The high-ranking jihadist leaders were taken prisoner in a joint US-Iraqi operation as they attempted to cross into Iraq from Syria.

Intelligence officers had tracked them for three months as they made their way through Turkey and Syria, the New York Times reported.

The group has been shown on Iraqi TV dressed in yellow prison uniforms.

Their pictures appeared next to images taken from ISIS propaganda. In one image too gruesome to show, one of the captured commanders can be seen grinning and posing next to a row of severed heads

The ISIS leaders are said to have featured in a series of sick execution videos, filmed when the extremist group controlled large swathes of Iraq.

In a tweet this afternoon, the US leader said: “Five Most Wanted leaders of ISIS just captured!”

Iraqi officials have described the ISIS commanders as “some of the most wanted” leaders of the terrorist group.

They were named as Saddam al-Jammel, Mohammed al-Qadeer, Ismail al-Eithawi, Omar al-Karbouli and Essam al-Zawbai.

Lega leader Matteo Salvini and Five Star Movement leader Luigi Di Maio have officially announced Thursday's talks between the two eurosceptic parties have been successful, sparking fears of renewed challenges to the European Union after Brexit.

In a joint written statement, the two leaders revealed "significant progress" has been made and further meetings will be held on Thursday afternoon to decide on the future ministerial positions the two parties will hold.

The joint statement read: "Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio met this morning in the Italian Parliament.

"Five Star Movement spokesman Vincenzo Spadafora and Lega House leader Giancarlo Giorgetti were also present.

"There is a positive climate to define the joint political programme and the priorities of the future government.

"This afternoon, the first meeting between the parties' chiefs of staff will be held to discuss the future of the different governmental sectors.

Looks like the Globalists are getting their asses handed to them by Italy today.

The French President has pushed an agenda of huge Eurozone changes since taking charge of Paris in May 2017 – including introducing a European minister for finance, a separate Eurozone budget and parliament.

Mr Macron is, however, struggling to convince Germany that his visions are right for the European Union, with Angela Merkel dragging her feet over the reforms.

The German Chancellor might agree that there is a need for a swift change to how the Eurozone operates but first has to contend with her coalition government, which is not so convince.

Paris and Berlin might be about to deliver a Eurozone reform plan at an EU summit in Brussels toward the end of June, but German are far from convinced by Mr Macron’s proposals.
