creates a huge amount of administrative and enforcement complexity and probably friction and unforeseen problems that we’d rather not get into.”

Kenney’s concerns were echoed by Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw who said that lifting restrictions specifically for vaccinated people would require Albertans to disclose private health information.

“If we were to create different rules for people who were vaccinated and those who were not, it would require the production of some kind of proof of immunity or disclosure of personal health information for the purposes of that activity, and there’s been a very clear direction set in this province that that kind of disclosure of health information will not be required of Albertans,” Hinshaw said.

There are 186 patients with COVID-19 being treated in Alberta’s intensive care units, which is a record high for the province, Alberta Health Services CEO Dr. Verna Yiu said Monday.

A church in Weston, Nova Scotia and seven of its congregants have been hit with heavy fines for gathering to worship on Sunday.

The Nova Scotia RCMP have issued a fine of $11,622.50 to the Weston Christian Fellowship Church, alongside fines of $2,422 to seven complicit churchgoers.

This is the third straight Sunday that the RCMP have targeted the Weston church. On May 2 they issued a warning that the church was in violation of the province’s Health Protection Act and then on May 9 issued identical fines to both the church and 26 of its attendees.

These fines are the latest in a series of targeted police actions against Christian churches in Canada. These include police seizures of GraceLife Church near Edmonton, Alberta and the Church of God in Aylmer, Ontario as well as the arrests of pastors James Coates, Artur Pawlowski and Tim Stephens in Alberta.

While the enforcement of public health restrictions in Nova Scotia has previously been restricted to issuing fines, a recent Supreme Court injunction grants police additional powers to arrest anyone not in compliance with the province’s public health orders.

Pastor Tim Stephens is set to be released from jail in Calgary after the paperwork is filed to allow for his release.

Stephens, the pastor at Fairview Baptist Church, has been holding church services that do not conform to the hard cap on attendance at places of worship.

He was taken into police custody Sunday after services for breach of a May 6 Alberta Health Services court order that banned the organization, attendance at, or promotion of “illegal public gatherings” of more than five people.

That court order was initially granted against Chris Scott of the Whistle Stop Café, Glen Carritt of United We Roll and unnamed Jane and John Does — potentially putting every single Albertan at risk of being held in jail for contempt of court for being in a group of six people. Calgary's Pastor Art Pawlowski was arrested for breaking the order May 8 and held for two days. Chris Scott was arrested the same day and held for three days.

Justice Centre lawyers successfully argued May 13 to have the order amended to limit it to specifically those named in it — Scott and Carritt — throwing into question the legality of the arrest of Stephens two days later.

Today lawyer Leighton Grey — astute Rebel viewers might remember that name from the Pastor James Coates trial two weeks ago — from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms argued in Court of Queen's Bench in Calgary in front of Justice Adam Germain for the release of Pastor Tim Stephens.

Tim Stephens was granted release though the conditions of that release are unclear at the time of publication. Stephens will be going home to his wife and children tonight, however, his arrest was not overturned and he will be back in court June 16 in Calgary.

An Alberta UCP MLA is accusing Israel of “fundamental human rights violations” and calling on the Canadian government to intervene in its conflict with Hamas.

In a statement posted to Facebook Sunday evening, Calgary-Cross MLA Mickey Amery condemned what he called “violence against innocent and unarmed Palestinian worshippers and civilians.”

“The recent events unfolding at and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque are truly disturbing. The escalation and use of violence against innocent and unarmed Palestinian worshippers and civilians at Islam’s 3rd holiest site is indefensible,” Amery said. “The Government of Alberta does not have a foreign affairs policy, but as a humanitarian, a father, a husband and on behalf of those I represent as MLA for Calgary-Cross, I fully condemn this violence.”

Amery tagged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Marc Garneau, calling on the federal government “to speak up, to intervene, and to work to restore peace to the region immediately.”

Amery did not mention Israel by name in his post, or address any of Hamas’ violence towards Israel. His office did not respond to a request for comment asking if he also condemns Hamas.

At a press conference Monday afternoon, Premier Jason Kenney said Amery does not speak for him or the UCP.

“Provinces do not have foreign policies. Canada only has one foreign policy,” Kenney said. “My views about that conflict are very well known from my two decades in the federal parliament and my 10 years in the federal cabinet. But I make a very deliberate point of not freelancing into foreign policy.”

Kenney added that he was “concerned” about reports of anti-Semitic threats and behavior across the country, including in Edmonton. He referenced a video posted Monday morning by a Jewish man in Edmonton claiming he was questioned by a group of demonstrators as to whether any “Jews” lived in the area.

Amery wasn’t the only UCP official to criticize Israel. Calgary-North MLA Muhammad Yaseen said in a Facebook post it was “heartbreaking to see the escalating violence and breach of fundamental human rights in the Middle East, specifically in Gaza and the West Bank.”

“The loss of life of innocent men, women and children is never acceptable, even in war,” he said.

In response to an inquiry from True North as to whether Yaseen similarly condemns Hamas, an aide requested a phone number but did not call or otherwise respond.

Hamas militants continue to fire rockets into Israel as the latest flare-up reaches the one-week mark. Israel has been criticized by activists for airstrikes against Hamas targets in Gaza in residential areas, despite Israel’s provision of advance notice for evacuation.

A deputy to Spain's far-right Vox Party was locked out of his Twitter account last week for claiming that "a man cannot get pregnant".

Francisco José Contreras was banned from his account for 12 hours, according to Fox News, for making the argument and backing it up by stating men have "no uterus or eggs."

He was making the comments in response to an article about a transgender male who announced that they had "given birth" to a baby girl and were now a father.

Contreras said on Facebook that he was told by Twitter he had violated its policies on hate speech for his remarks. He also posted a diagram to illustrate his point.

He wrote on Facebook: "The hateful tweet (which I was forced to delete) was one that said: ′A man cannot get pregnant. A man has no womb or eggs'. You can see this is already fascist biology. Next time I'll try 2 + 2 = 4."

Twitter said that he violated the company's policy "against material that threatens, harasses, or fosters violence against other people on the basis of their race, ethnic origin, nationality, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religion, age, disability or disease."

The network warned: "Keep in mind that repeated defaults may lead to permanent suspension of your account. Go to Twitter now to fix the problem with your account."

Supporters of Contreras have started using the #AManCannotBePregnant hashtag to show support for him. Contreras concluded: "We will not yield to Twitter imposing a twisted (and anthropologically wrong) worldview. We will continue to speak the truth about human nature. Biological truth should not be regarded as ‘hate speech’. It’s biology, not bigotry."

Government Scientific Advisors Admit Using "Totalitarian" Fear Tactics To Control People During Pandemic, Report

Scientists in the UK working as advisors for the government have expressed regret for using what they now admit to be “unethical” and “totalitarian” methods of instilling fear in the population in order to control behaviour during the pandemic, according to a report.

The London Telegraph reports the comments made by Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour (SPI-B), a sub-committee of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) the government’s chief scientific advisory group.

The report quotes a briefing from March 2020, as the first lockdown was decreed, that stated the government should drastically increase “the perceived level of personal threat” that the virus poses because “a substantial number of people still do not feel sufficiently personally threatened”.

One scientist with the SPI-B admits that “In March [2020] the Government was very worried about compliance and they thought people wouldn’t want to be locked down. There were discussions about fear being needed to encourage compliance, and decisions were made about how to ramp up the fear.”

The unnamed scientist adds that “The way we have used fear is dystopian.”

The scientist further confessed that “The use of fear has definitely been ethically questionable. It’s been like a weird experiment. Ultimately, it backfired because people became too scared.”

Another separate scientist on the subcommittee professed “You could call psychology ‘mind control’. That’s what we do… clearly we try and go about it in a positive way, but it has been used nefariously in the past.”

Another scientist warned that “We have to be very careful about the authoritarianism that is creeping in,” adding “people use the pandemic to grab power and drive through things that wouldn’t happen otherwise.”

According to the report, another researcher with the group acknowledged that “Without a vaccine, psychology is your main weapon,” adding that “Psychology has had a really good epidemic, actually.”

Yet another scientist on the subcommittee stated that they have been “stunned by the weaponisation of behavioural psychology” over the past year, and warned that “psychologists didn’t seem to notice when it stopped being altruistic and became manipulative.”

“They have too much power and it intoxicates them”, the scientist further warned.

The comments were collected by author Laura Dodsworth, for her book A State of Fear, out today, that explores the government’s actions during the pandemic.

When the Telegraph asked the subcommittee for comment on the findings, SPI-B psychologist Gavin Morgan replied “Clearly, using fear as a means of control is not ethical. Using fear smacks of totalitarianism. It’s not an ethical stance for any modern government.”

Morgan added that “By nature I am an optimistic person, but all this has given me a more pessimistic view of people.”

Commenting on the revelations, Conservative Steve Baker, a member of a group of anti-lockdown MPs said “If it is true that the state took the decision to terrify the public to get compliance with rules, that raises extremely serious questions about the type of society we want to become.”

“Do I fear that Government policy today is playing into the roots of totalitarianism? Yes, of course it is,” Baker urged.

21-year-old medical student in Cincinnati dies a day after getting J&J vaccine

(Natural News) A student at the University of Cincinnati (UC) in Ohio died one day after he received Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.

John Foley, 21, was a junior studying medical sciences at UC. He got vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine on Saturday, April 10. He died the next day. His body was discovered shortly after his death by his roommates in their off-campus student housing. Foley’s roommates called the police immediately after discovering the body.

UC officials put out a statement saying it was unable to comment on the specifics of Foley’s case, but that it mourns his passing and extends its condolences to his family and friends.

Foley’s case comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration announced on Tuesday, April 13, that it was recommending a pause on the distribution of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine after reports of serious blood clotting problems. At least nine people have been identified with this condition, including one woman who died. Coroner denies connection between death and Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Coroner Lakshmi Kode Sammarco of the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has been in contact with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) regarding the terrible situation. The ODH said it has been monitoring the situation closely, and that Sammarco has already briefed ODH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff regarding her office’s preliminary findings.

Sammarco said Foley’s cause of death has not yet been determined, but a preliminary autopsy report filed by her office said some of the evidence points toward a heart or breathing issue.

Sammarco has also denied any connection between the vaccine and Foley’s death.

“I can tell you that we don’t see a direct connection between the vaccine administration the day before he passed away,” said Sammarco during a virtual news conference. “We have found some additional findings on autopsy that are more likely to be his cause of death. We don’t see a direct connection, but are investigating to see if there is an indirect connection.”

During the news conference, Sammarco was questioned repeatedly to offer specific details. She declined, claiming that she wanted her office to complete its investigation first.

Sammarco has also denied any evidence of blood clots or pulmonary emboli in Foley’s system. “On autopsy, we did not find any evidence of that,” she said.

Sammarco has also urged people to not let this incident make them afraid to take the coronavirus vaccine, although she also emphasized that it remains an individual choice.

Foley’s memorial service was held in Columbus, his hometown, on Friday. His family has stated through a spokesman that they are asking for privacy during this difficult time. The family also put out a statement, which reads:

“Our beloved son John Francis Foley is gone, and our family mourns the loss of this wonderful and sweet joy of our lives. While the facts remain unclear on how he died, we are rejoicing in how he lived: Caring for others, lit with God’s grace and generous to all. We know the doctors involved are doing their best. We must be patient, and we ask everyone else to be patient too. John was going to be a doctor, so this is what he would want.”

“We understand many want to know more about his death – we do too – but we ask people to understand that this is the time for our family to grieve in private. Thank you.”

Pastor Henry Hildebrandt's Church of God in Aylmer, Ontario has been in the news frequently throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The pastor and some of his congregants have been regular attendees, and occasional speakers, at protests held against government restrictions for many months now.

Recently, the Church of God has been battling in court for their right to practice their religion how they choose. Ultimately, a judge decided the church must be closed.

Toronto City Councillor Mike Layton alerted Toronto Police Services on Twitter to a weekend anti-lockdown rally despite repeatedly calling for the city to defund the police.

Layton accused the protesters of having “terrorized businesses and community members” and said that promoting protests should “have consequences” before tagging the official Toronto Police Services account.

“Promoting dangerous super spreader events should have consequences. They are not attempting to follow public health protocols and prompt the opposite. Also plenty of dangerous hate speech. They have terrorized businesses and community members long enough,” tweeted Layton on May 15.

In a follow-up tweet later that day, Layton wrote that organizers of the rallies and its promoters “should also be charged.”

On Saturday, thousands of supporters showed up to a planned “World Wide Rally for Freedom” in Toronto.

“I have regularly asked police why this is tolerated and they maintain [it] would be a greater public health threat if they began to issue tickets at these anti-mask rally’s. Councillors are not, nor should we, have the authority to direct the police on the enforcement of laws,” tweeted Layton.

At the same time as the Freedom Rally, there were dueling Palestinian and Israeli protests also taking place in the city. According to CP24, several individuals were arrested as a result of the rallies.

Layton has repeatedly joined his other councillors and Toronto Mayor John Tory to call for police to be defunded in accordance with the goals of the Black Lives Matter movement.

In February, a motion by Layton to explore defunding the city’s police was passed by Toronto City Council, with 22 councillors voting for and 4 voting against Layton’s motion.

“[We] are being over policed. We put too much responsibility on police & budget has ballooned. We need to defund and reinvest in communities & public safety measures best suited to the job. My motion called for transfer of more responsibilities for non-violent calls away from police,” tweeted Layton about the motion.

Ottawa school board hosts all-ages “drag storytime” and “decolonizing gender” event

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board’s (OCDSB) 16th Annual Rainbow Youth Forum will include a “drag storytime” and an event on “decolonizing gender” for this year’s virtual programming.

The forum will be taking place on May 20, 2021 and is open to students of “all ages.” According to the OCDSB, the forum is part of the OCDSB’s “Inclusive, Safe and Caring Programs” initiative.

“The 16th Annual Rainbow Youth Forum will include Decolonizing Gender, Drag Storytime, Workshops for Students and Staff, Chill Zone and a Rainbow Spring Fling Dance! This interactive virtual event will allow participants to ask questions and share their thoughts,” reads the event description.

“The RYF encourages safe and inclusive school environments by providing an opportunity to enhance knowledge and awareness about equity and diversity issues. The RYF aims to help build knowledge and understanding of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression, as well as homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.”

According to the event page, the forum is only open for registration for OCDSB students, parents and staff.

Drag storytimes are controversial events where adult men or women in drag attire read to children in the audience. Critics of the practice claim that the events serve to sexualize children and confuse their understanding of sexuality at an early age.

In 2019, a petition by the Canadian outlet LifeSiteNews and the pro-life group Personhood Alliance calling for the American Library Association to end the practice received over 100,000 signatures and prompted a reponse from the Association.

Government report calls for expansion of data collection from COVID Alert app

An interim report on the government’s COVID Alert app is calling for the government to “expand” its data collection to find new ways to deploy the app.

First reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, an advisory council’s report on the use of the COVID Alert app highlighted how data collected by the app could be used for other government projects beyond contact tracing.

“The Government of Canada has begun to broadly consider how the COVID Alert app could potentially extend beyond a government service to Canadians and the public health systems towards a tool that will also support Canadians and businesses in our economic, social and mental health recovery and restoration,” the report reads.

According to the most recent figures, 6,537,346 devices downloaded the app, or less than 19% of all devices.

Adoption of the app was significantly below government goals, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying the government hoped it would be downloaded on 50% of all devices.

In an effort to allay privacy concerns, Trudeau previously stated Canadians could trust the app to be safe, secure, and anonymous.

“It’s something you can just download and forget about because it’s completely anonymous, because it’s low maintenance, because it is completely respectful of your privacy including no location services or geotagging of any sort, people can be confident.”

The report acknowledges there could be privacy concerns from using data from the app, adding the federal government should consider the consequences of betraying public trust.

“The Council wants to continue to be engaged in discussions on collection of data, particularly the viability of data collection given privacy considerations,” the report says.

“The Council has indicated the Government of Canada must continue to carefully consider the risks of public perception and trust from a privacy perspective when considering additional data collection,” it continues.

“The expected outcomes associated with additional data collection should be clearly articulated to ensure it outweighs the risk.”

Former CRTC officials condemn Bill C-10 as “authoritarian”

Two former Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) commissioners and a former federal director of telecom policy signed onto a petition that criticized the Liberal government’s incoming internet regulation bill, C-10, as a step towards authoritarianism.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, included in the signatories to the petition were CRTC ex-chair Konrad von Finckenstein, former CRTC commissioner Timothy Denton and former director general of telecom policy at the Department of Industry Leaonard St-Aubin.

“It appears Canada is not immune to the growing trend of government intervention to curtail freedom and seek to control parts of the internet’s infrastructure in ways reminiscent of actions taken by authoritarian governments,” wrote the petition.

“We are Canadian internet policy and technical professionals writing as concerned experts and on behalf of all those who care about the future of a free and open internet.”

A decision by Liberal members of the House of Commons heritage committee to strip Bill C-10 of an amendment which effectively protected user-generated content from CRTC regulation sparked national outrage over free speech concerns.

Experts, including University of Ottawa Professor Michael Geist, have been vocal critics of the legislation.

Yesterday, Geist appeared before the committee, where he called Liberal attempts to regulate the content of Canadains “entirely unworkable” and “a threat to freedom of expression.”

“I will speak to the freedom of expression implications in a moment, but must pause to note that no one – literally no other country – uses broadcast regulation to regulate user generated content in this way. There are good reasons that all other countries reject this approach,” said Geist during his opening remarks.

Earlier this month, the Justice Ministry put out an updated charter statement which claimed that the bill still abided by Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms despite the amendment’s removal. However, according to Geist, the statement did nothing to address concerns experts have repeatedly raised about the bill.

“From a Charter perspective, the statement issued by Justice last week simply does not contain analysis or discussion about how the regulation of user generated content as a program intersects with the Charter,” said Geist.

Liberal Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault has responded to criticism of the bill by lashing out at opponents and accusing critics of the bill of playing into an “extremist element” of the Conservative Party.

Bloc Québécois push to pass Liberal’s Bill C-10 without further debate

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanche has indicated that his party will fall in line behind the minority Liberal government and support the government’s controversial sweeping internet censorship bill, C-10.

Blanchet made the announcement on the CBC French-language program Tout le monde en parle while appearing on a panel with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Liberal Canadian Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault, who was charged with drafting the legislation.

According to Blanchet, his party is prepared to fast track the legislation so that the law is adopted this summer, even though critics have called for the government to scrap the legislation.

“It’s exceptional, but if the government agrees, we are prepared to launch a process of time allocation and rapid adoption so that Quebec’s cultural sector and the Canadian cultural sector can have this bill adopted before the end of the session,” said Blanchet in French.

This week, dozens of high profile Canadians and organizations including two former senior Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) signed a petition blasting the Liberal government’s bill as a step towards “authoritarian” style politics.

“It appears Canada is not immune to the growing trend of government intervention to curtail freedom and seek to control parts of the internet’s infrastructure in ways reminiscent of actions taken by authoritarian governments,” wrote the petition.

“We are Canadian internet policy and technical professionals writing as concerned experts and on behalf of all those who care about the future of a free and open internet.”

Controversy around the bill came to a head when Liberal members of the House of Commons heritage committee voted to strip Bill C-10 of an amendment which would protect user-generated content from CRTC regulation.

Conservative Party Leader Erin O’Toole has promised to repeal Bill C-10 should he be elected in the upcoming election.

“Canada’s Conservatives support creating a level playing field between large foreign streaming services and Canadian broadcasters, and championing Canadian arts and culture. A Conservative government would do so without compromising Canadians’ fundamental rights and freedoms,” said O’Toole in a statement released on Thursday.

“We are calling on Justin Trudeau to withdraw Bill C-10 today. If this is not done, a Conservative government will stand up for Canadians and repeal this deeply flawed legislation. While the NDP and the Bloc may look the other way on the freedom of expression, Canada’s Conservatives will not.”
