Cato Institute op-ed makes case for highly unpopular vaccine passports

The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, has come out in support of Vaccine Passports, so long as they are from the private sector, rather than the Government.

In an article, which also appeared on the markedly left wing NBC News, Cato Institute Writer and Senior Fellow Julian Sanchez opined that moves to restrict vaccine passports are “ultimately shortsighted — and unlikely to serve either freedom or public health.” He went on to claim that such moves “unwisely conflate the idea of vaccination credentials in themselves with the most unpleasant way they might possibly be used.”

Sanchez then poses the question: “Is it desirable to have a secure and reliable mechanism to determine who has been vaccinated against the coronavirus for at least some purposes?” To this, he answers “Of course. There are numerous contexts in which showing evidence of vaccination is either already required or has clear benefits. So a secure, easily verifiable record is self‐​evidently preferable.” This is in spite of the numerous reported problems with the vaccine, from blood clots, to heart attacks, to dementia, as well as widespread personal and moral opposition to getting it.

In order to ensure that everyone is vaccinated, Sanchez supports measures that would utilize encryption technology where doctors would upload our data to an app. That data would then be readable by a machine, most likely in the form of a QR Code. In other words, our information would not be gathered by the government, but rather by an app sponsored by big tech. The Cato Institute does not mention how the intelligence community and Biden Regime buy our data from big tech.

“Many seem to fear that vaccination certificates would quickly give rise to an authoritarian scenario in which Americans are expected to ‘show [their] papers, please,’ to engage in routine activities like grocery shopping,” Sanchez writes. He then says that such draconian measures are “neither necessary nor likely, and such concerns aren’t a good argument against the certificates themselves… in the absence of a government mandate for every business to check vaccination IDs, there is little reason to think this is a realistic scenario.”

Due to standing laws which prohibit mandatory vaccination and potential violation of HIPAA guidelines, the Biden regime is actively working with the private sector to impose mandatory vaccination and vaccine passports on the American people. Sanchez and the Cato Institute ignore this, and are thus in lockstep with the Biden Regime on the issue of mandatory vaccinations.

Biden Reversing HHS Gender Identity Policy

The Biden administration announced that it’s overturning a Trump-era Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule that excluded gender identity from sex discrimination protections in the Obamacare statute.

The rule dealt with Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which made it unlawful to discriminate on the basis of “race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in certain health programs and activities.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said on May 10 that the decision was made in light of a landmark Supreme Court ruling on an unrelated topic.

The June 15, 2020, ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County–that employees can’t be fired from their jobs because of sexual orientation or gender identity—was a defeat for the Trump administration. During oral arguments in the case, then-Solicitor General Noel Francisco said, “Sex means whether you’re male or female, not whether you’re gay or straight.”

Decision author Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote that the ruling dealt with employment alone and didn’t apply to “sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and dress codes,” all of which are regulated under another law, Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, which wasn’t at issue in the court case.

The court ruling brought an expanded meaning to the phrase “on the basis of sex” that appears in the nondiscrimination provisions of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and followed the court’s controversial 2015 ruling that gave same-sex couples the right to marry in the 5–4 decision of Obergefell v. Hodges.

A lack of linguistic clarity has clouded legal issues in recent years as the concepts of sex and sexual identity or gender have become difficult to separate. Despite the distinct meanings of “sex” and “gender,” many institutions and individuals use “gender” to mean biological sex.

But the Bostock ruling embraced the concept of gender identity, which conservative critics say is a radical political invention not based on science. The Trump administration reasoned that if Congress wanted to forbid discrimination based on gender or sexual identity, as opposed to biological sex, it would have done so explicitly.

Becerra said the policy change will make things fairer in health care.

Georgia Governor Signs Bill Preventing ‘Defund the Police’

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said the “defund the police” movement would endanger Georgian communities and signed a bill into law on May 7, forbidding large budget cuts for local police.

“Today, I am proud to sign [HB] 286 to protect law enforcement budgets and ensure the safety of local communities across Georgia,” Kemp said in a statement.

HB 286 (pdf) prohibits county governing authorities from reducing the police budget by more than 5 percent a year or “during a rolling five-year period.” The Republican-led General Assembly passed the bill and sent it to Kemp in early April.

“Radical movements like the ‘defund the police’ movement seeks to vilify the men and women who leave their families every day and put their lives on the line to protect all Georgians,” Kemp said in a signing ceremony at the Barrow County Sheriffs Office gun range. “This far-left movement will endanger our communities and our law enforcement officers and leave our most vulnerable at risk.”

“Defund the police” became popular among leftist activists following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis in May 2020.

Proponents of “defund the police” argue that governments should spend less on law enforcement and more on social services to address racial problems.

Cop Gets 5 Years for Using Badge to Run Fentanyl Ring, Causing Fatal Overdose

Recca pleaded guilty on Feb. 26 to Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class C Felony; Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a class B felony; and Conspiracy in the Second Degree, a class B felony. He was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison with two years of post-release supervision.

His five year prison sentence is not enough, according to the victim’s family. The victim’s mother, Jessica Bornschein broke down in court after the sentencing and said his badge let him escape with such a light sentence.

UK Announces Voter ID Law to Avoid U.S.-Style Election Fraud.

In an effort to prevent and deter voter fraud on the scale of the last U.S. presidential election, a photo ID will now be required to vote in UK general elections, a proposal to be included in the Queen’s Speech to Parliament on Tuesday.

“Britons will have to show photo ID to vote in future general elections, ministers are poised to confirm this week,” states the Guardian.

This action is meant “as a means of tackling fraud,” while critics – who often benefit from voter fraud – are bigotedly claiming it “could deter poorer and ethnic minority voters from taking part in democracy.”

While the voter ID requirement, effective for both UK-wide and English elections, is new in some parts of the UK, Northern Ireland already requires voter ID. The Guardian notes:

“The proposal is to be included in Tuesday’s Queen’s speech, which will set out the government’s post-pandemic priorities and the laws it intends to pass in the forthcoming parliamentary session…

Business Groups Lobby Against Trump-Era Rule Blocking Chinese Tech

Major trade groups have asked the Commerce Department to nix a Trump-era rule continued by President Joe Biden that enables the government to block Chinese technology transactions.

Business groups and industry-leading technology companies have lined up in opposition of the rule, which was introduced on Jan. 19 and went into effect March 22, calling it overly broad and arguing it harms U.S. consumer interests, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday. The rule implements provisions of an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump in May 2019, giving the Commerce Department far-reaching power to block Chinese technology transactions deemed to pose a national security threat to the U.S.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) asked Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo not to enforce the rule while the administration reviewed the best path forward, according to an April 28 letter reviewed by the WSJ.

“[The administration’s] actions should be more tailored,” the TIA said in a separate April letter to Raimondo. “In the long term, the nation is best served by pragmatic approaches that are designed to address specific risks.”

The TIA, Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, Consumer Technology Association, National Association of Broadcasters, Wireless Infrastructure Association and other top groups signed onto the letter.

Mexico’s Fastest-Rising Cartel Trying to Establish Foothold in US: Feds

A notorious Mexican drug cartel is attempting to gain a foothold in the Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest, according to federal drug investigators.

Mexican criminal group the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, or CJNG), has been on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) radar in recent years, and now, officials from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Homeland Security Investigations say its operations extend nationwide, with notable activity in Washington state.

Mexico’s fastest-rising cartel has a presence in at least 20 Mexican states, as well as Mexico City, with its base of operations in Jalisco and Colima.

According to the Insight Group, CJNG, established in July 2010, is known for its aggressive use of violence and its public relations campaigns. It uses videos and social media to threaten rivals while promising civilians that it won’t prey on them with extortion and kidnappings.

DHS officials say the cartel is currently the primary group behind a drive to bring illicit fentanyl into the United States. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is 100 times more potent than morphine.

Robert Hammer, the special agent-in-charge with the DHS’ principal investigative arm, told KOMO News that the cartel is “a huge threat to the stability” of the Seattle area and the Pacific Northwest.

Hammer noted that the group has illegally displayed its weaponry and armoured vehicles in Mexico through recently published videos, in which members also praise the cartel’s boss Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes—alias “El Mencho.” El Mencho has become one of Mexico’s most wanted, and is also one of the DEA’s most-wanted fugitives, with a $10 million price on his head.

6 More Lawsuits Filed Against Syngenta Over Pesticide That Causes Parkinsons, First Trial Set for Today

Six more lawsuits alleging Syngenta’s weed killing pesticide paraquat causes Parkinson’s Disease were filed last week in Pennsylvania, California and Illinois, adding to more than a dozen similar lawsuits already filed in U.S. courts.

The lawsuits all allege that exposure to paraquat, which is banned in more than 30 countries though not in the U.S., causes the incurable and progressive Parkinson’s disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain, leading in advanced cases to severe physical debilitation and often dementia and death.

Many Parkinson’s experts say the disease can be caused by a range of factors, including exposure to pesticides such as paraquat, as well as other chemicals.

The first trial set to take place in the U.S. is to begin on May 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court in Illinois. Missouri lawyer Steve Tillery is representing the plaintiffs in Hoffman V. Syngenta and said he plans to introduce evidence that includes internal company records showing Syngenta has known for decades that its product causes Parkinson’s Disease.

The defendants in the Hoffman case, as well as the other cases filed, name the Swiss-based Syngenta and Chevron USA as defendants.

Both Chevron and Syngenta deny there is a connection between the disease and the weed killer.

Chevron distributed and sold paraquat products in the U.S. starting with an agreement with a Syngenta predecessor called Imperial Chemical Industries, which introduced a paraquat-based herbicide called Gramoxone in 1962. Under a license agreement, Chevron had the right to manufacture, use and sell paraquat formulations in the U.S.

Syngenta says that its paraquat products have been approved as “safe and effective” for more than 50 years and it will “vigorously” defend the lawsuits. Syngenta is owned by China National Chemical Corporation, known as ChemChina.

The complaints were filed on April 30 by a team of law firms: DiCello Levitt Gutzler, Saltz Mongeluzzi & Bendesky, P.C. and Searcy Denney.

Biden HHS Rolls Back Religious Conscience Protections for Doctors

Advocates say Biden sex discrimination maneuver could 'coerce' religious physicians

The Biden administration adopted a new rule Monday that could force Catholic hospitals, religious doctors, and other objectors to perform sex changes.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced it will expand its definition of sex discrimination to include gender identity and sexual orientation, citing the Supreme Court's controversial 2020 decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, which protected employees from discrimination on the basis of being gay or transgender.

"The Supreme Court has made clear that people have a right not to be discriminated against on the basis of sex and receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation," Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra said in a statement. Twenty states are considering legislation to outlaw gender reassignment surgery for minors, and the Arkansas state legislature overrode its governor's veto to become the first state to enact such a law.

Transgender advocacy groups praised the Biden administration for protecting "life-saving care."

"With health care for transgender youth under attack by state legislatures, this move to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in health care is critical," said Chase Strangio, deputy director for the American Civil Liberties Union LGBTQ & HIV Project.

The Biden administration has repeatedly pushed to limit the expansion of protections for religious freedom that the Trump administration instituted. 100 Percent Fed Up reports – This afternoon, 13th Circuit Court Judge Kevin J. Elsenheimer heard arguments from Erik Grill, Assistant Attorney General to the radical Attorney General Dana Nessel, representing MI Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, and the attorney representing Antrim County, who also happens to be the Chair of the Grand Traverse Republican Party, Haider Kazim. Kazim and Grill filed a joint motion to dismiss the election fraud lawsuit in Antrim County that was filed by Constitutional Attorney Matt Deperno of DePerno Law, on behalf of his client William Bailey.

Why is the chair of the Grand Traverse Republican Party fighting to stop the investigation into voter fraud in Antrim County where his GOP group is located? What’s in it for Mr. Hazim to stop the voter fraud case from moving forward?

In addition to Grand Traverse Republican Party, Haider Kazim and Michigan’s Asst. AG trying to quash the election fraud case, Peter Wendling, an attorney representing township supervisors in Antrim County, argued that the court should not allow further discovery on the Dominion voting machines because it could be too costly to replace the equipment should it be damaged or rendered unusable. Wendling called an investigation into the machines “overly burdensome and unnecessary.” Incredibly, Mr. Wendling requested that if experts look at the equipment, Dominion should have a say in who inspects their machines—the machines DePerno is claiming intentionally changed the results of the 2020 election.

Antrim County attorney Chris Bzdoz agreed that an investigation into the Dominion machines should not be allowed.

Attorney Matthew DePerno responded to the allegation that an audit of the vote in Antrim County has already been granted, “In no event has the plaintiff been granted an audit,” but instead, the so-called “audit” included a hand recount ordered by the Secretary of State. DePerno stated that there had been no review of any of the down-ballot races.” DePerno told the judge, “We haven’t inspected the absentee ballots, how they were folded or what kind of paper they were printed on.”

DePerno explained to the judge that last week, they proved in a video that votes can be flipped using the same voting machines that were used in Antrim County, “We’ve received multiple problems that include problems at the tabulator, where we show people that the election can be flipped at the tabulator. We can flip votes up and down the ballot as we choose based only on the information and the programming that’s available to use on the Dominion voting system,” said DePerno, adding, “Certainly, the video we released last week shows the actual subversion of the votes.”

“We’ve been requesting discovery from the defendant since February 2021. We still have not received answers. We’ve done all this work, even without the help of the discovery responses from the Secretary of State or Antrim County. So, the question is really not why this has taken so long, but the real question is, why are we rushing this?” DePerno told the judge.

DOJ’s Top National Security Lawyer Slammed Investigation Into Government Wrongdoing in Surveillance of Trump Aide

Though an investigation found that the U.S. government abused the surveillance system to target a Trump aide, the Department of Justice's latest hire slammed a probe into the origins of that wrongdoing as "partisan silliness."

In a now-deleted tweet, Susan Hennessey, who was appointed on Monday as general counsel of the Justice Department's national security division, criticized special counsel John Durham's attempts to determine whether U.S. intelligence agencies improperly surveilled Donald Trump's presidential campaign when trying to identify Russian interference in the 2016 election. The national security division handles espionage and foreign-agent investigations.

Durham's inquiry has largely tracked a Justice Department inspector general's investigation into false claims the FBI made to obtain warrants to surveil Carter Page, a former Trump campaign aide.

The inspector general said the FBI made more than a dozen "significant" errors and omissions in the surveillance applications. The report was not as critical of Justice Department officials, though attorneys in the national security division did approve of the error-filled warrant applications.

The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment about whether Hennessey will play any role in the Durham probe.

Durham, the former U.S. attorney for Connecticut, was picked in April 2019 by then-attorney general William Barr to lead a Justice Department investigation into the Russia probe. Durham was designated to serve as special counsel over the investigation on Oct. 19, 2020.

Prior to joining the Justice Department, Hennessey was a senior fellow in national security at the Brookings Institution and the executive editor of the Lawfare blog. She has criticized Durham in the past, saying after he was appointed special counsel that he "hasn't come up with anything" of substance during his investigation.

"I guess this kind of partisan silliness has become characteristic of Barr's legacy, but unclear to me why Durham would want to go along with it," Hennessey wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Hennessey, who served as a lawyer at the National Security Agency during the Obama administration, cast further doubt on Durham's investigation in an interview with The Guardian last year.

"The Durham investigation presents the opportunity for bad actors to make a lot of mischief, but the lack of clarity makes it difficult for observers to criticise," she told the newspaper.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said during his January confirmation hearing that he would allow Durham to continue his work. But he also stopped short of saying that he would release a public report of Durham's investigation once it ends.

Durham has secured only one conviction during his investigation. Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty last year to altering an email regarding former Carter Page's relationship with the CIA.

Maricopa County Claimed the Two Vendors They Chose to Rubber Stamp Their 2020 Election Results Were Certified – Really?

Maricopa County’s Board of Supervisors (MCBOS), who were in charge of the 2020 Election, requested that two firms perform audits of the 2020 Election results. They hand-picked two firms and then when their audits were complete asserted that the two firms were certified. They are at best bending the truth.

We reported on these audits previously. The auditors selected to perform the audits of Maricopa County by the MCBOS turned into train wrecks.

Despite all this, the MCBOS reported on the results of the audits of the two auditors they selected to perform their audits. Of course, the results were satisfactory and then the MCBOS used these ‘audits’ to claim there was nothing wrong with the 2020 Election in Maricopa. The auditors never looked at any ballots and the MCBOS was making this assertion.

But probably the most stunning assertion was when the MCBOS claimed that the firms who performed the audits were certified.

What the MCBOS neglected to note was that when they selected these firms and claimed these firms were certified they were not being forthright. We uncovered that these firms were not certified at the time the MCBOS made their selection and only were certified after we brought this out in an article in late January 2021.

Ultimately the MCBOS audits were a waste of time and money and the MCBOS knows it. They hoped this would appease the Senate which it didn’t, it just provided more proof that a real forensic audit of the election was needed.
