EU and Biontech/Pfizer sign contract to purchase up to 1.8 billion Covid vaccine doses
With Biontech vaccine doses now pledged, the EU plans to boost adult Covid vaccinations and immunize the EU's 70 to 80 million children against the novel coronavirus.
The EU contract to buy up to 1.8 billion more doses of Corona vaccine from Biontech/Pfizer is signed and sealed. EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement on Twitter on Saturday.
The quantity is to be delivered by 2023. 900 million doses are to be firmly ordered, and another 900 million doses are an option.
This will be used to boost Covid vaccinations of adults and immunize the 70 million to 80 million children in the EU against the coronavirus. The contract is worth up to 35 billion euros, according to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, and means further investment in Germany and Belgium.
Price is around 19.50 euros per dose
