The Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine became the latest COVID-19 vaccine to receive an Emergency Use Listing from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday; experts said the vaccine showed an overall efficacy rate of 79% in preventing symptomatic and serious disease.

The WHO approval positions Sinopharm to become a major player in the COVAX global facility. The facility, co-sponsored by WHO and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is struggling to provide desperately needed vaccine supplies to low- and middle-income countries in the wake of India’s COVID surge – which forced Indian vaccine manufacturers to divert production to domestic needs.

It remains to be seen, what kind of deal the Beijing-based pharma company might negotiate with COVAX. The vaccine’s state-controlled developers, Beijing Bio-Institute of Biological Products, have so far pursued only bilateral vaccine donations or deals – with an official sales price exceeding that of the pricey Pfizer and Moderna vaccines – whose efficacy is much higher.

Leaked Chinese document reveals a sinister plan to ‘unleash’ coronaviruses

A leaked 2015 government paper has revealed a discussion by top Chinese scientists who said a virus could be “unleashed in way never seen before”.

Titled The Unnatural Origin of SARS and New Species of Man-Made Viruses as Genetic Bioweapons, the paper predicted that World War Three would be fought with biological weapons.

Released five years before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it describes SARS coronaviruses as a “new era of genetic weapons” that can be “artificially manipulated into an emerging human ­disease virus, then weaponised and unleashed in a way never seen before”.

Peter Jennings, the executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), told news.com.au that the document is as close to a “smoking gun” as we’ve got.

“I think this is significant because it clearly shows that Chinese scientists were thinking about military application for different strains of the coronavirus and thinking about how it could be deployed,” said Mr Jennings.

“It begins to firm up the possibility that what we have here is the accidental release of a pathogen for military use,” added Mr Jennings.

Among the 18 listed authors of the document are People’s Liberation Army scientists and weapons experts.

Robert Potter, a cyber security specialist who analyses leaked Chinese government documents was asked by The Australian to verify the paper. He says the document definitely isn’t fake.

“We reached a high confidence conclusion that it was genuine … It’s not fake but it’s up to someone else to interpret how serious it is,” Mr Potter told news.com.au.

A spicy slip of the tongue led to a Spanish teacher being yanked from her classes after investigators found she performed an "inappropriate sexual act" during a Zoom lesson.

As students at the prestigious Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science and Engineering remotely watched a "live" class, Amanda K. Fletcher, 37, "appeared to suck the nipple of an unidentified topless male" while "gyrating" or "rocking back and forth," according to the Special Commissioner of Investigation for city schools.

Before that, students watched Fletcher "eating spaghetti" with the shirtless man behind her, the SCI says in a report, dated Oct. 29, 2020, obtained by The Post.

After taking her mouth off the man’s chest, Fletcher "resumed teaching and discussing a worksheet," a student told probers.

Investigators viewed several videos of the incident, which were shared by students on Shapchat and other social media platforms, the report says.

The stunning scene took place on Sept. 30, two weeks after the city Department of Education opened the 2020-21 school year remotely.

The DOE "reassigned" Fletcher last October after receiving the SCI report, and "will pursue disciplinary action" against her, Filson said. Fletcher, who made $105,588 last year, remains on the city payroll.
